Abstract:According to the characteristics of embedded development, the emulator-based debugger is designed adopting component-assembling technique which modularized all the components and reduced the coupling between debugger and emulator to enhance the compatibility for the emulators. The emulator-based debugger has the ability of debugging information storage and removing the coupling between the storage modules, and realizes the expendability of the debugging functions. In addition, conventional debugging techniques is reviewed, the ELF file format is introduced, and mainly focused on the principle, implementation and runtime performance of the proposed source-level debugger.

Abstract:A flexible and universal remote debugger can shorten the development cycle of embedded software and increase software quali- ty.But diversity of embedded chip and development environment increased design difficulty of remote debugger.This paper introduces two remote debug models used widely at present,analyzes their advantage and disadvantage.Considering model disadvantage,give improved method,and adopt modularization idea in software development to create a new debug model.Remote debugger based on the model can run in multi-environment,debug multi-target.The remote debugger is validated that it is a flexible and universal in project practice.

Abstract:In this paper, we first introduce some issues that are encountered in building a service debugger and briefly describe our approach to addressing them. Next, we outline some debugging modes and components of a simple composite debugger. Then, we mainly describe its message-based front-end and back-end, which are a co-existing, self-identifying, and non-intrusive. Finally, we preset some experimental results of our latest prototype.

Abstract:Software debugging plays an important role in the software development process. Traditional remote debuggers are allowed to use only serial port or ethernet connection to communicate with target. The data transfer rate of serial connection is slow. Ethernet connection needs ethernet card, but it is too large to be used on small embedded devices. For these reasons, we propose a model of remote debugger supporting multiple types of connection, such as serial port, ethernet, USB, Bluetooth and other debug channels to adapt to the diversity of embedded hardware environment. This model has better convenience, and the data transfer rate has been improved greatly than traditional remote debugger for embedded systems. © 2011 IEEE.

Abstract:In embedded systems, Flash is an often-used way of read-only memory. For all kinds of Flash online programming interface in the present industry,a general Flash online programming system is implemented in this paper by using the embedded debugging techniques. This system encapsulates the different Flash online programming details by defining specific Flash online programming driver. An Integrated Development Environment(IDE) based on Eclipse is at the top of the system, and in the background, the existing embedded debug tool is reused to achieve Flash online programming with the help of specific Flash driver running on the embedded target. In terms of use,this system presents a simple operation,strong visual software interface for Flash online programming,and in the aspect of function,major Flash in the industry can be online programming in this system,which implements the generality of Flash online programming.
Towards Automatically Reverse Engineering Vehicle Diagnostic Protocols

Abstract:In-vehicle protocols are very important to the security assessment and protection of modern vehicles since they are used in communicating with, accessing, and even manipulating ECUs (Electronic Control Units) that control various vehicle components. Unfortunately, the majority of in-vehicle protocols are proprietary without publicly available documents. Although recent studies proposed methods to reverse engineer the CAN protocol used in the communication among ECUs, they cannot be applied to vehicle diagnostics protocols, which have been widely exploited by attackers to launch remote attacks. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for automatically reverse engineering the diagnostic protocols of vehicles by leveraging professional diagnostic tools. Specifically, we design and develop a new cyber-physical system that uses a set of algorithms to control a programmable robotics arm with the aid of cameras to automatically trigger and capture the messages of diagnostics protocols as well as reverse engineer their formats, semantic meanings, and proprietary formulas required for processing the response messages. We perform a large-scale experiment to evaluate our prototype using 18 real vehicles. It successfully reverse engineers 570 messages (446 for reading sensor values and 124 for controlling components). The experimental results show that our framework achieves high precision in reverse engineering proprietary formulas and obtains much more messages than the prior approach based on app analysis.

Abstract:A system for distance monitoring and a seismic experiment controlling was introduced.This system was used to develop the method of a remote pseudo-dynamic test.A network communication platform NetSLab was needed to realize the remote control of the pseudo-dynamic test.Authors used Visual Basic developing the standard open-end single layer structural remote pseudo-dynamic test platform.The pseudo-dynamic test was remotely executed using this program.The application of the program was verified well by test results.

Abstract:Parallel debugger is crucial for improving the efficiency of parallel programming development. Parallel debugging interface is the basis of parallel debugging. This paper puts forward a parallel debugger design method of a new interactive, Internet-oriented, extensible parallel debugger framework based on the research of a number of parallel debugging interfaces' design methods and advantages and disadvantages analysis, and gives a careful implementation of a new parallel debugging interface in this new parallel debugger framework. In this framework users can execute debugging job remotely. The debugging back-end servers are deployed in clusters with various remote debugging details transparent to users. Tests showed that the parallel debugging interface designed in this paper not only properly meets the needs of user's debugging requirement, but also have a good time performance. Under the test circumstances, it took about 11 seconds to startup 256 remote parallel debugging processes on 3 computing nodes.

Abstract:A new design method for embedded debug interface is presented.Designers can reuse JTAG standard serial port to monitor,trace,and profile the execution of the programs running on an embedded microprocessor.By using pipeline shadow registers and special data path in debug interface circuit,scan chain is no longer needed to insert in the critical path of CPU to facilitate non-intrusive debug capability.To improve data transmission rate of JTAG interface,instruction register and related control logic are redesigned.JTAG proxy debug protocol is also illustrated in JTAG protocol converter implementation to facilitate the porting of debug tools.The solution has been proven by silicon,and debug interface is successfully implemented in CK510 platform.

Abstract:In this paper we describe the debugger design, which is based on GDB and with hybrid architecture of Superscalar and VLIW double-mode.The debugger design is divided into two parts, the proxy debugging side and the client.The proxy debugging side realises the RSP ( remote serial protocol )-based basic debugging proxy function, and the client side realises the target processor adding, debugger initialisation, and the processing of registers data and opcodes, etc.Test results demonstrate that this debugger achieves the program debugging functions such as remote debugging, checking, modifying the values of registers and memories, adding and deleting breakpoints, disassembly, checking stack information and single stepping, etc.

Abstract:In the past several years, we are all the witness of complex multi-core processors' growing. In the meanwhile, more and more engineers and researchers dedicate to multi-core processor program development. Debug isan essential part in most of program development and efficient debugging can fix the bugs in development more quickly.It is hard for a GDB session to debug multiply cores at the same time like the traditional debugging way, especially, debugging heterogeneous multi-core processor. This paper puts forward a multi-port embedded debugger agent for heterogeneous multi-core ASIP (Application Specific Instruction-set Processor) debugging. The multi-port debugger agent will bind numbers of IP ports and each port corresponds to a core in ASIP, therefore each debugger host can debug corresponding core independently and remotely via TCPat the same time. The construction of debugger agent includes 3 sections: RSP processing part, monitorand JTAG (Joint Test Action Group)[1]driver.RSP processing and monitor are made up with multiply threads. Monitor is a single thread, and the RSP processing part's thread number should be the same as the core number which you want to debug. The communication between debugger agent and debugger host is based on RSP, which is mean debugger agent is compatible with GDB, the most popular C and C++ debugger.Each core in ASIP is independent, that means it has its own program memory, data memory and register memory. Meanwhile, every core can access others' memories for data sharing.Every debugger host can load binary program, setting breakpoints, single stepping, reading data from register and memory and monitoring status of the core etc. for the core it supported.User can debug heterogeneous multi-core ASIP like debugging other general purpose processor. Multi-port debuggeragent is simple, reliable and efficient method for debugging heterogeneous multi-core ASIP.
