After 3 months, bone mineral density was elevation and bone pain was improved too.Thus can gain a conclusion, the salmon calcitonion could be benefit to osteoporsis.

Abstract:Objective To observe the effect of salmon calcitonin injection in treating senior osteoporosis. Methods The patients with osteoporosis were divided into two groups randomly, research group and control group. The research group were treated by salmon calcitonin injection and calcium, while the control group were treated only by calcium. Result Compared with the control group, the bone density and the pain remission rate together with the patients' viability were increased significantly in the research group after treating(P<0.01). Conclusions Salmon calcitonin injection is effective in treating senior osteoporosis.

Abstract:Aim: To observe the therapeutic effects of salmon calcitonin, which can directively inhibit bone absorption, adjust the activity and number of osteoblasts, and accelerate osteogenesis, on the bone metabolism, fracture healing and low back pain in elderly patients with osteoporotic vertebral fracture. Methods: 1A total of 138 elderly patients with osteoporotic vertebral fracture, who were selected from the Department of Orthopaedics, Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University between June 2000 and June 2003, were randomly divided into two groups: control group (n=65) and salmon calcitonin group (n=73). 2 All the patients lay on the bed with a soft pillow at lower back or upper back, and assisted by oral mid-patent medicine, besides, those in the salmon calcitonin group were treated by intramuscular injection of Miacalcic, once a day for a month continuously, they also took calcium 600 mg per day. 3 Before treatment and 1 month after treatment, blood osteocalcin was determined with radioimmunoassay, the second urine after get-up in the morning was collected, urinary calcium was detected with the azo three arsine method, urinary hydroxyproline with chemiluminoimmunoassay, urinary creatinine with the basic bitter acid method, and the urinary calcium/urinary creatinine ratio and urinary hydroxyproline/urinary creatinine ratio were calculated. 4 The spinogram was reexamined at 4, 6 and 8 weeks after treatment to investigate the condition of fracture healing. 5 The patients were followed up for 12 months by means of reexamination, the fracture healing and low back pain were observed. 6 The difference before and after medication in the same group was compared with the paired t test. Results: Of the 138 patients with osteoporosis, 3 cases stopped the treatment at about 1 week after medication because of the occurrence of facial flush, headache, nausea, emesis and itch of skin after intramuscular injection of Miacalcic, and finally 135 cases were involved in the analysis of results. 1 In the salmon calcitonin group at 1 month after treatment, the blood osteocalcin was obviously higher than that before treatment [(9.43±4.75), (7.41±3.03) μg/L, P< 0.01], urinary hydroxyproline/urinary creatinine ratio was obviously lower than that before treatment [(2.15±0.96), (3.32±0.96) mg/mmol, P < 0.01]. 2 The reexamination of spinogram at 4, 6 and 8 weeks after treatment indicated that the healing rate of fracture was 99% in the salmon calcitonin group and 86% in the control group. The fracture healed in 9 cases at 8 weeks after treatment in the control group. 3 The low back pain disappeared at 2 weeks after treatment in 43 cases and 8 cases respectively in the salmon calcitonin group and control group, that disappeared at 1 month after medication in 19 cases and 29 cases respectively in the salmon calcitonin group and control group. Ten cases in the control group still had lumbag at 1 year after the healing of fracture. Conclusion: Salmon calcitonin can inhibit the bone metabolism and bone absorption of patients with osteoporosis. Salmon calcitonin can accelerate the healing of osteoporotic vertebral fraction, and rapidly improve the symptoms of low back pain.

