Abstract:Fault diagnosis of the roller overrunning clutches is a difficult problem home and abroad. A new method of vibration diagnosis for the clutches is presented. The wavelet algorithm based on Gaussian function has been used to separate fault signals, and impact frequency has been analyzed. Experimental results have shown the effectiveness of the method.

Abstract:The brush and slip ring system is an important part of excitation system in doubly-fed induction generators, but the excitation instability caused by the surface damage of slip ring often occurs, which brings a great security trouble to the stable operation in the generator. To solve this problem, the method that the vibration signal is used to carry out diagnosis of slip ring surface in different fault states was proposed. First, the principle based on vibration, the transmission route and failure mechanism of the slip ring were analysed. Then, the experiment platform of the brush and slip ring was set up; the real-time vibration signal was collected before and after fault; the wavelet energy spectrum was applied to the vibration signal processing. The abnormal vibration band was found by the contrast and proportion analysis of the wavelet energy spectrum distribution of vibration signals before and after fault, which can be the basis for fault diagnosis of the slip ring device.

Abstract:Based on primary theory of wavelet packet transformation, the signal of rolling bearing fault was processed, The signal characteristic can be effective withdrawn from the actual signal after wavelet packet decomposition and restructuring, Then, using Fourier transform, it presents an approach to get the frequency of fault signal. The experimental result proves that, the wavelet packet analysis can adaptively choose the related frequency band according to the analyzed signal characteristic. The practice example shows that this method is effective. The research results provide the theoretical foundation for rotary machine fault diagnosis, and have important practical value.

Abstract:Rolling bearing is an important part of mechanical equipment. Timely detection of rolling bearing fault is one of the important factors to ensure the safe operation of equipment. In order to diagnose rolling bearing fault accurately, a novel rolling bearing fault diagnosis method based on adaptive feature selection and clustering is proposed. Firstly, the vibration signal obtained from rolling bearing is decomposed by ensemble empirical mode decomposition(EEMD) to extract as much important information as possible. Feature extraction is performed for each intrinsic mode function(IMF) component and the original signal, and finally 240 features are obtained. And the Chi-square Test algorithm, Variance-Relief-F algorithm, and hierarchical clustering algorithm are used to filter all the features in layers to obtain the optimal features. Then the optimal features are input into fuzzy c-means(FCM) clustering to complete fault diagnosis. After the fault diagnosis analysis of four groups of vibration signal data, it is found that whether the characteristic number parameters are set based on engineering experience or adaptive feature selection, good fault diagnosis results are obtained. Furthermore, through comparative experiments, the fault diagnosis effect of the method based on adaptive parameter setting is better. The results indicate that the proposed adaptive parameter fault diagnosis method is feasible and effective for rolling bearing fault diagnosis.

Abstract:In order to supply a gap of current resonance vibration and STFT demodulation method applied to rolling bearing fault feature extraction of city rail vehicle, a fault diagnosis method for rolling bearing is presented, which is based on the integration of improved wavelet packet, frequency energy analysis and Hilbert marginal spectrum. When faults occur in rolling bearing, the energy of the rolling bearing vibration signal would change correspondingly, while the Hilbert energy spectrum can exactly provide the energy distribution of the signal in certain frequency with the change of the time and frequency. Thus, the fault information of the rolling bearing can be extracted effectively from the improved wavelet packet and Hilbert energy spectrum. The experimental result proves that the fault characteristic extracted by improved wavelet packet and Hilbert transform is in accord with the one analyzed from theory, and the fault feature extraction method is effective. The research results provide the theoretical foundation for the extraction of fault feature in rotary machine and have important practical value.

Abstract:For the hassle that the fault of the rolling bearing is challenging to identify, a method for identifying the damage degree of rolling bearing based on the combination of Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) and Gath-Geva (GG) fuzzy clustering is proposed. The method decomposes the known rolling bearing fault signal by VMD, determines the number of decomposed modes based on the magnitude of the component frequency center, and forms the obtained eigenmode components into an initial eigenmatrix for singular value decomposition. The three largest singular values are selected as the input of the GG clustering algorithm, and the membership matrix and cluster center of the known fault signals are obtained. The damage degree of the rolling bearing is identified by the Hamming closeness between the initial membership matrix of the signal to be measured and the cluster centers with clear fault signal. Rolling bearings vibration data verify the effectiveness of the method. The experimental results show that the method in this paper can accurately extract the fault information contained in the vibration signal, realize the correct fault type identification, and provide a reliable basis for the rolling bearing fault diagnosis method.

