Abstract:The SrMgB6O11 glass samples were synthesized by a solid-state reaction route. Luminescence of SrMgB6O11:Eu2+,Mn2+ shows a broad blue emission band and a red emission band, which originates from Eu2+ occupying the Sr2+ sites and Mn2+ occupying the Mg2+ sites, respectively. The obtained samples exhibit a tunable color emission under an ultraviolet source by adjusting the relative proportion of Eu2+/Mn2+ properly. The energy transfer from Eu2+ to Mn2+ in SrMgB6O11 is observed to be very effective. The optimal composition of SrMgB6O11: 0.02Eu(2+), 0.12Mn(2+) generates white light, indicating that the obtained glass would be a good candidate for white light-emitting diodes applications. Abstract:Long lasting alkaline earth silicates, CaMgSi2O6:Eu,Dy,Nd, Ca2MgSi2O7:Eu,Dy,Nd and Ca2MgSi2O7:Eu,Dy, were prepared under a reducing atmosphere by a solid-state reaction. The obtained phosphors were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and their photoluminescence spectrum (PLS). The Ca2MgSi2O7:Eu,Dy,Nd phosphor showed a two-peak emission at 447 and 516 nm, while the CaMgSi2O6:Eu,Dy,Nd phosphor generated only one peak emission at 447 nm. This phenomenon is due to the different lattice sites occupied by Eu2+ in the Ca2MgSi2O7 and CaMgSi2O6 lattices. The electron affinity (ea) values for Eu2+ in [EuO6] and [EuO8] were calculated to be 4.2 and 1.9 eV, respectively. The Nd co-doped phosphor revealed a better afterglow characteristic, indicating that a deeper trap center was formed in the phosphor by the doping of trivalent Nd ions.

Abstract:Long lasting alkaline earth silicates, Ca2MgSi2O7:Eu,Dy,Nd was prepared under a reduction atmosphere through solid state reaction. The obtained phosphor was characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoluminescence spectrum (PLS). The crystal structure of Ca2MgSi2O7:Eu,Dy,Nd phosphor was refined by Rietveld analysis. The obtained Ca2MgSi2O7:Eu,Dy,Nd phosphor showed a yellow–green emission peaking at 518 nm, which is ascribed to the luminescent emission of the Eu2+ that occupied the octa-coordinated Ca2+ sites in the Ca2MgSi2O7 host. The electron affinity (ea) value for Eu2+ in [EuO8] was calculated to 1.9 eV. The decay profile and the emission spectrum indicated that when the value of Dy/Eu is increasing, there is a concentration quenching of Eu2+.

Abstract:A phase‐pure and high‐efficiency double‐band phosphor ,Eu2+‐Mn2+ co‐doped SrMgAl10 O17 (SAM ) was prepared through the sol‐gel combustion method .The crystal structure and luminescent properties of the SAM were investigated .The XRD results showed that SAM :Eu2+ ,Mn2+ phosphors were well‐crystallized , and the SEM results indicated that these powders consisted of well‐dispersed and uniform particles (about 1μm in length) .With the increase of Mn2+ concentration ,the emission spectrum displayed double peaks centered at 465 and 515 nm ,respectively .The energy transfer mechanism was proposed to be the dipole‐quadrupole interac‐tion .Moreover ,the Mn2+‐codoped sample had the higher thermal stability than that of the sample solely doped with Eu2+ .

Abstract:Long lasting afterglow phosphors Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu,Dy and Ca2MgSi2O7:Eu,Dy were prepared by solid-state reaction method. It is revealed by the results that both phosphors show two emission peaks that are caused by the different emitting centers Eu2+ held in the host lattice. Wavelength shift was observed due to the slight differences in the structure parameters of the two hosts. Investigation on afterglow property shows that Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu,Dy phosphor held a better afterglow property than Ca2MgSi2O7:Eu,Dy phosphor. Thermal simulated luminescence study indicates that the long afterglow is generated by a higher trap concentration formed by the co-doped rare earth ions within the host.

Abstract:Eu 3+ and Dy 3+ as activators in luminescence materials have been widely investigated because of their superior luminous properties. In this work, we synthesize Sr 2 MgSi 2 O 7 :Dy 3+ , Sr 2 MgSi 2 O 7 :Eu 3+ , and Sr 2 MgSi 2 O 7 :Eu 3+ , Dy 3+ in air via the solid-state reaction method. We research crystal phase and purity of all samples via XRD, discern their crystal structure and space-group, and investigate their luminescence properties. The yellow emission of Sr 2 MgSi 2 O 7 :Dy 3+ with emission spectrum in the range of 450–775 nm can be observed due to the 4 F 9/2 → 6 H 15/2 , 6 H 13/2 , 6 H 11/2 , and 6 H 9/2 transitions of Dy 3+ ion. The red emission of Sr 2 MgSi 2 O 7 :Eu 3+ in the range of 550–725 nm is shown owing to the 5 D 0 → 7 F 1 , 7 F 2 , 7 F 3 , and 7 F 4 transitions of Eu 3+ ion. Sr 2 MgSi 2 O 7 :Eu 3+ , Dy 3+ under excitation 388 nm shows yellow emission with chromaticity coordinates (0.3578, 0.3911) and glows red–orange light with chromaticity coordinates (0.5753, 0.3863) under excitation 394 nm. Sr 2 MgSi 2 O 7 :Eu 3+ , Dy 3+ can shows tunable emission when the ratio between Eu 3+ and Dy 3+ ions is changed. The energy transfer from Dy 3+ to Eu 3+ ions are known via the spectral features. Sr 2 MgSi 2 O 7 :Eu 3+ , Dy 3+ has a good thermal stability. Luminous mechanisms and energy transfer process of samples are analyzed by the energy level diagrams of Dy 3+ and Eu 3+ ions.

