Abstract:Organotin have caused more and more serious environmental problems due to their biological toxicity. However, because of the variety and complexity of organotin, analysis process of organotin from complex environmental matrices is very challenging. This article briefly introduces the current development of analytical methods for organotin, and several ways to extract, derive, purify organotin from water, sediment, organism and other environmental matrices, of which solid phase extraction and solid?phase microextraction are usually used in water samples, while ultrasonic extraction and microwave extraction in sediment samples and biological samples. In addition, detection techniques are especially introduced, including gas chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography and so on. At last, the development trend of organotin analysis in the future is discussed.

Abstract:Solid phase micro-extraction(SPME) is a new sample pretreatment technique,which developed at the end of 1980s.Because of many its advantages,such as simple and rapid operation,high sensitivity,easy automation,and without using toxic organic solvent,this method has been extensively applied to analyze organic pollutants in environment,food and medicament samples.In this paper,SPME technique and analytical characteristics of organotins were simply introduced,and the application of SPME for organotins analysis in environment samples,such as water,wine,body fluid,sediment and biological samples,were reviewed.According to the recent development of SPME study,it is believed that this technique will be widely used in many fields of chemical analysis.

Abstract:The extraction of six tetraalkyltin and seven ionic organotin compounds from spiked topsoil samples with supercritical carbon dioxide and carbon dioxide modified with 5 percent methanol was investigated. Analysis of the soil extracts was performed by gas chromatography with atomic emission detection. Retention times, minimum detectable concentrations, and detector linear ranges are included for nine organotin compounds (seven of the nine compounds were derivatized with n-pentylmagnesium bromide prior to gas chromatographic analysis). A 23 factorial experimental design was used to study the effect of three variables (pressure, temperature, and extraction time) on compound recovery. The results indicate that the tetraalkyltin compounds are extracted from topsoil samples with recoveries ranging from 90 to 110 percent. Recoveries for the ionic organotin compounds ranged from 50 to 75 percent for trimethyltin chloride, triethyltin bromide, and tributyltin iodide; they were below 20 percent for dimethyltin dichloride, dibutyltin dichloride, diphenyltin dichloride, and butyltin trichloride. When sodium diethyldithiocarbamate was added to the soil samples prior to extraction, followed by extraction with carbon dioxide modified with 5 percent methanol, recoveries ranged from 70 to 90 percent for trimethyltin chloride, triethyltin bromide, dimethyltin dichloride, tributyltin iodide, and dibutyltin dichloride; recoveries were approximately 40 percent for butyltin trichloride and diphenyltin dichloride.

Abstract:On-line solid phase extraction (SPE) coupled to the high performance liquid chromatography was applied for the determination of tetraphenyltin (TrPhT), tetraethyltin (TrET), and tetrabutyltin (TrBT) in water samples. Organotin compounds (OTs) were on-line enriched on an Agilent C-18 short column, separated in the isocratic mode on an Agilent C-8 column. The mobile phase of methanol/water (V/V, 90/10) (0.05% trifluoroacetic acid) at flow rate of 1 ml/min was used. Under the experimental conditions, the detection limits of TrPhT, TrET and TrBT are 1.7, 7.3 and 7.3 mu g/L, respectively. The quantitative extraction of three organotin compounds was achieved with recoveries ranging from 80.8% to 90.1%, and the relative standard derivation ranging from 2.9% to 9.3%. The results obtained by the proposed method are satisfactory for the determination of OTs in water samples.

Abstract:The organotins in spirit were derivatized with NaBEt4 and five derivatives were extracted by liquid-liquid extraction technique and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometric(GC-MS) analysis.A new method to simultaneously study the five derivatives was proposed.The qualitative and quantitative analysis of organotins was carried out by GC-MS in SIM mode.The significant factors in the experiment were optimized.The experiment parameters concerned GC separation program,sodium tetraethylborate concentration,type and volume of extraction solvent,extraction time,pH and salting out effect were optimized.Under the optimized conditions,the considerable linearties and recoveries of the organotins were obtained.The results showed the good linearity when the analytical concentration was in the range of 0.01-4.0 μg·mL-1,the linearity correlation coefficients were between 0.992 3 and 0.999 9,with the LOD in the range of 0.4-5.0 μg·L-1.The average recoveries for organotins at three different addition levels were between 68.4% and 121.0%,relative standard deviations in the range of 5.0%-13.4%、4.3%-10.6% and 4.3%-8.9% respectively.The method is proposed in this paper simple,rapid,and easy to implement for the determination of organotins in spirit.

