Abstract:A polyoxometalate-based microsphere catalyst has been prepared through the one-step template method using phosphotungstic acid as the core and TiO2 as the shell, denoted as PW12@TiO2. Multiple characterisation methods namely FT-IR, XRD, XPS, Raman, SEM and TEM were used to characterize the resultant materials, and results indicate that the phosphotungstic acid was encapsulated into the TiO2 phase as the core to form the core-shell structure. The resultant composites were used as catalysts for the oxidative desulfurization of a model oil with H2O2 as oxidant and acetonitrile as solvent. Catalyst PW12@TiO2 exhibited good catalytic activity, with 99.9% S-removal of dibenzothiophene after 60 min under the optimum conditions. Leaching and recycling experiments revealed that the PW12@TiO2 catalyst has excellent recyclability, and there was no significant decrease in S-removal after seven cycles under identical reaction conditions, which could be attributed to the fabrication of the core-shell structure, thus inhibiting the loss in the active sites.

Abstract:Spherical and well-dispersed silica/poly[styrene-co-(acrylic acid)] (SiO2/PSA) core-shell particles have been synthesized using an improved phase-inversion process. The resulting particles were successfully used as supports for polyolefin catalysts in the production of polyethylene with broadmolecular weight distribution. Through the vapor phase, instead of the liquid phase in the traditional process, a non-solvent was introduced into a mixture of micrometer-sized SiO2 and PSA solution. The core-shell structure of the resulting SiO2/PSA microspheres was confirmed using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transfer infrared spectrometry, thermogravimetric analysis and measurement of nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms. In order to avoid agglomeration of particles and to obtain a good dispersion of the SiO2/PSA core-shell microspheres, the non-solvent was added slowly. As the concentration of PSA solution increased, the surface morphology of the core-shell particles became looser and more irregular. However, the surface area and the pore volume remained the same under varying PSA concentrations. The SiO2/PSA core-shell microspheres obtained were used as a catalyst carrier system in which the core supported (n-BuCp)(2)ZrCl2 and the shell supported TiCl4. Ethylene/1-hexene copolymerization results indicated that the zirconocene and titanium-based Ziegler-Natta catalysts were compatible in the hybrid catalyst, showing high activities. Abstract:A series of hybrid catalyst @ZSM-5-MCM-41 was prepared in which H3PMo6W6O40 were supported in the pore of micro/mesoporous materials ZSM-5-MCM-41 and HKUST-1 by one-pot method. Five types of ZSM-5-MCM-41 were prepared and corresponding ODS catalysts @ZSM-5-MCM-41 were synthesized. The prepared catalysts were characterized and the most efficient catalyst was selected by XRD, FT-IR, UV–vis, N2 adsorption-desorption, SEM, TEM. The removal of DBT reached 98.13 % by using @ZSM-5-MCM-41−2 under 60 °C with molecular oxygen as oxidant after 150 min. After desulfurization, the catalyst can be simply recovered and reused 7 times with an unnoticeable decrease in catalytic activity, indicating the successful combination of heteropolyacids and micro/mesoporous materials for desulfurization.

Abstract:Novel core-shell structured WO3/TiO2 spheroids were synthesized through a conventional incipient wetness impregnation method and systematically characterized by X-ray diffraction, N2 sorption, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, laser Raman spectroscopy, thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and NH3 temperature-programmed desorption. It was found that tungsten species are highly dispersed in the interlayer between the core and the shell layer of the TiO2 support and that there are interactions between the tungsten species and the TiO2 support that could provide abundant oxygen defect lattice. It is also found that the as-prepared WO3/TiO2 material is highly active as a catalyst for the selective oxidation of cyclopentene to glutaraldehyde with aqueous hydrogen peroxide as the green oxidant. Proper content and high dispersion of tungsten species, the interaction between the tungsten species and the support, as well as the medium strong acidity of the novel WO3/TiO2 catalyst all account for this material's high activity.
Preparation and Catalytic Performance of Noble Metal Loaded Core-Shell Structured Catalyst

Abstract:Core-shell structured zeolites with ZSM-5 as core and dendritic SiO2 as shell were successfully prepared using cetyltrimetylammonium bromide (CTAB) as surfactant, urea as alkaline source and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as silicate source in the microemulsion system composed of cyclohexane and n-pentanol. The effects of the preparation conditions such as temperature, time, addition of urea and TEOS on the preparation of the catalyst were investigated. The zeolites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and N2 adsorption-desorption. The results indicated that the obtained core-shell structured zeolites exhibited excellent monodispersity, integrity and hydrothermal stability when the preparation temperature was between 100-120℃ , reaction time was 4 h, the molar ratio of urea to TEOS was 1 and the molar ratio of TEOS to ZSM-5 was 0.9-1.2. Finally, the noble metal Pt was loaded on the dendritic mesoporous SiO2 shell and the obtained bifunctional catalysts of Pt/ZSM-5@MS exhibited high catalytic activity and reusability in the one-pot preparation of methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) from acetone.

