Abstract:Two specimens were collected from Luosuo River (a branch of Lancang River),China in July 2001.They are identified as Barbodes gonionotus,a new record in the Chinese fish fauna.This new record differs markedly from the other species of genus Barbodes in that it has 6-7 branched anal-fin rays.

Abstract:This paper describes a new species of the genus Para cobitis,which was from the cave in Libo County of Guizhou,China.The new species is named Paracobitis maolanensis Li,Ran et Chen sp nov(Fig.1),whose type specimens(No 050103001,total length 46 mm) is collected on January 3,2005 from cave Maolan of Libo(25°25′04″N,107°52′ E)in Guizh ou Province,and kept in Heilongtan Reservoir of Shilin Yunuan,China.Description: D,iii,8;A,ii,5;P,i,11;V,i,5;Branched caudal fin rays 14.Standard length is 6.57 times as long as body height,3.29 times as head length,5.75 times as length of caudal peduncle,and 15.33 times as heig ht of caudal peduncle.Head length is 2.00 times as long as its height,2.80 times as head width,and 2.00 times as body width.Length of caudal peduncle i s 2.67 times as long as its height.Diagnosis: the new species is similar to P.longibarbatus a nd P.posterodorsalus,but differs from the latter in:1) without nose barbe ll,2)delicate mouth barbell,3) formation of exceptional pectoral fin,4)deep f ork of caudal fin.

Abstract:A new species blind loach of the genus Paracobitis is briefhy described in this paper.The material was found from a cave in Nandan County of Guangxi,China.Paracobitis posterodorsalus Li,Ran et Chin sp.nov.Type specimens No.041005001,total length 66 mm,standard length 53 mm,collected on October 05,2004 from cave of Nandan County(25°02′N,107°36′E)in Guangxi.Kept in Heilong Tan Reservoir of Shilin,Yunnan,China.Description: D.iii-6;A.ii-4;P.i-13;V.i-5;Branched caudal fin rays 15. Body depth in standard length 7.57,head length 4.42,length of caudal peduncle 5.30,depth of caudal peduncle 17.66.Head depth in its length 1.74,head wide 1.50.Depth of caudal peduncle 3.33 in its length.Diagnosis: the new species is similar to P.longibarbatus Chen et al(1998),but differs from the latter in :①dorsal fin iii-6,Vs iii-8;②Anal fin ii-4,Vs ii-6;③origin of dorsal is posteriority of Ventral;Vs opposite.
The Preliminary Study on the Biology of Paracobitis Variegates

Abstract:This paper reports the countable characters,age and reproduction of Paracobitis variegates in Qingyi river.The length and weight range respectively from 6.98 cm to 15.41 cm and from 2.10 g to 21.00 g. Relationship between individuals are weight and length is: W=0.0184L2.5112,r=0.933.There are 5 age classes,and most in the age of 3 years and 4 years.The length of male fishes range from 6.95 cm to 15.41 cm,correspondingly the length and weight of female ones range respectively from 6.89 cm to 13.68 cm and from 2.10 g to 17.30 g.The mean value of fecundity is 340 per one.At egg diameter of Ⅲ and Ⅳ phase,the radiuses of ovarian ovum are 0.686 mm and 1.052 mm,respectively.

Abstract:This paper studied the annuli character on vertebra and otolith of 129 Paracobitis variegates collected from Daning river,the branch of Yangtze river,from October,2006 to November,2007.We found that calcareous deposition of young fish′s vertebra was not significant,so otolith could be used to check up the age of P.variegates.The results showed that the age of P.variegates were from 2 to 6 a.The relationship between individuals′ weight and length is W=1.95×10-4L2.309;The relationship between the diameter of otolith and body length is L=263.24R+9.03;The growth equation of P.variegates is Lt=222.708[1-e-0.092(t+2.162)];Wt=51.399[1-e-0.092(t+2.162)] 2.309.The turn-off age of P.variegates was 6.97.The growth condition of P.variegates was also analysed.For conservation and enhancement of the breeding population,the proper age to capture P.variegates should be 7.

