Abstract:We study the KP and the k-constrained KP hierarchy where the negative part of the KP microdifferential operator is forced to take the form q partial derivative-1r. The bilinear identity Res(lambda)[(lambda-lambda0)psiBAR(t)psi%(t')] = 0 is derived as the bilinear Backlund transformation (BT) for the KP hierarchy. For the k-constrained KP hierarchy we find two additional bilinear relations which together with the above identity form the bilinear BT.

Abstract:We consider the trilinear form of the Kaup-Broer system which gives rise to solutions in Wronskian form. The Kaup-Broer system is connected with AKNS system through a gauge transformation. The AKNS hierarchy can be understood as a generalized 1-constraint of the KP hierarchy. Imposing that constraint on Sato's equation we obtain the basic trilinear form and moreover a hierarchy of trilinear equations governing the AKNS flows. Similary, hierarchies of multilinear forms are derived in the case of generalized k-constraints.

Abstract:A class of (1+1)-dimensional integrable systems which are constrained from the Kadomtsev–Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy is studied. The bilinear equations of these integrable systems are shown first, and then by using the free fermion operators their rational and soliton solutions which are closely related to the τ functions of the KP hierarchy are obtained. The result implies that a large family of solutions of the (2+1)-dimensional KP hierarchy can be obtained by solving these (1+1)-dimensional integrable systems; in particular, the N-soliton solutions of the KP hierarchy can be deduced from the soliton solutions of these (1+1)-dimensional integrable systems.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss how to construct the bilinear identities for the wave functions of the (γn, σk)-KP hierarchy and its Hirota’s bilinear forms. First, based on the corresponding squared eigenfunction symmetry of the KP hierarchy, we prove that the wave functions of the (γn, σk)-KP hierarchy are equal to the bilinear identities given in Sec.3 by introducing N auxiliary parameters zi, i = 1,2,…,N. Next, we derived the bilinear equations for the tau-function of the (γn, σk)-KP hierarchy. Then, we obtain the bilinear equations for the tau-function of the mixed type of KP equation with self-consistent sources (KPESCS), which includes both the first and the second type of KPESCS as special cases by setting n = 2 and k = 3. Finally, using the relation between the Hirota bilinear derivatives and the usual partial derivatives, we show the procedure of translating the Hirota’s bilinear equations into the mixed type of KPESCS.

Abstract:In this paper we study a class of (1 + 1)-dimensional integrable systems called the k-constrained KP hierarchy. We first show by using the Wronskian technique that the first flow of the 2-constrained KP hierarchy possesses solutions in generalized double Wronskian form; then we give a conjecture on the Wronskian structure for solutions of the general k-constrained KP hierarchy.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct the bilinear identities for the wave functions of an extended Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy, which is the KP hierarchy with particular extended flows. By introducing an auxiliary parameter, whose flow corresponds to the so-called squared eigenfunction symmetry of KP hierarchy, we find the tau-function for this extended KP hierarchy. It is shown that the bilinear identities will generate all the Hirota's bilinear equations for the zero-curvature forms of the extended KP hierarchy, which includes two types of KP equation with self-consistent sources (KPSCS). The Hirota's bilinear equations obtained in this paper for the KPSCS are in different forms by comparing with the existing results.

Abstract:In this paper, we study two generalized constrained integrable hierarchies, which are called the $c$-$k$ constrained KP and BKP hierarchies. The Fermionic picture of the $c$-$k$ constrained KP hierarchy is given. We give some solutions for the $c$-$k$ constrained KP hierarchy by using the free Fermion operators and define its additional symmetries. Its additional flows form a subalgebra of the Virasoro algebra. Furthermore, the additional flows acting on eigenfunctions $q_{i}(t)$ and adjoint eigenfunctions $r_{i}(t)$ of the $c$-$k$ constrained KP hierarchy are presented. Next, we define the $c$-$k$ constrained BKP hierarchy and obtain its bilinear identity and solutions. The algebra formed by the additional symmetric flow of the $c$-$k$ constrained BKP hierarchy that we defined is still a subalgebra of the Virasoro algebra and it is a subalgebra of the algebra formed by the additional flows of the $c$-$k$ constrained KP hierarchy.

Abstract:For the Kadomtsev–Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy constructed in terms of the famous Sato theory, a ‘‘k constraint’’ is proposed that leads the hierarchy to the nonlinear system involving a finite number of dynamical coordinates. The eigenvalue problem of the k-constrained system is naturally obtained from the linear system of the KP hierarchy, which takes the form of kth-order polynomial coupled with a first-order one, thus we are able to derive the correspondent Lax pair, recursion operator, bi-Hamiltonian structures, and conserved quantities. The constraints for the BKP hierarchy are also sketched.

