Abstract:Blood Pressure (BP) is an important parameter used for the diagnosis of heart attack, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, hypertension, Ischemic strokes, and hypotension. There are various types of BP measuring devices/instruments available in the market, but the precision and accuracy of these devices is still a debatable issue. To address this challenge, an automatic system has been developed for the calibration, testing, and pattern (model) approval for these BP measuring devices. The developed system has ability to calibrate multiple BP devices together and also covers the requirements for pattern approval as per International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) viz. OIML R 148 and OIML R 149 documents. The developed system is computer-based and is comprised of a mechanical test bench, an automatic pressure regulator, a digital reference pressure gauge, four cameras, and data acquisition system. The complete system is governed by in-house developed software which is used to control and process data of various parameters e.g., pressure generation and controlling, fine-tuning of reference line pressure, camera operations, monitoring and interfacing of the reference pressure gauge, image processing and storing the calibration/test data into the computer. To control the complete system automatically, software is developed on the Visual Studio 2019 platform. The developed system has the ability to perform automatically 10000 (or desired) simulated cycles for the life test of the BP measuring instruments. The system minimizes human errors, making it cost-effective and time-saving. The developed system is useful for calibration and test laboratories, manufacturers, metrologists, and researchers.
