Analysis on the Awareness Rate of AIDS Knowledge and Its in Fluencing Factors in a Medical College in Shaanxi

Abstract:Objective To understand the situation and its influencing factors of AIDS knowledge awareness among college students in a medical college in Shaanxi,and provide scientific basis for the further development of AIDS health education.Methods Nine hundred and eighty-five students were selected by simple random sampling in a medical college to fill the self-administered questionnaire about the students' demographic information,AIDS-related knowledge and attitude towards AIDS.The chi square test and non-conditional logistic regression were used to analyze the influencing factors,the Spearman correlation analysis was used to analyze cognition and attitude towards HIV/AIDS.Results A total of 985 people were investigated,932 effective questionnaires were recovered,the response rate was 94.62％.The overall awareness rate of AIDS-related knowledge was 57.71％ among the college students in a medical college in Shaanxi.Logistic regression analysis shows that there are 3 factors associated with the awareness rate of AIDS knowledge,that is professional categories (OR =2.241,95％ CI =1.642 ～ 3.059),grade (OR =2.115,95％ CI =2.115 ～ 3.245),place of origin (OR =1.444,95％ CI =1.444 ～ 1.937).Only 37.91％ students could allow HIV patients to continue working,55.27％ students were willing to associate with the infected family and friends.Spearman correlation analysis showed that there was a negative correlation with discrimination score of AIDS and AIDS-related knowledge score (r =-0.148,P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion Shaanxi medical students comprehensive AIDS prevention knowledge awareness rate was low,medicine,high grade,the urban students is higher awareness rate of protective factors,low awareness rate leads to students on HIV infection or AIDS discrimination.