Abstract:In a fish resources survey carried out in Tibet,in August 2008,three fish of Pseudecheneis in Sisoridae family,harvested in Quzika Township,Mangkang County of Tibet,were all classified to be Pseudecheneis immaculatus Chu. In the taxonomy,P.immaculatus was classified into Osteichthyes,Siluriformes,Sisoridae,Pseudecheneis and it possesses the main morphological features as follows:flat-chested,with an oval sorption device; small eyes located on top of the head; small mouth located lower position,and surrounded by clouds of nipple protrusion with discontinuous lip sulcus; with four pairs of developed jaw ,palps stretching back over the gill holes; horizontal fold of chest sorption device was 15 ~ 16,caudal fin was deeply forked,with a slightly longer lower lobe than the upper one; body color was uniform,which like the red mud water color,and without yellow plaque. Now,all 3 specimens harvested are deposited at the School of Life Science,Southwest University. Currently,P. immaculatus was only recorded in the Yunnan Baijixun part and the Liudong Jiang belong to Lancang River and no document on P. immaculatus. In Tibet it have been found by now. In this survey,P.immaculatus was first discovered and it created a new record in Tibet.

Abstract:Chinese Crowtit Paradoxornis heudei was found and captured in photographs in Donghu Wetland park,Huaibei(33°57′47″-33°58′01″N,116°49′23″-116°50′23″E),and Shilonghu Wetland park,Sixian(33°21′59″-33°22′38″N,117°53′30″-117°53′57″ E) in May,2010,March and April,2011,respectively.With the help of the fauna documents,this species were designated as a new bird record in Anhui Province.

Abstract:A gastrocotylid monogenean species Pseudaxinoides australis Lebedev,1968 was found on the gills of a marine fish,Decapterus russelli,from Shanwei city,Guangdong Province.The specimens are basically consistent with the original description of Lebedev,1968 except for the number of clamps and testis,the length of anchors and genital spines.This is the first time the species Pseudaxinoides australis Lebedev,1968 recorded in China,and the fish Decapterus russelli is a new host.The specimens are deposited in the Lab of Fish Parasitology,School of Life Sciences,South China Normal University.

Abstract:In August 2008,specimens of the Homalopteridae were colleted from Tibet.They were sorted and identified as Balitora pengi Huang.The discovery of the species represents the first record of the Homalopteridae and its type species B.pengi in Tibet.We herein redescribe and illustrate the species as follows: The specie is characterized by the longer length of body,fore side depressed,tail compressed;rostral part rounded;mouth inferior,moderate large,arch-shaped,the lower lip thin;eye small;rostral groove and fold exist;dorsal short,its origin obviously behind that of ventral,nearer tip of snout than caudal-base;1 pair of mouth barbels;rostral fold divided into 3 parts,between them with 2 pairs of rostral barbels;base of paired fin without robust fleshy fin peduncle;ventral fins separated each other,not connected to fucker form;anus near anal fin origin,not covered by ventral fin;caudal fork shallow,caudal length as long as head length;lateral line through body.The specimens studied are deposited in the School of Life Science,Southwest University,Chongqing,china.It is known that Homalopteridae fishes distribute in the provinces in south of the Yangtze River such as Yunnan.And B.pengi mainly distribute in Liusha River,the tributary of Lancang River.Hence,the discovery of the species makes Tibet be new provincial distribution area of Homalopteridae fishes and increases the distribution records of B.pengi within the upper reaches of the Lancang River.

Abstract:The present paper reports seven modern ostracode species from the bottom sediments of the Hongfeng Lake, Guizhou Province, including Fabaeformiscandona subacuta (Yang), Schellencandona cf. belgica (Klie), Cyclocypris serena (Koch), Cypria kraepelini (G. W. Muller), Dolerocypris cf. fasciata (O. F. Muller), Ilyocypris bradyi Sars and I. salebrosa Stepanaitys. These species are recorded for the first time in Guizhou Province, and S. cf. belgica is first found in China. The soft body characteristics of F. subacuta is first described in China.

