Abstract:The batch-to-batch model-based iterative optimal control strategy for batch processes is realized based on multilayer recurrent fuzzy neural network (MRFNN) and chaotic search. MRFNNs are used to model batch processes. Modeling and optimization problems are mainly solved by chaotic search. Due to model-plant mismatches and disturbances, the calculated optimal control profile may not be optimal when applied to the actual process. Current predictions are improved by prediction errors from previous batches, and the model errors are gradually reduced from batch-to-batch. Furthermore, the control strategy is developed for temperature tracking control. The effectiveness is verified on simulated batch reactors.

Abstract:An approach of using abstract state machine (ASM) in Internetware was presented to effectively support and realize the automation of Internetware. The peer-to-peer (P2P) network was used to support the network environment of Internetware. The design model of ASM was proposed to describe the behaviors and the state changes of the whole system from a higher abstract concept level. Then the system characteristic was easy to control. The architecture of the ASM in Internetware was analyzed,the detailed operating rules on ASM were proposed,and the changes were introduced in system states. A supporting platform of Internetware design and operation began to take shape through the design and implementation according to the states,events,methods,data,and rules involved in ASM. ASM is feasible in Internetware and can realize the automation feature of Internetware.

Abstract:There has been extensive interest in model algorithm control (MAC) and its application to industrial processes for dealing with time-varying parameters, uncertain characteristics. But the control based on basic MAC method still exists some problems. One of the problems is how to design MAC system to improve the robustness to prior choice of model. The second is how to use the adaptive algorithm for on-line estimation which doesn't need a huge amount of computational time that influence the regulation performance for engineering application. In this paper, a novel adaptive model algorithm control (AMAC) is developed with consideration for dealing with the model prediction error and bounded disturbances and noise, combined with the auto-stop parameter estimation technique. Based on this method, the complex system can be described with low-term system, which results in reducing computational time, and improving the robustness to model structure for effective control of complex chemical processes. Finally, according to the proposed AMAC method, two typical processes are studied by computer simulation. The results show this AMAC method is much advantaged with robustness to modelling error and different bounded disturbance and can be easily applied to control the complex processes.

Abstract:On the basis of the discussion of emotion model and emotion theory,a new framework of artificial emotion model is proposed based on emotion characteristics.The transfer process of emotion state and behavioral strategies with the external environment stimulation are analyzed,in which Automata theory is used.According to the agent demands of the control functions,an artificial emotion model based on finite Automata is constructed,and corresponding sequential circuits is also established.The model provides a new idea and method from the perspective of functions for the realization of the project of artificial emotion.

Abstract:According to the characteristics of workflow process execution, a kind of reactive activity-centered process meta-model is defined and a kind of graphical notation is provided for it, at the same time, for this meta-model, a kind of dynamic semantics is specified, which represents the runtime behavior of the process and can be expressed as a finite state automata. Finally, an example is given to illustrate how to apply it to analyze the semantic correctness of process models.

Abstract:Batch processes are often characterized by piecewise linear dynamics due to varying operating conditions. Multiphase and multimode modeling of batch processes is a common technique that offers insight into the process operation and improved online monitoring. However, existing monitoring methods have several drawbacks such as neglecting process dynamics, requiring separate treatment of transient behavior, and relying on uniformity between batches. These challenges are addressed here by proposing a new strategy to construct a dynamic model for monitoring multimode and multiphase batch processes. A linear dynamic system partitions phases and describes local dynamic behavior before modes of operation are clustered based on the global differences between batches. Lastly, an expectation maximization algorithm for multibatch data in the same mode is applied to estimate phase parameters. Process monitoring results on a benchmark penicillin fermentation data set suggest a significant improvement over previous methods.

Abstract:Batch process is an important class of chemical processes.Due to its high flexibility and versatility,it has found wide application in industry such as semi-conductor manufacturing,polymer processing,and pharmaceutical production.Meanwhile,efforts have been made in the research on control algorithms for batch processes.In the past 30 years,batch process control has achieved significant developments.However,due to its complexity and increasing requirements on control precision,there are still many challenging problems in this field.In this paper,starting from the nature of batch process,we address the challenges in this field,review the development of control strategies,analyze several classical control algorithms,and discuss the future development of batch process control.