Abstract:The promising green oxynitride phosphor, Ba3-xMgxSi6O12N2:Eu(2+) was synthesized by the solid-state reaction method. The effect of Mg(2+) doping on the structure and photoluminescence (PL) properties of Ba3Si6O12N2:Eu(2+) was investigated systematically. The results reveal that the phosphor retains the single phase of Ba3Si6O12N2, with the lattice expanding upon increasing the Mg(2+) concentration, in an appropriate range. This suggests that a large portion of Mg(2+) enters into the interstitial sites of the crystal lattice. At a certain concentration, Mg(2+) doping can greatly enhance the absorption and PL intensity and decrease the full widths at half maximum (FWHM) of Ba3Si6O12N2:Eu(2+) phosphors. The green phosphor Ba2.87Eu0.1Mg0.03Si6O12N2 exhibited a small thermal quenching, which remained 82% of the initial emission intensity when measured at 150 °C. The quantum efficiency measured at 400 nm excitation was 38.5%. All the results indicate that the solid solution Ba3-xMgxSi6O12N2:Eu(2+) can be a good candidate for phosphors applicable in n-UV LEDs for solid-state lighting.

Abstract:Phosphors of Eu3+ activated Ba2Mg(BO3)2 were prepared by a high-temperature solid-state reaction technique. The phase purity was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). The luminescence properties in the VUV–vis range as well as the decay curves have been investigated. The results demonstrate that the band near 176 nm in the VUV excitation spectra can be ascribed to host-related absorption. The charge-transfer bands (CTBs) of O2− → Eu3+ in Ba2Mg(BO3)2:Eu3+ are at about 231 nm. The emission intensity of the 5D0→7F1 transition (594 nm) is dominant upon excitations at 172 nm or 231 nm (CTB), while that of 5D0→7F2 transition (613 nm) is dominant when excitations are at 395 nm (the 7F0→5L6 transition of Eu3+) or at other f–f transitions.

Abstract:Long afterglow Ca3MgSi2O8:Eu,Dy phosphor with high brightness and long afterglow was firstly prepared at high temperature and weak reductive atmosphere. The excitation and emission spectra of this phosphor showed that both of them are broad band, and the main emission peaking at 475.5 nm is due to 4f-5d transitions of Eu2+, which is in good agreement with the calculated value 467.7 nm with the relation E= Q[1-(V/4)(1/V)10(-(n.e.a.r)/8)], and implied that luminescent centers Eu2+ occupied the octa-coordinated Ca2+ sites in the Ca3MgSi2O8 host. The decay graph indicated that this phosphor also contains fast-decay and slow-decay process, which can last over 5 h in the limit of the light perception of the dark-adapted human eye (0.32 mcd/m(2)). Abstract:For the first time, X-ray excited luminescence of Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu2+, Dy3+, an efficient persistent phosphor with good potential for lighting, biological imaging and photodynamic activation, is reported in this paper. A modified Sol-Gel method is used to synthesize Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphors and their luminescence properties are highly associated with the synthesis conditions. The dependences of the X-ray excited optical luminescence and persistent luminescence of Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu2+, Dy3+ on the reaction pH, temperature, ratio of Eu/Dy, and the calcination duration time are investigated and the association of the luminescence behaviors with the synthesis conditions is explored as a good strategy to optimize the phosphors for practical applications.

Abstract:The fluorescence of Eu2+ and Mn2+ coactivated Sr3MgSi2O8 was studied, The emission bands of Eu2+ and Mn2+ peaking at 460 nm and 690 nm are originated from 5d-->4F transition of Eu2+ and T-4(1)((4)G)-->(6)A(1g)(S-6) transition of Mn2+ respectively. The fluorescence of Mn2+, singly doped in Sr3MgSi2O8 has not been observed, However, codoping with Eu2+ makes photoluminescence of Mn2+ appear at 690 nm, This shows that the emission of Mn2+ is sensitized by Eu2+, and then the fluorescence lifetime of Eu2+ is affected by Mn2+, The experimental results indicate that there exists an effective energy transfer from Eu2+ to Mn2+ in Sr3MgSi2O8 host. This kind of energy transfer is due to the electric dipole-dipole interaction of the resonance transfer.

