Abstract:Orthotropic steel decks are widely used in the construction of steel bridges. Although there are many fatigue-evaluation methods stipulated by codes, unexpected fatigue cracks are still detected in some bridges. To justify whether the local finite element model commonly used in fatigue investigations on orthotropic decks can correctly instruct engineering practices, the Arlequin framework is applied in this paper to determine the full fatigue stress under traffic loads. The convergence on and validity of this application for orthotropic decks are checked. Results show that the Arlequin model for deck-fatigue analysis established in this paper tends to be an efficient method for complete fatigue stress acquisition, whereby the vulnerable sites of orthotropic steel decks under traffic loads are defined. Vehicles near the flexible components, such as hangers or cables, can have adverse effects on the fatigue durability of decks. Additionally, the total number of vehicles and their arrangement concentration also affect fatigue performance. Complex traffic conditions cannot be fully loaded in local models. Regardless of the gross bridge mechanics and deck deformation, the fatigue stress range is underestimated by about 30-40%. Such a difference in fatigue assessment seems to explain the premature cracks observed in orthotropic steel decks.

Abstract:Under the combined action of sea current and wave force in the suspended section of submarine pipelines, the stress state changes greatly, and fatigue failure is very prone to occur. Based on actual data, this paper establishes a simulation model of the suspended section undersea conditions to explore the stress and fatigue effects of the suspended section. Mainly use the finite element software ANSYS WORKBENCH. The actual engineering is used as the research background to establish a three-dimensional nonlinear finite element model of the interaction between the submarine pipeline and the soil. Under different working conditions, carry out suspended section and stress analysis. Discuss the impact of different factors on the life of subsea pipelines. The emphasis is on the study of whether the vortex-induced resonance effect occurs in the suspended section and the fatigue damage analysis of the submarine pipeline through the two-way fluid-solid coupling. Finally, through data analysis, the stress state and fatigue of the submarine pipeline can be obtained.

Abstract:In this paper,we established a finite element analysis system of gantry crane and finished many problems under complete control of parameters of crane such as overall layout,load calculation and combination loading,stability and fatigue calculation,etc.The system can give an evaluation to the result,it can also create and save product information automatically with the database.It bases on the analysis of CAD/CAE information of gantry crane design.The CAE information model which is created by the system provides the basis of data sharing.

Abstract:Through FEA on the composite structure of reinforced concrete and steel scuttle,seeking destruction reasons by referring to practical destruction features,a beneficial conclusion for this type of structure design is proposed.Compare between two analysis results obtained respectively from two different FEA softwares is conducted.In addition,how to model and analyze accurately but concisely is discussed.Some suggestions with reference value for FEA are presented by comparing several different modeling methods.

Fatigue Analysis on Key Components of Semi-Submersible Platform

Abstract:Fatigue damage is one of the main reasons of the failure of Semi-Submersible platform. As the complex of random loading, it is difficult to analyze fatigue life accurately and determine the sensitivity of parameters. In this paper, the fatigue life on key-components of semi-submersible platform is analyzed with Spectral-based analysis method. Firstly, the stress responses of whole model platform under the random wave loads are calculated. The calculation results of whole model platform for cut-boundary interpolation are used in local model to calculate the key-component stress responses of local model. Generating the fatigue stress energy spectrum by scaling the wave energy spectrum and the complex fatigue stress transfer function in detail local model is described next. The stress response of short-term sea-state is assumed to obey Rayleigh distribution, and the spectral moments are calculated. Finally, the fatigue life of key components is analyzed according to S-N curve and Palmgren-Miner's rule. The results show that the fatigue life of the connection meets the specification requirements,and the key components are the fatigue sensitive areas of semi-submersible platform.

Abstract:The service safety problem of steel crane beams in metallurgical industrial buildings has been attracting increasing attention recently. The fatigue failure problem of the steel crane beam with variable-section supports becomes particularly severe. Therefore, the present study focuses on exploring the reason for such fatigue failure in terms of the design method, actual service load, and reliability of existing structural components of the steel crane beams. First, the study clarifies the “Z class” of various variable-section supports based on fracture mechanics theory to design fatigue strength parameters for steel crane beams. Then, it explores the indeterminant design parameters of fatigue load through numerous load tests and analyses, discussing the applicability of current approaches on selecting appropriate parameters. At last, this paper carries out a statistical analysis of fatigue reliability of existing steel crane beams with variable-section supports. This study concludes the main reasons for frequent fatigue failures of steel crane beams with variable-section supports, which provides a basis for solving such fatigue failure problems in practice.

