Abstract:Two new species of nemourid stonefly genus Nemoura, N. liuqifeii sp. nov. and N. shennongjia sp. nov., are described from Shennongjia National Park, Hubei Province of south-central China. The relationships between the new species and similar species in the genus are discussed. Three females of an undetermined Nemoura are also described from the park, however, they were not successfully associated with the new species or previously barcoded species.

Abstract:The family Nemouridae, belonging to Plecoptera, comprises 21 genera and over 700 species found globally, with the greatest diversity observed in temperate regions. Nemoura Latreille, 1796 and Amphinemura Ris, 1902 are two largest genera of the family with the highest diversity in China.Two new species of Nemoura Latreille, 1796 of the family Nemouridae, Nemoura exterclava Zhu, Rehman & Du sp. nov. and Nemoura cerciserrata Zhu, Du & Rehman sp. nov., are described and illustrated from the Nanling Mountains Region in Guangdong Province, southern China. The morphological characteristics of the new species are compared with related taxa. Additionally, the status of Indonemoura voluta Li & Yang, 2008, originally from Maoershan National Natural Reserve in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, was addressed and moved to the genus Amphinemura Ris, 1902 on the basis of newly-caught topotypes.

Abstract:Ring nematodes of the genus Criconemoides are a group of polyphagous, migratory root-ectoparasites of plants. In a nematological survey of Zhejiang Province, three new Criconemoides species were isolated from the rhizosphere of Citrus sp., Euonymus alatus and Pterocarya stenoptera trees. In the present study, the new species characterized using an integrative taxonomic approach and described as Criconemoides parainformis n. sp., C. geraerti n. sp. and C. rotundicaudatus n. sp. Three of the species shares truncated anteriorly flattened lip region comprised of two annuli, body annuli margin smooth with few anastomoses, (except C. rotundicaudatus n. sp. it has crenated annuli margins and numerous anastomoses), excretory pore 1–2 annuli posterior to pharyngeal bulb base, (except C. geraerti n. sp. it has excretory pore at the same level, or 1–2 annuli anterior to pharyngeal bulb base), vulva closed, anus hardly visible 1–3 annuli posterior to vulva. The new species can be distinguished based on their en face view pattern under scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the tail shapes. i.e. C. parainformis n. sp. has an ellipsoid oral disc, slightly fused pseudolips and tail ending in a bilobed terminus. C. geraerti n. sp. has a hexagonal oral disc, separated pseudolips, and a bluntly conoid tail. C. rotundicaudatus n. sp. has a rounded oral disc, well developed pseudolips, and a short broadly rounded tail. Besides detailed morphological studies using SEM, genomic and mitochondrial molecular data were obtained for the three described new species. In inferred phylogenies, these three species clustered with known Criconemoides species in 18S, 28S, ITS and coxI trees. Currently, only four known Criconemoides species occur in China and the discovery of the three new Criconemoides species in present study has increased our knowledge on the diversity of Criconemoides in China.

Abstract:A new species of the genus Nilothauma Kieffer, N. pandum sp. n., is described, and its morphological descriptions and illustrations are also given. A key to the males of Nilothauma is given. The adult male of N. pandum sp. n. can be distinguished from known species of the genus by the following combination of characters: anal point very broadly lanceolate with microtrichia in median ridge and apical margin, rounded at apex; superior volsella pad-like, expanded distally; median volsella curved, rounded at apex, with 2 long basal setae and 1 long median seta.

Abstract:SummaryPopulations ofHemicriconemoides chitwoodi,H. fujianensis,H. parasinensis, andCriconemoides myungsugaeisolated in China from the rhizosphere soil of woody perennials were characterised molecularly, important morphological details being elucidated by SEM observations. The morphometric data of the Chinese populations were compared with all previously reported populations. The SEM observations ofen faceviews indicated thatH. chitwoodiandH. parasinensishave lip patterns belonging to type 1 and phylogenetically both species clustered with otherHemicriconemoidesspecies that showed the same kind of lip pattern. On the other hand,H. fujianensisshowed a lip pattern belonging to type 2 and phylogenetically appears basal to the above-mentioned clade. SEM observation ofC. myungsugaeshowed that the first lip annulus forms a non-projecting uninterrupted disc and the labial annulus is a rectangular shape with slight dorsal and ventral indentations. Phylogenetic relationships amongCriconemoidesspp. are apparently not well resolved. The present study provides updated morphological descriptions, molecular diagnostics and phylogenetic relationships ofH. chitwoodi,H. fujianensis,H. parasinensis, andC. myungsugae, the last species being the first report from China.

