Abstract:Aiming at the problem that the energy recovery effect of hybrid pneumatic engine based on single stage energy storage system de-creased with the increase of the pressure of the air tank, double stage energy storage system was used into hybrid pneumatic engine, the view-point that the COP ( coefficient of performance) could be improved by changing the inlet pressure was drawn preliminary. Based on the theory of variable mass thermodynamics, a mathematical model of compressed air circulation which was verified by testbed was established. Through the steady state simulation of the model, the influence of inlet pressure and air tank pressure on compressing braking process were obtained. The results indicate that the change of inlet pressure and the air tank pressure affect the quality of the recycled compressed air per circulation linearly. the ratio of air tank pressure and inlet pressure is a key factor affecting the COP which will decrease when the ratio increases.

Abstract:A vehicle model by using the software-ADAMS(Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical System) was builded,and introduces the principles which the ADAMS/Car(one of the professional modules of ADAMS) used to realize control and analyze.Based on this,the author did the steering wheel impulse input test by using ADAMS/Car,and analyzed the results.The virtual experiment system is created by using the virtual—reality software package WTK under VC compiling environment.By applying the emulation curve obtained by ADAMS to drive the motorcar model in the system,the whole dynamic emulation virtual test system is realized and this provides a new method to evaluate the operation stability of vehicles.

Abstract:Based on the widely used air-hydraulic brake system,an exam scheme was put forward,which eliminated all kinds of disadvantageous factors.On a loader with this brake system,contrast experiments were carried out.Experimental results showed that the air-hydraulic brake system was a strong overdamped system.All kinds of damping holes prolonged the response time of this system and should be eliminated possibly.To reduce the damping ratio,the length of the conduits should be reduced and the inside diameter should be enlarged.The brake fluid with big Young's modulus should be used and must be degased and dehumidified.Enlarging the return spring constant of the brake cylinder could reduce the damping ratio and increase the natural vibration frequency,thereby the brake performance was improved.However,the tightening of the return spring may reduce the brake power effectively.

Abstract:The controller of high pressure reduction with expander pneumatic system was researched.A high-pressure pneumatic system experimental table was set up.MSP430 ultra-low power consumption chip was adopted as the MCU of the controller inorder to adapt to the limited power supply and working space on the compressed air powered vehicles(CAPV).The experimental Research was done about the predictive PID control of high pressure reduction with expander pneumatic system. Experimental results indicate that can supply stable output pressure,and pressure variation of air supply has little effect to the stable of output pressure.Application tests on the CAPV indicate that pressure reduction with expander system satisfies the requirements of the CAPV in function.

Abstract:The vehicle-generated road damage can be effectively reduced when the relevant parameters of hydro-pneumatic suspension in engineering vehicles are tuned reasonably. Multi-body dynamics model with ADAMS, hydraulic system model with AMESim and spectra of road surface roughness model with Simulink were established based on 4-DOF signal-axis vehicle model with consideration of the nonlinear characteristic of accumulator, fluid resistance, check valve and pipeline in the system. "95 percentage fourth power aggregate force" was used as the criterion for road-friendliness and co-simulation was achieved. The relation between road-friendliness and relevant parameters of interconnected hydro-pneumatic suspension was analyzed through co-simulation. In certain extent, the road damage coefficient first decreased and then increased with the increase of the initial pressure of accumulator and the diameter of damper hole in suspension cylinder. The road damage coefficient decreased with the increase of the total volume of accumulator and the inner diameter of pipe. The length of pipe had little influence on the road damage coefficient.

Abstract:In order to analyze and control radiated noise induced by the powertrain system of automobile, acoustic transfer vector algorithm was applied for the structural acoustic radiation simulation of the powertrain system. Taking drive axles as examples, acoustic responses, such as radiation pressure, the field point sound pressure level of the drive axle were calculated with this algorithm. An experimental investigation was performed in the drive axle test rig by comparison of numerical and experimental results to enable an assessment of the accuracy level. Experimental results indicate that virtual prediction data agree well with test data. It shows that this simulation method based on acoustic transfer vector algorithm has excellent reliability to predict vibro-acoustic performance of the powertrain system to pre-determined design targets, and it is a reliable method which is applied to structural vibro-acoustic analysis in the process of automobile product design.

Abstract:Frame is an important truck part to connect and support engine, transmission, carriage and cab etc. It is important to analyze strength, stiffness and dynamic characteristics for frame design. This paper developed static analysis of a specific agricultural truck frame under two conditions of full load bending and reverse. The corresponding suggestions of structural modification were proposed. Then the dynamic response of truck frame caused by the external incentives was studied, namely harmonic response analysis and transient dynamic analysis. The paper not only analyzed whether the truck frame met the strength requirements, but also proposed the corresponding solutions for the possible cases of fatigue fracture and stress overloaded of the frame.

