Abstract:A famous theorem of Shokurov states that a general anticanonical divisor of a smooth Fano threefold is a smooth K3 surface. This is quite surprising since there are several examples where the base locus of the anticanonical system has codimension two. In this paper we show that for four-dimensional Fano manifolds the behaviour is completely opposite: if the base locus is a normal surface, hence has codimension two, all the anticanonical divisors are singular.

Abstract:We show that any Fano fivefold with canonical Gorenstein singularities has an effective anticanonical divisor. Moreover,if a general element of the anticanonical system is reduced, then it has canonical singularities. We also prove nonvanishing of anticanonical system in the case of log canonical Gorenstein singularities.

Abstract:Fix two positive integers $d\geq3$ and $q$. We give an upper bound for anti-canonical volumes of $d$-dimensional $\frac{1}{q}$-lc toric Fano varieties, which corresponds to an upper bound for the dual normalized volumes of the associated $d$-dimensional $\frac{1}{q}$-lc Fano polytopes. And we also construct examples to show that these upper bounds are optimal. Besides, we provide an optimal upper bound for volumes of $d$-dimensional lattice simplices $S$ such that $\frac{1}{q}S$ has exactly one interior lattice point.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the explicit geometry of threefolds, in particular, Fano varieties. We find an explicitly computable positive integer $N$, such that all but a bounded family of Fano threefolds have $N$-complements. This result has many applications on finding explicit bounds of algebraic invariants for threefolds. We provide explicit lower bounds for the first gap of the $\mathbb R$-complementary thresholds for threefolds, the first gap of the global lc thresholds, the smallest minimal log discrepancy of exceptional threefolds, and the volume of log threefolds with reduced boundary and ample log canonical divisor. We also provide an explicit upper bound of the anti-canonical volume of exceptional threefolds. While the bounds in this paper may not and are not expected to be optimal, they are the first explicit bounds of these invariants in dimension three.

Abstract:Over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic, we classify smooth Fano threefolds of Picard number one whose anti-canonical linear systems are not very ample. Abstract:We show that the set of Fano varieties (with arbitrary singularities) whose anticanonical divisors have large Seshadri constants satisfies certain weak and birational boundedness. We also classify singular Fano varieties of dimension $n$ whose anticanonical divisors have Seshadri constants at least $n$, generalizing an earlier result of Liu and the author.

Abstract:For nonsingular projective 4-folds V of general type with plurigenus $P_{m_0}(V) \geq 2$ for some positive integer $m_0$, we show that $\varphi_{m}$ is birational onto its image for all integers $m \geq 76m_0+77$ and the canonical volume Vol(V) has the lower bound $\frac{1}{1680m_0(m_0+1)^3}$. This improves earlier results of Meng Chen.

The proof relies on a careful study of divisorial elementary contractions such that , together with the author's previous work on Fano 4-folds. Abstract:We present sharp upper bounds on the volume, Mahler volume and multiplicity for Fano simplices depending on the dimension and Gorenstein index. These bounds rely on the interplay between lattice simplices and unit fraction partitions. Moreover, we present an efficient procedure for explicitly classifying Fano simplices of any dimension and Gorenstein index, and we carry out the classification up to dimension four for various Gorenstein indices.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth Fano threefold over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic. Assume that $|-K_X|$ is very ample and each of the index and the Picard number is equal to one. We prove that $3 \leq g \leq 12$ and $g \neq 11$ for the genus $g$ of $X$. Moreover, we show that there exists no smooth curve on $X$ along which the blowup is Fano.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate singularities on fibrations and related topics. We prove a conjecture of Shokurov and McKernan on singularities on Fano type fibrations and a conjecture of the author on singularities on log Calabi-Yau fibrations. From these we derive a variant of a conjecture of McKernan and Prokhorov on rationally connected varieties with nef anti-canonical divisor. We discuss other applications including existence of bounded klt complements and gonality of fibres of del Pezzo fibrations. We prove a general result on controlling multiplicities of fibres of certain fibrations (not necessarily of Fano type) which is the key ingredient of the proofs of the above results.