Abstract:ObjectiveTo explore the effect of salmon calcitonin combined with azole phosphonic acid in the treatment of osteoporosis in elderly men.Method173 cases of elderly male patients with osteoporosis were randomly divided into control group and experimental group, the two groups of patients were given oral calcium supplements, on the basis of the control group patients were given salmon calcitonin nasal spray, experimental group patients were given azole phosphonic acid injection, a course of 1 year. Compared the two groups of patients with clinical efifcacy, bone mineral density (BMD) before and after treatment, serum bone alkaline phosphatase (BAP), serum the C-terminal peptide (CTX) type I collagen levels and adverse reactions.ResultThere was no signiifcant difference of BMD between the two groups before treatment (P>0.05); BMD in both groups after treatment were higher than before treatment (P<0.05), experimental group was higher than control group (P<0.05). The total effective rate of experimental group patients was higher than control group (P<0.05). The level of BAP in the two groups after treatment were higher than before treatment, the CTX levels were lower than before treatment (P<0.05), the level of BAP in experimental group was signiifcantly higher than control group (P<0.05). There were no signiifcant differences in adverse reactions between the two groups (χ2=1.027,P>0.05).ConclusionSalmon calcitonin combined with azole phosphonic acid can effectively improve the elderly male patients with osteoporosis bone mineral density, curative effect is distinct, worth of clinical promotion.
Effects of salmon calcitonin treatment on serum and synovial fluid bone formation and resorption markers in osteoporosis patients

Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of salmon calcitonin, and calcium and vitamin D treatment on bone mineral density, serum and synovial fluid bone formation and resorption markers in patients with osteoporosis. Methods: The study was completed with twenty-five osteoporosis patients divided into two groups: The 15 patients comprising Group I (1 male and 14 females; mean age: 67.0±12.0) were administered calcitonin treatment in addition to calcium and vitamin D. The 10 patients in Group II (3 males and 7 females; mean age 68.0±16.0) were administered calcium and vitamin D only. Serum and synovial fluid calcium phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, calcitonin, C-telopeptide (CTx), N-telopeptide (NTx) and sialoprotein levels, and bone densitometries were determined at the beginning and at the end of one year of treatment. Results: In the calcitonin and calcium and vitamin D treatment group (Group I), femoral neck density scores were decreased and vertebrae scores were increased after one-year treatment. Both scores were increased in the non-calcitonin group (Group II). In Group I, synovial fluid levels of calcitonin, sialoprotein and NTx were decreased, and synovial fluid CTx levels showed no change. The only decrease that was statistically significant was that in calcitonin levels. In Group II, synovial fluid calcitonin levels were decreased, synovial fluid CTx levels were increased and synovial fluid NTx and sialoprotein level were unchanged. These changes were not statistically significant. Serum changes in the parameters were not statistically significant in either group. Conclusion: In osteoporosis, salmon calcitonin treatment affects synovial fluid bone formation and absorption marker levels. Advanced studies are needed to evaluate the mechanisms by which this takes place, and to explain the relationship between osteoporosis and articular cartilage metabolism.

Abstract:Objective To assess the efficacy,safety and compliance of Miacalcic in osteoporotic fracture patients. Methods An open-label,multicenter,non-interventional,post marketing surveillance. Patients with osteoporotic intertrochanteric fracture were treated with internal fixation. All the patients were treated with Miacalcic injection or nasal spray and were followed up for 12 weeks. The extent of pain relief,fracture healing rate and the safety data were recorded in the observational period. Results Three hundred and twenty seven cases ( 92 males,235 females) from 22 centers were enrolled in the study and 317 cases were followed up for 12 weeks. The age ranged between 53 and 89 years old. The average VAS score at the baseline,1st week,and 4th week were 83. 6,55. 6,and 19. 1. The SF-36 score at the baseline,2nd week,4th week,and 12th week were 79. 3,92. 0,106. 9,and 126. 8,respectively. At the end of 12th week the fracture healing rate is 89. 9% . Conclusion Miacalcic could effectively relieve the pain after acute fracture and improve the life quality without negative effect to the fracture healing.