Abstract:A method based on low-temperature high-pressure extraction device with gas chromatographymass spectrometry(GC-MS)has been developed for the simultaneous determination of three organotin compounds(OTCs)including dibutyltin(DBT),tributyltin(TBT),and triphenyltin(TPhT).With the application of low-temperature high-pressure extraction device,the critical parameters including the way of pretreatment,type of extraction solvent,the ration of water sample and extraction solvent were optimized.Under the optimized conditions,the developed analytical procedure was sensitive with good linearity,the detection limits of three OTCs were 0.34,0.41and 0.20g·L-1,respectively.The obtained recoveries of the analytes at three different addition levels ranged from 74.1%to 100.5%,providing the precision of between 4.7%and 9.1%.Due to its simplicity,reliability and low-cost,the method is appropriate to be used in routine laboratories for monitoring of OTC in water samples.

Abstract:In this work, a simple, sensitive and affordable analytical method for the simultaneous determination of nine organotin compounds (butyltins, phenyltins and methyltins) in seawater using solid-phase extraction (SPE) and gas chromatography-pulsed flame photometric detection was developed and validated. The performance of three different SPE cartridges (Envi C18, Oasis HLB and Oasis MCX) and three elution solvents of different polarity (hexane, methanol and acetonitrile) was evaluated. The extraction parameters, such as solvent volume, presence of complexing and ion-pairing reagents, sample volume and pH and breakthrough volume, were also investigated. Tributyltin, as the organotin compound of special interest, was efficiently extracted using any of the cartridges and solvents tested. However, the simultaneous extraction of all nine organotin compounds was the most efficient using reversed-phase Envi C18 cartridge and 0.1% (w/v) tropolone in methanol as eluent. The optimised method resulted in good recovery, precision and linearity for all compounds, particularly for tri- and disubstituted species. Method detection limits ranged from 0.22 to 1.27 ng(Sn) L−1 for butyltins, 0.37 to 4.91 ng(Sn) L−1 for phenyltins and 0.45 to 1.16 ng(Sn) L−1 for methyltins. The accuracy of butyltins determination was further verified by the comparison with purchased derivatised standards. The developed method was successfully applied to the environmental samples.

Abstract:Considerable numbers of organotin compounds, which are widely used in people's lives, have serious toxic effects to human health. In this paper, a simple, low-cost method for the simultaneous determination of four organotins in plant oil samples by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) has been established for the first time. The method uses dispersive-solid phase extraction (d-SPE) clean-up after a low-temperature precipitation procedure, in situ derivatization with NaBEt4 and liquid-liquid extraction (LLE). The relevant experimental variables influencing the whole results were optimized; a good accuracy and precision were attained under the optimal conditions. The average recoveries obtained for analytes were in the range of 75.6-114.9% with a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 3.9-12.6%, and the limits of detection for each organotin ranged between 0.19 and 0.33 mu g kg(-1). Finally, these four organotins in different oil samples were detected using this method, which demonstrated the feasibility of our developed method in this study.

Abstract:A simple and efficient method for the determination of organotin compounds (OTCs) in biota by GC-MS coupling with sodium tetraethylborate (NaBEt4) derivatization was established. The results showed that recoveries for each OTCs spiked in blank freeze-dryed biological samples (0.1 g) following extraction (15 mL 0.035 mol/L methanolic HCl solution for 1 h) and derivatization (2 mL contained internal standard n-hexane and 0.5 mL of 2% (m/V) NaBEt4 solution for 30 min) were above 80%. The method is fast and easy to operate for the determination of OTCs in complex biological samples. The minimum limit of detection was about 0.01 mu g/L, and relative standard deviation values were within 10% for three parallel samples.

