Abstract:Highly photoluminescent all-inorganic copper based perovskite Cs2CuX4 (X = Cl, Br, and Br/I) quantum dots (QDs) were facilely synthesized and investigated for the first time. These perovskite QDs exhibited high quantum yield for blue-green light and excellent stability, while the particle size and photoluminescence wavelength could be tuned via the molar ratio of the raw materials.

Abstract:Novel all-inorganic Sb-based lead-free double perovskite Cs2AgSbX6 (X = Cl, Br or I) quantum dots exhibiting excellent air stability and strong blue emission with photoluminescence quantum yields of 31.33% were synthesized for the first time using a surfactant-assisted method. The ligand, oleic acid, could control the crystallization of the pure perovskite phase and significantly passivate the surface.

Abstract:Novel quantum-dot light-emitting diodes based on all-inorganic perovskite CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) nanocrystals are reported. The well-dispersed, single-crystal quantum dots (QDs) exhibit high quantum yields, and tunable light emission wavelength. The demonstration of these novel perovskite QDs opens a new avenue toward designing optoelectronic devices, such as displays, photodetectors, solar cells, and lasers.

Abstract:Abstract Lead halide perovskite quantum dots (QDs) possess color‐tunable and narrow‐band emissions and are very promising for lighting and display applications, but they suffer from lead toxicity and instability. Although lead‐free Bi‐based and Sn‐based perovskite QDs (CsSnX 3 , Cs 2 SnX 6 , and (CH 3 NH 3 ) 3 Bi 2 X 9 ) are reported, they all show low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and poor stability. Here, the synthesis of Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 perovskite QDs with high PLQY and excellent stability is reported. Via a green and facile process using ethanol as the antisolvent, as‐synthesized Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 QDs show a blue emission at 410 nm with a PLQY up to 19.4%. The whole series of Cs 3 Bi 2 X 9 (X = Cl, Br, and I) QDs by mixing precursors can cover the photoluminescence emission range from 393 to 545 nm. Furthermore, Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 QDs show excellent photostability and moisture stability due to the all‐inorganic nature and the surface passivation by BiOBr, which enables the one‐pot synthesis of Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 QD/silica composite. A lead‐free perovskite white light‐emitting diode is fabricated by simply combining the composite of Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 QD/silica with Y 3 Al 5 O 12 phosphor. As a new member of lead‐free perovskite QDs, Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 QDs open up a new route for the fabrication of optoelectronic devices due to their excellent stability and photophysical characteristics.

Research on the photoluminescence properties of Cu2+-doped perovskite CsPbCl3 quantum dots

Abstract:CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, and I) quantum dots (QDs) and Cu2+-doped CsPbCl3 QDs with different Cu-to-Pb molar ratios were synthesized via a solvent-based thermal synthesis method. The photoluminescence (PL) properties of these Cu2+-doped CsPbCl3 QDs were also investigated in this study. The results showed that with the increase in the Cl- concentration the surface defects of CsPb(Cl/Br)3 QDs increased, which resulted in an increase in the non-radiative recombination of excitons and weakened the PL intensity. Moreover, Cu2+-doped CsPbCl3 QDs maintained the cubic crystal structure of the initial phases. Owing to the doping of Cu2+ ions, the surface defects of CsPbCl3 QDs were effectively eliminated, which facilitated the excitonic recombination via a radiative pathway. The PL quantum yields (PLQYs) of Cu2+-doped CsPbCl3 QDs were increased to 51%, showing great photostability. From the results, it is believed that Cu:CsPbCl3 QDs can be widely used in optoelectronic devices.
Facile Synthesis of CsPbX3 Perovskite Quantum Dots via an Open-Air Solution Strategy

Abstract:In this work, a facile solution based on the supersaturated crystallization principle combined with an ion exchange strategy was employed for the preparation of all-inorganic lead halide perovskite CsPbX 3 quantum dots (X = Cl, Br, I, and their combinations) under an ambient atmosphere. As the results showed, with the progression of Br–Cl and Br–I ion exchange, the green emission of pure CsPbBr 3 gradually turned to cyan and blue, yellow, and red, respectively. Thus, the emission featured a broad wavelength range from 472 nm to 638 nm. With regard to the morphology, the as-synthesized quantum dots were all spherical and monodisperse, and the crystal size increased from the blue to the red samples. Furthermore, the chemical composition investigated by energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed the successful Br–Cl or Br–I ion exchange, and the obtained samples were expressed as CsPbBr 1.9 Cl 1.1 , CsPbBr 2.1 Cl 0.9 , CsPbBr 3 , CsPbBr 1.7 I 1.3 , and CsPbBr 0.9 I 2.1 for blue, cyan, green, yellow, and red samples, respectively. In future work, the as-synthesized samples will be investigated for use in an optoelectronic device application.