Abstract:We give a matrix formulation of the Hamiltonian structures of constrained KP hierarchy. First, we derive from the matrix formulation the Hamiltonian structure of the one-constraint KP hierarchy, which was originally obtained by Oevel and Strampp. We then generalize the derivation to the multi-constraint case and show that the resulting bracket is actually the second Gelfand-Dickey bracket associated with the corresponding Lax operator. The matrix formulation of the Hamiltonian structure of the one-constraint KP hierarchy in the form introduced in the study of matrix model is also discussed

Abstract:We apply the gauge transformations (differential type) and (integral type) to study the discrete mKP hierarchies. We prove that and can be commutative and the product of and satisfies the Sato equation. By means of gauge transformations, we arrive at the necessary and sufficient condition for reducing the generalized Wronskian solutions to constrained hierarchies. Finally, we give an example in the Appendix.

Abstract:We construct bilinear identities for wave functions of an extended B-type Kadomtsev–Petviashvili (BKP) hierarchy containing two types of (2+1)-dimensional Sawada–Kotera equations with a self-consistent source. Introducing an auxiliary variable corresponding to the extended flow for the BKP hierarchy, we find the τ -function and bilinear identities for this extended BKP hierarchy. The bilinear identities generate all the Hirota bilinear equations for the zero-curvature forms of this extended BKP hierarchy. As examples, we obtain the Hirota bilinear equations for the two types of (2+1)-dimensional Sawada–Kotera equations in explicit form.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to studying Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations with distribution-valued coefficients, which are not well-defined in the classical sense and are understood by using the paracontrolled distribution method introduced in (Gubinelli et al. in Forum Math Pi 3(6):1, 2015). By a new characterization of weighted Hölder spaces and Zvonkin's transformation we prove some new a priori estimates, and therefore establish the global well-posedness for singular HJB equations. As applications, we obtain global well-posedness in polynomial weighted Hölder spaces for KPZ type equations on the real line, as well as modified KPZ equations for which the Cole–Hopf transformation is not applicable.

Abstract:Solutions of a generalized constrained discrete KP (gcdKP) hierarchy with constraint on Lax operator $L^k=(L^k)_{\geq m}+\sum_{i=1}^lq_i\Delta^{-1}\Lambda^mr_i$, are invesitigated by Darboux transformations $T_D(f)=f^{[1]}\cdot\Delta\cdot f^{-1}$ and $T_I(g)=(g^{[-1]})^{-1}\cdot\Delta^{-1}\cdot g$. Due to this special constraint on Lax operator, it is showed that the generating functions $f$ and $g$ of the corresponding Darboux transformations, can only be chosen from (adjoint) wave functions or $(L^k)_{<m}=\sum_{i=1}^lq_i\Delta^{-1}\Lambda^mr_i$. Then successive applications of Darboux transformations for gcdKP hierarchy are discussed. Finally based upon above, solutions of gcdKP hierarchy are obtained from $L^{\{0\}}=\Lambda$ by Darboux transformations.

Abstract:In this paper, binary Bell polynomial approach is extended to systematically investigate bilinear representations, bilinear Backlund transformations and Lax pairs for a generalized non-isospectral Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) (NKP) equation and a generalized variable-coefficient KP (GKP) equation studied by Clarkson. The integrable constraint conditions on the variable coefficients can be naturally found in the procedure of applying the Bell polynomials. It is very interesting that, for the GKP equation, the eigenvalues in Lax pair may be y- and t-dependent functions, which exactly satisfy Riemann wave equations like breaking soliton equation. The results presented in this paper may provide further evidence of structures and complete integrability of these equations.

Abstract:For an inequality system defined by an infinite family of proper convex functions, we introduce some new notions of constraint qualifications in terms of the epigraphs of the conjugates of these functions and study relationships between these new constraint qualifications and other well-known constraint qualifications including the basic constraint qualification studied by Hiriart-Urrutty and Lemarechal and by Li, Nahak, and Singer. Extensions of known results to more general settings are presented, and applications to particular important problems, such as conic programming and approximation theory, are also studied.

Abstract:By constraining the potential of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) equation to its co-invariants expressed in terms of the squared eigenfunctions, the KP equation is reduced to a (1 + 1)-dimensional system consisting of the generalized multicomponent nonlinear Schrödinger and modified Korteweg-de Vries equations. So any solution of this system gives rise to a solution of the KP equation, such as new kinds of soliton-like solutions and a solution periodic in the x direction.