Abstract:A transient emission measurement system with VMAS is set up. The advantages, components and theory of VMAS are introduced. Twenty tests were made when the experimental vehicle was running in the best emission condition. In this paper, the system's stability is discussed based on test results. The VMAS' stability is great, and the data detected with VMAS can reflect the real situation of vehicle emissions. Then the importances are discussed about adoption the VMAS testing method for emission inspection of in-use petrol vehicles in China.

Abstract:The vehicle industry is currently developing toward using new ecologically-friendly energy. Although the energy density of compressed air is not high, it is very ecologically friendly and can be used as a power source to drive vehicles. Therefore, it should still have application prospects in some specific applications. The purpose of this paper is to fill the gap in the research field of high torque CAE for a large vehicle and explore the application possibility of CAE in the field of new energy vehicles for public transportation. A four-stroke six-cylinder high torque CAE (Compressed Air Engine) was proposed. The calculation model of this CAE was constructed, the dynamic characteristics were theoretically analyzed, a prototype engine was manufactured and tested on the engine bench system, and the on-road test of the bus equipped with CAE was carried out. The results show that CAE has the characteristics of obtaining more significant torque at low speed. The bench test results of torque and power are in line with the changing trend of CAE dynamic performance predicted by calculation. When the inflation pressure of the prototype is 10 MPa, and the rotational speed is 650 r/min, the effective torque can reach 1032.48 N m. The CAE bus runs very stably during the on-road test. It can maintain a 60–80 km range with a load of 18 tons and a maximum speed of 69 km/h. The research of this paper can show that the compressed air engine with high power output shows excellent characteristics from theoretical analysis to vehicle tests. It is possible to use CAE to drive vehicles in new energy public transportation in the future.

Study on energy system of compressed air powered car

Abstract:The energy system was composed of a high-pressure air source, a depressurization control unit, an air-powered engine and some auxiliary devices. Theoretical analysis and digital simulation were applied to determine the power consumption in a high-pressure air generating process and the energy loss in a de-pressurization operating process. The new expander depressurization method put forward here uses compressed air to power a car. The factors influencing air intake and air exhaust in the compressed-air engine powered car were presented and analyzed and the auxiliary means to enhance the system efficiency were also discussed. Some concluding results show that the multi-stage polytropic compressing process is a suitable energy saving method to generate high-pressure air; and that the expander can save about 10%-35% in contrast to the throttle regulator in pressure reducing process.

Abstract:A series of motor bench and non-motorized experiments conducted at the Department of Engines and Hybrid Power Plants of NTU "KhPI" showed the high efficiency of local air cooling of heat-stressed parts of internal combustion engines, in particular, parts of the exhaust valve assembly of the gas distribution mechanism in an automated mode. However, in the tests carried out, a stationary air compressor powered by a ~220 V mains was used with air accumulation in a large-capacity cylinder. The implementation of a local cooling system on power plants, mainly powerful trucks, requires the inclusion in the automatic control system of autonomous cooling, a pneumatic compressor installed on the vehicle with an electric drive, powered by the on-board power supply and accumulating air in a receiver with compact dimensions. A review of design solutions and analysis of the component composition of pneumatic systems of autotractor vehicles was carried out. The requirements for the quality and safety of pneumatic systems of vehicles and their elements are considered. The technical characteristics of air compressors are presented. The scheme of the pneumatic system of local multi-circuit cooling on autotractor diesel parts has been chosen. On the example of the selected air compressor with an electric drive Maximum Performance 24V from ARB (Australia), estimates were made of the operating time up to a working pressure in the receiver of 10 bar. The electrical load on the 24 V on-board network of the vehicle was determined in the form of an average current consumption per filling cycle. The maximum current consumption by the compressor is determined, the current consumption per hour is estimated under the condition of a proportional alternation of the cycles of filling the receiver and emptying it.

Abstract:In the past decade, compressed air vehicles have attracted much attention because of their zero pollution, high efficiency, environmental friendliness and relative maturity. To further explore the potential of compressed air technology in vehicles, three-stage and four-stage compressed air engine systems are optimized in present study by analyzing the energy and exergy distribution from a technological viewpoint. Their characteristics are compared in terms of shaft work, coolth, overall efficiency, and exergy distribution. Stage expansion ratios differ under maximum work output. The shaft work and coolth of both systems are increased with the increase of working pressure, turbine inlet temperature, or stage efficiency. Three-stage compressed air engine systems have a lower work output and coolth than four-stage compressed air engine systems at given operation condition. The overall efficiencies of these two systems are comparable to those of conventional diesel engines and fuel cell vehicles. Exergy losses of the two systems are composed by the exergy loss in the turbines, heat exchangers, and exits. The analyses suggest that increasing the number of stages, improving stage efficiency, and utilizing coolth to reduce the exergy loss in heat exchangers are effective ways to decrease the total exergy loss and improve the work output and overall efficiency of the compressed air engine systems.

