Abstract:Alkyl-substituted dibenzothiophenes such as 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene are a kind of typical refractory sulfur compound in fuel oil. Herein, three-dimensional ordered macro–mesoporous (3DOM) tungsten oxide catalysts were successfully prepared for aerobic oxidative desulfurization of 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene. The experimental results indicated that the as-prepared material 3DOM WO<i>x</i>-400 not only contained a hexagonal packed nanoporous structure but also abundant oxygen defects on its skeleton, exhibiting aerobic oxidative desulfurization of over 99% in 4 h. Moreover, sulfur removal could still reach 99% after recycling five times. Through free radical capture experiments, the superoxide radical is reasonably proposed in the mechanism. This work would provide a feasible route to develop highly efficient nanoporous materials for desulfurization of fuels. The Supporting Information is available free of charge at <a class="ext-link" href="/doi/10.1021/acsanm.0c02639?goto=supporting-info">https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acsanm.0c02639</a>.TGA profiles of the precursor with PMMA (A) and without PMMA (B) (Figure S1); FT-IR spectra of the precursor mixture at different calcination stages (Figure S2); SEM image of the PMMA sphere alloy as the template (Figure S3); macropore diameter distribution of 3DOM WO<i>x</i>-400 (Figure S4); Raman spectrum of commercial WO3 (Figure S5); XPS full-scan spectra of various samples (Figure S6); comparison on W 4f peaks of 3DOM WO<i>x</i>-400 and WO<i>x</i>-400 (Figure S7); W 4f core-level of 3DOM WO<i>x</i>-300 and 3DOM WO<i>x</i>-500 (Figure S8); EPR spectra of various samples (Figure S9); effect of the reaction temperature on sulfur removal in the desulfurization system (Figure S10); GC–MS analysis for the extractant of the catalyst phase after the reaction (Figure S11); SEM images of recycled 3DOM WO<i>x</i>-400 (Figure S12); FT-IR spectra of fresh and recycled 3DOM WO<i>x</i>-400 (Figure S13) (<a class="ext-link" href="/doi/suppl/10.1021/acsanm.0c02639/suppl_file/an0c02639_si_001.pdf">PDF</a>)This article has not yet been cited by other publications.
