Abstract:The combustion behaviors of sewage sludge, rice husk and their mixture were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis. Besides, the cementitious properties of the co-combustion ash of sewage sludge and rice husk (CRS) were compared to that of sewage sludge ash (SSA). The experimental results show that the blending of sewage sludge with rice husk leads to the increase in the burnout profiles of the fuel and the enhancement in the stability of the combustion process. The pozzolanic activity of CRS is much higher than that of SSA, leading to the formation of more additional hydration products in CRS-based blended systems. The matrix of CRS-based blended systems is filled with more hydration products resulting in excellent mechanical properties. The compressive strength of blended system with 40 wt% CRS is comparable to that of pure cement system at 72 days and nearly 200% higher than that of blended system with 40 wt% SSA.
