Abstract:Lienard systems without closed orbit were given a complete classification with 72 kinds of possible topological structures.Based on the results,this paper prove that the 16 kinds of possible topological structures:α3β4-1,…,α3β4-4,α3β6-1,…,α3β6-12,can be realized and give the sufficient realization conditions.

Abstract:We want to discuss various applications of modular forms in topology. The starting point is elliptic genus and its generalizations. The main techniques are the Atiyah-Singer index theorem, the Atiyah-Bott-Segal-Singer Lefschetz fixed point formula, Kac-Moody Lie algebras, modular forms and theta-functions. Just as the representations theory of classical Lie groups has close connections with the Atiyah-Singer index formula as exposed in [A1], the representation theory of loop groups plays very important role in our study. One of the most important new features of loop group representations is the modular invariance of the Kac-Weyl character formula, which allows us to derive many interesting new results and to unify many important old results in topology. In this paper we will develope along this line. We hope that the other features of loop group representations, such as fusion rules and tensor category structure may also be applied to topology. See the discussions in §3. The contents of this paper is organized in the following way. In §1 we introduce elliptic genus by combining index theory and the representation theory of loop groups. The relation of the classical index theory with representation theory of classical Lie groups was discussed in [A1]. Here one finds that just replacing the classical Lie groups by their corresponding loop groups, we get the complete theory of elliptic genus, or more generally the index theory on loop space. Especially the Dirac operator and the Witten genus of loop space are derived more convincingly in this way. Then all of the other well-known properties of elliptic genus, such as functional equations, characterizations by rigidity and fibrations, can be easily obtained. Here we only pick some less well-known results to discuss, for example the expressions of the parameters in elliptic genera in terms of theta-functions. Different from the classical Lie group case, a new feature in our situation appears, the modular invariance which, by combining with index theory, is applied to obtain many new topological results. This is the content of §2. Most results in this section are special cases of more general results. For simplicity we only give the main ideas of the proofs. We make some geometric constructions in §3 to understand elliptic cohomology. The construction in §3.3 is motivated by the vertex operator algebra construction of the monstrous moonshine module. Abstract:The string-net approach by Levin and Wen, and the local unitary transformation approach by Chen, Gu, and Wen, provide ways to classify topological orders with gappable edge in 2D bosonic systems. The two approaches reveal that the mathematical framework for 2+1D bosonic topological order with gappable edge is closely related to unitary fusion category theory. In this paper, we generalize these systematic descriptions of topological orders to 2D fermion systems. We find a classification of 2+1D fermionic topological orders with gappable edge in terms of the following set of data $(N^{ij}_k, F^{ij}_k, F^{ijm,\alpha\beta}_{jkn,\chi\delta},d_i)$, that satisfy a set of non-linear algebraic equations. The exactly soluble Hamiltonians can be constructed from the above data on any lattices to realize the corresponding topological orders. When $F^{ij}_k=0$, our result recovers the previous classification of 2+1D bosonic topological orders with gappable edge.

Topology of ultra-localized insulators and superconductors

Abstract:The topology of an insulator can be defined even when all eigenstates of the system are localized - an extreme case of Anderson insulators that we call ultra-localized. We derive the classification of such ultra-localized insulators in all symmetry classes and dimensions. We clarify their bulk-boundary correspondence and show that ultra-localized systems are in many instances phases of matter not described by the known classification of topological insulators and superconductors.

Abstract:We prove the conjectured classification of topological phases in two spatial dimensions with gappable boundary, in a simplified setting. Two gapped ground states of lattice Hamiltonians are in the same quantum phase of matter, or topological phase, if they can be connected by a constant-depth quantum circuit. It is conjectured that the Levin-Wen string-net models exhaust all possible gapped phases with gappable boundary, and these phases are labeled by unitary modular tensor categories. We prove this under the assumption that every phase has a representative state with zero correlation length satisfying the entanglement bootstrap axioms, or a strict form of area law. Our main technical development is to transform these states into string-net states using constant-depth quantum circuits.

