Abstract:A three-phase grid-connected inverter with high efficiency soft switching is proposed,which uses only one auxiliary switch and can realize zero voltage switching(ZVS) operation for all switching devices,as well as can suppress the anti-parallel diode reverse recovery voltage.Space vector modulation(SVM) strategy can be adopted for this inverter with the main and auxiliary switching devices operating at the fixed and same switching frequency.The soft switching process of this inverter is analyzed,and the design procedure for resonance parameters is described.A 20 kW prototype is built to verify the theory,and efficiency of the inverter with full load can attain to 98%.

Abstract:Universal zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) technique for multi-phase AC/DC converter is proposed. With the proposed technique, all switches of the multi-phase AC/DC converter can realize ZVS operation by using one auxiliary circuit. A ZVS-SPWM scheme for the multi-phase converter is introduced. The operation principle and the stage analysis are presented. Generic ZVS condition is derived according to the equivalent resonant circuits. Next, the design guideline of the resonant parameters is presented. Finally, a ZVS four-phase AC/DC converter called ZVS single-phase back-to-back (BTB) converter is investigated as an example and the prototype is set up to validate the proposed universal ZVS technique for the multi-phase converter.

Abstract:In this paper, for isolated bidirectional dual-bridge series resonant DC-DC converters (DBSRCs), the conditions for wide-range zero-voltage switching (ZVS) under the control of phase shift modulation (PSM) and variable frequency modulation (VFM)are analyzed. For the purpose of accuracy, this strategy is based on time-domain analysis instead of fundamental harmonic approximation (FHA), and in dead-band, the changes of inductor current is also be considered. Meanwhile, for variable load at different voltage gain, an improved control strategy is given to fulfill the requirements of ZVS. Verification of the analysis and equation through experiments are provided in the last.

Abstract:A Zero-Voltage Switching single-phase grid-connected inverter and its zero voltage switching modulation scheme (ZVS SPWM) have been proposed to increase efficiency and power density before. With an auxiliary resonant circuit, all the switching devices are able to realize zero-voltage switching turn-on with ZVS-SPWM. It is found that ZVS-SPWM affects the output power quality. The output voltage model of zero-voltage switching single-phase inverter is deduced and the influence of resonant process and dead time on the low-order harmonics is evaluated. An improved ZVS control strategy is proposed and verified on a 3kW prototype.

Abstract:This paper introduces a design methodology of the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) inverter. Winding structure of the resonant inductor is investigated with finite element analysis (FEA) tool. Busbar structure of the ZVS inverter is discussed to obtain lower stray inductance of the crucial loop. A 30-kW prototype was built following proposed design methodology. The experimental results show that the highest efficiency reaches 98.3% with the power density of 5.2kW/L.

Abstract:Aiming at the troublesome of the switching loss and induction heating load variation in ultra high frequency induction heating power supply inverter,a novel bi-switching ultra high frequency resonant inverter was introduced.In the circuit,the trail inductive and capacitive parasitic parameters can be absorbed.The zero-voltage turn-off and the zero-voltage,zero-current turn-on were realized,in which the switching loss of the switch tube can be reduced greatly.The working conditions of the topology in inductive,resistive and capacitive load were analyzed.At the same time,the scope and conditions of the zero-voltage soft-switching in four kinds of classical inverter load were researched.Simulation and experimental results operating around 1 MHz frequency were presented.The results indicate that LLC inverter load topology is the most suitable one for this inverter.

Abstract:A novel Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) three-level NPC inverter topology using a new ZVS Space Vector Modulation (SVM) scheme is proposed. A detailed operation analysis of ZVS three-level NPC inverter is given. The ZVS condition of the proposed ZVS inverter is derived and it can be achieved of all switches in the proposed inverter, which include both the main switches and the auxiliary switches. The design of resonant circuits parameters is also provided. Finally the proposed circuit and ZVS SVM scheme are verified by experimental results and demonstrate a superior performance.

Abstract:In a zero-voltage switching (ZVS) inverter, the resonant inductor is applied to realize soft-switching aimed at dynamic loss reduction. For this purpose, the loss on the resonant inductor should be low enough to ensure a distinct loss decrease for the total system. ZVS inverters usually operate at higher frequency than hard-switching inverters to allow sizing reduction of passive components. From this aspect, the resonant inductor in a relatively small dimension is required to guarantee the compactness of the whole inverter. This paper introduces a methodology incorporating new design rules for optimization and miniaturization of the resonant inductor in a ZVS inverter. High frequency winding losses as well as core loss generated by non-sinusoidal waveforms are discussed in this paper. Different winding schemes and positions are compared in order to find a design with minimized power dissipation. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) results show that the inductor designed by this method has minimum losses and optimum size.