Abstract:Objective To study the effect of salmon calcitonin on bone mineral density and bone bone alkaline phosphatase (BALP), collagen type 1 carboxypropeptide (CICP),type I collagen carboxy terminal telopeptide (CTX - I)expression in elderly patients with osteoporotic fracture. Methods A total of 80 elderly patients with osteoporotic fractures treated from March 2015 to May 2016 were selected and randomly di-vided into two groups by random number table method. The two groups were treated with the same fracture treatment,while the control group was given calcium carbonate D3 tablets. The observation group was treated with salmon calcitonin. Lumbar spine bone mineral density (BMD)and Se-rum Osteocalcin (BGP)levels of two groups were compared before and after treatment. Bone metabolism indexes,including BALP,CICP,CTX- I and parathyroid gland hormone (PTH)levels were detected. Serum calcium and phosphorus,serum alkaline phosphatase levels,urinary calci-um,creatinine,and urinary calcium/ creatinine values calculated were compared. Results Lumbar bone density and serum osteocalcin of the two groups after treatment were significantly improved,the lumbar bone density and serum osteocalcin of observation group were significantly higher than those of the control group (P < 0. 05). BALP,CICP,CTX - I of the two groups after treatment reduced while parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels increased. BALP,CICP,CTX - I of the observation group after treatment were significantly lower than those of the control group,and PTH level significantly higher than that of the control group (P < 0. 05). Serum calcium and urinary calcium/ urine creatinine of the observation group after treatment decreased significantly,compared with the observation group there was also significantly different (P < 0. 05). The observation group was significantly higher than the control group (P < 0. 05). Conclusion Salmon calcitonin can significantly improve bone mineral densi-ty,PTH levels,reduce BALP,CICP,CTX - Ⅰ,serum calcium,urinary calcium/ creatinine levels in elderly patients with osteoporotic fractures, thereby increasing osteoblast activity and reducing osteoclasts cell activity.
Clinical observiation on calcitonin in management of osteoporosis

Abstract:Objective To study the influence of calcitonin on bone mineral density (BMD) in osteoporotic patients. Methods Totally, 198 osteoporotic patients were divided into two groups. Patients in Group Ⅰ(n=92) were given oral calcium (600mg+Vit D_3 125U,QD) and those in Group Ⅱ (n=102) were given oral calcium and calcitonin (Salcatonin 50 IU, IM, QD×14 d, then QOD×28 d, finally twice a week to the end of the course with the same dose of oral cacium and Vit D_3). Subgroups were divided according the courses of treatment, ie. 3 months and 6 months. The BMD of lumbar vertebra 2-4 and neck of left femur were measured by duel-energy X-ray absorptiometry before and after the treatment. Results Patients in Group Ⅱ had quicker and more effective pain relief than those in Group Ⅰ and the BMD was much more increased at both 3 and 6 months after the treatment than that of Group Ⅰ.The BMD at the 6 months was higher than that at the 3 months (P<0.01). The effect of the treatment on the lumbar vertebra was better than that of the femur neck. Conclusions Calcitonin is effective in management of osteoporosis and patients would obtain more benefit with relatively longer courses.
Salmon calcitonin combined with ossification in three alcohol treatment of renal osteopathy

Abstract:Objective:To observe the effects of salmon calcitonin combined ossification in three alcohol for treatment of renal osteodystrophy (renal osteopathy) effect. Methods:66 cases of patients with renal osteodystrophy were randomly divided into treatment group and control group, were treated with the basis of disease treatment, the treatment group added with salmon calcitonin (3 times 20 u, subcutaneous injection, once a week (with conventional hemodialysis), at the same time plus oral ossification in three alcohol treatment (0.25-1.0ug/D);control group with salmon calcitonin, parathyroid hormone in blood were detected before treatment and 3, 6, and 12 months (PTH), serum calcium, serum phosphorus level and lumbar pain, and the record level (visual analogue scale, VAS) and adverse reaction. Results:in the control group before treatment, serum calcium, serum phosphorus and PTH were 2.10 ± 0.28, 2.82 ± 0.34, 868.50 ± 125.57, after treatment were 2.34 ± 0.23, 2.23 ± 0.23 and 723.39 ± 117.73;the treatment group before treatment of parathyroid hormone (PTH), serum calcium, serum phosphorus level of 2.15 ± 0.40, 2.78 ± 0.45 、891.45 ± 124.73, after treatment were 2.78 ± 0.46, 2.12 ± 0.21, 610.57 ± 124.12, before and after the treatment, the difference was statistical y significant (P<0.05), the treatment group improved more obviously (P<0.05). Conclusion:the application of salmon calcitonin and combined with ossification in three alcohol can effectively reduce MHD in patients with bone loss in patients with renal osteodystrophy, decrease the level of PTH, improve the clinical symptomsand no obvious adverse reaction. It is worthy of clinical application.
Treatment on osteopenia of maintenance hemodialysis patients with salmon calcitonin