Abstract:Abstract This paper proposes to combine multi-body dynamics and finite element method to study the fatigue strength and fatigue life of the bogie frame from the perspective of taking the vehicle as a whole. The analysis model established by the multi-body dynamics simulation software SIMPACK, the dangerous positions are determined from FEA software ANSYS, Based on the load-time history and Miner cumulative damage theory, the fatigue strength prediction is carried out using n-soft software, the study shows that the time-load history of each key position obtained by simulating working conditions can predict the life of components more accurately, this method can be applied to the initial stage of product design.
Hot Spot Stress Approach For Fatigue Life Assessment In Welded Bridge Connections Using Monitoring Data And Fem Analysis

Abstract:This paper presents a study of using long-term monitoring data and the hot spot stress approach for fatigue life assessment of a suspension steel bridge installed with a long-term structural health monitoring (SHM) system. First, a global finite element model (FEM) of the bridge and a local FEM for typical welded connections are developed using the general-purpose commercial software ABAQUS. Hot spot stresses and stress concentration factors (SCFs) at failure-critical locations are calculated by means of the surface extrapolation technique with FEM analysis. Then the hot spot stress approach is applied to evaluate the fatigue life of welded details by using the strain measurement data from the long-term monitoring system. The fatigue assessment results obtained by the hot spot stress approach are also compared with those obtained by the nominal stress approach.

Abstract:The static analysis and the modal analysis of a tower crane’s whole structure were completed with finite element analysis(FEA)software ANSYS.Meanwhile,the modeling methods,skills and noticed problems were discussed.Based on the results of static analysis which were validated by the experimental results,structure’s distribution of stress was obtained.Combining with the condition of the tower crane,the first six mode frequencies and mode shapes were analyzed.

Abstract:In order to insure the safe and reliable service of tension leg platform(TLP) in deepwater,the present study is focused on the fatigue reliability analyses on key parts of TLP.Firstly,the global finite element model of TLP was built.In connection with wave scatter diagram of South China Sea,sea states and loads calculation were described.Then the S-N curve approach and fracture mechanics(F-M) approach were applied to study the fatigue reliability of TLP,and the stress responses of the platform under different sea states were analyzed to determine the fatigue key parts.A middle local model and a fine refined model were built.Finally,the fatigue reliability analyses on key parts of TLP were made by using the sub-model technology and two approaches.The results show that the fatigue reliability indices of the upper joints of column and pontoon are lower than others,which can satisfy service requirements.The results are reasonable and can act as a reference for the safety assessment of TLP during service.The fatigue reliability indices values obtained from F-M approach are close to the values from S-N curve approach,and the minimum fatigue reliability indices values obtained from the two approaches appear at the same part.

Abstract:With ANSYS finite element analysis software, finite element method was used to analyze the flexible Ferris wheel in this paper. By obtaining stress and deformation of the structure strength and stiffness was calculated and assessed. Improvements were made on this basis to meet the design requirements. With stability and dynamic analysis structure has good global stability and the frequency spectrum of structure is dense and even distribution. The analysis procedure and results indicated in this paper can be used as a reference for the analysis and design of similar projects.

Abstract:Fatigue limit load is one of the most important and concerned factors in designing and manufacturing critical mechanical parts such as the crankshafts. Usually, this governing parameter is obtained by experiment, which is expensive, time-consuming and only feasible in analyzing the case of simple structure. Still, there's a big obstacle to clear to get the fatigue limit load of a sophisticated structure effectively and efficiently. Based on the theory of multi-axial fatigue and critical distance, this paper first analyzes the stress state of the crankshaft under a bending moment by a coordinate transform method. Then, suitable fatigue criterions and stress distribution are chosen to determine the fatigue limit value. Also, the experiment is conducted to verify the prediction result. As the simulation results through the critical line method show a better consistency with the experiment data, the effectiveness of the critical line method make it more recommendable to be put into engineering practice than the critical point method in predicting the fatigue limit. The conclusion in this paper may enlighten the understanding of the fracture behavior of a complex structure and provide a valuable reference for fatigue limit prediction in engineering application.