Categorified Open Topological Field Theories

Abstract:In this short note, we classify linear categorified open topological field theories in dimension two by pivotal Grothendieck-Verdier categories. In combination with recently developed string-net techniques, this leads to a new description of the spaces of conformal blocks of Drinfeld centers $Z(\mathcal{C})$ of pivotal finite tensor categories $\mathcal{C}$ in terms of the modular envelope of the cyclic associative operad. If $\mathcal{C}$ is unimodular, we prove that the space of conformal blocks inherits the structure of a module over the algebra of class functions of $\mathcal{C}$ for every free boundary component. As a further application, we prove that the sewing along a boundary circle for the modular functor for $Z(\mathcal{C})$ can be decomposed into a sewing procedure along an interval and the application of the partial trace. Finally, we construct mapping class group representations from Grothendieck-Verdier categories that are not necessarily rigid and make precise how these generalize existing constructions.

Abstract:We provide an alternative characterization of two-dimensional locality (necessary e.g. to define the Hall conductivity of a Fermi projection) using the spectral projections of the Laughlin flux operator. Using this abstract characterization, we define generalizations of this locality, which we term quasi-2D. We go on to calculate the path-connected components of spaces of unitaries or orthogonal projections which are quasi-2D-local and find a starkly different behavior compared with the actual 2D column of the Kitaev table, exhibiting e.g., in the unitary chiral case, infinitely many $\mathbb{Z}$-valued indices.

Abstract:The main result of the paper is classification of topological Lie bialgebra structures on the Lie algebra , where is a finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field F of characteristic 0. We introduce the notion of a topological Manin pair and present their classification by relating them to trace extensions of . Then we recall the classification of topological doubles of Lie bialgebra structures on and view it as a special case of the classification of Manin pairs. The classification of topological doubles states that up to an appropriate equivalence there are only three non-trivial doubles. It is proven that topological Lie bialgebra structures on are in bijection with certain Lagrangian Lie subalgebras of the corresponding doubles. We then attach algebro-geometric data to such Lagrangian subalgebras and, in this way, obtain a classification of all topological Lie bialgebra structures with non-trivial doubles. For the classification becomes explicit. Furthermore, this result enables us to classify formal solutions of the classical Yang–Baxter equation.

Abstract:We give sufficient conditions for the existence of one or two limit cycles of singular Lienard systems through the construction of a Poincare–Bendixson domain. With the help of the theory of rotated vector fields,we develop a method to compute bifurcation value at Saddle-node bifurcation of limit cycles and homoclinic or symmetric heteroclinic bifurcations. We also present application examples and prove the existence of duck cycles.

Abstract:In two dimensions, $U(N_c)$ gauge theories exhibit a non-trivial topological structure, while $SU(N_c)$ theories are topologically trivial. Hence, for $G = U(N_c)$ the phase space is divided into topological sectors, characterized by a topological index (a.k.a. ``topological charge''). These sectors are separated by action barriers, which diverge if the lattice spacing is taken small, resulting in an algorithmic problem known as ``topological freezing''. We study these theories in various box sizes and at various couplings. With the help of gradient flow we derive instanton-like solutions for 2D $U(N_c)$ theory with a specific focus on the case of $N_c = 2$.

Topological Classification of Insulators: I. Non-interacting Spectrally-Gapped One-Dimensional Systems

Abstract:We study non-interacting electrons in disordered one-dimensional materials which exhibit a spectral gap, in each of the ten Altland-Zirnbauer symmetry classes. We define an appropriate topology on the space of Hamiltonians so that the so-called strong topological invariants become complete invariants yielding the one-dimensional column of the Kitaev periodic table, but now derived without recourse to K-theory. We thus confirm the conjecture regarding a one-to-one correspondence between topological phases of gapped non-interacting 1D systems and the respective Abelian groups $\{0\},\mathbb{Z},2\mathbb{Z},\mathbb{Z}_2$ in the spectral gap regime. The main tool we develop is an equivariant theory of homotopies of local unitaries and orthogonal projections. Moreover, we discuss an extension of the unitary theory to partial isometries, to provide a perspective towards the understanding of strongly-disordered, mobility-gapped materials.