Abstract:Objective To study the effect of long-term salmon calcitonin on bone mineral density (BMD), bone metabolism biochemical indicators and subjective score of bone pain in maintenance hemedialysis (MHD) patients with osteopenia. Methods Thirty-four MHD patients diagnosed as osteopenia by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXEA) were enrolled in this study. All the patients were treated with hypodermic injection of salmon calcitonin (50 U, thrice a week) for 12 months. The detecting parameters were as follows: BMD with DEXA in lumbar spine (L1-L4), femoral neck, troch, inter, and Ward's triangle before and after the study;serum bone metabolism biochemical indicators before and 6 and 12 months after the study;subjective scores of bone pain before and 1, 6, and 12 months after the study. Results Thirty-two patients were followed-up successfully. As compared to BMD parameters before study, the total T-score (-1.98± 2.20 vs 1.26±1.88, P=0.009) and total Z-score (-0.90±2.15 vs 0.08±2.05, P=0.002) of lumbar spine, the total T-score (-1.72±1.53 vs 1.06±1.58, P=0.016) and totle Z-score (-0.66±0.80 vs 0.08±1.08, P=0.029) of hip, the T-score of L3 (-2.02±2.51 vs 1.24±2.02, P=0.033), the Z-score of L2 (-0.44±1.82 vs 0.06±1.63, P=0.016), the Z-score of femoral troch (-0.65±1.11 vs 0.48±1.12, P=0.034) and the Z-score of inter (-0.58±0.94 vs 0.02±1.12, P=0.006) were increased significantly after study. But there were no significant differences in other examined regions and serum biochemical parameters. The subjective scores of bone pain were decreased rapidly for 41.7% after 1 month (P<0.01) and 76.6% after 6 months (P<0.01). The subjective score of bone pain after 12 months was similar to 6 months. The side effects of salmon calcitonin included nausea and vomitting in 5 cases (14.71%, 5/34), dizziness, blushing and flustered in 1 case respectively (3.13%,1/32). Conclusions Long-term hypodermic injection of salmon calcitonin can improve BMD and bone pain for MHD patients with osteopenia but has no significant effect on serum bone metabolism biochemical indicators. Salmon calcitonin is safe for MHD patients with seldom side effects, such as nausea and vomitting.

Abstract:Objectives: To explore the effects of salmon calcitonin on the healing process of osteoporotic fractures in ovariectomized rats. Methods: We performed this study in The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College, Guangzhou, China, during the period March 2002 to December 2004. We used 120 female adult Wistar rats in this experiment, among which 90 underwent ovariectomy (OVX) and the other 30 had sham-operation. All rats had their left tibias fractured 3 months later. The 90 OVX rats were randomly divided into 3 groups with 30 in each, while the 30 sham-operated rats served as control group. After the fracture the rats had subcutaneous injection of normal saline, salmon calcitonin and estrogen, respectively. X-ray film, histological examination, bone mineral density (BMD) measurement and biomechanics testing were carried out to evaluate the fracture healing. Results: Compared with OVX rats treated with normal saline, the rats with salmon calcitonin had significantly higher BMD values in the left tibia, higher max torque, shear stress of the left tibia 8 weeks after fracture (p < 0.05), and presented with stronger callus formation, shorter fracture healing time and faster normalization of microstructure of bone trabeculae. Conclusions: Salmon calcitonin can, not only increase BMD in osteoporotic bone, but also enhance the bone biomechanical properties and improve the process of fracture healing in fractured osteoporotic bone.
The Effects of Calcitonin Treatment on Bone Quality in Patients Withosteoporosis