Abstract:Photocatalytic technology has attracted wide attention in the application of sewage treatment. Core-shell spheres can have better properties of photocatalytic performance because of the interaction between the core and shell layers with stable core materials. TiO2@SiO2 core-shell microspheres belong to inorganic core-shell microspheres which have gained more and more attention. In this paper, diazo-resin (DR) was chosento crosslink shell and core, which can be a novel way in the synthesis of monodisperse TiO2@DR@SiO2 core-shell microspheres. Because of core-shell structures with TiO2 surface, the obtained TiO2@DR@SiO2 microspheres can be used as photocatalysts.
Atomically Permeated MoP‐WOx Core‐Shell Catalysts for Efficient and Selective Oxidation of Thiophenic Sulfides in Fuels via Direct Electron Transfer Mechanism

Abstract:The strongly coupled core‐shell heterostructure catalyst composed of the crystalline molybdenum phosphide core and the amorphous tungsten oxide shell is developed for efficient and selective oxidation of thiophenic sulfides in fuels. The superior catalytic performance results from the interfacial permeation effect of tungsten atoms and the surface oxidation pathway based on direct electron transfer. Heterogeneous interfaces designed rationally in catalysts can induce geometrical, compositional, and electronic effects that can be applied to modulate catalytically active sites and consequently accelerate reaction kinetics. Here, a core‐shell heterostructure catalyst consisting of crystalline molybdenum phosphide (MoP) cores and amorphous tungsten oxide (WOx) shells on porous carbon nanosheets (PCN) is developed for oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of fuels. The strongly coupled core‐shell heterogeneous interface triggers a distinctive atomic permeation effect that induces substantial electron transfer from MoP to WOx and subsequent generation of electron‐rich W sites, consequently optimizing the adsorption of intermediates and substrates. The resulting catalyst (WOx@MoP/PCN) demonstrates a turnover frequency as high as 768.1 h−1 for ODS at 60 °C, exceeding that of almost all the state‐of‐the‐art ODS catalysts by 1–2 orders of magnitude. Moreover, a novel surface oxidation pathway based on direct electron transfer is identified in the WOx@MoP/PCN‐H2O2 system, which bypasses the formation of reactive oxygen species, consequently endowing the system with a moderate redox potential. Thus, WOx@MoP/PCN exhibits unprecedented selectivity, achieving 100% removal of thiophenic sulfides from real diesel with minimal consumption of oxidant.

Abstract:In this paper, we report a self-assembly method to synthesize high-quality ZnCo2O4@CeO2 core@shell microspheres with tunable CeO2 thickness. ZnCo2O4 spheres were first synthesized as the core, followed by a controlled CeO2 shell coating process. The thickness of CeO2 shell could be easily tuned by varying the feeding molar ratio of Ce/Co. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) images and scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) image have identified the core@shell structure of these samples. In CO oxidation tests these ZnCo2O4@CeO2 core@shell microspheres exhibited promising catalytic performance, and the catalytic activity of the best sample is even close to the traditional noble metal-CeO2 system, attaining 100% CO conversion at a relatively low temperature of 200 °C. Cycling tests confirm their good stability of these core@shell microspheres besides activity. Their high catalytic performance should be attributed to the core@shell structure formation, and moreover further H2-temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) results revealed the possible synergistic effects between the two components of ZnCo2O4 and CeO2.
Engineering the core shell structure CoMnOx@OTS cubic catalyst with excellent water resistant for low-temperature catalytic combustion of VOCs