Abstract:Abstract Present regulation and norms for securing equipment are calculated based on static strength analysis ignore the dynamic situations faced by containers during maritime transportation, and the event of container loss still occurs. This research aim to investigate the dynamic behavior of container stack under typical motion excitations simulating real ocean conditions. A two-tier scaled model of a 20-ft ISO freight container were built based on scaling law. The research process is divided into three stages. The first stage: establish a full-scale 20-ft container mode, and obtain characteristic information such as mass and stiffness through finite element analysis. In the second stage, the multi-objective optimization algorithm is used to establish the scale model of the container, and the scale model of the design is verified. In the third stage, the finite element method is used to further understand the influence of each design variables on the dynamic response of container stack. Under different motion excitations, the influence of each basic variables on the structural response and the load change on the critical points of the structure are determined. Meanwhile, the results of this study also show that the mathematical model constructed is effective and can reasonably predict the actual situation of container stacks stored on the ship’s deck.

Abstract:A 3D finite element model of the structure of a container ship was established to carry out the dynamic analysis for the structure.The Lanczos' method was used to analyze the dynamic characteristics of the structure,and the modal synthesis method was used to analyze its dynamic responses.The numerical results showed that the container ship has low natural frequency reserve of torsional vibration,so the design of the lateral structures of the driving deck needs to be revised,although the vibration severity is acceptable as a whole.

Abstract:Abstract In order to ensure the safety and stability of the tower crane in operation, the static and dynamic characteristics of the QTZ100 tower crane in typical working conditions are analyzed by the finite element method, so as to verify the safety of its use and put forward targeted suggestions for the optimization of cranes. The results show that the equivalent stress is less than the ultimate design stress of the tower crane, and there is stress concentration in the plate connected between the upper turntable and the lifting arm. The frequency of the fully loaded motor is far from the normal operating frequency of the tower. The horizontal root displacement of the lifting arm corresponding to the peak displacement response is relatively large. The buckling factor of the tower crane is higher than the empirical value. Therefore, to meet the strength and stability requirements of the tower crane, the connection between the upper turntable and the lifting arm should be strengthened. The motor will not resonate with the tower crane when it is fully loaded, and the dynamic rigidity is poor when it works at the frequency corresponding to the peak value. The buckling factor is higher, so the stability is better.

Abstract:The orthotropic steel deck is more and more widely used in bridges. But with the economic development, fatigue cracks in orthotropic steel bridge decks occur with the increasing of traffic volume. The sandwich plates method for strengthening fatigue cracks in orthotropic steel bridge decks is a relatively new method for bridge strengthening. This paper gives a brief introduction of the sandwich plates method and its application. Using finite element software ANSYS and ABAQUS, several kinds of elements were compared to obtain a reasonable and economical finite element model, which is suitable for simulating the sandwich plates. Vehicle load was applied according to General Code for Design of Highway Bridges and Culverts. The sandwich plates method was proved effective through the analysis of non-strengthened and strengthened orthotropic steel bridge decks. The stresses of the steel bridge decks were greatly reduced due to the sandwich plates strengthening method. In addition, parametric analysis of the elastic modulus of the middle layer was carried out, and the results indicted its effects on orthotropic decks' bearing behavior. Finally, a reasonable method for strengthening fatigue cracks in orthotropic steel bridge decks was put forward, so as to guide experimental research, as well as engineering design and practical operations of strengthening steel bridges.

Abstract:ANSYS software was used to establish the solid model of the steel structure of a semi-mobile crusher station,and the finite element mechanical model was completed in accordance with its loading conditions and material properties.Theoretical analysis and calculation of the steel structure in two different conditions were carried out,and four-order modal analysis was conducted also.The study results provided reliable theoretical references for design of the semi-mobile crusher station,so as to improve the design soundness and quality as well as the safety of equipments.

Abstract:Fatigue problems about large sized structure components ,such as bridge crane girder , has always been the bottleneck of mechanical products lightweight, reliability, security. In order to study fatigue problem about crane girder in the actual conditions, the dangerous spot of the girder is identified by using the finite element method to analyze structural stress. By simplified model , set up to reflect the main beam welding details of the characteristics of the small size of the process welding fatigue specimen model, and carried out a series of fatigue life test. Specimen fatigue test results quantitative descript the actual fatigue life of the bridge crane girder welded structures. By data fitting, the S-N curve equation of the bridge crane girder include the specific materials, the stress ratio, the welding process and special structure is obtained. It provides a scientific basis and practical methods to solve weld fatigue life design and the remaining life prediction about the crane girder.