Abstract:The synthesis of perovskite-based blue light-emitting particles is valuable for several applications as the excellent optical properties and performances of the constituting materials associated with multi-exciton generation can be exploited. However, the preparation of perovskite precursors requires high temperatures, resulting in a complex manufacturing process. This paper proposes a one-pot method to synthesize CsPbClBr2 blue light-emitting quantum dots (QDs). In the case of nonstoichiometric precursor synthesis, the CsPbClBr2 QDs coexisted with additional products. The solvent for synthesizing mixed perovskite nanoparticles (containing chloride) was selected by mixing dimethylformamide (DMF) and/or dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) in different ratios. When only DMF was used with the stoichiometric CsBr and PbX2 (X = Cl, Br) ratio, the quantum yield was 70.55%, and superior optical properties were achieved. Moreover, no discoloration was observed for 400 h, and a high photoluminescence intensity was maintained. When deionized water was added to form a double layer with hexane, the luminescence was maintained for 15 days. In other words, the perovskite did not easily decompose even when in contact with water, which suppressed the release of Pb2+, which are heavy metal atoms in the structure. Overall, the proposed one-pot method for all-inorganic-based perovskite QDs provides a platform for synthesizing superior blue light-emitting materials.

Abstract:All-inorganic lead halide perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) are among the most highly applicable luminescent materials for wide-color-gamut displays. Since the development of all-inorganic PQDs, several methods have been implemented to enhance their photo-luminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and stability. However, most treatment procedures only focus on optimizing the green CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum dots. In this work, we extended the usage of SCN− ligands to modify the surface of blue, green, and red PQDs for improving their luminescence properties. The presence of SCN− on the surface of PQDs was confirmed via Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. On the basis of the X-ray photoelectron spectra, the surface modification of PQDs enhanced the PL intensity and PLQY due to the removal of Pb2+ surface defects. The modified PQDs were applied to quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs), and the performance of the devices was satisfactory, thereby indicating their potential application in high-quality displays.

Abstract:Ultrasmall lead‐free copper‐based Cs3Cu2I5 quantum dots (QDs) with a deep‐blue emission are synthesized through metal–organic‐framework confined growth method at room temperature. The obtained Cs3Cu2I5 QDs film shows excellent stability for 1440 h in a high humidity environment (relative humidity over 70%) without any encapsulation due to the protection of the MOF‐74 matrix against the external environment. All‐inorganic lead‐free Cs3Cu2I5 perovskite‐derivant quantum dots (QDs) have attracted tremendous attention due to their nontoxicity and unique optoelectronic properties. However, the traditional hot‐injection method requires high temperatures and multiple ligands to confine the growth of QDs. Herein, a strategy is reported to spontaneously synthesize ultrasmall Cs3Cu2I5 QDs within metal–organic‐frameworks (MOFs) MOF‐74 at room temperature (RT) with an average diameter of 4.33 nm. The obtained Cs3Cu2I5 QDs exhibit an evident deep‐blue emission with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage coordinates of (0.17, 0.07), owing to the strong quantum confinement effect. Due to the protection of MOF‐74, the Cs3Cu2I5 QDs demonstrate superior stability, and the photoluminescence quantum yield retains 89% of the initial value after the storage of 1440 h under the environment with relative humidity exceeding 70%. Besides, triplet–triplet annihilation upconversion emission is observed within the composite of Cs3Cu2I5@MOF‐74, which brings out apparent temperature‐dependent photoluminescence. This study reveals a facile method for fabricating ultrasmall lead‐free perovskite‐derivant QDs at RT without multiple ligands. Besides, the temperature‐dependent photoluminescence of Cs3Cu2I5@MOF‐74 may open up a new way to develop the applications of temperature sensors or other related optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:Recently, all-inorganic perovskites CsPbX3 (X= Cl, Br and I) quantum dots (QDs) have drawn great attentions because of their PL spectra tunable over the whole visible spectral region (400-700 nm) and adjustable bandgap, which revealed a promising potential on the field of photoelectronic devices, such as solar cells, LEDs and sensors. In this paper, CsPbX3 QDs and hybrid QDs, CsPbClxBr3-x and CsPbBrxI3-x were synthesized via one-step and two-step methods comparably. The optical bandgaps of CsPbCl3, CsPbBr3, and CsPbI3, were calculated as 3.08, 2.36, and 1.73eV, respectively, based on the Tauc's equation and UV absorption spectra. Ionic displacement and phase transformation occurred during the mixing process were found based on the monitoring of PL spectra and HRTEM characterization. The long-term stability, dried, high quality and two-dimensional hybrid CsPbBrxI(3-x) QDs powders could be achieved via the two-step method. Polar solution inductions were used to wash and purify the CsPbX3 QDs, which help obtain of various compositions and well crystallize all-inorganic perovskites QDs powders.
Ultrasmall CsPbBr3 Blue Emissive Perovskite Quantum Dots using K-alloyed Cs4PbBr6 Nanocrystals as Precursors