Abstract:Objective To study the effects of calcitonin on bone mineral density(BMD), bone strength and bone fragile fracture in osteoporosis. Methods This is a one year, single centered, prospective and randomized, opening study: 135 patients with osteoporosis were divided into calcitonin+calcium group and calcium group. Patients of calcitonin+calcium group received salmon calcitonin(Miacalcic was injected intramuscularly, 50 IU/day in first week, 50 IU/two days in second week and 50 IU/twice/week later) and calcium(calcium 600 mg/day), patients in another group received calcium(calcium 600 mg/day). The determination markers included serum calcium, serum phosphate, serum alkline phosphatase, osteocalcin and urine hydroxyproline before and after treatment, at same time all patients were examined by DEXA(lumbar, hip) and QUS(radius, tibia). Results After 1 year treatment, 53 patients of calcitonin+calcium group and 59 patients of calcium group were followed up. In calcitonin+calcium group, BMD of lumbar spine increased about 1%(P 0.05), but BMD of hip had no change, bone strength of radius and tibia had significant improvement. In calcium group, BMD of lumbar spine, hip and bone strength of radius, tibia decreased significantly(P 0.05), and the rate of fragile fracture was higher than that of calcitonin+calcium group. Conclusion There are beneficial effects of calcitonin treatment on bone in osteoporosis, it relieves pain, and improves bone quality and decrease the rate of fragile fracture.
Analysis on the Therapeutic Effect of Salmon Calcitonin(miacalcic) Combined with Radiotherapy in Patients with Bone Metastases

Abstract:【Objective】 To observe the therapeutic effect of salmon calcitonin(Miacalcic) combined with external beam radiotherapy linear accelerator in patients with bone metastases.【Methods】 42 patients with bone metastases were selected from August 2008 to August 2009,they were treated with external beam radiotherapy linear accelerator(radiotherapy with conventional fractionation way,200 cGy / times,5 times / week,a total of 10 radiation).Among them,21 cases were treated only with external beam radiotherapy linear accelerator and another 21 were treated with Miacalcic(100 IU,intramuscular injection,1/day) combined with external radiation therapy linear accelerator.After the treatment,the level of pain was estimated.The level of serum calcium and alkaline phosphates were measured before and after treatment.【Results】 In 21 patients treated with radiotherapy alone,the pain level of 16 were relieved(76.1%),the level of serum calcium of 6 were normal(28.6%),the level of serum alkaline phosphates of 13 were cut down(61.9%).In another 21 patients,the above-mentioned indexes were 19(90.5%) and 21(100%) respectively.After statistical analysis,the difference between two groups were significant(P 0.05).【Conclusion】 In patients with bone metastases and treated with salmon calcitonin(Miacalcic) combined with external beam radiotherapy linear accelerator,the level of pain relieve significantly.At the same time,the level of serum calcium and alkaline phosphates reduce effectively.
Study of the clinical application of salmon calcitonin in the prevention of aseptic loosening of the prosthesis after artificial femoral head replacement

Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of salmon calcitonin in the prevention of aseptic loosening of the prosthesis after artificial femoral head replacement.Methods One hundred and forty-six patients who received artificial femoral head replacement from January 2010 to January 2011 in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of Wuyi Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were followed up.They were randomly divided into treatment group and control group, with 73 cases in each group.Patients in control group received oral calcium tablets daily (Caltrate D, containing 600mg calcium and 125u vitamin D).Patients in the treatment group received subcutaneous injection of calcitonin salmon (Miacalcic 50U) daily besides calcium tablets.The treatment lasted for 6 months.Bone mineral density ( BMD ) around the prosthesis ( ROI ) in both groups were examined before and 4-, 8-, 12-, and 24-week after the operation.Serum bone metabolic markers osteocalcin ( BGP) and type I collagen peptide ( C end of heterogeneous beta,β-CTX) were deterimined in patients of both groups before and 4-, 12-, and 24-week after the operation.BMD and bone metabolic markers before and after the operation were comparied and analyzed. Results After 24-week of operation, BMD of ROI in the treatment group increased nearly 5%, while BMD of ROI in the control group decreased 6%.The difference between the two groups was significant ( P<0.01 ) .Bone metabolic index BGP and β-CTX decreased slightly after 24-week of the operation in the treatment group, but no significant difference was within the group ( P>005).However, these indexes were significantly different comparing to those in the control group (P <0.05 or P <0.01). Conclusion The treatment of salmon calcitonin ( Miacalcic) combined with basic therapy can significantly improve bone mass around the prosthesis, which is one of the effective methods for prevention of aseptic loosening.