Abstract:The design of core-shell structure catalysts with excellent activity, stability and water resistance is one of the effective strategies to realize their application in catalytic combustion of VOCs. Since octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) is an excellent hydrophobic coating, it was used to prepare superhydrophobic surfaces by forming hydrophobic monolayers on the surface of CoMnOx nanostructured templates. The CoMnOx@OTS core-shell structures were successfully constructed by overcoating OTS on the surface of CoMnOx-MOF nanocube and evaluated the catalytic combustion of toluene. The thickness of CoMnOx@OTS cubic crystal was adjusted by controlling the content of OTS (2 wt%, 4 wt% and 10 wt%). Due to the synergistic effect between CoMnOx and OTS, CoMnOx@OTS-1 exhibited the superior catalytic activity, stability and water resistance. The CoMnOx@OTS-1 catalytic activity was consistently maintained at about 90% in the presence of 5 vol% H2O. The content of OTS hydrophobic layer at 2 wt% reached the optimum water resistance. This is mainly attributed to the role and contribution of the hydrophobic functional group -OH from the OTS surface, which can greatly prevent the adsorption of water molecules on the active site. This work reveals new ideas for the preparation of core-shell structured cubic crystal by hydrophobic layer-coated bimetallic oxides, as well as a deeper understanding of the catalytic oxidation of toluene.

Abstract:SiO2/TiO2-Pt core/shell nanostructures with Pt nanoparticles well dispersed in the TiO2 shell were prepared and characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. The photocatalytic activity of the samples was evaluated using the reaction of decomposition of orange II in liquid phase. While the SiO2/TiO2-Pt nanostructure displayed a similar photocatalytic activity to that of Degussa P25, the former can be easily separated from the reaction medium by sedimentation. Interestingly, the photocatalytic activity of the core/shell nanostructures was observed to be improved upon catalyst recycling. It was also observed that the presence of Pt can indeed enhance the photocatalytic performance of TiO2 catalyst. The photocatalyst described in this work represents a potential catalyst system for practical applications in water treatment.

Abstract:In the present work, a novel microchannel device was developed and used for the preparation of core-shell microspheres combining with a dextran/poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (DEX/PEGDA) aqueous two-phase system. Silica@silica core-shell microspheres were prepared as a model material. Silica@silica core-shell microspheres with different sizes of cores and thicknesses of shells were prepared by using different flowrate ratios of DEX/silica and PEGDA/silica aqueous solutions. The content of colloidal silica and the calcination temperature have a significant effect on the texture properties of the prepared core-shell microspheres. The surface area decreased from 199 to 177 m2/g with an increase in the colloidal silica content from 30 to 60 wt %. For a specific colloidal silica content (50 wt %), with the increase in calcination temperature from room temperature to 650 °C, the total pore volume went through a maximum of 0.7 cm3 g-1 with a surface area of 178 m2 g-1 and pore size of 7.32 nm at 450 °C. Due to the accumulation of metal nanoparticles in DEX, different metal nanoparticles (Ni and Pd) were successfully introduced into the core of the core-shell microspheres for the preparation of silica/metal nanoparticles@silica core-shell microsphere catalysts. The catalysts showed similar catalytic performance as the metal nanoparticles for hydrogenation of 4-nitrophenol with a conversion higher than 95%. However, the core-shell microsphere catalyst is much easier to recover. The reuse experiments indicated that the core-shell catalyst has high stability.
Preparation and Performance Study of Pd/carbon Microspheres Core-Shell Structured Electro Catalysts

Abstract:Carbon microspheres were prepared via a hydrothermal method with glucose,sucrose and starch as the sources of carbon. Then three types of Pd/C core-shell structured electro catalysts were prepared by reduction. The samples were characterized by XRD,IR and SEM. The electrochemically performance were charactrized by casting the electro catalysts on the electrodes. The re-sults showed that the resulting carbon microspheres have rich hydroxyl functional groups and metal palladium has better load per-formance on such carbon microspheres when the starch was used as carbon source. The corresponding Pd/carbon spheres core-shell structure electro-catalyst also showed better electrochemical activity. Three types of Pd/carbon spheres core-shell structured electro catalysts have better catalytic activity for the oxidation of ethylene glycol compared with the oxidation of ethanol.
A Novel Ternary Catalyst PW4@MOF-808@SBA-15 for Deep Extraction Oxidation Desulfurization of Model Diesel

Abstract:In this work, a novel heterogeneous catalyst consisting of peroxophosphotungstate, microporous MOF-808, and mesoporous SBA-15 was synthesized, characterized, and used to remove sulfides from model fuel. The prepared material, PW4@MOF-808@SBA-15, exhibits excellent catalytic activity with a desulfurization efficiency of 99.8% in 60 min for multicomponent simulated fuel, and the desulfurization rate can reach more than 90% after ten consecutive cycles. The excellent catalytic activity and reusability are attributed to the hierarchically porous hybrid material MOF-808@SBA-15, which can effectively encapsulate PW4 and provide a site for the oxidation of sulfides.

