Abstract:The catalyst-free Suzuki-type coupling reaction of sodium tetraphenylborate with iodanes was achieved in good yields in water at room temperature. Similarly, the coupling of sodium tetraphenylborate with iodonium salts easily occurred in acidic water medium at 50 degrees C in good yields. Abstract:Diarylborinic acids and difluoroborinates have been effectively used in simple phosphine/palladium catalyzed Suzuki coupling of N‐tosyl aryltriazenes under weak basic conditions for highly efficient, cost‐effective and operationally practical access to biaryls from anilines. Both solvents and water have proven to be crucial in achieving high catalytic efficiency. A highly efficient Suzuki coupling of N‐tosyl aryltriazenes with diarylborinic acids or potassium diaryldifluoroborinates is reported under weak basic conditions in aqueous DME or dioxane, respectively. The shelf‐stable and easy‐to‐stoichiometry diaryldifluoroborinates displayed reactivities comparable to the corresponding diarylborinic acids. Scope and limitations of the protocol have been investigated, showing large electronic and steric effects from aryltriazenes. Utility of potassium diaryldifluoroborinates in the Suzuki coupling with activated aryltriazenes provides a cost‐effective and operationally practical access to biaryls from anilines.

Abstract:<p>Heterogeneous homocoupling reactions of phenylboronic acids were greatly accelerated via Suzuki homocoupling reactions. In this work, a tandem route was designed which firstly one part of phenylboronic acids reacted with iodine to form iodobenzenes, then another part of phenylboronic acids coupled with iodobenzenes to produce biaryl compounds. The tandem reaction were catalyzed by a bifunctional heterogeneous catalyst of metal organic frameworks encapsulated with palladium nanoparticles (). This strategy for forming symmetric C-C bond between benzene rings has obvious advantages such as high efficiency, easy separation, good recyclability and no addition of toxic halogenated benzene.</p>

Abstract:The Suzuki-Miyaura coupling is among the most important C-C bond-forming reactions available due to its reliability, chemoselectivity, and diversity. Aryl halides and pseudohalides such as iodides, bromides, and triflates are traditionally used as the electrophilic coupling partner. The expansion of the reaction scope to nontraditional electrophiles is an ongoing challenge to enable an even greater number of useful products to be made from simple starting materials. Herein, we present how an NHC-based Pd catalyst can enable Suzuki-Miyaura coupling where the C(acyl)-O bond of aryl esters takes on the role of electrophile, allowing the synthesis of various ketone-containing products. This contrasts known reactions of similar esters that provide biaryls via nickel catalysis. The underlying cause of this mechanistic divergence is investigated by DFT calculations, and the robustness of esters compared to more electrophilic acylative coupling partners is analyzed.

Abstract:A Na2PdCl4-catalysed B-2(OH)(4)-mediated direct cross-coupling of two distinct aryl bromides in pure water is described. This one-step borylation/Suzuki method exhibits an outstanding cross-coupling selectivity and no tendency to produce homocoupling products, therefore leading to biaryls and heterobiaryls in moderate to good yields. Moreover, the reaction has high regio-selectivity and can be scaled-up. Using such a simple, economical and practical protocol, the unsymmetrical diarylation of 3,5-dibromopryidine is achieved.

Abstract:The catalytic activity of [(Ph2P-o-C6H4)2N]PdCl in aerobic aqueous Suzuki couplings is described. Though hydrophobic, this molecular catalyst is competent in cross-coupling reactions of arylboronic acids with a variety of electronically activated, unactivated, and deactivated aryl iodides, bromides, and chlorides upon heating in aqueous solutions under aerobic conditions to give biphenyl derivatives without the necessity of amphiphiles even in the presence of an excess amount of mercury.

Abstract:Suzuki–Miyaura coupling is a practical and attractive carbon−carbon bond formation reaction due to its high efficiency and wide functional group compatibility, but its industrial applications are limited because it is typically catalysed by expensive palladium-containing transition-metal complexes. Here we show a robust and chemoselective organocatalytic Suzuki−Miyaura-type coupling of aryl halides with arylboronic acids catalysed by amines. The utility and scope of this reaction were demonstrated by the synthesis of several commercially relevant small molecules and a selection of derivatives of pharmaceutical drugs. The coupling of aryl halides and arylboronic acids is generally performed by metal-catalysed Suzuki–Miyaura reactions while metal-free approaches remain elusive. Here an organocatalytic approach based on amine catalysts is introduced for the preparation of commercially relevant asymmetric biaryls.

