Abstract:Nanotechnology has received a considerable amount of attention from various fields and has become a multidisciplinary subject, where several research ventures have taken place in recent years. This field is expected to affect every sector of our economy and daily life in the near future. Besides advances in physics, chemistry, biology, and other science-based technologies, the use of statistical methods has also helped the rapid development of nanotechnology in terms of data collection, treatment-effect estimation, hypothesis testing, and quality control. This paper reviews some instances where statistical methods have been used in nanoscale applications. Topics include experimental design, uncertainty modeling, process optimization and monitoring, and areas for future research efforts.

Abstract:The variation in manufacturing process is the source of poor quality, less output and high scrap cost in Integrated Microelectronic Device manufacturing. Some issues caused by variation have been talked in previous reports, however, the effective prevention mechanism in manufacturing process is seldom mentioned. In this paper the Statistical Prevention Mechanism by system level is proposed to set up from the perspective of quality management. The statistical techniques including Measurement System Analysis and Statistical Process Control are utilized in Statistical Prevention Mechanism. The Statistical Prevention Mechanism works as process control system with real-time data to reduce variation and achieve 4.637% improvement on pass rate, which demonstrates the Statistical Prevention Mechanism is effective and efficient process control system with superiority of average 98.727% pass rate to achieve sufficient process capability and process stability compared to previous publications.

Abstract:For the polymer production industries,the competitive edge will come from the technology that excels in controlling the polymer quality in a consistent way over the entire plant.The state of the art quality control systems of polymer production plant is reviewed,with the main focus on on–line soft–sensing and optimal grade transition control problems.It is proposed that the most important factor in developing an intelligent quality control system is quality modeling and implementing plant–wide quality estimation and control is beneficial.Finally,some open problems and potential development trends of the field are pointed out.

Abstract:There are many situations in quality control of manufacturing processes in which the quality of a process is characterized by the spatial distribution of certain particles in the product, and the more uniform the particle distribution is, the better the quality is. To realize quality control and guide process improvement efforts, the degree of spatial uniformity of particle distributions needs to be assessed. On the other hand, many quantitative metrics have been developed in areas outside manufacturing for measuring uniformity of point patterns, which can be applied for this purpose. However, critical issues exist in applying existing metrics for quality control relating to which metrics to choose and how to use them in specific situations. To provide general guidelines on these issues, this research identifies popular uniformity metrics scattered in different areas and compares their performance in detecting nonuniform particle distributions under various practical scenarios through a comprehensive numerical study. Effects of different factors on the performance of the metrics are revealed and the best metric is found. The use and effectiveness of the selected metric is also demonstrated in a case study where it is applied to data from emerging material fabrication processes in nanomanufacturing and biomanufacturing.

Abstract:Quality control methods and techniques have been investigated in different fields of manufacturing during the last decades. The introduction of robots in manufacturing processes has created a rapid deployment of robotic applications, leading to an increased research interest in the aspect of quality control in such industrial environments. This paper summarizes and presents a review of recent research and progress on quality control technologies, focusing on robot-based production systems. The role of different parameters affecting the control of quality in robotic tasks is also discussed, incorporating the impact of operator support systems in human robot collaborative environments. Research gaps and implications of quality control in robotic applications are also described, and a future outlook of research in the particular field is provided.

An engineering-statistical model for synthesis process of nanomaterials

Abstract:Nanomaterials possess many desirable qualities, which make them play a central role in the field of material. However, due to the limited understanding of synthesis mechanism and large variation of the synthesis process, the synthesis process of nanomaterials is very complicated and extremely sensitive to many factors, even a minor change in any of these factors may lead to totally different growth direction. So there are not any efficient methods available for quality control of the synthesis process till now. First of all, this paper presents a short review of some efforts to address the problem that nanomaterials possessing well-defined properties cannot be produced in large quantities with a cost-effective technique. Then we divide the existing approaches into two categories, which are physical approach and statistical approach respectively. On one hand, the predictive capability of physical model is limited by its assumptions. On the other hand, statistical model has its own drawbacks, such as outlier and over-fitting. Such problems probably lead to conclusions against physical laws, especially when statistical model is used for extrapolation. So it is believed that integrating these models to establish an engineering-statistical model has the potential to overcome the drawbacks of both two models. Then the sequential model building strategy is introduced to construct engineering-statistical model mentioned above. A case study of density control of nanowires is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of our modeling strategy for controlled-growth of nanomaterials.

Abstract:Purpose This study aims to investigate issues of quality and quality control (QC) in three-dimensional (3D) printing by reviewing past work and current practices. Possible future developments are also discussed. Design/methodology/approach After a discussion of the major quality dimensions of 3D-printed objects, the applications of some QC techniques at various stages of the product life cycle (including product design, process planning, incoming QC, in-process QC and outgoing QC) are introduced. Findings The application of QC techniques to 3D printing is not uncommon. Some techniques (e.g. cause-and-effect analysis) have been applied extensively; others, such as design of experiments, have not been used accurately and completely and therefore cannot optimize quality. Taguchi’s method and control charts can enhance the quality of 3D-printed objects; however, these techniques require repetitive experimentation, which may not fit the work flow of 3D printing. Originality/value Because quality issues may discourage customers from buying 3D-printed products, enhancing 3D printing quality is imperative. In addition, 3D printing can be used to manufacture diverse products with a reduced investment in machines, tools, assembly and materials. Production economics issues can be addressed by successfully implementing QC.