Abstract:Summary Sheathoid nematodes of the genus Hemicriconemoides are migratory root-ectoparasites of many crops but damage is documented for only a few species. Hemicriconemoides paracamelliae sp. n., isolated in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, from the rhizosphere of Cinninghamia lanceolata, is described together with H. kanayaensis and H. parataiwanensis. These three species are characterised morphologically and molecularly with important morphological details elucidated by SEM photographs. The new species can be characterised by the en face view having a dorsoventrally orientated oral disc with slit-like opening, and the labial plate being composed of two lateral semi-globular shaped projections on the lateral sides of the oral disc. This new species has the first lip annulus expanded and slightly wider than the second, stylet 83 (80-85) μm long, excretory pore located 5-6 annuli posterior to the base of the pharyngeal bulb, vulva slit-like, vulval flaps absent, spermatheca rounded to oblong-shaped, and anus located 5-8 annuli posterior to vulva. The tail is elongated, conoid, with the terminal annuli curving dorsally or ventrally to form a finely rounded tip. The study provides the first record of H. kanayaensis from mainland China, a new host association of H. parataiwanensis, and molecular sequencing data of the 18S, 28S D2-D3 and ITS sequences.

Abstract:Two new marine nematode species belonging to the order Monhysterida are described from the sea of China. Halomonhystera zhangi sp. nov. is characterized by its relatively small body size; short anterior sensory setae; small, circular amphidial fovea located at the level of buccal cavity base; funnel-shaped buccal cavity; an excretory-secretory system with a large ventral gland and opening as a very narrow canal just posterior to the level of cephalic setae; slightly curved slender spicules with cephalated proximal end and tapered distal end; rod-like gubernaculum without apophysis; two papilliform precloacal supplements just in front of the cloaca; conico-cylindrical tail with two ventral papillae, each with a seta; and distance between the vulva and anus slightly longer than the tail length. This is the first new species of epiphytic nematode reported in China. The second new species, Stylotheristus flagellicaudatus sp. nov. , has a relatively shorter body and longer tail; striated cuticle; The anterior sensilla arranged in two circles, the first circle consisting of six inner labial setiform papillae (3–4 μm) and the second circle consisting of 16 long setae (12–19 μm); a transversely oval amphideal fovea; a well-developed muscle around the funnel-shaped buccal cavity; short spicules and a gubernaculum composed of a single piece; and precloacal supplements absent. An updated key to all species of Halomonhystera and pictorial key to all species of Stylotheristus are also given.

Clarification of Phylogenetic Relationships among Chinese Nemacheilids with Tube-Shaped Anterior Nostrils, with a Description of a New Genus and Two New Species

Abstract:Nostril structures are important characteristics for generic diagnosis in Nemacheilidae and Cobitidae. Based on phylogenetic analysis, we found that 10 genera within Nemacheilidae (Eonemachilus, Guinemachilus, Lefua, Micronemacheilus, Oreonectes, Paranemachilus, Protonemacheilus, Traccatichthys, Troglonectes, and Yunnanilus) shared tube-shaped anterior nostrils and formed a monophyletic group. Morphologically, the location between the anterior and posterior nostrils was divided into three types: (i) separated, i.e., a distance greater than 1.5 times the diameter of the posterior nostril; (ii) adjacent, i.e., a distance shorter than the diameter of the posterior nostril; and (iii) closely set, i.e., posterior margin of the anterior nostril connected to the anterior margin of the posterior nostril. Thus, the 10 genera can be distinguished based on nostril features. Additionally, we describe one new genus, Guinemachilus gen. nov., and two new species, Guinemachilus pseudopulcherrimus sp. nov. and Paranemachilus chongzuo sp. nov.

Abstract:A new species of the genus Neoperla , N. donglaii sp. nov., is described from Yunnan Province of southwestern China. The new species is assigned to the N. lushana -complex of the N. ( Formosita ) subgenus due to the presence of paired, ventral spiny lobes of the aedeagus. The new species was compared with related species in the subgenus. Neoperla hamata Jewett, 1975 and N. idella Stark & Sivec, 2008 are newly recorded for China and N. quadrata Wu & Claassen, 1934 specifically from Yunnan Province, China. Neoperla quadrata had not been collected for 90 years.