Abstract:Ce3+ and Eu2+ doped and Ce3+-Eu2+ co-doped Sr2MgSi2O7 phosphors are prepared via a high-temperature solid-state reaction technique. The synchrotron radiation vacuum ultraviolet-ultraviolet (VUV-UV) excitation and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) emission spectra of diluted Ce3+ and Eu2+ doped Sr2MgSi2O7 samples are measured at cryogenic temperatures. The electron-vibrational interaction (EVI) between Ce3+ and its surroundings is analyzed. The dependencies of the 4f-5d transitions of Ce3+ on the structure of the host compounds Sr2MgSi2O7, Ba2MgSi2O7 and BaMg2Si2O7 are discussed in detail. Then the thermal quenching channel is proposed based on the measurements of temperature dependent luminescence intensities and decay times of Ce3+ and Eu2+ in Sr2MgSi2O7, and the Ce3+ → Eu2+ energy transfer mechanism is understood by three luminescence dynamic models. In addition, Sr2MgSi2O7:Ce3+/Eu2+ samples are evaluated for the possibilities of X-ray detection applications using X-ray excited luminescence (XEL) spectroscopy, and it was found that they are not suitable.

Abstract:M2MgSi2O7:Eu, Dy (M: Ca, Sr, Ba) phosphors were prepared via sintering at 1300°C for 3h in a weak reductive atmosphere of flowing 5% H2–95% N2 gas. The emission spectra of these phosphors showed that the main emissions are peaking at 537.5, 475.6 and 500.3nm due to 4f → 5d transitions of Eu2+. The decay curves indicated that all of these phosphors have long afterglow feature, especially Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu, Dy phosphor. It is the Dy3+ trap levels that resulted in the long afterglow in M2MgSi2O7 hosts.

Abstract:Eu3+ doped sodium gadolinium pyrosilicate phosphors Na3Gd1-xEuxSi2O7 were prepared using a high-temperature solid-state reaction technique. Structural refinement of Na3GdSi2O7 reveals that there are two distinct Gd3+ sites in Na3GdSi2O7 host lattice. The spectroscopic properties of Na3Gd1-xEuxSi2O7 in VUV-UV-vis range and fluorescent lifetimes were investigated. The nonradiative energy-transfer rate KGd-Eu and energy-transfer efficiency eta(Gd-Eu) were discussed. The luminous intensity and CIE chromaticity coordinates of Na3Gd1-xEuxSi2O7 under 172 nm excitation were compared with that of commercial red-emitting phosphor (Y, Gd)BO3: Eu3+. Abstract:In this work, Ca3MgSi2O8:R (R = Dy3+, Eu3+, and Eu3+/Dy3+) phosphors are synthesized in air by using the high-emperature solid-state reaction method. The crystal phase, crystal structures, lifetimes, and luminescence properties are investigated. Ca3MgSi2O8:Eu3+ phosphor with excitation at 394 nm emits red-orange light and its emission spectrum covers the region from 575 nm to 720 nm due to the 5D0 → 7F0, 7F1, 7F2, 7F3, and 7F4 transitions of Eu3+ ion. Ca3MgSi2O8:Dy3+ phosphor under excitation at 350 nm exhibits yellow-green emission with four emission bands in the range of 460–500 nm, 550–600 nm, 650–680 nm, and 740–775 nm, which are attribuited to the 4F9/2 → 6H15/2, 6H13/2, 6H11/2, and 6H9/2 transitions of Dy3+ ion, respectively. The energy transfer from Dy3+ to Eu3+ ions in Ca3MgSi2O8:Eu3+, Dy3+ phosphor can be confirmed by the spectral properties. The tunable emission properties of Ca3MgSi2O8:Eu3+, Dy3+ phosphor from yellow-green to red-orange can be fulfilled by the change of the excitation wavelength or the concentration proportion between Dy3+ and Eu3+ ions. The luminous mechanism and energy transfer of Ca3MgSi2O8:Eu3+, Dy3+ phosphor are explained by the energy level diagrams of Eu3+ and Dy3+ ions.

Abstract:Long afterglow phosphors of Sr1.956MgSi2O7: 0.004Eu2+, 0.04Dy3+ and Sr1.94MgSi2O7: 0.004Eu2+, 0.04Dy3+, 0.016Er3+ were successfully synthesized via the sol–gel method. The phase compositions and luminescent properties of the phosphors were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), fluorescence spectra and decay curves. Compared with the undoped phosphor, the crystallinity of Er3+ co-doping phosphors is decreased. Luminescence spectra show the main peak of excitation was 274, 356 nm and the main emission peak was 467 nm. Furthermore, Sr1.94MgSi2O7: 0.004Eu2+, 0.04Dy3+, 0.016Er3+ show excellent luminescent properties, and its initial luminous intensity increased by 1.4 times than Sr1.956MgSi2O7: 0.004Eu2+, 0.04Dy3+. The mechanism of Sr1.94MgSi2O7: 0.004Eu2+, 0.04Dy3+, 0.016Er3+ enhancement has been discussed.