Abstract:In the paper we deal with a quintic Lienard system of the form (x) over dot=y-(a(1)x+a(2)x(3)+a(3)x(5)),(y) over dot=b(1)x+b(2)x(3) Z(2)-symmetry, where a(1),a(2),b(1)is an element of R a(3)b(2) not equal 0. A complete study of this system with b(2) > 0, called the saddle case, is finished, showing that the system exhibits at most two limit cycles, and the necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained on the existence of two limit cycles and a two-saddle heteroclinic loop. We also present a global bifurcation diagram and the corresponding phase portraits of this system, including Hopf bifurcation, Bautin bifurcation, two-saddle heteroclinic loop bifurcation and double limit cycle bifurcation.

Abstract:The study of topological band insulators has revealed fascinating phases characterized by band topology indices and anomalous boundary modes protected by global symmetries. In strongly correlated systems, where the traditional notion of electronic bands becomes obsolete, it has been established that the topological insulator phases persist as stable phases, separate from the trivial insulators. However, due to the inability to express the ground states of such systems as Slater determinants, the formulation of generic variational wavefunctions for numerical simulations is highly desirable. In this paper, we tackle this challenge for two-dimensional topological insulators by developing a comprehensive framework for fermionic tensor network states. Starting from simple assumptions, we obtain possible sets of tensor equations for any given symmetry group, capturing consistent relations governing symmetry transformation rules on tensor legs. We then examine the connections between these tensor equations and non-chiral topological insulators by construing edge theories and extracting quantum anomaly data from each set of tensor equations. By exhaustively exploring all possible sets of equations, we achieve a systematic classification of non-chiral topological insulator phases. Imposing the solutions of a given set of equations onto local tensors, we obtain generic variational wavefunctions for corresponding topological insulator phases. Our methodology provides an important step towards simulating topological insulators in strongly correlated systems. We discuss the limitations and potential generalizations of our results, paving the way for further advancements in this field.

Abstract:A generalized-homology bordism-theory is constructed, such that for certain manifold homotopy stratified sets (MHSS; Quinn-spaces) homeomorphism-invariant geometric fundamental-classes exist. The construction combines three ideas: Firstly, instead of restricting geometric cycles by conditions on links only, a more flexible framework is built directly via geometric properties, secondly, controlled topology methods are used to give an accessible link-based criterion to detect suitable cycles and thirdly, a geometric argument is used to show, that these classes of cycles are suitable to study the transition to intrinsic stratifications. As an application, we give a construction of topologically (homeomorphism) invariant (homological) L-classes on MHSS Witt-spaces satisfying conditions on Whitehead-groups of links and the dimensional spacing of meeting strata. These L-classes agree, whenever those spaces are additionally pl-pseudomanifolds, with the Goresky-MacPherson L-classes.

Abstract:In the framework of the Cartan classification of Hamiltonians, a kind of topological classification of Fermi surfaces is established in terms of topological charges. The topological charge of a Fermi surface depends on its codimension and the class to which its Hamiltonian belongs. It is revealed that six types of topological charges exist, and they form two groups with respect to the chiral symmetry, with each group consisting of one original charge and two descendants. It is these nontrivial topological charges which lead to the robust topological protection of the corresponding Fermi surfaces against perturbations that preserve discrete symmetries.

Abstract:Let p be normal singularity of the 2-dimensional Stein space V. Let pi : M -> V be a minimal good resolution of V, such that the irreducible components A(i) of A = pi(-1)(p) are nonsingular and have only normal crossings. Associated to A is weighted dual graph Gamma which, along with the genera of the A(i), fully describes the topology and differentiable structure of A and the topological and differentiable nature of the embedding of A in M. It is well known that the simplest Gorenstein non-complete intersection singularities of dimension two are exactly those minimal elliptic singularities with fundamental cycle self intersection number -5. In this paper we classify all weighted dual graphs of these singularities. In particular, we prove that there is no integral homology link structure in the class of simplest Gorenstein non-complete intersection singularities of dimension two.