Abstract:We report a colloidal synthesis of blue emissive, stable cube-shaped CsPbBr3 quantum dots (QDs) in the strong quantum confinement regime via a dissolution-recrystallization starting from pre-synthesized (KxCs1-x)4PbBr6 nanocrystals which are then reacted with PbBr2. This is markedly different from the known case of Cs4PbBr6 nanocrystals that react within seconds with PbBr2 and get transformed into much larger, green emitting CsPbBr3 nanocrystals. Here, instead, the conversion of (KxCs1-x)4PbBr6 nanocrystals to CsPbBr3 QDs occurs in a time span of hours, and tuning of the QDs size is achieved by adjusting the concentration of precursors. The QDs exhibit excitonic features in optical absorption that are tunable in the 420 - 452 nm range, accompanied by blue photoluminescence with quantum yield around 60%. Detailed spectroscopic investigations in both the single and multi-exciton regime reveal the exciton fine structure and the effect of Auger recombination of these CsPbBr3 QDs, confirming theoretical predictions for this system.

Abstract:Although all-inorganic CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) have evoked exciting new opportunities for optoelectronic applications due to their remarkable optical properties, their emission color tunability has not been investigated to any appreciable extent. In this work, double/triple CsPbX3 perovskite quantum dots with precise ratios of Cl/Br or Br/I are synthesized and their luminescence (410–700 nm) is explored. A group of down-converted CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) perovskite quantum dot light-emitting diode (LED) devices were constructed to demonstrate the potential use of such double/triple-halide CsPbX3 perovskite quantum dots with full-spectrum luminescence. Based on density functional theory, we theoretically explored the properties of CsPbX3 with double/triple anion atoms. The calculated band gaps provided strong support that the full-spectrum luminescence (410–700 nm) of double/triple CsPbX3 can be realized with the change of the mixed-halide ratios, and hence that such PQDs are of potential use in optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:In article number 1900412, Juan Du, Yuxin Leng, Miao Zhou, and co-workers successfully fabricate single CsPbBr3/CdS core/shell structured quantum dots (QDs) by capping a CsPbBr3 QD core with a CdS shell. The core/shell QDs exhibit ultrahigh chemical stability and nonblinking photoluminescence. Furthermore, low threshold whispering-gallery-mode lasing with a high-quality factor is achieved by incorporating CsPbBr3/CdS QDs into microtubule resonators.