Abstract:To identify fault types with a small amount of unlabeled fault data of rotating machinery, an intelligent fault diagnosis algorithm based on the potential energy feature and adaptive transfer affinity propagation clustering was proposed in this work. The algorithm can extract potential energy features from the intrinsic mode functions of a vibration signal using complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise. An adaptive transfer judgment model is established from the source domain data after sensitive features extraction and self-weight analysis. The model can adjust the parameters according to the different target domains with unlabeled data. The effectiveness of the proposed intelligent fault diagnosis for roller bearings has been verified on different test-rigs, compared with the traditional classification techniques.

Abstract:At present, the degree of industrialization in China is deepening, and various types of production equipment appear. However, during the startup and operation of mechanical equipment, fracture and wear will occur due to various factors. Therefore, once the mechanical equipment fails, it must be diagnosed as soon as possible to avoid serious economic losses and casualties. Rotating machinery is an important power device, so it is necessary to regularly detect and monitor equipment signals to avoid the consequences of wrong control methods. In this study, the fault diagnosis of rotating machine based on adaptive vibration signal processing is studied under the safe environmental conditions. The fault diagnosis process of rotating machinery is to first collect vibration signals, then process signal noise reduction, and then extract fault characteristic signals to further identify and classify fault status and diagnose fault degree. This study briefly introduces several rotating machinery vibration signal processing methods and identifies the fault state of the rotating machine based on the high-order cumulant. By building a DDS fault diagnosis test bench, the chaotic particle swarm parameter optimization algorithm is used to calculate the accurate stochastic resonance parameters. After noise processing, the high-frequency part is significantly reduced. The results show that, after stochastic resonance wavelet decomposition and denoising processing, the number of intrinsic functions can be significantly reduced, the fault frequency can be increased, the high-frequency noise can be reduced, and the fault analysis accuracy can be improved. We identify the fault state of rotating machinery based on the high-order cumulant, train the four states of the bearing, and compare the four types of faults, no fault, inner ring fault, rolling element fault, and outer ring fault through the comparison of the actual test set and the predicted test set. It is concluded that the rotating machinery fault belongs to the rolling element fault and the identification accuracy rate is 95%. Finally, based on the LMD morphological filtering, the rotating machinery fault diagnosis is carried out, and the feature extraction is carried out based on the LMD algorithm to decompose the bearing fault signal. Finally, the result after the morphological filtering and LMD decomposition and extraction can avoid noise interference.

Abstract:Traditional diagnostic methods often have insufficient accuracy and noise reduction, which leads to diagnostic errors. To 3 address these issues, this paper proposes an advanced fault diagnosis model that combines the variational mode decomposition 4 (VMD) improved by a Variable-Objective Search Whale Optimization Algorithm (VSWOA) with a Pelican Optimization 5 (PO)-boosted Kernel Extreme Learning Machine (KELM) algorithm. The application of the method is shown here in the fault 6 diagnosis of rolling bearings. The proposed VSWOA enhances the performance of VMD by incorporating a Sobol sequence, 7 nonlinear time-varying factors, a multi-objective initial search strategy, and an elite Cauchy chaos mutation strategy, significantly 8 improving noise reduction in vibration signals. Abstract:Condition diagnosis of roller bearings depends largely on the feature analysis of vibration signals. Spectrum statistics filter (SSF) method could adaptively reduce the noise. This method is based on hypothesis testing in the frequency domain to eliminate the identical component between the reference signal and the primary signal. This paper presents a statistical parameter namely similarity factor to evaluate the filtering performance. The performance of the method is compared with the classical method, band pass filter (BPF). Results show that statistics filter is preferable to BPF in vibration signal processing. Moreover, the significance level alpha would be optimized by genetic algorithms. However, it is very difficult to identify fault states only from time domain waveform or frequency spectrum when the effect of the noise is so strong or fault feature is not obvious. Pattern recognition is then applied to fault diagnosis in this study through system clustering method. This paper processes experiment rig data that after statistics filter, and the accuracy of clustering analysis increases substantially.