Abstract:In this article, the generic analysis and design of zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) multiphase ac/dc converters are proposed. With the edge aligned pulsewidth modulation (PWM) (EA-PWM) scheme, all switches of ZVS multiphase ac/dc converters can realize ZVS operation. Besides, the switching frequency is fixed and the auxiliary switch only operates once in each switching period. Its operation stages in a switching cycle are analyzed and a generic ZVS condition is derived. Based on the proposed theory, a ZVS two-stage three-phase photovoltaic (PV) inverter is investigated, which is regarded as a five-phase converter. Its ZVS condition under different working conditions is discussed. Finally, a 10-kW prototype with 150 kHz switching frequency of the ZVS two-stage three-phase PV inverter is built and the experimental results are given to verify the analysis. In addition, the extension of the ZVS multiphase converter in different applications is introduced.

Abstract:A new modulation scheme for the active clamping zero-voltage switching (ZVS) inverter is proposed. With the proposed modulation scheme, the inverter can realize ZVS operation in all switching devices and can remarkably suppress the reverse recovery current in insulated-gate bipolar transistor's antiparallel diodes as well. All the switches can operate at a fixed frequency in the new modulation scheme. Also, with the new modulation scheme, the ZVS inverter has some voltage boost capability, which is suitable for renewable energy generation. The inverter can achieve ZVS in all the switches under the grid current power factor angle from zero to +/-pi/6. The soft-switching condition of this inverter is analyzed. The operation principal and design guideline are described in detail. The previous theory is verified in a 30-kW inverter prototype.

Abstract:Active Power Decoupling (APD) is used for single-phase inverter to cope with the double-line frequency power pulsation in the inverter DC side. In this paper, zero-voltage switching (ZVS) for the single-phase inverter with APD is introduced. A ZVS SPWM scheme for single-phase inverter with APD is proposed. The operation of the ZVS single-phase inverter with APD is analyzed and ZVS conditions are derived. Finally, a 500kHz 1.5kW prototype is built to verify the theoretical analysis.

Abstract:A novel active clamping zero-voltage switching three-phase boost pulsewidth modulation (PWM) rectifier is analyzed and a modified minimum-loss space vector modulation (SVM) strategy suitable for the novel zero-voltage switching (ZVS) rectifier is proposed in this paper. The topology of the novel ZVS rectifier only adds one auxiliary active switch, one resonant inductor, and one clamping capacitor to the traditional hard-switched three-phase boost PWM rectifier. With the proposed SVM strategy, the novel ZVS rectifier can achieve ZVS for all the main and auxiliary switches. In addition, the antiparallel diodes can be turned OFF softly, so the reverse recovery current is eliminated. Besides, the voltage stress of all the switches is equal to the dc-link voltage. The operation principle and soft-switching condition of the novel ZVS rectifier are analyzed. The design guidelines of the soft switched circuit parameters are described in detail. A DSP controlled 30 kW prototype is implemented to verify the theory.

Abstract:Because of the need of energy saving and emission reduction, we see a quick increase of installed renewable energy distributed generation systems. Three-phase PWM Grid-side converter is widely used for medium and large capacity distributed generation systems. Traditionally hard-switching three-phase PWM converters are used, which causes severe switching loss, high di/dt and EMI. In this paper, a family of novel zero voltage switching three-phase PWM converter topologies under two types of active clamping are proposed. Novel space vector modulation schemes for the three-phase PWM converter is proposed. With the proposed space vector modulation scheme, the converters can realize zero voltage switching (ZVS) operation for all switching devices while the anti-parallel diode reverse recovery of all switch devices is suppressed. It has features fixed switching frequency, and lower voltage stress of the power switch devices. The different converters in the family are compared with respect to soft switching conditions, stress, adaptability to DC side voltage variation. Prototypes are built to verify the theory.