Abstract:A highly efficient palladium acetate-catalyzed ligand-free Suzuki reaction in aqueous phase was developed in short reaction times (0.5-1 h) at 35 degrees C in air. The key for such a successful catalytic system was the use of a suitable amount of cosolvents in the aqueous phase. The method could be extended to the consecutive multi-Suzuki coupling, and polyaryls were prepared in a single one-pot step in high selectivity and excellent yield under mild reaction conditions (60 degrees C).

Abstract:The palladium-catalysed Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling (SMC) is currently the most commonly used reaction to construct carbon–carbon bonds in the pharmaceutical industry. Typical methods require the use of a base, which limits the substrate scope. To mitigate this shortcoming, substantial effort has been made to develop base-tolerant organoboron reagents, efficient catalysts and reaction conditions that do not require external bases. Still, many boronic acids cannot be used or must be independently protected, and many Lewis-basic functional groups poison the catalyst. Here we report a conceptually different SMC reaction that can proceed even under acidic conditions, with a broad substrate scope. Key to this advance is the formation of an acid-stable, palladium-based ion pair between the reaction partners that does not require base for subsequent productive transmetallation. Boronic acids that cannot be used directly in other SMC reactions, such as 2-pyridylboronic acid and boronic acids with strong Lewis bases, can now be used successfully.

Abstract:Baes-free Cu(II)-catalyzed coupling reaction of arylboronic acid and thiols was described. After optimization of reaction conditions, such as solvents, reaction temperatures, copper salts and ligands, the results show that some biarylsulfides were synthesized in good yields using 1,10-phenanthroline-Cu(OAc)2 center dot H2O as catalyst, DMSO/H2O (V : V=1 : 1) as solvent, under air atmosphere at 60 degrees C.

Abstract:SuzukiMiyaura coupling of heteroaryls is an important method for the preparation of compound libraries for medicinal chemistry and materials research. Although many catalysts have been developed, none of them have been generally applicable to the coupling reactions of heteroaryl chlorides and tosylates at room temperature. We discovered that a catalyst combination of Pd(OAc)2 and XPhos (2-dicyclohexylphosphanyl-2',4',6'-triisopropylbiphenyl) could efficiently catalyze these couplings. Besides the choice of catalyst, the use of hydroxide bases in an aqueous alcoholic solvent was essential for fast couplings. These conditions promoted fast release of active catalyst (XPhos)Pd0, and accelerated the transmetalation in the catalytic cycle. Most of the major families of heteroaryl chlorides (31 examples) and tosylates (17 examples) reached full conversion within minutes to hours at room temperature. The method could be easily scaled up for gram-scale synthesis. Furthermore, we examined the relative reactivity of coupling partners in whole reactions. Electron-rich heteroaryl chlorides and tosylates reacted more slowly than electron-deficient ones, in the order of indole, pyrrole < furan, thiophene < pyridine and other six-membered-ring azines. For heteroarylboronic acids, the reactivity ranking was reversed: indole, pyrrole > furan, thiophene > pyridine. Similarly, electron-deficient arylboronic acids were less reactive than electron-neutral and electron-rich ones. The reactivity trends from this study can help to choose appropriate coupling partners for Suzuki reactions.

Abstract:An efficient copper-catalyzed method has been developed for Sonogashira couplings of aryl halides with terminal alkynes in water. The protocol uses inexpensive CuBr as the catalyst, 1,10-phenanthroline as the ligand, tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) as the phase-transfer catalyst, environmentally friendly water as the solvent, and various internal alkynes were synthesized in good to excellent yields.

Abstract:Unprecedented palladium-catalyzed denitrogenative Suzuki and carbonylative Suzuki coupling reactions of benzotriazoles with boronic acids have been realized, which afforded structurally diverse ortho-amino-substituted biaryl and biaryl ketone derivatives. The key to this success is due to the development of a rationally designed strategy to achieve the ring opening of benzotriazoles with a synergistic activating-stabilizing effect, which enables the in situ generation of the corresponding ortho-amino-arenediazonium species. The present work opens up a new avenue to utilize benzotriazoles as synthetic equivalents of ortho-amino-arenediazoniums, which otherwise could not be directly accessed by existing synthetic methods.

Abstract:A mild and efficient protocol for the phosphine-free Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction of aryl bromides with arylboronic acids has been developed which utilizes the commercially available 10% Pd/C (3.5 mol% Pd) in ethanol-water (1:1) and Na2CO3 at room temperature. The reaction is convenient, environmentally benign and generates excellent yields of the coupled products (94-100%). The catalyst can be recycled using simple filtration and washing sequences without significant decrease in the yield of coupling product up to the fourth run.