Abstract:Rolling bearings often work under variable speed conditions, resulting in nonstationary vibrations. How to effectively extract the time-varying fault frequency from nonstationary vibration signals is a key issue in rolling bearing fault diagnosis. To address this issue, a quality time–frequency analysis of excellent time–frequency readability and robust to noise is necessary. To this end, the concentration of frequency and time (ConceFT) method is exploited. Based on this time–frequency analysis method, and considering the modulation feature of rolling bearing vibrations, we propose joint time-varying amplitude and frequency demodulated spectra to reveal the time-varying fault characteristic frequency. Firstly, the optimal frequency band sensitive to rolling bearing fault is selected by spectral kurtosis. Then, both the amplitude envelope and instantaneous frequency of the sensitive signal component within the selected optimal frequency band are calculated. Next, the ConceFT method is applied to the amplitude envelope and instantaneous frequency to generate the time-varying amplitude and frequency demodulated spectra. Finally, rolling bearing fault can be diagnosed by analysis of the time-varying frequency revealed by the time-varying demodulated spectra. This method is free from complex time-varying sidebands, and is robust to noise interference. It is illustrated by numerical simulated signal analysis, and is further validated via lab experimental rolling bearing vibration signal analyses. The localized defects on both inner and outer race are successfully diagnosed.

Abstract:The failure of a rolling bearing may cause the shutdown of mechanical equipment and even induce catastrophic accidents, resulting in tremendous economic losses and a severely negative impact on society. Fault diagnosis of rolling bearings becomes an important topic with much attention from researchers and industrial pioneers. There are an increasing number of publications on this topic. However, there is a lack of a comprehensive survey of existing works from the perspectives of fault detection and fault type recognition in rolling bearings using vibration signals. Therefore, this paper reviews recent fault detection and fault type recognition methods using vibration signals. First, it provides an overview of fault diagnosis of rolling bearings and typical fault types. Then, existing fault diagnosis methods are categorized into fault detection methods and fault type recognition methods, which are separately revised and discussed. Finally, a summary of existing datasets, limitations/challenges of existing methods, and future directions are presented to provide more guidance for researchers who are interested in this field. Overall, this survey paper conducts a review and analysis of the methods used to diagnose rolling bearing faults and provide comprehensive guidance for researchers in this field.

Abstract:Vibration analysis has been proved to be an effective and powerful tool for the condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of rolling bearings. During the past decades, the conventional envelope analysis has been one of the main approaches in vibration signal processing. However, the envelope analysis is based on stationary assumption, thus it is not applicable to the fault diagnosis of bearings under rotating speed variation conditions. This constraint limits the bearing diagnosis in industrial applications. In recent years, order tracking methods based on time–frequency representation have been proposed for bearing fault detection under speed variation operating conditions. However, the methods are only applicable for offline bearing fault detection. Aiming at the shortcomings of the current tacholess order tracking techniques, an online tacholess order tracking method is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is on the basis of extracting the instantaneous tachometer information from the collected vibration signal itself continuously, and resampling the original signal with equal angle increment. The envelope order spectrum is used for bearing fault identification. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been validated by both simulated and experimental bearing vibration signals.

Abstract:Bearing faults signal is very weak under a low rotating speed, and therefore fault diagnosis for bearings under a low rotating speed, is more difficult than under a high rotating speed. The wavelet analysis technique is adopted for fault diagnosis of rolling element bearing under low rotating speed. This work also acquired vibration signals and acoustic emission signals from the rolling bearing under low speed respectively, and analyzed the both kinds of signals for diagnosing the typical bearing faults contrastively.

Abstract:To implement fault diagnosis using the vibration signal of gearbox,the vibration signal is processed by the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP)algorithm.The vibration signal of gearbox contains running characteristics and mixes a lot of noises,and presents non-stationary signal feature.It is important to remove redundant information,extract major information to express signal.Traditional frequency domain analysis method can only qualitatively judge fault from the frequency domain figure,cannot quantitatively compute the fault.Orthogonal matching pursuit is a quantitative method to extract characteristics.In this paper the OMP method is used to map time domain to frequency domain based on the Fourier orthogonal basis,and the major characteristics are obtained in the frequency domain.According to the principal component analysis (PCA),it extracts three sets of major characteristics,then the characteristics of known fault classification signal are compared with the characteristics of the detected signal.By comparing the location and the fault of the vibration state can be judged.The experiment results show that the method can accurately judge the characteristics of five different forms of the gearbox from the normal state to the 100% wear,and complete the fault diagnosis and classification of the gearbox.

