Abstract:In order to save the resources of the Finite Impulse Response(FIR) filter and increase the running speed,it was proposed to use the Least Mean-Square-Error(LMSE) to transfer the float point coefficients filter to the Canonical Signed Digit(CSD) filter.The FIR filter was implemented by the cascades structure,which conjugated pairs of zeros into two basic sections.First,all zeros of the digital filter were calculated,which were made of two cascade sections for an FIR.And then the coefficients of the first cascade were transferred to fixed point.Next step was to quantize the second cascade coefficients into fixed point.To eliminate the finite word-length effects,the LMSE was adopted to compensate zeros in this step.Finally,all the fixed point coefficients were quantized into CSD.In order to prove the effectiveness of the two methods,and the FIR filter was also designed with simple quantized coefficients.The magnitude responses of two methods show that the LMSE quantization is more effective than that of the simple quantization.

Abstract:FIR filter is widely used in the fields of signal processing with high fidelity. In the design of FIR filter the traditional algorithm such as serial DA algorithm, parallel DA algorithm and combined series and parallel DA algorithm are all not so suitable, which has lots of shortcomings. In this design, we improve the DA algorithm and uses the 4-BAAT method which optimizes the structure of LUT(look-up table) to realize the FIR filter. The process of FIR simple tap coefficients is achieved by the operation of shifting and reversing of symbol bit, which can pick up the speed and save the logic resources. This design adopts the Verilog HDL language, using FDA Tool to determine and quantify the coefficients with the given filter parameters. Then it uses Quartus 118.0 to integrate and wire, and Modelsim to simulate and verify. Compared with the filter achieved by standard DA algorithm, this filter reduces complexity, saves logic resources and picks up the speed besides it has the advantages of good reconfiguration, simple hardware structure and high real-time.

Abstract:In this paper,an efficient structure based on a Schur-form normal realizations is derived for digital filters.For an Nth order filter,the number of multiplies in such a structure is of an order about 3.5N.It is shown that the proposed structure is free of self-sustained oscillations.The corresponding expression of roundoff noise gain is obtained.Two design examples are presented to demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed sparse structure to several well-known realizations in terms of minimizing the finite precision effects that ultimately can not be avoided in real-time applications and reducing filter implementation complexity.

Abstract:Based on the field programmable gate arrays (FPGA), a low area and high speed FIR filter is proposed and designed. The multiplication modules were replaced by adders and shift registers in the proposed architecture. This is possible because a coefficient approximation is performed, using the algorithm that computes the coefficients like a sum-of-powers-of-two (SOPOT). Compared with the traditional method, the area of the 7-tap 12 bit FIR filter occupied is 75%smaller.

Abstract:FIR digital filter has many implementations, and the needs of real-time modern digital communication require high data throughput and processing speed. The paper introduces the FPGA implementation of high-speed and fully parallel FIR,then takes 8-input and 15-tap FIR filter for example, getting fully parallel FIR structure based on the direct FIR.The fully parallel FIR structure is designed with Verilog hardware description language, and the result of simulation and test is consistent with MATLAB. On that basis, we raise two measures for improvement, then synthesis, placement and routing, and compare the occupied resource. The result is that the distributed FIR is the best choice of hardware implementation.

Abstract:Digital signal processing (DSP) circuits are extremely important in computing and communications areas. One application of DSP is a Finite impulse response (FIR) filter. The principle objective of this exploration is to present a methodology for an upgraded framework of a FIR digital filter from software level to the hardware level. It includes the selection of design method, structure and cost effective hardware utilization. Theoretical and experimental results performed FIR band pass filter suggests that the window design method is relatively simple and easy to use because of the availability of well-defined equation. Comparison presented that Kaiser window gives the minimum main-lobe width and a sharp cut-off which means this window has less transition width and the study showed that the Direct-Form structure approach is simpler and offers a better performance than other common filter structures. It results in low cost, reduced area and more robust to withstand the quantization errors. For efficient hardware realization, the paper investigates the impacts of quantization on frequency response by progressively diminishing the quantity of bits in every coefficient using an iterative algorithm to a level where its frequency response matches to the novel requirements. Experimental study of coefficient quantization uncovers a connection between the quantity of bits, number of coefficients and the frequency response that consequence in reduced area and better speed. The synthesis results show that the discussed technique can substantial help in lessening the equipment assets. Computer aided design (CAD) tools are used to implement the design by adopting the behavioural level design method.

Abstract:In this paper, a new systematic method to synthesize the low-complexity and low-power realization of high-order FIR filters in VLSI was proposed. First, FIR filter was represented in graph, and the coefficients were reordered to generate a optimal realization structure using minimum spanning tree algorithm. Then the common subexpressions in the multiple constant multiplier array were extracted and reused to get further reduction in computational complexity. Finally, we gave some results of proposed method to demonstrate its effectiveness and high efficiency in synthesis of FIR filter in VLSI. We have achieved 36% reduction in implementation complexity without performance degradation.