Abstract:A new method was established for the simultaneous determination of trimethyltin (TMT),diphe-nyltin (DPhT),dibutyltin (DBT),triphenyltin (TPhT)and tributyltin (TBT)in hairtail by liquid chroma-tography-tandem mass spectrometry.The separation of five organotin compounds was achieved on ZORB-AX Eclipse plus C18 column with gradient elution using mixture of ammonium formate solution at pH 2.1 (adjusted with formic acid)and methanol.The flow rate was 0.3 mL/min.The detection was operated in the positive ion mode using multiple reaction monitoring.Five organotin compounds all represent good line-arity in the selected concentration range,with correlation coefficients in the range of 0.9943-0.9998.The detection limits of TMT,DPhT,DBT,TPhT and TBT were 300,140,140,1,1 ng·mL-1 ,respectively.Un-der optimized conditions,the average recoveries were ranged from 64.7% to 96.9%,with RSDs from 0.7%to 10.4%,respectively.

Abstract:Freeze-dried biological samples used for the determination of organotin compounds (OTCs) involve complicated or tedious pretreatment (e.g., freeze-drying) that may result in loss of analyst or contamination. In the present study, a rapid and accurate method for determination of five kinds of OTCs—monobutyltin (MBT), dibutyltin (DBT), tributyltin (TBT), diphenyltin (DPhT) and triphenyltin (TPhT) in fresh biota samples—was developed and further compared with freeze-dried tissues. It involved a sample preparation method of simultaneous extraction and purification of OTCs in fresh biological samples, which was developed with ultrasonic cell disruption and primary secondary amine (PSA) adsorption, and followed by two-phase (organic solvent and cell membrane phases) derivatization before the analysis by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. The extraction efficiency from biota matrices was relatively better with the acetate/acetic acid and tropolone into methanol as extraction agents and primary secondary amine as grease-removing agents. The retention of cell membrane-like materials as well as 25% of ethyl acetate as co-extraction reagents used after centrifugation improved the targeted OTCs’ recoveries. The proposed method, under the optimal condition, has shown satisfactory performance in wet biological samples. The limits of detection obtained were less than 10 ng Sn g−1 ww (wet weight) for all analytes. Spiked recoveries were within the range 89–118% and the relative standard deviations were less than 7% (n = 5) when quantified by matrix-matched calibration curves. Finally, the applicability of this new method was further verified by comparing the results from wet and freeze-dried oyster tissues collected from two coastal cities in China.

Abstract:Most organotin compounds,which have been widely used in food packaging materials and production process show serious toxicity effects on human health.A high content of fat brought large matrix interference to the analysis and detection of edible vegetable oil.Methanol was selected as the extraction solvent,and the edible vegetable oil in low temperature was easily solidified.A simple and low-cost method based on high performance Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry for the simultaneous determination of four organotins in edible vegetable oil samples was developed.Four organotins including dibutyltin dichloride,tributyltin chloride,diphenyltin dichloride and triphenyltin chloride were simultaneously extracted with methanol using the low-temperature precipitation process.After being concentrated,the extracts were purified by matrix solid-phase dispersion using graphitized carbon black.Ethanol,methanol,and acetonitrile were investigated to extract organotins from edible vegetable oil samples.The recoveries of the four organotins extracted by liquid-liquid extraction and freezing extraction were also compared.The proposed method is comparable to,or even an improvement on the current national standard and related research.The adsorption abilities of some materials including primary secondary amine,alumina N,florisil,and graphitized carbon black were also studied.In order to evaluate the accuracy of the new method,the recovery was investigated.The ranges in the recoveries for the four organotins present at three levels ranged from 74.2％to 99.5％.Current work is comparable or better than those of national standards and the reported methods.The results show that the sample preparation method enables the simultaneous determination of the four organotins in peanut oil,soybean oil,corn oil,rape oil and edible blended oil samples.