Abstract:This paper proposes a novel zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) three-phase four-wire hack-to-back (BTB) converter topology and its ZVS sinusoidal pulsewidth modulation (ZVS-SPWM) scheme. With the proposed ZVS-SPWM scheme, all the main switches in both the rectifier side and inverter side and the auxiliary switch can realize ZVS turn on with only one auxiliary circuit. In addition, the auxiliary switch only needs to operate once in each switching period, which can cut down an extra loss of the auxiliary circuit. The operation stage analysis is introduced, and the ZVS condition for the switches is derived. The ZVS BTB converter is investigated with respect to both balanced and unbalanced load conditions. In additon, the soft-switching parameter design guideline is discussed. Finally, the proposed ZVS BTB converter and its ZVS-SPWM scheme are verified on a 9-kW prototype with the SiC-MOSFET device.

Abstract:This paper presents the modeling and design of a novel ZVZC FB-PWM converter. Compared to the traditional topology which employs a saturated inductor to block, the reverse current in order to achieve ZCS for the lagging leg, a novel one using two diodes in series with the lagging leg is adopted. Both the duty ratio loss is reduced and the efficiency is improved, which further reliefs the problem of thermal handling caused by the saturated inductor. What's more, better stability and dynamic behavior are acquired. A complete small-signal model for the novel ZVZC FB-PWM converter is developed. Validation of design of equation and model prediction is accomplished through numerical solutions of steady-state nonlinear equations and experimental results of a 15 kW module converter operating at 20 kHz.

Abstract:The use of either lossless snubber circuits and/or resonant zero voltage and zero current switching (ZVS and ZCS) techniques increases the efficiency of power converters and inverters, and reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI) and noise. This paper presents analysis and design of a composite soft switching configuration for single phase inverters where power bridge leg modules are used. The presented single phase inverter consists of only one inductor and one capacitor as well as two low power rated switches/diodes for full bridge circuits. It can realise snubber functions and resonant zero current switching at any load current for switches in power inverters. The simulation waveforms and experimental results are given

Abstract:Based on the principle of piecewise linear,three-phase rectifier load is decomposed into three states,simplifying the modeling and design of inverter.With a scheme incorporating repetitive control,dual loop controller and capacitor voltage differential feedback,a detailed analysis of operating characteristics,controller design method is further presented.The steady-state and dynamic performance of the designed inverter system is analyzed by means of damping theory,phase-plane analysis method and Nyquist diagram.Experimental results are provided to demonstrate and the feasibility and validity of the proposed model and designed scheme and stability determination method.

Abstract:This paper presents a new resonant soft-switching quasi-Z-source inverter. On the basis of the quasi-Z-source inverter, the proposed inverter inherits the features of high voltage boost ability, circuit simplicity and high reliability. A resonant network with coupled inductor is employed to achieve the soft-switching scheme. All active devices (switches and diodes) in the inverter are tuned on and off under zero voltage or zero-current switching condition. The principle of the proposed converter and analysis of operation are proposed. Simulation and experimental results are given to illustrate the soft-switching characteristics. The theoretical analysis and simulation agrees well with experimental results.

Abstract:Compared with a conventional two-stage inverter, the quasi-Z-source inverter (qZSI) has several advantages for renewable applications because of its buck-boost capability and continuous input current. This paper addresses modeling and control issues resulted from the impedance-source network resonance. Considering shoot-through states, null states, and active states, the modulation ratio is included in the modeling process. Unlike prior-art modeling methods to separate the DC and AC parts, the proposed modeling method considers the impedance source network as an open-loop impedance at the input of the AC side. The resonant characteristic of the converter is investigated and the AC controller is designed in detail. Simulations are presented to validate the modeling and control methods.

Abstract:Three-phase inverters are usually required to output reactive power in electric machine drives, renewable energy generation, static var generators, and other power electronic systems. Therefore, the inverter may operate within wide power factor angle range. However, the traditional zero-voltage-switching space vector modulation (ZVS-SVM) method for three-phase inverters is only applicable when power factor angle is between -π/6 and +π/6. In this article, a general ZVS-SVM method for three-phase inverter with arbitrary output is proposed. The principles for vector selection and vector sequence arrangement are discussed in detail. With only one switching operation of the auxiliary switch in each switching cycle, ZVS of all switches can be achieved. Operation stage analyses and ZVS condition of the inverter with the proposed method are introduced. In addition, the resonant parameters design considerations and loss analyses are investigated. Finally, the proposed ZVS-SVM method is verified by the experiment.