Abstract:Health management of machines is a very crucial part for any industry. The reason being, a slight ignorance in this field can lead to huge financial losses, and in some cases can even cause causalities. Talking about industrial machines like lathe, milling, laser cutting, and CNCs; every structure has a common mechanical part i.e. bearing. So, fault diagnosis of bearing needs the most attention. This article describes an approach for fault diagnosis of bearing using a non-conventional three step procedure (data acquisition, signal processing, and data classification). For data acquisition, ceramic shear piezoelectric accelerometer having a sensitivity of 10.2 mV/(m/s 2 ), has been used. To convert time domain vibration data into time-frequency domain image, signal processing is performed using continuous wavelet transform (CWT). Unlike conventional approaches, in this method, feature extraction and data classification are performed using a single technique i.e. visual geometry group 19 (vgg-19). For the testing and validation of proposed method, four types of bearing samples (different health conditions) i.e. normal bearing, inner race faulty bearing (fault 1), outer race faulty bearing (fault 2), and rolling element faulty bearing (fault 3) have been used. The results using the proposed approach are very encouraging, and a classification accuracy of 100% was achieved using 5 epochs. In future, this strategy can be used for investigation and condition monitoring of different mechanical parts including gear, pulley, rotor, and reducer.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to develop a fault diagnosis algorithm by vibrational analysis for an industrial gear hobbing machine. Gear Hobbing is the most dominant and profitable process for manufacturing high quality gears. In order to sustain the market competition gear manufacturers, need to produce high quality gears with minimum possible cost. However, catastrophic failures do occur in gear hobbing process which causes unexpected machine down time and revenue loss. These failures can be avoided by using condition monitoring approaches. In the proposed approach vibration data during different faults such as lubrication error, excessive feed rate, loose bearing error is collected from an industrial gear hobbing machine using three axis MEMS accelerometer. The collected data is analyzed and classified with spectral kurtosis and Dynamic Time Warping algorithm. The efficiency of the proposed approach is 90 percent as determined by experimental results. The proposed approach can provide a low-cost solution for predictive maintenance for gear hobbing industries..

Abstract:In complex industrial environments, the vibration signal of the rolling bearing is covered by noise, which makes fault diagnosis inaccurate. In order to overcome the effect of noise on the signal, a rolling bearing fault diagnosis method based on the WOA-VMD (Whale Optimization Algorithm-Variational Mode Decomposition) and the GAT (Graph Attention network) is proposed to deal with end effect and mode mixing issues in signal decomposition. Firstly, the WOA is used to adaptively determine the penalty factor and decomposition layers in the VMD algorithm. Meanwhile, the optimal combination is determined and input into the VMD, which is used to decompose the original signal. Then, the Pearson correlation coefficient method is used to select IMF (Intrinsic Mode Function) components that have a high correlation with the original signal, and selected IMF components are reconstructed to remove the noise in the original signal. Finally, the KNN (K-Nearest Neighbor) method is used to construct the graph structure data. The multi-headed attention mechanism is used to construct the fault diagnosis model of the GAT rolling bearing in order to classify the signal. The results show an obvious noise reduction effect in the high-frequency part of the signal after the application of the proposed method, where a large amount of noise was removed. In the diagnosis of rolling bearing faults, the accuracy of the test set diagnosis in this study was 100%, which is higher than that of the four other compared methods, and the diagnosis accuracy rate of various faults reached 100%.

Abstract:The multi-disc wet clutch is widely used in transmission systems as it transfers the torque and power between the gearbox and the driving engine. During service, the buckling of the friction components in the wet clutch is inevitable, which can shorten the lifetime of the wet clutch and decrease the vehicle performance. Therefore, fault diagnosis and online monitoring are required to identify the buckling state of the friction components. However, unlike in other rotating machinery, the time-domain features of the vibration signal lack efficiency in fault diagnosis for the wet clutch. This paper aims to present a new fault diagnosis method based on multi-speed Hilbert spectrum entropy to classify the buckling state of the wet clutch. Firstly, the wet clutch is classified depending on the buckling degree of the disks, and then a bench test is conducted to obtain vibration signals of each class at varying speeds. By comparing the accuracy of different classifiers with and without entropy, Hilbert spectrum entropy shows higher efficiency than time-domain features for the wet clutch diagnosis. Thus, the classification results based on multi-speed entropy achieve even better accuracy.