Abstract:Porous SiO2@Cu/Ni core-shell nanomaterials were prepared by the sol-gel method. The results of HADDF-STEM and XRD indicated that Cu and Ni were evenly distributed on the surface of the SiO2 supporter. XPS and H2-TPR showed that the chemical state of Cu and Ni were conducive to the desulfurization reaction. The catalytic performance of samples was evaluated through the desulfurization ratios using 4, 6-Dimethyldibenzothiophene as the model sulfide. The effect of metal loading, Ni:Cu ratios, and temperature on the desulfurization, the selectivity of sulfone and 3-3′-dimethylbiphenyl was investigated. The results suggested that the desulfurization activities of 20 wt % SiO2@Cu/Ni were much higher than those of the other catalysts. Due to the synergistic effect among Cu, Ni, and the supporter, the desulfurization rate and selectivity of sulfone and 3-3′-dimethylbiphenyl were all 100% under the suitable conditions. And after the reaction, ICP-OES results showed that the catalyst composition was unchanged, indicating that SiO2@Cu/Ni had good stability while maintaining excellent catalytic performance. Also, the desulfurization mechanism of SiO2@Cu/Ni core-shell nanomaterials was proposed in the present work.

Abstract:Alkyl-substituted dibenzothiophenes such as 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene are a kind of typical refractory sulfur compound in fuel oil. Herein, three-dimensional ordered macro–mesoporous (3DOM) tungsten oxide catalysts were successfully prepared for aerobic oxidative desulfurization of 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene. The experimental results indicated that the as-prepared material 3DOM WOx-400 not only contained a hexagonal packed nanoporous structure but also abundant oxygen defects on its skeleton, exhibiting aerobic oxidative desulfurization of over 99% in 4 h. Moreover, sulfur removal could still reach 99% after recycling five times. Through free radical capture experiments, the superoxide radical is reasonably proposed in the mechanism. Conventional wisdom holds that strong metal-support interactions can benefit the catalyst performance, but there is a knowledge gap in generalizing this effect across different metals. Here, we have successfully developed a generalizable strong metal-support interaction strategy guided by Tammann temperatures of materials, enabling functional oxide encapsulation of transition metal nanocatalysts. As an illustrative example, Co@BaAl 2 O 4 core@shell is synthesized and tracked in real-time through in-situ microscopy and spectroscopy, revealing an unconventional strong metal-support interaction encapsulation mechanism. Notably, Co@BaAl 2 O 4 exhibits exceptional activity relative to previously reported core@shell catalysts, displaying excellent long-term stability during high-temperature chemical reactions and overcoming the durability and reusability limitations of conventional supported catalysts. This pioneering design and widely applicable approach has been validated to guide the encapsulation of various transition metal nanoparticles for environmental tolerance functionalities, offering great potential to advance energy, catalysis, and environmental fields.

Abstract:A simple method for the preparation of PdCo@Pd core-shell nanoparticles supported on carbon has been developed using an adsorbate-induced surface segregation effect. The stability and electrocatalytic activity for the oxygen reduction of PdCo@Pd nanoparticles was enhanced by a small amount of Pt, deposited via a spontaneous displacement reaction. The facile method described herein is suitable for large-scale lower cost production and significantly lowers the Pt loading and thus cost. The as-prepared PdCo@Pd and Pd-decorated PdCo@Pd nanocatalysts have higher methanol-tolerance for the ORR when compared to Pt/C, and are promising cathode catalysts for fuel cell applications.
Preparation of NiWO4/g-C3 N4 and its ultra-deep desulfurization properties in ionic liquid

Abstract:The NiWO4 nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrothermal method. The supported catalysts NiWO4/g-C3 N4 were prepared by a simple mixing-calcination method. XRD, FT-IR, EDS , SEM, BET and XPS were used to characterize the morphology and structure of NiWO4/g-C3 N4 . The prepared NiWO4/g-C3 N4 was used as catalyst, hydrogen peroxide as oxidant, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ionic liquid ( [ BMIM ] BF4 ) as extractant for oxidative desulfurization. The effects of catalyst loading, the amount of hydrogen peroxide, ionic liquid and catalyst, reaction temperature, reaction time, and different sulfur compounds on desulfurization efficiency were studied. The desulfurization rate can reach 97. 35% at the optimum reaction conditions:5 mL of model oil, 0. 2 mL of hydrogen peroxide, 1. 0 mL of [ BMIM] BF4 , 0. 03 g of NiWO4/g-C3 N4 , 80℃ of reaction temperature and 140 min of reaction time. The results showed that NiWO4/g-C3 N4 had good catalytic stability, and the catalytic activity was not significantly reduced after 5 repeated reactions.
