A High Flux Ultrafiltration Membrane with Multi-hydrophilic Particles Winding and Controlled Self-assembly of Micellar Particles

Abstract:In the fields of water treatment and biomedical applications, the high permeability, antibacterial, and antifouling capabilities of ultrafiltration membranes are crucial. In this study, a novel controllable self-assembled soft micelle particle based on the combination of tri-block-copolymers and dopamine hydrochloride is designed as a multifunctional additive. High molecular weight polyvinylpyrrolidone k85 is used as a pore forming agent and hydrophilic agent. Liquid-liquid phase transformation is used to modify the polyether sulfone membrane. The morphology and properties of the modified products and membranes are characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, laser confocal microscopy, water contact angle, permeability measurement, mechanical measurement, antifouling and antibacterial tests. Due to its overall electrically neutral receptor properties, the zwitterionic blend polyether sulfone ultrafiltration membrane has a higher water flux, water flux recovery rate, and BSA retention rate. The results show that the pure water flux of the modified membrane is as high as 422 m-2 h-1, and the rejection rate of bovine serum albumin is 97.83 %. It exhibits excellent water flux recovery rate and antifouling ability, and the modified membrane demonstrates effective antibacterial performance against Escherichia coli.
