E. M. Foster's Theory on Character of the Novel and "round Characters" in Apotheosizing Tales

Abstract:It has been widely accepted in academic world that there is no round characterin Tale. By close reading E. M. Foster's theoretical works Aspects of the Novel, however, the author of the article reexamines the concept of round characterand clarifies some commonly-made error in understanding the concept. Based on the above knowledge, the author for the first time demonstrates someround charactersin Apotheosizing Tale, such as Nezha, pontiff Tongtian and goddess Yunxiao, of whom he thinks as the mainround characters.