Abstract:Objective To observe percutaneous vertebroplasty(PVP) combined with salmon calcitonin for the treatment of patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture(OVCF) through comparative research.Methods The OVCF patients treated with PVP from Feb 2008 to Jan 2011 were randomly divided into two groups.The patients in treatment group were treated with intramuscular injection of salmon calcitonin after the operation for 3 weeks and nasal spray of salmon calcitonin after that at least for 3 months.The patients in control group were treated with PVP only.The clinical efficacies of the two groups were assessed with the visual analogue pain score(VAS) and the capability of living score(Barthel Index) before the operation,and 1 week,1 month,3 months,and 6 months after the operation,respectively.Results Pain of patients in both two groups was relieved significantly.However,the pain relieve at 1-,3-,and 6-month after the operation and the improvement of life quality in the treatment group were more significant than those in the control group.This difference became more significant along with the follow up time.Conclusion PVP combined with salmon calcitonin can effectively relieve the pain of OVCF patients and improve their life quality.It is worthy of clinical promotion.
Comparative Study of the Impact of Alendronate Sodium and Salmon Calcitonin on Bone-Prosthesis Osseointegration in Osteoporotic Bone

Abstract:Objective To study the effects of Alendonate sodium and salmon Calcitonin on the bone-prosthesis osseointegration,providing evidence for clinical selection of antiosteoporotic drugs clinical application.Methods The osteoporosis model of rats was established by removing the ovaries and measuring lumbar BMD four weeks after ovariectomy(volume decreased by 20%).After been grouped by randomization,40 female SD rats received implantation surgery at their tibial plateau.Then the rats in Group C and D were given salmon calcitonin (5 IU/kg/d) by subcutaneous injection and Alendronate sodium ( 7 mg /kg/w) orally for 12 weeks,respectively,while group A,B as the control group of drug intervention.Prior to the execution,application of tetracycline hydrochloride for staining in vivo was done.After harvesting and embedding,the tibia with implants were cut into thin slides vertically,then the bone histomorphometry was measured to observe bone formation around the prosthesis and,meanwhhile,osseointegration rate of the HA implants were calculated.By comparison,the effects of the drugs on osseointegration were evaluated.Results (1) Both Alendronate sodium (ALO) and salmon calcitonin (CT) could effectively enhance the volume of bone mass surrounding the implanted HA prosthesis and also significantly lifed up osseointegration rate to 63.7% and 45.7%,respectively (P0.05).However,Alendronate sodium produced more significant effects than that of calcitonin on periprosthesis osseointegration rate,incresed to 18% (P0.05).(2) The rats' lumber BMD in CT and ALO groups both increased,from (0.078 ± 0.009) g/cm2 and (0.081 ± 0.009) g/cm2 to (0.109 ± 0.010) g/cm2 and (0.116 ± 0.008) g/cm2,respectively.Meanwhile,Alendronate sodium was significantly effective than Calcitonin.Conclusions In osteoporosis,both taking Alendronate sodium orally and injection of salmon calcitonin subcutaneously can enhance periprosthesis bone formation and promote the effective osteointegration between host bone and prosthesis.Compared with salmon calcitonin,the effect of Alendronate sodium shows even more pronounced.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the therapeutic effects of recombinant human parathyroid hormone 1-34(rhPTH1-34)combined with Caltrate D on post-menopausal women with osteoporosis.Methods Eighty-four post-menopausal women into osteoporosis were divided randomly into experimental group and control group,each group with 42 cases.The experimental group was treated with rhPTH1-34 combined with Caltrate,while the control group was treated with Caltrate D.The treatment course of the two groups were 6 months.The bone mineral density,serum calcium,phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase(Alkaline phosphatase,ALP)before and after treatment,the bone pain symptom change and treatment during the fracture rate in the two groups of patients were observed.Results After the treatment,the bone mineral density(T value)in the experimental group was increased compared with that before treatment,with significant difference(P0.05);after the treatment,the bone mineral density(T value)in the experimental group was also increased compared with the control group,with significant difference(P0.05).After treatment,the ALP concentrations on the experimental group and control group were increased compared with those before treatment,with significant difference(P0.05),and the experimental group was increased compared with the control group after treatment,with significant difference(P0.05).The rate of bone pain treatment efficacy in the experimental group was 66.67%;that in the control group was 50%,which showed a significant difference(χ2 =4.04,P 0.05).Conclusion rhPTH1-34 combined with Caltrate D treatment can increase bone mineral density and relieve symptoms on post-menopausal women with osteoporosis.
Effectiveness of combined salmon calcitonin and aspirin therapy for osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats

Abstract:The objective of the present study was to assess the effectiveness of combined salmon calcitonin (sCT) and aspirin [acetylsalicylic acid (ASA)] treatment in an ovariectomized (OVX) rat model of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Following 12 weeks of treatment, therapeutic efficacy was assessed by evaluating changes in the biochemical and biophysical properties of bone (n=8 rats per group). Serological markers of bone metabolism were measured by ELISA; bone mineral densities (BMD) by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry; bone biomechanics of the femur and lumbar vertebrae by three-point stress test; trabecular bone morphology of lumbar vertebrae by hematoxylin and eosin staining; messenger RNA expression levels of osteoprotegerin (OPG) and receptor activator of nuclear factor κB ligand (RANKL) in bone marrow cells by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction and OPG and RANKL protein expression levels in the proximal tibia were analyzed by immunohistochemistry. Compared with treatment by sCT or ASA alone, combined treatment (sCT+ASA) increased BMD, improved femur bone strength, normalized trabecular network architecture and morphology, and increased mRNA and protein expression of OPG, while reducing the expression of RANKL. Collectively, these results demonstrated that combined treatment (sCT+ASA) of osteoporotic symptoms in OVX rats was more effective than treatment with sCT or ASA alone. Furthermore, these two drugs appeared to alter the expression of two distinct factors in the OPG/RANKL/RANK system, suggesting that their effects may be synergistic. Since sCT and ASA are currently approved for use in humans, the results of the present study suggest that the safety and efficacy of sCT+ASA combined therapy for post-menopausal osteoporosis should be assessed in clinical trials.
Clinical Effects of Miacalcic and Drug Combination in Treating Middle-aged and Elderly Patients with Osteoporosis Fracture

Abstract:Objective:To explore the clinical effects of Miacalcic and drug combination in treating middle-aged and aged patients with osteoporosis fracture. Methods:Ninety-nine patients with osteoporosis fracture were randomly divided into 3 groups:the treatment group was treated with Salcalcitonin,Xianlinggubao and calcitriol,control group A with calcitriol and control group B with Xianlinggubao alone. The therapeutic course was 3 months,and from the 4th week during the treatment,X-ray examination was taken every two weeks to observe the bony callus formation. Results:The fracture healing time was (6.2±1.3) weeks in the treatment group,(8.1±2.1) weeks in control group A and (7.9±1.9) weeks in control group B,showing significant differences between them (P0.05). Pain assessment after two weeks in the treatment group was (0.72±0.53),and respectively (2.15±1.05) and (2.72±1.62) in control group was A and B,and there were also significant differences between them (P0.05). Conclusion:The combination of Salcalcitonin,Calcitriol and Xianlinggubao present good effect in treating osteoporosis fracture.

