A Motivation Study on the Undergraduates in Choosing the Major of Hospitality and Tourism Management Between Mainland China and Taiwan

Abstract:This study attempts to find out why undergraduate students between Mainland China and Taiwan want to major in HTM, why they prefer to study abroad, and what their preferred study field is. More specific objectives are as follows. The first objective of this study is to investigate motivations of Mainland Chinese and Taiwanese undergraduate students in choosing an HTM program and in studying abroad. The second objective is to identify preferred countries for studying abroad. The third objective is to explore preferred study fields while studying abroad. This study attempts to compare samples between Mainland China and Taiwan, as well as to identify similarities and differences between them. Results of this study are expected to give a realistic picture of HTM education for undergraduate students across the straits by the method of quantitative analysis.