Abstract:Traditionally,we use theoretical formula to obtain some correlative parameter when designing a digital filter.But,in this way,it can′t bring any visual cognition to the actual result of the filter.So it is impossible that optimizing the parameter according to the actual result.In order to solve this question,the paper presents a design method for FIR digital filter based on MATLAB and QuartusⅡ.And through this example it gives the design flow.The result of the software and hardware simulation is analyzed by using of MATLAB and QuartusⅡ.It can easily check up the results and advance the efficiency of the design.

Abstract:The design of FIR filter is essentially an optimization problem. Genetic algorithms (Gas) are used to design the linear phase FIR filter with low and median taps. Improved crossover and mutation operators are proposed depending on the characteristic of the problem. The filter is designed using direct method when the tap is low(less than 18). Incremental tap method is quite useful in the design of median-tap filter (bewtween18-34). Both the two methods get good results. Comparisons with traditional design methods show that genetic algorithms based FIR filter design method has obvious advantage in small problem and is the powerful competitor in medium problem. Suggestions for expanding the adaptive range of Gas are proposed in the end. © 2006 IEEE.

Abstract:FIR (finite impulse response) digital filter design is a fundamental problem in signal processing. In particular, FIR approximation of analog filters (or systems) is ubiquitous not only in signal processing but also in digital implementation of controllers. In this article, we propose a new design method of an FIR digital filter that optimally approximates a given analog filter in the sense of minimizing the H-infinity norm of the sampled-data error system. By using the lifting technique and the KYP (Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov) lemma, we reduce the H-infinity optimization to a convex optimization described by an LMI (linear matrix inequality). We also extend the method to multi-rate and multi-delay systems. A design example is shown to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:Transactions of the Institute of Measurement and Control, Ahead of Print. In this paper, a finite impulse response (FIR) digital filter is redesigned to approximate a delayed analog one via sampled-data [math] discretization in low-frequency domain. First, based on a continuous-time lifting technique, an infinite-dimensional error system is obtained by comparing the delayed analog filter with the FIR digital filter accompanied by an ideal sampler in front and a zero-order holder behind. Then, a finite-dimensional error system, which is satisfied with an equivalent [math] norm with infinite dimensional in low-frequency domain, is acquired by a fast sampling/holding approximation and a discrete-time lifting technique. Furthermore, the FIR digital filter is attained with stability and [math] performance for the finite-dimensional error system in low-frequency domain. Finally, a numerical example is presented to show the validity and superiority of the FIR digital filter redesign.

Abstract:The digital filters play a significant role in the field of digital signal processing (DSP). The finite impulse response (FIR) filter is an attractive choice because of the ease of design and good stability. The digital filters have a wide variety of applications such as signal processing, control systems, telecommunication, etc. They are better than the analogue filters due to their performance. In recent times, software radios have achieved attention owing to requirements for integrated and reconfigurable communication systems. Hence, reconfigurations have emerged as a significant problem in the designs of FIRs. To match the frequencies of DSP applications, higher-order FIRs are required. If length of filters rises, addition and multiplication operations also increase. This paper proposes an efficient hardware design of RFIR that employs modified bacterial foraging optimizations (MBFOs) and common sub-expression eliminations (CSEs) in its executions. MBFOs output restricted counts of filter coefficients with sums of signed-power-of-two (SPT) terms while maintaining the quality of filtered responses. On obtaining coefficients, eliminations are executed by CSEs where hardware complexities are determined in terms of adders. Model sim software validated RFIRs using the Verilog code. The proposed design of RFIRs was compared with existing designs in terms of power usages, frequencies and areas.

Abstract:The technique about how to use pipeline architecture to design high speed FIR filters is illustrated through the process of designing a 13-tap FIR digital filter called digital square root raised cosine filter, for filtering the signals without intersymbol interferences. Taking into account of the capacity of FPGA, an analysis of the resources consumed by the FIR filter is made, and based upon the analysis a conclusion is drawn.

Abstract:A double sine basis function neural network for the design of 2D lowpass filters is presented. This neural network is contrived to have an energy function that coincides with the sum-squared error of the approximation problem at hand and by ensuring that the energy is a monotonic decreasing function, the approximation problem can be solved. The training theorem is proposed, and design of the 2D lowpass filters is improved obviously. It conquers the primary disadvantages of the conventional neural networks that the convergence speed is rather low. The simulation results indicate that there are no fluctuation both in the passband and stopband, and it attains near ideal filter attenuation characteristics.

This is possible through a causal transformation utilizing the tolerance allowance. Abstract:In this paper, a series of square-root-raised-cosine(SRRC) FIR filter with CSD coefficients are designed according to the local search algorithm based on two different error criteria. All the FIR filters are evaluated in a baseband system and the simulated results indicated that based on the symmetry error criteria the FIR filters introduce less noise and have better performance than the filters designed based on the MiniMax criteria.