Abstract:Organotin compounds (OTCs) are widely regulated but rank among the most used organometallic compounds in various industrial sectors. They are significantly more toxic than inorganic tin compounds. At workplaces, OTCs can be released as vapors or dust particles and can be absorbed by inhalation or skin contact. Occupational exposure thus represents a great risk for the absorption of OTCs for employees. Methods for OTCs speciation in workplace air monitoring currently do not exist. This study describes the development of a separation method for eleven in Germany regulated OTCs via HPLC-ICP-MS. The method allows a near baseline separation of MMT, MBT, MOT, MPhT, DMT, DBT, DPhT, TMT, TBT, TPhT and TTMT within 22 minutes on a C18 column and a ternary solvent and flow rate gradient using methanol, acetonitrile, and ultrapure water + 6 % (v/v) acetic acid + 0.17 % (m/v) α-tropolone. Ten analytes show linearity in the working range of 10 - 100 μg OTCs/L with R2 > 0.999. Due to its high volatility the analyte TTMT showed a quadratic relationship between concentration and signal intensity with R2 = 0.9998. The determination of the instrumental limits resulted in detection limits between 0.14 and 0.57 μg Sn/L and limits of quantification between 0.49 and 1.97 μg Sn/L. Over the course of this study thermal instability and cross reactivity of OTC in solution became apparent. Formation of two reaction products in mixed OTCs solutions have been observed. These effects will further be examined within development of appropriate sampling and sample preparation for workplace air to provide a suitable method for the determination of OTCs at workplaces according to normative references.

Abstract:Most organotin compounds that have been widely used in food packaging materials and production process show serious toxicity effects to human health. In this study, a simple and low-cost method based on high-performance liquid chromatography with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry for the simultaneous determination of four organotins in edible vegetable oil samples was developed. Four organotins including dibutyltin dichloride, tributyltin chloride, diphenyltin dichloride, and triphenyltin chloride were simultaneously extracted with methanol using the low-temperature precipitation process. After being concentrated, the extracts were purified by matrix solid-phase dispersion using graphitized carbon black. The experimental parameters such as extraction solvent and clean-up material were optimized. To evaluate the accuracy of the new method, the recoveries were investigated. In addition, a liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry method was also proposed for comparison. The procedures of extracting and purifying samples for the analysis were simple and easy to perform batch operations, also showed good efficiency with lower relative standard deviation. The limits of detection of the four organotins were 0.28-0.59 mu g/L, and the limits of quantification of the four organotins were 0.93-1.8 mu g/L, respectively. The proposed method was successfully applied to the simultaneous analysis of the four organotins in edible vegetable oil. Some analytes were detected at the level of 2.5-28.8 mu g/kg.

Abstract:Principles and properties of headspace technology in gas chromatogram is introduced, applicability of headspace method is discussed with examples. Headspace analysis technology has many advantages such as simple sample pretreatment, avoidance of liquid phase matrix interference, uneasy to pollute or damage the chromatogram column, sensitivity in detection and so on, which is especially suitable to be used for high volatile, high gas liquid phase distribution ratio substances; and raise the inorganic salt concentration in water phase, and obviously raise the response value of the determined substances. But headspace technology is not suitable for heterogeneous phase sample in latex state. When this technology is used to detect trace of perfluoroisobutylene (PFIB), detection limit can reach to 0.04 mg/m3.

Abstract:The HPLC coupled with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) was applied for the determination of tributyltin chloride (TBT), triphenyltin chloride (TPhT), triethyltin chloride (TET) in textile and plastic samples. The separation was performed in the isocratic mode on ion exchange SCX column with a mobile phase containing methanol-ammonium acetate (50 mmol l(-1))-acetic acid (90/9.98/0.02, v/v/v). Sensitive detection of three organotin compounds by ESI-MS was performed on the basis of multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode. Limits of detection were 0.4, 20, 4 ng ml(-1) for TBT, TPhT, and TET, respectively. Microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) of organotin compounds was finished in 60% (v/v) methanol aqueous solution. Under the experimental conditions used, recoveries of three organotin compounds obtained for spiked textile and plastic samples are in the range of 55-95% and the R.S.D.s are 3-9%.