Abstract:Perovskite and chalcogenide quantum dots (QDs) are important nano semiconductors. It has been a challenge to synthesize heterostructural QDs combining perovskite and chalcogenide with tailorable photoelectronic properties. In this report, heterostructural CsPbX3-PbS (X = Cl, Br, I) QDs were successfully synthesized via a room temperature in situ transformation route. The CsPbX3-PbS QDs show a tunable dual emission feature with the visible and near-infrared (NIR) photoluminescence (PL) corresponding to CsPbX3 and PbS, respectively. Typically, the formation and evolution of the heterostructural CsPbBr3-PbS QDs with reaction time was investigated. Femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (TAS) was applied to illuminate the exciton dynamics in CsPbBr3-PbS QDs. The mild synthetic method and TAS proved perovskite to PbS energy transfer may pave the way toward highly efficient QD photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices.
Intense blue emission from one-pot synthesized quaternary CsZnxPb1-xBr3 perovskite quantum dots

Abstract:Suitable ions incorporation into CsPbX3 perovskite nanocrystals can improve the luminescence efficiency, chemical stability, and more importantly modify the emission bands from semiconductor band gap change, for various applications. In this research, high content Zn2+ was introduced into CsPbBr3 quantum dots through a simple one-pot synthesis method. A new intense blue emission centered at 440 nm was observed from heavy Zn alloyed nanocrystals, for increased semiconductor band gap, along with green emission at 510 nm from CsPbBr3 quantum dots, when the ratio of ZnBr2/PbBr2 precursor was larger than unity. The appearance of Zn 3d peaks and the decreasing of bonding energy of Pb 4f peaks from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy spectra indicated that Zn2+ ions were incorporated into CsPbBr3 quantum dots to form CsZnxPb1-xBr3 alloyed quantum dots. The elements quantitative analysis showed that partial Zn2+ ions in precursors were involved in the synthesis of the quantum dots, and the Zn alloyed perovskite nanocrystals could be described as CsPbBr3, CsZn0.43Pb0.57Br3, CsZn0.54Pb0.46Br3, CsZn0.68Pb0.32Br3 respectively when the ZnBr2/PbBr2 precursor ratios were 0:1, 1:1, 3:1 and 5:1. The X-ray diffraction patterns confirmed that the incorporation of small radius Zn2+ ions into crystals led to crystal shrinkage, instead of crystal phase change. The transmission electron microscope images of the nanocrystals showed cubic geometries and reduced average sizes from 23.3 nm to 17.6 nm with Zn2+ content increase, resulting in the blue shift of emission bands. The energy dispersive spectroscopy elemental mapping of nanocrystals also confirmed the incorporation of Zn2+ ions into the nanocrystals.

Abstract:Mn-doped all-inorganic perovskite quantum dots (QDs) provide prominent applications in the fields of low-cost light source or display, because of their remarkable properties including dual-color emission and reduced lead content, as well as high photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) and high stability. However, the existing synthesis approaches usually require hash conditions, such as high temperature and nitrogen protection, which is a major hurdler for the practical manufacturing. In addition, the significantly high Mn substitution ratio in CsPbX3 QDs is still challenging. The real dual-color emission with two strong emission peaks in the Mn-doped all-inorganic perovskite QDs has attracted great interest. Here we present a gram-scale approach to synthesize both CsPbxMn1−xCl3 and CsPb1−xMnxClyBr3−y QDs at 100 °C in the air with high Mn substitution ratio, up to 55.64% atomically. The as-prepared CsPb1−xMnxClyBr3−y QDs exhibit high PLQYs of 62.41% and dual-color emission with two strong emission peaks around at 400–450 nm and 600 nm, respectively. The enhanced peak at 400–450 nm is a result of the hybrid halides in CsPbBrxCl3−x host. Furthermore, the unique advantage of the optical emission and high PLQYs properties of the CsPbxMn1−xCl3 QDs has been demonstrated as invisible ink for encryption applications and polymer composites. Our gram-scale synthesis approach for Mn-doped all-inorganic perovskite QDs may boost the future research and practical applications of QDs-based white LED, spintronics, and molecular barcoding.

