Abstract:Information technology investments are characterized by the nature of high risk level. Despite enormous expenditure of IT applications in most organizations, the relationship between IT investment value and risk factors have rarely been fully explored This paper develops a comprehensive methodology, which has incorporated risk assessment and real options analysis, to evaluate IT investment that are subject to multiple sources of uncertainties. Applying this method in practice would help managers make better decisions on IT investment in an uncertain environment.

Abstract:In this paper,we study the impact and lag effect of IT investments on firm profitability,from two determining dimensions,i.e.,revenue and expenses.By examining data of Chinese public companies,we find that IT investments have significant and sustaining effect on firm revenue growth.However,IT investments also lead to an increase in operating expenses.With regard to firm profitability,the contribution of IT is increasing over years,and becomes significant from the third year after investment.Furthermore,we find that IT investments have much stronger effects on firm performance than non-IT investments.Compared with manufacturing sectors,firms in non-manufacturing sectors have much better IT performance in terms of the sustaining significant growth in both sales revenue and profits.

Abstract:Enterprise in China nowadays spend tremendous amount of money on Information Technology (IT) investment and China is becoming one of the biggest market for the major IT manufacturers. The domestic research for the mechanism of action between IT investment and business performance is rather few. From the perspective of organization capital, this paper theoretically explores the relationship between IT investment and IT business value. From the point of view of the author, the purpose of IT investment is to meet the information requirement of enterprise and the organization capital is the representative of this requirement; The IT business value is rested with the shaping and accumulation of organization capital and organization capital has close correlation with business performance.

Abstract:How to evaluate IT infrastructure investment,which is the foundation of information construction,is becoming a most caring question of enterprise policy-maker.After elaborating the necessity of using a real options approach,this paper carries on a real options frame with the aid of the concrete application case to evaluate the IT infrastructure investment through NPV,growth options and compound options separately.Results show that real options,especially compound options can ensure correct evaluation of IT infrastructure investment.

Abstract:Cost-benefit analysis and evaluation of education informatization is a complex system engineering,whose core work lies in clarifying key factors for restricting construction cost and application benefit of education informatization.Education informatization cost consists of three factors,namely,information construction cost of teaching and scientific research,information infrastructure costs and information security system cost.Benefit index is composed of teaching benefit,scientific research benefit and management benefit.According to the above evaluation system,a cost-benefit analysis of education informatization has been made in 19 colleges and universities in Zhejiang province.The findings are as follows:the key factors influencing education informatization cost include infrastructures,information resources,computer equipments,personnel,network and training funds;and the key factors influencing education benefit include the quality of scientific research personnel,multimedia network utilization,informatization management application,scientific application of information resources,information network popularization and multimedia teaching application;there are significant correlations between cost and benefit of education informatization in these colleges and universities;the key factors further concretize the cost-benefit indicators,which will actively guide the practice of performance evaluation of education informatization.

Abstract:Purpose This paper aims to examine the influence of information technology (IT) investment, including innovative IT investment and non-innovative IT investment, on comprehensive enterprise financial performance in a developing country, China. Design/methodology/approach This paper applies the method proposed by Barber and Lyon to construct the control group to study the impact of IT investment on financial performance of enterprises, using a sample of 229 IT investment announcement data of Chinese listed companies between 2011 and 2015. Findings The analysis of the financial benefits of these IT implementations yields mixed results. The results show that companies investing in IT can significantly improve profitability both the implementation and post-implementation periods for the full sample, improve the solvency only during the implementation phase, improve the growth ability after implementation time and cannot reduce business costs in all periods. At the same time, the authors find that, compared with non-innovative IT investment, the innovative samples do not achieve better financial performance, except the profitability financial indicator. Research limitations/implications There are several limitations in this research. First, there is no large sample about the IT investment information data set in China, so this study was compelled to use limited sample data from China; hence, this could lead to errors of too early generalization. Second, the firms in the sample are all in China’s listed companies, so this may either not accurately or possibly could reflect the entire environment of developing countries. Originality/value First, it extends the scope of the established literature by examining the influence of IT investment with China’s public firms data and IT investment to see if such spending has had an influence on corporate financial performance. Second, there is a lack of research on the impact of IT investment on comprehensive financial performance of an enterprise, compared with the previous one-sided financial performance, such as profitability or financial cost. Third, as far as the authors are aware, there are no studies on the impact of IT investment on firm financial performance based on innovative and non-innovative classification.

Abstract:Large amounts of resources have been, and will continue to be, invested in information technology (IT).The current paper establishes an integrative model of the impact of IT investment announcements on firm market valueby reviewing and analyzing several papers of empirical research. The impact factors are divided into four parts:IT investment characteristics, firm characteristics, competitive environment (including industry characteristics and partner characteristics), and country characteristics. In addition, the current article applies the integrative model to guide future research by proposingcorresponding hypotheses. The objective of the paper is to help scholars further understand the status and limitations of relative studies to facilitate further research. The proposed hypotheses providefirms with scenarios that can get the most benefit out of IT investment, thus guiding scholars on empirical research as well as strategic decision makers in organizations.

Abstract:Many studies on IT investment in companies have been conducted in the past, but our team combined them by summarizing the latest research. Compared to previous work, we revise a larger universe of firm IT investment, focus on more recent IT investment researches, refine the focus of current researchers pay attention to and address the problem of insufficient reference for enterprise practice. Through a review of the literature to synthesize the understanding of IT investment to (i) IT investment performance, (ii) IT adoption decision, (iii) IT governance, and (iv) IT labor (worker), we could highlight the research gaps that we encountered. Finally, based on the current research conclusions, we give practical suggestions from the early, middle and late stages of IT investment. This study contributes to the growing amount of literature on IT investment, both academically and practically.