Abstract:This study provides a comprehensive account of 40 species (52 valid names and one preoccupied name) of the genus Nemophora Hoffmannsegg, 1798 described or recorded from Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. Abstract:Two new species of free-living marine nematodes, Metachromadora parobscura sp. nov. and Molgolaimus longicaudatus sp. nov., from mangrove wetlands of Beihai, Guangxi province in China, are described. Metachromadora parobscura sp. nov. is characterized by eight longitudinal rows of somatic setae arranged from the posterior part of the body, loop-shaped amphidial foveae with an open top and double contours, pharynx with bipartite cuticularized internal cavity, spicules with well-developed capitulum, gubernaculum canoe-shaped, without apophysis, 6–8 precloacal tubular supplements, and a short, conical tail with two ventral protuberances. It could be easily distinguished from the known species by spicule length and numbers of precloacal supplements. Molgolaimus longicaudatus sp. nov. is characterized by short cephalic setae, relatively small amphidial fovea, slender spicules ventrally bent with pronounced hooked capitulum and tapered distal end, two poriform precloacal supplements, and a relatively long conico-cylindrical tail. It differs from other species by the shape of spicules and long tail. Nearly full-length SSU sequences (1542–1592 bp) of the two species were provided, and phylogenetic trees based on maximum likelihood analyses supported the taxonomic position of the two new species. The combined use of traditional morphology-based taxonomy and molecular approaches has been proven to be a good choice for identification of free-living nematodes.

Abstract:Previously, only three species of the genus Neurigona Rondani of the subfamily Neurigoninae were known from Yunnan Province. Here, we reviewed the species of Neurigona from Yunnan and added the following seven new species: N. apicilata sp. nov. , N. basicurva sp. nov. , N. brevidigitata sp. nov. , N. convexa sp. nov. , N. huanglianshana sp. nov. , N. quadrimaculata sp. nov. , and N. ventriprocessa sp. nov. All seven new species are sympatric and were collected from below a reservoir in the Huanglianshan Nature Reserve in Yunnan using three Malaise traps in 2019. This suggests a very high species richness in the Yunnan fauna. A key to the species of Neurigona from Chinese mainland is provided.

Abstract:Two new free-living nematode species, Ingenia major sp. nov. and Linhystera filiformis sp. nov. , are described from the Yellow China Sea. Ingenia major sp. nov. is characterized by a large body size, six outer labial setae articulated, buccal cavity barrel-shaped with three teeth, amphidial fovea small and unispiral, spicules thin and almost straight with a pair of ventro-laterally directed teeth hooked distally, gubernaculum kidney-shaped with triangular cuticularized projection, tail conical and with swollen-terminus. Relationship between Ingenia and Bathylaimus is discussed, and Ingenia communis Gagarin & Thanh, 2007 is transferred as Bathylaimus communis comb. n. based on the buccal cavity shape. Linhystera filiformis sp. nov. is characterized by filiform body, buccal cavity minute and slit-like, six outer labial setae and four cephalic setae in the same circle and with the same length, amphidial fovea relatively small and circular, spicules short and sickle-shaped, gubernaculum boat-shaped, tail filiform with three terminal setae. An identification key for valid species of Linhystera is also given.

Abstract:Two new species from China, Hymenogaster pseudoniveus and H. zunhuaensis, are described and illustrated based on morphological and molecular evidence. Hymenogaster pseudoniveus is distinguished from other species of the genus based on the color of peridium, which is snow white to white when unexcavated but then turns yellowish to earth yellow, and the basidiospores, which are ornamented with nearly longitudinally arranged ridges up to 2 μm high. H. zunhuaensis is diagnosed by its dirty white to pale yellow peridium, yellow brown to brown gleba, and the smaller (Lm × Wm = 11.7 μm × 9.8 μm) broadly ellipsoidal to subglobose basidiospores (Q = 1.1–1.3). ITS/LSU-based phylogenetic analysis supports the erection of the two new species, each placed in distinct clades with strong statistical support, suggesting that they represent two distinct species novel to science. Based on the morphological and molecular evidence, we have published two new species of Hymenogaster. A key for Hymenogaster species from China is provided.
