Abstract:Fe71.4Si13B9.6Mo2Cr1Cu1P2(y =0、0.0050、0.0077)amorphous alloy ribbons were pre-pared by a single-roller melt spinner in atmospheric environment.The effects of Y addition on the crystallization and magnetic properties of the Fe71.4Si13B9.6Mo2Cr1Cu1P2 alloy were studied by differ-ential thermal analysis,HT35 core measuring instrument and soft magnetic property measurement in-strument.The results show that with increasing content of Y,the initial crystallization temperature decreases .Compared with the sample without Y addition,the best annealing temperature decreases by about 5~10 ℃.The addition of Y can improve the maximum permeability and saturation magnetic induction intensity of the alloy.When y =0.0077,the maximum permeability of the alloy is 5.5×105 Gs/Oe and the saturation magnetic induction intensity of the alloy can reach 1.192 T.However,coer-cive force and core loss of the alloy both see a slight increase.

Abstract:A Y2Fe15Cr2 single crystal with the Th2Ni17-type structure has been prepared by the Czochralski method and investigated by means of Laue back-reflection, metallographic observation, X-ray diffraction, the singular point detection technique and magnetic measurements. A magnetohistory effect has been observed at a low temperature. Magnetization curves have been measured along the easy and hard directions in fields up to 6.5T. The saturation magnetization and magnetocrystalline anisotropy field decrease with increasing temperature. The experimental magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant is in good agreement with the calculation results on first approximation.

Abstract:A novel Y-3(Fe,Cr)(29) single crystal with the Nd-3(Fe,Ti)(29)-type structure has been successfully prepared using the Czochralski method followed by a heat treatment on a Y2Fe15Cr2 single crystal with a Th2Ni17-type structure. The magnetization curves measured along the easy and hard direction in the temperature range from 1.5 to 293 K are presented. The lattice parameters of the crystal are a = 10.645 Angstrom, b = 8.455 Angstrom, c = 9.678 Angstrom and beta = 97.462 degrees, respectively. The Curie temperature is 410 K. The saturation magnetizations decrease with increasing temperatures and are in good agreement with the spin-wave relation. The average magnetic moment is 1.54 mu(B) per Fe atom at 1.5 K. The crystal keeps a planar anisotropy from 1.5 to 293 K. The magnetocrystalline anisotropy constants at 1.5 K are K-1 = -0.87 x 10(6) J m(-3) and K-2 = 0.19 x 106 J m(-3).

Abstract:A novel Tb3(Fe,Cr)29 single crystal, which has a monoclinic Nd3(Fe,Ti)29-type structure, is obtained using the Czochralski method by performing a proper heat treatment on the Tb2Fe16.46Cr1.23 crystal with a Th2Ni17-type structure. Thermomagnetic curves along the easy axis and magnetization curves along the easy and hard axes are presented for both crystals. The lattice parameters are a = 1.058 nm, b = 0.848 nm, c = 0.968 nm, α = γ = 90°, and β = 96.93° for the Tb3(Fe,Cr)29 single crystal. The Curie temperatures, saturation magnetizations, and magnetocrystalline anisotropy constants are compared between the Tb-2:17 and Tb-3:29 crystals. The magnetization behavior along the hard axis is quite different as a first-order magnetization process (FOMP) of type I for the Tb-2:17, but a FOMP of type II for the Tb-3:29 crystal is observed below room temperature. At low temperatures, magnetohistory effects are detected for both crystals.

Abstract:The high temperature soft magnetic properties of Fe85.2Zr3.5Nb3.5B6.8Cu1 amorphous and nanocrystalline alloy were investigated. A Hopkinson peak was observed in the amorphous alloy, which was not observed in the nanocrystalline alloy, and this has been explained by the combination of the anisotropy reduction and the deterioration of magnetic properties. A rapidly decrease in permeability at the Curie temperature of amorphous (Tcam) was observed in amorphous and partial crystallized nanocrystalline alloys, this phenomenon was disappeared in the highly crystallized nanocrystalline alloys, which was illustrated by the intergrain exchange magnetic coupling through a thin amorphous layer in the two-phase nanocrystalline alloy.

Abstract:A systematic investigation of structure and magnetic properties of the compounds R3Fe29-xTx (R=Y, Ce, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, and Dy; T=V and Cr) and their nitrides, carbides and hydrides has been performed. The nitrogenation and carbonization lead to a good improvement in the Curie temperature, the saturation magnetization and anisotropy fields at 4.2 K and room temperature, but the hydrogenation results in a good improvement for some hydrides and an obvious degeneration for other hydrides in the magnetic properties. The uniaxial anisotropy and the good intrinsic magnetic properties of Sm3Fe29-xTxNy and Sm3Fe29-xTxCy make these compounds the hopeful candidates for new high- performance hard magnets.

Abstract:Single phase Y3(Fe,Mo)29Nx nitride has been synthesized at 803 K for 2 h by gas phase reaction under a nitrogen atmosphere. The nitride retains the structure of the parent compound. The unit cell volume of the nitride is 5.3% greater than that of the parent compound, the Curie temperature increases from 376 K for the parent compound to 659 K for the nitride, and the average Fe moments from 1.8 μB in the parent compound to 2.08 μB in the nitride.

