Abstract:Let sigma = { sigma( i) | i is an element of I} be some partition of the set of all primes. A subgroup A of a finite group G is said to be: (i) sigma-subnormal in G if there is a subgroup chain A = A (0) <= A (1) <= center dot center dot center dot <= A (n) = G such that either A( i - 1) (sic) A (i) or A( i) / ( A( i - 1 )) A (i) is a sigma( j)-group, j = j( i), for all i = 1 , ... , n; (ii) modular in G if the following conditions are held: (1) < X, A boolean AND Z) = < X, A >boolean AND Z for all X <= G, Z <= G such that X <= Z, and (2) < A, Y boolean AND Z > = < A, Y >boolean AND Z for all Y <= G, Z <= G such that A <= Z; (iii) sigma-quasinormal in G if A is sigma-subnormal and modular in G. Abstract:Throughout this paper, all groups are finite and sigma is some partition of the set of all primes P (that is, sigma = {sigma(i) vertical bar i is an element of I}, where P = boolean OR(i is an element of I)sigma(i) and sigma(i) boolean AND sigma(j) = empty set for all i not equal j). A subgroup A of a group G is said to be sigma-subnormal in G if there is a subgroup chain A = A(0) <= A(1) <= . . . <= A(n) = G such that either A(i-1) >= A(i) or A(i)/(A(i-1))A(i) is a sigma(j)-group for some j = j(i) for all i = 1, . . ., n. In this review, we discuss some known results of the theory of sigma-subnormal subgroups and also some open questions in this line research.

Abstract:Let $\sigma=\{\sigma_j\,:\, j\in J\}$ be a partition of the set $\mathbb{P}$ of all prime numbers. A subgroup $X$ of a finite group $G$ is~\textit{$\sigma$-subnormal} in $G$ if there exists a chain of subgroups $$X=X_0\leq X_1\leq\ldots\leq X_n=G$$ such that, for each $1\leq i\leq n-1$, $X_{i-1}\trianglelefteq X_i$ or $X_i/(X_{i-1})_{X_i}$ is a $\sigma_{j_i}$-group for some $j_i\in J$. Skiba~[12] studied the main properties of $\sigma$-subnormal subgroups in finite groups and showed that the set of all $\sigma$-subnormal subgroups plays a relevant role in the structure of a finite soluble group. In [5], we laid the foundation of a general theory of $\sigma$-subnormal subgroups (and $\sigma$-series) in locally finite groups. It turns out that the main difference between the finite and the locally finite case concerns the behaviour of the join of $\sigma$-subnormal subgroups: in finite groups, $\sigma$-subnormal subgroups form a sublattice of the lattice of all subgroups [3], but this is no longer true for arbitrary locally finite groups. This is similar to what happens with subnormal subgroups, so it makes sense to study the class $\mathfrak{S}_\sigma^\infty$ (resp. $\mathfrak{S}_\sigma$) of locally finite groups in which the join of (resp. of finitely many) $\sigma$-subnormal subgroups is $\sigma$-subnormal. Our aim is to study how much one can extend a group in one of these classes before going outside the same class (see for example Theorems~3.6, 3.8, 5.5 and 5.7). Also, $\sigma$-subnormality criteria for the join of $\sigma$-subnormal subgroups are obtained: similarly to a celebrated theorem of Williams (see [15]), we give a necessary and sufficient conditions for a join of two $\sigma$-subnormal subgroups to always be $\sigma$-subnormal; consequently, we show that the join of two orthogonal $\sigma$-subnormal subgroups is $\sigma$-subnormal (extending a result of Roseblade [11]).

Abstract:Suppose that $ \sigma = \{ {\sigma}_{i} : i \in I \} $ is a partition of the set $ \mathbb{P} $ of all primes. A subgroup $ A $ of a finite group $ G $ is said to be $ \sigma $- subnormal in $ G $ if $ A $ can be joined to $ G $ by a chain of subgroups $ A = A_{0} \subseteq A_{1} \subseteq \cdots \subseteq A_{n} = G $ such that either $ A_{i-1} $ normal in $ A_{i} $ or $ A_{i}/ Core_{A_{i}}(A_{i-1}) $ is a $ {\sigma}_{j} $-group for some $ j \in I $, for every $ 1\leq i \leq n $. A $ \sigma $-subnormality criterion related to products of subgroups of finite $ \sigma $-soluble groups is proved in the paper. As a consequence, a characterisation of the $ \sigma $-Fitting subgroup of a finite $ \sigma $-soluble group naturally emerges.

Abstract:A Schmidt group is a finite non-nilpotent group such that every proper subgroup is nilpotent. In this paper, we prove that if every Schmidt subgroup of a finite group рЭРЇ is subnormal or modular, then G / F вБҐ ( G ) is cyclic. Moreover, for a given prime рЭСЭ, we describe the structure of finite groups with subnormal or modular Schmidt subgroups of order divisible by рЭСЭ.

Let sigma(0) is an element of Pi subset of sigma and let I be a class of finite sigma(0)-groups which is closed under extensions, epimorphic images and subgroups. We say that a finite group G is Pi(I)-primary provided G is either an I-group or sigma(i)-group for some sigma(i) is an element of Pi \ {sigma(0)} and we say that a subgroup A of an arbitrary group G* is Pi(I)-subnormal in G* if there is a subgroup chain A = A(0) <= A(1) <= ... <= A(t) = G* such that either A(i-1) (sic) A(i) or A(i)/(A(i-1))(Ai) is Pi(I)-primary for all i = 1,...,t. We prove that the set L-Pi I (G) of all Pi(I)-subnormal subgroups of G forms a sublattice of the lattice of all subgroups of G and we describe the conditions under which the lattice L-Pi I (G) is modular.

If $M_n < M_{n-1} < \ldots < M_1 < M_{0}=G $ where $M_i$ is a maximal subgroup of $M_{i-1}$ for all $i=1, \ldots ,n$, then $M_n $ ($n > 0$) is an \emph{$n$-maximal subgroup} of $G$. A subgroup $M$ of $G$ is called \emph{modular} if the following conditions are held: (i) $\langle X, M \cap Z \rangle=\langle X, M \rangle \cap Z$ for all $X \leq G, Z \leq G$ such that $X \leq Z$, and (ii) $\langle M, Y \cap Z \rangle=\langle M, Y \rangle \cap Z$ for all $Y \leq G, Z \leq G$ such that $M \leq Z$. Abstract:A super-modular category is a unitary premodular category with Muger center equivalent to the symmetric unitary category of super-vector spaces. Super-modular categories are important alternatives to modular categories as any unitary premodular category is the equivariantization of a either a modular or super-modular category. Physically, super-modular categories describe universal properties of quasiparticles in fermionic topological phases of matter. In general one does not have a representation of the modular group SL(2, Z) associated to a super-modular category, but it is possible to obtain a representation of the (index 3) theta-subgroup: Gamma(theta) < SL(2, Z). We study the image of this representation and conjecture a super-modular analogue of the Ng-Schauenburg congruence subgroup theorem for modular categories, namely that the kernel of the Gamma(theta) representation is a congruence subgroup. We prove this conjecture for any super-modular category that is a subcategory of modular category of twice its dimension, i.e., admitting a minimal modular extension. Conjecturally, every super-modular category admits (precisely 16) minimal modular extensions and our conjecture would be a consequence.