Abstract:The genus Parachironomus has a cosmopolitan distribution including 85 valid described species world-wide. Species records and studies of the genus in the Tibetan Plateau are scarce. In this study, the genus Parachironomus from China is revised and two new species, Parachironomus wangi Liu & Lin, sp. nov. and Parachironomus nankaiensis Liu & Lin, sp. nov., are described based on adult morphology and molecular data. Paracladopelma demissum Yan, Wang & Bu is placed in the genus Parachironomus as a new combina-tion. A neighbor-joining tree was reconstructed based on all known Parachironomus COI DNA barcodes. A key to adult males of the genus Parachironomus from China is also provided.
A New Species of the Blind Cave Loach Genus Protocobitis (Cypriniformes: Cobitidae), Protocobitis longicostatus sp. nov., from Guangxi, China

Abstract:Protocobitis species are typical cave-dwelling fish, exhibiting distinctive morphological adaptations such as colorless body, lack of eyes, and reduced scales and ribs in response to their extreme cave habitats. Distinct from the recorded species, P. anteroventris, P. polylepis, and P. typhlops, a new species, Protocobitis longicostatus sp. nov., is described from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. Protocobitis longicostatus sp. nov. can easily be distinguished from all known congeners by the following characteristics: whole body covered by scales except head, 12 branched caudal fin rays, and long ribs. These species face threats from habitat degradation, hydrological changes, and environmental pollution. Thus, the conservation of cavefish in China has become an urgent issue.

Abstract:This paper reports a new species and two new records of the Tetraonchoididae collected from fishes of the South China and East China Seas. Pseudotetraonchoides halichoeres n. sp. was obtained from the gills of Halichoeres poecilopterus collected at Dongshan (23°42' N, 117°24' E). The new species is similar to P. bleekeriae Bychowsky, Gussev & Nagibina, 1965 in the structure of the haptor, but differs in the sizes of the hamuli, the transverse bar and the supplementary plate, and also in details of the supplementary plate. Both Heteropavlovskioides synodontis Machida, 1978 from Trachinocephalus myops and Tetraonchoides japonicus Bychowsky, 1951 from Uranoscopus japonicus are recorded for the first time off China.

Abstract:A new garrain genus and species are described from a tributary of the Zuo-River of the Pearl River drainage in Guangxi Province, South China. Cophecheilus, new genus, is separated from all other Asian garrains by its uniquely modified oromandibular morphology; i.e., rostral cap with a shallow, arched, subdistal depression extending almost the full length of its ventral margin; upper lip greatly reduced to a thin membranous fold medially adnate to the upper jaw, but reflected slightly from its distal margin, and laterally produced into a frenum connecting the upper jaw with the lower lip. The new species, Cophecheilus bamen, has an inconspicuous longitudinal black stripe extending along each side of the body.

Abstract:Atractolytocestus and A.sagittaus are recorded for the first time in China.A.sagittaus is redescribed and illustrated based on specimens collected from the typical host,the common carp(Cyprinus carpio),from the Yangtze River drainage in central China.In addition,the taxonomic status of Khawia tenuicollis Li,1964,showing typical characters of Atractolytocestus,was also discussed.

Abstract:A new record of Platycephalus sp.1 (sensu Nakabo, 2002) was documented based on morphological characters and DNA barcoding. We collected 174 specimens of the genus Platycephalus from Chinese coastal waters of Dongying, Qingdao, Zhoushan, and Beihai. Samples were identified as Platycephalus sp.1 morphologically. The coloration, meristic traits, and morphometric measurements are consistent with previously published records. In brief, it is an orange-brown flathead fish with dark brown spots scattered on head and body, lateral line scales 83 to 99 with one or two spine-bearing anteriormost pored scale, no yellow blotch on the caudal fin. Cytochrome oxidase I subunit (COI) gene fragments were sequenced for phylogenetic analysis. The mean evolutionary distance within the species Platycephalus sp.1 was 0.1%. Net evolutionary distances between Platycephalus sp.1 and other species of Platycephalus ranged from 10.8% to 19.7%, which is much greater than the threshold for species delimitation. The COI sequence analysis strongly supports the validity of Platyceohalus sp.1 at genetic level.