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of Alfacalcidol combined with Calcitonin in the treatment of osteoporosis and its influence on the degree of pain, bone metabolism indexes, bone mineral density and inflammatory factor levels. Methods: In this retrospective study, 110 patients with osteoporosis treated in The Second Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University from January 2019 to June 2021 were selected as the study subjects. According to different treatment methods, these patients were divided into an observation group and a control group with 55 cases in each group. Patients from the control group were treated with the alfacalcidol capsules alone, while those from the observation group were treated with the alfacalcidol capsules combined with intramuscular calcitonin injection. Patients in both groups were treated for 6 months continuously. The treatment effect, visual analogue scale (VAS) score and Oswestry disability index (ODI), bone mineral density (BMD), serum markers levels such as calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-5b (TRACP-5b), insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1), type I procollagen amino terminal propeptide (PINP) and β-collagen special sequence (β-Crosslaps), the levels of inflammatory factor including interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), quality Life Questionnaire Core 30 (QLQ-C30) scores and incidences of adverse reactions were evaluated and compared between the two groups. Results: The effective rate of patients in the observation group was 90.91%, which was significantly higher than 74.54% in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the term of VAS score, ODI score, serum markers levels, bone mineral density, inflammatory levels, QLQ-C30 before treatment between the two groups. Compared with the control group, the post-treatment VAS score, ODI score, the levels of IL-6, TNF-α, TRACP-5b, PINP and β-Crosslaps in the observation group were obviously lower, while the post-treatment QLQ-C30, bone mineral density, Ca, P, ALP, IGF-1 levels were significantly higher (all P<0.05). No statistical differences were found in the incidences of adverse reactions between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: The combination of Alfacalcidol combined with Calcitonin is effective in the treatment of osteoporosis patients, which can effectively improve the levels of bone metabolism indexes and bone mineral density, alleviate the symptoms, enhance the life quality and reduce the levels of inflammation. Therefore, it is worth promoting.
Prevention and Treatment of the Aseptic Loosening of Prosthesis for the Rabbits of Osteoporosis by the Salmon Calcitonin:An Experimental Study

Abstract:[Objective]To investigate the prevention and treatment of the aseptic loosening of prosthesis for the rabbits of osteoporosis by the salmon calcitonin.[Method]Thirty osteoporosis female rabbits which had been set up the models of the arthroplasty were divided into two groups randomly;one received salmon calcitonin,and the other placebo as control for 6 months.The BMD of the region of interested(ROI)around the prosthesis was detected before the operation and after 4,8,12 and 24 weeks of the operation;the BALP,BGP and TRAP-Sb in reflecting bone metabolism were observed before operation and after 4,12,24 weeks of operation.All rabbits were sacrificed after 24 weeks of implantation.Specimens of right femur were sectioned to be studied by biomechanical test and histomorphometry.[Result]The BMD of ROI for the experimental group increased by 5%,however that of the control decreased by 6%.Among the bone metabolism,the BALP,BGP and TRAP-5b showed lower,specially the TRAP-5b(P0.01)compared with the control.The pull-out strength of the experimental group was 1.5 times than that of the control and the torsion strength was 2 times,while there was a significant difference(P0.01)on this aspects.The result of histomorphometry showed the bone loss decreased and the mini-structure of bone(%Tb.Ar,Tb.N,Tb.Sp)became better;the remodel of trabcular(OS/BS,MAR,BFR/TV,%L.Pm)increased obviously and the bone resorption(Oc.No/Tb.Pm,ES/BS)decreased,and there were a significance on all the aspects between the two groups(P0.01 or P0.05).[Conclusion]The therapy of salmon calcitonin can decrease the bone loss and the bone resorption around the prosthesis,increase the BMD of ROI,accelerate the formation of bone and the good change of the bone mini-structure,and change the quality of bone with the better aspects of bone biomechanical test and the stabilities of prosthesis.The salmon calcitonin can inhibit aseptic loosening of prosthesis in rabbits and it chould be a good drug for the prevention and treatment of aseptic loosening prothesis for the rabbits of osteoporosis.