Abstract:Flat shunting is a type of discrete event systems in the process of railway dispatching.It is very important that software of any flat shunting system have high reliability and high testability for ensuring transportation safety.For that goal,it is necessary to build a kind of regular design methods for software of flat shunting systems.In this paper,the complexity of event driving in the process of flat shunting and the limitation of description with natural language are analyzed.Therefore new descriptions of some processes in a flat shunting system with automaton models are proposed.In detail,the relationships between a flat shunting system and timed automata(TA),pushdown automata(PDA) and the structure of layered automata are discussed.On the basis of explaining the partition of states,the data structure and the flow of state transition,a design method of flat shunting systems based on automaton models is built.

Abstract:Abstract The IFBMDA is an Information-Flow-Based model for Mechanical Design Automation. This paper first analyzes the mechanical design process from the views of design methodology and cognitive model. Then, two essential assumptions about mechanical design behavior are provided. Based on the analysis and fundamental assumptions, this paper thoroughly describes five submodels which constitute the automation model IFBMDA. They are Information Flow model, Knowledge Processing model, Non-monotonic Expansion Search model, Iterative Constraint Generation and Solution model and Design Process Stage model. Then, this paper also evaluates the model in both practical and theoretical aspects and shows that it is well-developed in both aspects. Finally, the perspective of further mechanical design automation research is outlined.

Abstract:A formal model called CoAuto (Cooperative Automaton) is proposed to describe and analyze cooperative processes. A basic CoAuto abstracts the behaviors of a single active entity. It separates data from control states and thus, can describe various cooperation scenarios (e.g. synchronous and asynchronous) by composition in a uniform yet flexible way. The composition can be done at two different levels (i.e. data sharing and action/control sharing) and thus, more complex cooperative process can be depicted. The paper details the structural elements of CoAuto and shows how to model cooperative processes in real world and analyze some basic properties (e.g. safety and liveness).

Abstract:Batch processing is common in mass manufacturing industries due to its high productivity, such as aerospace, semiconductor, and automotive. Based on the analysis of a Bernoulli production line consisting of a discrete machine and a batch machine, this paper investigates a general scenario of batch-batch lines. Utilizing a systems approach with theoretic and experimental analysis, the system properties, such as the monotonicity and reversibility, are analyzed, and the impact of batch size on the performance is studied. Based on them, continuous improvements of the batch-batch lines are explored which include constrained improvement and bottleneck analysis. This paper provides an effective method to analyze batch-batch manufacturing systems, which is also a building block for studying multi-machine systems.

Abstract:In batch process, operating conditions change to meet the requirements of market and customers. For different combinations of operating conditions, data based modeling process has to be repeated for the development of a new prediction model, if common process characteristics are ignored. Obviously, this is inefficient and uneconomical. Effective using and extraction of certain common process behaviors and characteristics can allow fewer numbers of experiments for the development of new process model, resulting in savings of time, cost and efforts. With this as the key objective, a modeling method is proposed for batch process modeling in this paper.

Abstract:This paper deals with control of multi-phase batch processes. The process in each cycle is formulated as a switched system with internally forced switching instants. In this formulation, there are two kinds of switching sequence: dynamics-switching-sequence and control-switching-sequence. The control problem is transformed into finding of the control-switching-sequence and the control signal between any two consequential points in the sequence. This problem is proposed to be decomposed into two subtasks: determining the control-switching-sequence by detecting the dynamics-switching-sequence and designing the control law by using iterative learning scheme. Challenges within this framework are discussed, and some possible solutions to these challenges are suggested.

Abstract:To realize intelligent automatic control of BF ironmaking process, automation groundwork and transmission of information by net were summarized, and some mathematical models were established based on intelligent control theory, including BF ironmaking process multi-object program model, intelligent prediction model and intelligent control partial differential equation of temperature in BF. After the expert system developed on those models used on No.1 BF at Laiwu Iron and Steel Group Co., the BF ironmaking process was optimized, the temperature in BF was precisely predicted online, process control parameters self-adjusted to make the temperature in BF trend to the best. The BF runs smoothly.

Statistical process monitoring (SPM) has shown to be effective in ensuring process safety and product consistency for batch processes. This paper presents a review of multivariate statistical modeling and monitoring for batch process applications. Based on analysis of the nature of batch processes, this paper reviews each key method in terms of its motivation, development, and application prospective. The review ends with the authors' personal views of challenges and future directions for the area.
