Abstract:Single-atom Ptt/CeO <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> catalysts, as promising low-cost and high-efficiency catalysts, can effectively solve the problem of high fuel cell cost and have great commercial prospects in PEMFCs. The study of whether Pt single atoms can be stably adsorbed on CeO <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> carriers has become a top priority of current research. In the framework of DFT, we have systematically studied the mechanism of the influence of stoichiometry on the stability of Pt <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">1</inf> /CeO <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> by tuning the oxygen vacancies. The results show that the formation of oxygen vacancies enhances the Pt adsorption on the CeO <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> surfaces. In particular, the oxygen vacancies can largely affect the stability of Pt, when generated at the nearest neighboring sites of Pt (INN). This is mainly determined by the oxidation state and the coordination environment of Pt, i.e., Pt tends to transfer to a lower oxidation state (+2) by forming the Pt-40 structure when residing at the Ces position. This study may contribute to the realization of catalyst stability regulation and promote the experimental development of new high-efficiency fuel cell electro catalysts.
