Abstract:A simple, air-stable, inexpensive and easily prepared molecule, N-methyliminodiacetic acid (MIDA), is reported as a ligand for palladium-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of phenylboronic acid with aryl chlorides. The yield of the corresponding Suzuki coupling reaction is up to around 90% at both high temperature of 80 degrees C and room temperature under ambient atmosphere. Abstract:SuzukiMiyaura coupling of heteroaryls is an important method for the preparation of compound libraries for medicinal chemistry and materials research. Although many catalysts have been developed, none of them have been generally applicable to the coupling reactions of heteroaryl chlorides and tosylates at room temperature. We discovered that a catalyst combination of Pd(OAc)2 and XPhos (2-dicyclohexylphosphanyl-2',4',6'-triisopropylbiphenyl) could efficiently catalyze these couplings. Besides the choice of catalyst, the use of hydroxide bases in an aqueous alcoholic solvent was essential for fast couplings. These conditions promoted fast release of active catalyst (XPhos)Pd0, and accelerated the transmetalation in the catalytic cycle. Most of the major families of heteroaryl chlorides (31 examples) and tosylates (17 examples) reached full conversion within minutes to hours at room temperature. The method could be easily scaled up for gram-scale synthesis. Furthermore, we examined the relative reactivity of coupling partners in whole reactions. Electron-rich heteroaryl chlorides and tosylates reacted more slowly than electron-deficient ones, in the order of indole, pyrrole < furan, thiophene < pyridine and other six-membered-ring azines. For heteroarylboronic acids, the reactivity ranking was reversed: indole, pyrrole > furan, thiophene > pyridine. Similarly, electron-deficient arylboronic acids were less reactive than electron-neutral and electron-rich ones. The reactivity trends from this study can help to choose appropriate coupling partners for Suzuki reactions.

Abstract:The Suzuki-Miyaura coupling is among the most important C-C bond-forming reactions available due to its reliability, chemoselectivity, and diversity. Aryl halides and pseudohalides such as iodides, bromides, and triflates are traditionally used as the electrophilic coupling partner. The expansion of the reaction scope to nontraditional electrophiles is an ongoing challenge to enable an even greater number of useful products to be made from simple starting materials. Herein, we present how an NHC-based Pd catalyst can enable Suzuki-Miyaura coupling where the C(acyl)-O bond of aryl esters takes on the role of electrophile, allowing the synthesis of various ketone-containing products. This contrasts known reactions of similar esters that provide biaryls via nickel catalysis. The underlying cause of this mechanistic divergence is investigated by DFT calculations, and the robustness of esters compared to more electrophilic acylative coupling partners is analyzed.

Abstract:A new palladium catalysis system has been developed for the Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reactions of heteroaryl bromides in aqueous media. The method allows the preparation of a variety of heterobiaryls in good to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions without the use of phosphine ligands. Silica gel is found to be crucial to the successful performance of the reactions and the catalytic system can be reused eighteen times with high efficiency.

Abstract:The palladium catalyst supported on fluoride pillared layered double hydroxide(LDH-F) was prepared by the incipient wetness method,and it was used to catalyze the Heck and Suzuki coupling reactions of aryl bromides.The structure of the Pd/LDH-F catalyst and the leaching of Pd in the solution were characterized by(X-ray) diffraction and inductively coupled plasma.With a small palladium dosage(Pd/aryl bromide molar ratio of 0.001) and no ligand,Pd/LDH-F exhibits higher catalytic activity and selectivity than the catalysts supported on other carriers for the Heck reaction of aryl bromides with styrene.The Pd/LDH-F catalyst can be easily separated from the reaction mixture and reused four times without loss in activity.Under the conditions of Pd/aryl bromide molar ratio of 0.005,room temperature and 3 h,the Pd/LDH-F catalyst can catalyze the Suzuki reaction of bromobenzene with a product yield of 99%.

Abstract:A mild and efficient protocol for the phosphine-free Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction of aryl bromides with arylboronic acids has been developed which utilizes the commercially available 10% Pd/C (3.5 mol% Pd) in ethanol-water (1:1) and Na2CO3 at room temperature. The reaction is convenient, environmentally benign and generates excellent yields of the coupled products (94-100%). The catalyst can be recycled using simple filtration and washing sequences without significant decrease in the yield of coupling product up to the fourth run.

Abstract:Transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling of arenes bearing two or more potential coupling sites is often challenging because of the chemoselectivity issue. If orthogonal cross-couplings were applicable, one can develop a synthetically useful approach for consecutive functionalization of the starting arenes compounds. We herein reported a Suzuki-Miyaura coupling of triazenyl-substituted aryl bromides catalyzed by PdCl2(PCy3)2/PPh3 under basic conditions. The resultant polyfunctionalized aryl triazenes could undergo Suzuki-Miyaura couplings under acidic conditions or be converted to many other functionalized arenes. This orthogonal coupling strategy allows for a sequential functionalization of arenes with same type of nucleophilic reagents toward the synthesis of diverse biaryls and teraryls.

Abstract:A general and efficient palladium-catalyzed coupling of propargylic carbonates with organoboronic acids has been developed by identifying a commercially available semi-labile bidentated o-(diphenylphosphino) benzaldehyde as the effective ligand affording allenes under a set of very mild reaction conditions. Many functional groups are tolerated in this reaction, and high chirality transfer has also been realized in the presence of water leading to a very rapid reaction for the synthesis of easily racemized 1,3-diarylallenes. A rationale has been proposed to demonstrate the role of the ligand.

Abstract:The benzamide-derived P,O-ligands efficiently promoted the Pd-catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling reactions of aryl bromides with phenylboronic acid at 0.01 mol % of Pd loading at 60-80degreesC to form biaryls in excellent yields. Abstract:LB-Phos center dot HBF4 was used in the Suzuki coupling reaction of 2-bromoalken-3-ols with alkylboronic acids to give the coupling products in moderate to good yields. Substituents such as benzyl, phenyl, allyl, and alkyl are tolerated at the 1- and 3-positions of the 2-bromoalken-3-ols. The reactions of both primary and secondary alkylboronic acids proceed smoothly.

Abstract:The activation of C-Cl bond of (Z)-alpha-chloroalkylidene-beta-lactones and (E)-alpha-chloroalkylidene-beta-lactams via the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction is reported in this paper. Alkyl, heteroaromatic, substituted phenyl- and alkenylboronic acids can be coupled with a wide variety of alpha-chloroalkylidene-beta-lactones and beta-lactams in excellent yields within a short period of time. The cross-coupling reaction of optically active substrates leads to the optically active compounds without racemization of the corresponding chiral center.

Abstract:The capacity to employ unactivated alkyl electrophiles as coupling partners will markedly increase the already exceptional utility of metal-catalyzed cross-coupling processes. This communication describes the development of a method that achieves the first Suzuki reactions of unactivated secondary alkyl bromides and iodides. The ability to couple readily available, easy-to-handle boronic acids is an attractive feature of this catalyst system.

Abstract:The catalytic activity of [(Ph2P-o-C6H4)2N]PdCl in aerobic aqueous Suzuki couplings is described. Though hydrophobic, this molecular catalyst is competent in cross-coupling reactions of arylboronic acids with a variety of electronically activated, unactivated, and deactivated aryl iodides, bromides, and chlorides upon heating in aqueous solutions under aerobic conditions to give biphenyl derivatives without the necessity of amphiphiles even in the presence of an excess amount of mercury.