Abstract:This research study examines the impact of information technology on firm profitability and stock returns. Using a comprehensive dataset of firms across various industries, this research employs rigorous statistical analysis techniques to investigate the relationship between IT investments, firm profitability metrics, and stock returns. The study focuses at how IT investments affect financial performance measures including return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE), with P-values of 0.34 and 0.12, respectively. Furthermore, the study investigates the influence of IT on stock returns, taking into account market capitalization, industry trends, and macroeconomic variables. This study's conclusions center on the beneficial association between IT investments and corporate profitability. The T-value for the IT investment has risen to 6.5. The analysis reveals that firms that strategically leverage IT investments tend to experience higher profitability metrics. Additionally, the research demonstrates the impact of IT on stock returns, highlighting the significance of IT as a driver of firm value and investor confidence. Moreover, this study delves into the mechanisms through which IT investments contribute to firm profitability and stock returns. It investigates the mediating role of factors such as process innovation, customer relationship management, and supply chain optimization, which facilitate the translation of IT investments into improved financial performance. The implications of this research are significant for both practitioners and policymakers. The findings provide valuable insights for firms seeking to enhance their profitability and create shareholder value through strategic IT investments. Additionally, policymakers can use these findings to formulate policies and initiatives that promote the adoption and effective utilization of IT in businesses across various sectors

Abstract:Compared with the traditional transport infrastructure projects, although Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) projects are of higher amount of investment, their impacts on society, economy, and environment are not easy to predict. On the other side, policymakers, investors, and the public are all very concerned about the benefits brought about by construction of ITS projects on the society, the economy, and the environment, as well as potential risks and possible negative impacts. In consequence, how to evaluate the benefits of ITS projects and how to select right indexes for evaluation have been hot topics in recent years. Since the evaluation of ITS projects contains many aspects including social, economic, and environmental, very often we need to use different methods for evaluation including qualitative and quantitative methods, according to what factors to be evaluated. In general, many ITS projects use both quantitative and qualitative evaluation including methodologies of the traditional cost-benefit analysis and the multi-objective analysis. These evaluation methods serve for the purpose of ITS project feasibility study and the provision of a scientific basis for optimization of the operation of existing systems. This chapter includes two typical examples of ITS project evaluations in P.R. China.

Abstract:With the increasing money input into information technology, researchers and businesses begin to pay more attention to the value of information technology investment. Researches have shown that information technology invest- ment has not lead to higher firms' performance, there exists a so-called productivity paradox problem. This paper fo- cuses on the relationship between information technology investment and firms' performance of Chinese companies. We have collected more than two hundred listed firms' public finance data covering a period from 1999 to 2004. Based on production theory, considering information technology as an important input factor, we construct the panel data model, and employ GLS method to estimate coefficients of regression function. The result of this research shows that information technology investment produces significant positive impact on operation income and net profit of firms. In- formation technology investment is productive investment; it contributes positively to production output.

Abstract:Through reviewing the relevant literature and case investigation,we summarize the components of the information technology capability.And specifically,we use the empirical study to verify that information technology capability is comprised of four dimensions, IT architecture and routine,IT infrastructure,human IT resource and IT relationship assets.Moreover,we design the index system of information technology capability.On the basis of a large-scale questionnaire investigation,this paper finally examines the IT capabil- ity's contribution to performance based on 145 valid samples.The findings indicate that,IT capability is positively associated with firm' s performance.Among the IT capability' s contribution to performance ;the effects of different capabilities are different.

Abstract:Nowadays, more and more enterprises are making large investment in information technology (IT). However, the costs seem readily identifiable, and many of the benefits are elusive. Effective methodologies are needed to solve the complicated evaluation problems resulting from the IT investment decision-making. In this paper we develop a comprehensive and practical methodology, which is based on real options and extended with fuzzy set theory, to evaluate IT investment project. And because the IT project usually involves multiple phases and has not only one option, we improve the fuzzy real option model with compound options. An example is used to illustrate the proposed approach.

Abstract:With the rapid development and wide application of information technology (IT), how IT investment impacts on banking performance has been the hot topic of academic and industrial circles. However, the existing theoretical models of impact of IT investment on enterprise performance have some limitations and disadvantages. In this paper, a new systematic and comprehensive theory model of impact of IT investment on banking performance is proposed, which is true of China finance information status. This model not only includes the intermediate business processes associated with IT and performance, but also the important environment variables, such as banking size, time factor and IT application ability. The components of theory model are analyzed elaborately. The research results show that the impact of IT investment on banking performance in China has the characteristics of stage and indirectness.
The Substitution And Income Effect Of Information Technology On Energy

Abstract:This study investigates the substitution and income effect of information technology on energy, results show that the income effect is much lower than substitution effect. Analysis on substitution effect suggest that the development of IT contributes the growth of tertiary industry within the industry structure, and it will make high-tech and IT based industry play a more important role in economic development. Analysis on income effect show that output play as a mediator for income and energy consumption, and this phenomenon also exist in direct effect of IT investment on energy consumption. At last a comparison of income and substitution effect show that in China the substitution effect is much higher than income effect, increase of energy consumption mainly result from the expanding scale of consumption and output along with the expanding investment of IT infrastructure.