Abstract:Recently, Kovalenko and co‐workers and Li and co‐workers developed CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) inorganic perovskite quantum dots (IPQDs), which exhibited ultrahigh photoluminescence (PL) quantum yields (QYs), low‐threshold lasing, and multicolor electroluminescence. However, the usual synthesis needs high temperature, inert gas protection, and localized injection operation, which are severely against applications. Moreover, the so unexpectedly high QYs are very confusing. Here, for the first time, the IPQDs' room‐temperature (RT) synthesis, superior PL, underlying origins and potentials in lighting and displays are reported. The synthesis is designed according to supersaturated recrystallization (SR), which is operated at RT, within few seconds, free from inert gas and injection operation. Although formed at RT, IPQDs' PLs have QYs of 80%, 95%, 70%, and FWHMs of 35, 20, and 18 nm for red, green, and blue emissions. As to the origins, the observed 40 meV exciton binding energy, halogen self‐passivation effect, and CsPbX3@X quantum‐well band alignment are proposed to guarantee the excitons generation and high‐rate radiative recombination at RT. Moreover, such superior optical merits endow them with promising potentials in lighting and displays, which are primarily demonstrated by the white light‐emitting diodes with tunable color temperature and wide color gamut.
Blue-Violet Emission with Near-Unity Photoluminescence Quantum Yield from Cu(I)-Doped Rb3InCl6 Single Crystals

Abstract:Low-dimensional metal halides have attracted considerable attention due to their unique optoelectronic properties. In this study, we report a solid-state synthesis of air-stable all-inorganic Pb-free zero-dimensional (0D) Rb3InCl6 single crystals (SCs). By a heterovalent doping of Cu+ ions, the Rb3InCl6:Cu+ SCs featured an efficient blue-violet emission with a greatly enhanced photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield (95%) and an ultralong PL lifetime (13.95 mu s). Combined with temperature-dependent PL and density functional theory calculations, we conclude that the efficient electronic isolation, enhanced exciton-phonon coupling, and electronic structure modulation after doping lead to bright blue-violet emission. Furthermore, the SCs exhibited excellent stability, maintaining 90% of the initial PL intensity after being stored in ambient conditions for more than two months. The results provide a new strategy for improving the optoelectronic properties of 0D all-inorganic metal halides, which is promising for potential light-emitting applications.
Nanocrystals of Cesium Lead Halide Perovskites (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br, and I): Novel Optoelectronic Materials Showing Bright Emission with Wide Color Gamut

Abstract:Metal halides perovskites, such as hybrid organic–inorganic CH3NH3PbI3, are newcomer optoelectronic materials that have attracted enormous attention as solution-deposited absorbing layers in solar cells with power conversion efficiencies reaching 20%. Herein we demonstrate a new avenue for halide perovskites by designing highly luminescent perovskite-based colloidal quantum dot materials. We have synthesized monodisperse colloidal nanocubes (4–15 nm edge lengths) of fully inorganic cesium lead halide perovskites (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br, and I or mixed halide systems Cl/Br and Br/I) using inexpensive commercial precursors. Through compositional modulations and quantum size-effects, the bandgap energies and emission spectra are readily tunable over the entire visible spectral region of 410–700 nm. The photoluminescence of CsPbX3 nanocrystals is characterized by narrow emission line-widths of 12–42 nm, wide color gamut covering up to 140% of the NTSC color standard, high quantum yields of up to 90%, and radiative lifetimes in the range of 1–29 ns. The compelling combination of enhanced optical properties and chemical robustness makes CsPbX3 nanocrystals appealing for optoelectronic applications, particularly for blue and green spectral regions (410–530 nm), where typical metal chalcogenide-based quantum dots suffer from photodegradation.

Abstract:All-inorganic perovskites CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) have attracted worldwide interest due to their excellent luminescent performances. Meanwhile, Cs4PbBr6 have been studied because they can enhance the luminescent efficiency and stability of CsPbBr3. Herein, we introduced a microfluidic method based on room-temperature supersaturated recrystallization to synthesize blue-emitting CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) and green-emitting CsPbBr3/Cs4PbBr6 NCs. The ultrasmall CsPbBr3 NCs emitted at a deep blue wavelength of 461 nm with the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 15 nm. transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results demonstrated that ultrasmall CsPbBr3 NCs with the average particle size of 3.8 nm were synthesized and the CsPbBr3 NCs were crystallized as monoclinic structure. X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) analysis suggested that ultrasmall CsPbBr3 suffered from VBr defect and the surface passivation of Cs4PbBr6 possessed a low level of VBr defect density. The lifetime of CsPbBr3/Cs4PbBr6 was much longer than that of CsPbBr3. The results showed that ultrasmall CsPbBr3 NCs can be regarded as a source of blue-emitting material and CsPbBr3/Cs4PbBr6 NCs had a better stability.Graphic abstract