Preliminary Study on Compressed Air Powertrain of a Rescue Vehicle for Mine Accidents

Abstract:This paper investigates the feasibility of applying a compressed air powertrain to mine rescue vehicles, which require strict explosion-proof and flame-proof characteristics. Based on both simulation and preliminary tests of a single-cylinder air-powered engine prototype, the concept of compressed air powertrain for a rescue vehicle is proposed. Compared to conventional internal combustion engines, the exhaust emissions of the proposed air-powered engine concept are innoxious and its gas temperature is very low, which guarantees the safety and explosion-proof requirements. Preliminary selection and matching of both a transmission and final gear reduction are carried out, considering vehicle traction and air consumption performance characteristics. Simulation results show that given properly designed drivetrain gear ratios, the air-powered rescue vehicle can reach a speed of 7 km/h with gear 1 on a 30% slope road. Compared to current products, its feasibility in driving mileage and traction performance are further confirmed.
Development of a Rotary Screw Compressor for Electric Truck Air Brake and Suspension System

Abstract:This article describes the development of a low-cost rotary screw compressor technology to meet the requirements of a mini air compressor application for electric vehicle (EV) air brake and suspension systems. An existing rotor profile and size was initially used to build an "Alpha" compressor prototype. This was tested to provide data for analysis and numerical simulation to determine a smaller rotor size, rotor profile, and more efficient overall package for hybrid/EV air brake and suspension applications. From the "Alpha" prototype testing and analysis, the author identified the root causes of lower energy efficiency. To address these deficiencies and develop a foundation for an optimized solution for the intended application, the author developed a clean sheet design. A smaller diameter rotor set with high tip speed was developed using parameter calculations, working process simulation, and prototype test data analysis. By incorporating an innovative J-profile rotor screw lobe design, "VMAC" created a set of small rotary screw rotors that are optimized for a reduced air delivery rate, high-pressure ratio, and compact size while achieving a high energy efficiency target. Through testing, the compressor has proven to significantly save energy compared with the other compressor technologies. Endurance testing results prove that the developed compressor maintains the high-reliability advantage of the screw compressor technology. The compressor development has utility in electric buses and electric trucks due to its high-pressure capability that supplies high energy density to allow for smaller pressurized air tanks and a boost mode for rapid air recharge.

Abstract:Recently safety systems for commercial vehicles have been developed rapidly. However, there are still many problems in the vehicle stability and the braking performance. In particular, a commercial vehicle may meet a dangerous braking condition when the vehicle is lightly loaded or empty and when the road is wet or slippery. Under these conditions, the truck can spin out, the tractor can jackknife or the trailer can swing out. To design an air brake system for a commercial vehicle, since the air brake system has many design variables, there must be intense research on a method on how to prevent dynamic instability and how to maximize vehicle deceleration. In this study, mathematical models of the tractor-semitrailer and the air brake system including an antilock brake system controller have been constructed for computer simulation. Also, simcopy IMple examples are applied to show the usefulness of the program. Designers can use this simulation program for understanding the braking characteristics such as trajectory, braking distance, longitudinal deceleration, lateral deceleration and yaw rate under various braking conditions.

Abstract:Braking energy recovery can significantly contribute to fuel economy and emission reduction, particularly for commercial vehicles driving in urban environment. By using the compressed air storage, rather than expensive and vulnerable batteries, this paper proposes a pneumatic hybrid system with an integrated compressor/expander unit (CEU) for commercial vehicles, in order to achieve stop/start function and braking energy recovery. During braking, the compressed air is recovered by CEU working in compressor mode and is charged to the air tanks. When the vehicle starts from stop, the CEU works as an expander to crank the engine with compressed air. The compressed air can also be used to supply the air tank of brake boost system, thus reducing its energy consumption. The mathematical models of energy conversion units, including the two modes of CEU and the air brake system, are established and analyzed. A preliminary case study of an urban bus application shows that, in an urban driving cycle, the compressed air recovered from braking is sufficient both for engine cranking and air brake system. Together with the achieved stop/start function of the pneumatic hybrid concept, the total fuel consumption can be reduced by 5.3%, compared to the conventional vehicle case.

Abstract:he failure phenomenon of coupling and universal-joint trunnion had often taken place since they were put in production. The static load strength and fatigue strength of main components were tested and analyzed in the ANSYS software. In order to deal with this failure problem, dynamics and kinematics emulation of drive system without damper was made to find the reason for his failure problem. An improvement program for the drive shafts was put forward. This paper provides theoretical basis for the design and production of tracked vehicles’ drive shafts.

Abstract:Aiming at its extra vibration problem and operation instability,the BX32 type reciprocating compressor was transformed.The structure of the reciprocating compressor was analyzed by the finite element analysis(FEA) and vibration theory,and the result shows that the resonance of support beams is the main factor of the welding seam breakage of the buffer vessel and vibration of the compressor.The reciprocating compressor's support part was re-design,which gets sound effets on the industrial applications.