Abstract:A Tb3(Fe,Cr)29 single crystal with the monoclinic Nd3(Fe,Ti)29-type structure was obtained after proper heat treatment on the original single crystal with a hexagonal structure grown by the Czochralski method. The magnetization curves along the hard and easy directions are presented. The lattice parameters are a=1.058nm, b=0.848nm, c=0.968nm, α=γ=90°, and β=96.93°, respectively. The Curie temperature is 477K and the saturation magnetizations are 51.74Am2/kg (18.07μB/f.u.) at 1.5K and 58.34Am2/kg (20.38μB/f.u.) at 293K, respectively. Below room temperature, a first-order magnetization process of type II occurring at the critical field of 6.0T at 100K and 5.5T at 200K was observed. A magnetohistory effect taking place at about 175K was also detected on the Tb3(Fe,Cr)29 single crystal.

Abstract:We have studied a nearly stoichiometric insulating Y0.97(2)Cr0.98(2)O3.00(2) single crystal by performing measurements of magnetization, heat capacity, and neutron diffraction. Albeit that the YCrO3 compound behaves like a soft ferromagnet with a coersive force of ∼0.05 T, there exist strong antiferromagnetic (AFM) interactions between Cr3+ spins due to a strongly negative paramagnetic Curie-Weiss temperature, i.e., −433.2(6) K. The coexistence of ferromagnetism and antiferromagnetism may indicate a canted AFM structure. The AFM phase transition occurs at TN=141.5(1)K, which increases to TN(5 T) = 144.5(1) K at 5 T. Within the accuracy of the present neutron-diffraction studies, we determined a G-type AFM structure with a propagation vector k = (1 1 0) and Cr3+ spin directions along the crystallographic c axis of the orthorhombic structure with space group Pnma below TN. At 12 K, the refined moment size is 2.45(6) μB, ∼82% of the theoretical saturation value 3μB. The Cr3+ spin interactions are probably two-dimensional Ising like within the reciprocal (1 1 0) scattering plane. Below TN, the lattice configuration (a, b, c, and V) deviates largely downward from the Grüneisen law, displaying an anisotropic magnetostriction effect and a magnetoelastic effect. Especially, the sample contraction upon cooling is enhanced below the AFM transition temperature. There is evidence to suggest that the actual crystalline symmetry of YCrO3 compound is probably lower than the currently assumed one. Additionally, we compared the t2gYCrO3 and the egLa7/8Sr1/8MnO3 single crystals for a further understanding of the reason for the possible symmetry lowering.

Abstract:Iron-rich ternary intermetallic compound Nd-3(Fe, Mo)(29) with the Nd-3(Fe, Ti)(29)-type monoclinic structure and its nitride were prepared. The intrinsic magnetic properties, magnetic phase transitions, and the magnetocrystalline anisotropy, have been investigated. The results show that the Curie temperature of Nd-3(Fe, Mo)(29) nitride is 675 K, which is 70.9 % higher than that of parent compound (395 K), the saturation magnetization as and anisotropy fields H-A are 151.0 Am-2/kg and 14.0 T at 4.2 K, 116.0 Am-2/kg and 1.6 T at 300 K for Nd-3(Fe, Mo)(29) compound, 161.0 Am-2/kg and 18.0 T at 4.2 K, 143.5 Am-2/kg and 4.2 T at 300 K for Nd-3(Fe, Mo)(29 )N-x nitride, respectively; the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of the Nd-3(Fe, Mo)(29) compound is planar above about 230 K and easy cone from 4.2 to 230 K, after nitrogenation, the spin reorientation phenomenon was no longer observed.

Abstract:The variation in crystal structure and intrinsic magnetic properties with Y concentration has been investigated for the Dy1−xYxFe11Mo system in detail. The lattice parameters a, c of Dy1−xYxFe11Mo slightly increase while the Curie temperatures decrease with increasing Y concentration. At room temperature, all Dy1−xYxFe11Mo samples exhibit a uniaxial magnetocrystalline anisotropy. The anisotropy field is enhanced slightly by increasing the Y concentration at room temperature. A spin reorientation transition was observed at low temperature for the Dy1−xYxFe11Mo samples with x=0–0.8, and the spin reorientation temperature decreases with increasing of Y concentration.

Abstract:Structure and magnetic properties of (Nd1−xYx)3Fe29−yCry compounds with x=0–1.0 and y=4–1.5 have been investigated. It is found that in an adequate annealing temperature range all the investigated compounds crystallize in the Nd3(Fe,Ti)29-type structure. However when the annealing temperature is below 1323K, the Y3Fe27.5Cr1.5 compound crystallizes in a disordered CaCu5-type structure. Substitution of Y for Nd leads to a reduction of the lattice parameters. The Curie temperature Tc shows no clear change as the Y and Cr contents change in the above-mentioned concentration region. With increasing Y content, the easy magnetization direction changes from close to the [040] direction to the [40−2] direction. The X-ray-diffraction patterns and the AC susceptibility of the (Nd1−xYx)3Fe29−yCry samples reveal a spin reorientation phenomenon for x=0–0.4 as the temperature decreases from room temperature to 77K. The spin reorientation temperature Tsr increases monotonically with increasing Y content from 158K for x=0 to 201K for x=0.4.

