Abstract:Objective To observe the relationship between bone mineral density(BMD) and central pulse pressure(CPP)in postmenopausal women. Methods One hundred and fifty five postmenopausal women aged 46-83 years old were included in this study. The levels of BMD in the lumbar spine(L1-L4) and the right femoral neck were determined in all patients with dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry(GE Lunar Co).Their brachial blood pressure was measured by mercury sphygmomanometer and the central arterial blood pressure was measured by 5F JR catheter. The levels of serum lipid(total cholesterol, triglyceride cholesterol,high-density-lipoprotein-cholesterol,low-density-lipoprotein-cholesterol),serum creatinine and fasting-plasma-sugar(FBG) were measured with Japanese automatic biochemistry analyzer. All data were analysed with SPSS software and multiple stepwise regression analysis. Results 1.Pearson's correlation analysis showed that CPP was significantly related to age,FBG,heart rate,BMD in femoral neck and serum creatinine.2.The multiple factors stepwise regression analysis showed that the regression of CPP only with age, heart rate and BMD in the femoral neck was of great significance. Conclusions This study indicated that loss of bone mineral density in the femoral neck was an independent risk factor for CPP increase in postmenopausal women.