Abstract:This paper examines the integration of advanced computer vision (CV) techniques and Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms to improve quality control (QC) for nano-scale manufacturing processes in the space industry. As nanotechnology is regularly used in the space industry for manufacturing electromechanical components such as NEMS (Nanoelectromechanical Systems), solar panels, and energy storage devices, it's becoming increasingly important to detect defects or imperfections in one of those systems to prevent the loss of life and a costly catastrophe. In order to help mediate this issue, this paper will discuss the methods and processes that can be implemented to capture and analyze nano-scale images and data in order to detect possible flaws in the components.

Abstract:This study aims to identify the fundamental contributions on applications of statistical methods in the area of quality and process control, determining lines of research and statistical methods forming the dominant intellectual structure, evolution over time and identifying future tendencies and relationships between the most relevant themes. A quantitative approach linked to bibliometric analysis was used, based on research made in the Thomson/Reuters-ISI online database. Among the main results, it stands out that the importance of statistical applications applied to process and quality control continues to grow. The contributions with greatest impact are related to principal component analysis and multivariate analysis as well as in the area of clinical assessment. Besides multivariate analysis, the dominant techniques are control charts, use of data-mining tools and autocorrelation/time series.

Abstract:Proved by engineering practice,invalidation of process can not be forecasted by engineering process control,and optimal manufacturing quality in the process can not be guaranteed.The features of STA,SPC and EPC were outlined during the manufacturing quality control,a process control system which integrated STA,EPC and SPC was put forward.The informational system interface technique,the intelligent integration technique and the harmonious control technique were studied.The integrated technique and the quality guaranteed technique were analyzed through a specific manufacturing process example.The results show that the application of this technique guarantees not only the need of individual parameter,but also the distribution regulation of the group of a same parameter.The quality of manufacturing process can be markedly improved.

Abstract:Quality control is one of the tasks involved in the industry that needs reform in the technological field by the use of machine learning. As an emerging field, machine learning can provide a suitable solution for fast and reliable information for quality determination through the use of various algorithms such as neural networks. Abstract:Digital control and information security technologies are used in modern technological processes. Integrated control tools designed to make correct decisions based on the electronic models should be used in the development of technological systems. The problems of interface quality assurance are due to complex metrics measurement and analysis processes. An increase in the number and duration of management time delays and mismanagement of large volumes of data increase the number of errors and test time and deteriorate the productivity of software tools used for determining the applicability of quality metrics. The article describes the process of improvement of technological parameters and characteristics by improving the Deming PDCA quality management cycle and software interfaces. It describes the role of risk accounting in the elimination of inconsistencies in the systems and processes.

Abstract:Literature Review articles from a collection of various research journals using the Taguchi method in quality development taken from Scopus data of 2,000 documents data from 2000 to 2022. Scopus is an index of scientific literature to provide accurate information about the metadata of each scientific article individually, including publication data, abstracts, references, etc. Using this Scopus data can provide a broad overview of the use of the Taguchi method for quality development in all fields in detail. With this software, data analysis can be generated using the Taguchi method in any field. As well as in engineering as much as 32.2% (14,513), in materials science as much as 18.4% (8,272), others 10.3% with Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology (818), Decision Sciences (788), Agricultural and Biological Sciences ( 571), Earth and Planetary Sciences (501), Multidisciplinary (431), Medicine (400), Social Sciences (348), Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceutics (297), Immunology and Microbiology (235), Economics, Econometrics and Finance (105 ). Meanwhile, countries with documents regarding the Taguchi method are India with 8,307 copies, Taiwan with 2,511 records, and Iran with 2,351 papers. As for the country, the least in Japan, which is 492 documents. From the results of this analysis, it can conclude that the Taguchi method plays a significant role and is needed in any research for quality development in many countries, especially in the engineering/manufacture field.

Abstract:Purpose - Only limited attention has been paid to the issue of Measurement Data Quality (MDQ) in a metrology context. To address this critique of the literature a methodology to assure MDQ was proposed. Methodology - The study proposes a methodology which consists of four steps can be used to 1 identify the importance of a measurement (identification), 2 determine accuracy and precision (determination), 3 evaluate the criticality of the measurement to its impact on the final result (evaluation) and 4 record the facts that influenced the decision making process (documentation). Findings -When followed and properly documented, these four steps can help ensure our measurements are valid and worthwhile. Identifying the important measurements that are made, determining the level of accuracy required and then using the proper tools to make the measurements will yield valid, useful results.

Abstract:A systematic quality control approach for monitoring the production of infusion solutions in a pharmaceutical plant is introduced. The main features of approach are combining modern quality control technologies with quality information system. Based on the strict quality requirements and the process flow of the production of infusion solutions, a serial suitable statistical quality control methods are selected and discussed. Thee are eight points relevant to the quality of production of infusion solutions, i.e., water processing, bottle preparing, production order, concentrated solution, diluted solution, sterilizing, lamp-inspection and packing. The control information related to them is summarized. According to practical conditions and different concrete quality objects, systematic consideration for process monitoring and quality data obtaining are analyzed. Based on a quality information system, the related control information can be accurately controlled in all aspects in order to establish a strict quality control and assurance system. A case study using several quality control tools are introduced and analyzed.