Abstract:We have investigated the structural, magnetic, and dielectric properties of RFe0.5Cr0.5O3 (R = Nd, Sm, Gd, and Y) compounds. Both structure and magnetic analyses show a Fe/Cr cation disorder, which results in the existence of Fe-rich and Cr-rich clusters. The competition between the moments of the two clusters gives rise to the R-dependent temperature induced magnetization reversal. Interestingly, we also find that the charge carrier hopping in the two clusters leads to two sequential dielectric relaxations in all the samples. In addition, giant magnetocaloric effect with a magnetic entropy change reaching similar to 29.2 J/kg K was observed with R = Gd. Published by AIP Publishing.

Abstract:The electronic structure and chemical states of relevant elements of YBa2Fe3O8 are investigated using X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS), compared with those of YBa2Cu3O7 and SmFeAsO0.8F0.2 superconductors. The typical differences and similarities in core-level and valence-band structures of these systems have been detected, strongly suggesting that the superconductivity have the finite density of states around Fermi level. Several features of O1s, Y3d, Ba3d, and Fe2p core lines in XPS spectra are also carefully compared and analyzed.

Abstract:The structural, magnetic, and dielectric properties of the YCr0.88Fe0.12O3 single crystals were studied. Detailed magnetic studies demonstrate that the crystal is antiferromagnetic with weak canted ferromagnetism and experiences three sequential magnetic transitions around T-N1 similar to 127.3K, T-N2 similar to 115.2 K, and T-SR similar to 99.0 K. Interestingly, a temperature induced spin reorientation (SR) near TSR and magnetic field induced SR below TSR were observed. The H-T phase diagram was revealed to be quite different from both parent compounds YFeO3 and YCrO3. A dielectric relaxation around T-N1 was found to be associated with electron hopping. An intrinsic magnetoelectric effect was also observed at low temperatures. These results are helpful for understanding the exotic magnetic and magnetoelectric properties in the orthochromite and orthoferrite related systems. Published by AIP Publishing.

Abstract:We report single crystal growth and physical properties characterization of YbFe$_2$Al$_{10}$ compounds. The measurements of resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat show different behaviors from previous studies on polycrystal samples. A mixed valent characteristic with moderate mass enhancement is indicated. In particular, the optical spectroscopy measurement reveals formation of multiple hybridization energy gaps which become progressively pronounced at low temperature. The multiple hybridization energy gaps are likely caused by the hybridizations between the flat band from Yb 4$f$ electrons and different bands of conduction electrons.

Abstract:We studied Pr substitution for Y in a 123 high Tc superconductor related system, Y1−xPrxBa2Fe3O8 using of x-ray diffraction, magnetization, and 57Fe transmission Mössbauer spectroscopy. The Fe sublattices are magnetically ordered through the whole system. The Pr substitution, however, suppressed the Fe ordering temperature. The low temperature susceptibility across the system increases with increased Pr concentration x, and an additional antiferromagnetic ordering at 24 K is observed for x=1, indicating a possible Pr ordering. The averaged magnetic hyperfine field at Fe sites measured at 15 K is also reduced as x increases. The dramatic effect of Pr substitution for Y in this system, which is not observed in studies of Y substitution by other rare-earth elements, is interpreted as the effect of the hybridization between the Pr 4-f electrons and the electrons in the Fe(2)O2 layers, similar to the Pr hybridization in Y1−xPrxBa2Cu3O7−y system.

Abstract:The crystallographic and magnetic properties of the series of R2Fe17CNx, where R=Y, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, and Er have been investigated in comparison with those of R2Fe17C and R2Fe17N3−δ. The results indicate that Sm2Fe17CNx, which possesses a higher Curie temperature, a larger saturation magnetization, and a stronger anisotropy field than Sm2Fe17C or Sm2Fe17Nx, seems to be a more favorable candidate for permanent magnet applications.

Abstract:The crystallographic and magnetic properties of Y2(Fe1−xAlx) 14B, where x equals 0.00, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, and 0.08, have been investigated by Mössbauer spectroscopy and magnetic measurements at room temperature and 85 K. Magnetic anisotropy and magnetization changes with aluminum substitution indicate that, because of size, the aluminum preferentially occupies the j2 site over the remaining five crystallographically nonequivalent iron sites. This preferential occupation has been confirmed by Mössbauer spectral studies, which indicate that the compositional variation of the hyperfine field for each site is related to the number of near-neighbor aluminum atoms for the site. This compositional variation is helpful in assigning the different spectral components in these alloys as well as in the related Nd2(Fe1−xCox)14B and Y2(Fe1−xCox)14B alloys. In all cases these assignments are consistent with the local symmetry and coordination environment for each site.
