Abstract:In this paper,we use the elementary number theory methods the combination analysis and C++ program to get the solutions of the equation φ(n)=S(n10),and a result is proved that the equation has only positive integer solutions n=1.Here for any positive integer n,let φ(n) and S(n) denote the Euler function and the Smarandache function of the integer.

Abstract:For any positive integer n, the famous pseudo Smarandache function Z(n) is defined as the smallest positive integer m such that n | m(m+1)/2. The number theory function D(n) is defined as the smallest positive integer m such that n divides d(1)d(2)…d(m), where d(n) is the Dirichlet divisor function. The main purpose of this paper is using the elementary method and the properties of the pseudo Smarandache function Z(n) and number theory function D(n) to study the solvability of the equation 2Z(n) = D(n), and obtain its all positive integer solutions.

Abstract:We consider a variety of Euler’s sum of powers conjecture, i.e., whether the Diophantine system $$\left\{{\matrix{{n = {a_1} + {a_2} + \ldots + {a_{s - 1}},} \hfill \cr {{a_1}{a_2} \ldots {a_{s - 1}}({a_1} + {a_2} + \ldots + {a_{s - 1}}) = {b^s}} \hfill \cr}} \right.$$ has positive integer or rational solutions n, b, aj, i = 1, 2, …, s − 1, s ⩾ 3. Using the theory of elliptic curves, we prove that it has no positive integer solution for s = 3, but there are infinitely many positive integers n such that it has a positive integer solution for s ⩾ 4. As a corollary, for s ⩾ 4 and any positive integer n, the above Diophantine system has a positive rational solution. Meanwhile, we give conditions such that it has infinitely many positive rational solutions for s ⩾ 4 and a fixed positive integer n.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the diophantine equation σ_2(n)-n^2=An+B. We prove that except for finitely many computable solutions, all the solutions to this equation with (A,B)=(L_2m,F_2m^2-1) are n=F_2k+1F_2k+2m+1, where both F_2k+1 and F_2k+2m+1 are Fibonacci primes. Meanwhile, we show that the twin primes conjecture holds if and only if the equation σ_2(n)-n^2=2n+5 has infinitely many solutions.

Abstract:We consider a variety of Euler's conjecture, i.e., whether the Diophantine system n=a_1+a_2+⋯+a_s-1, a_1a_2⋯ a_s-1(a_1+a_2+⋯+a_s-1)=b^s has solutions n,b,a_i∈ℤ^+,i=1,2,…,s-1,s≥ 3. By using the theory of elliptic curves, we prove that it has no solutions n,b,a_i∈ℤ^+ for s=3, but for s=4 it has infinitely many solutions n,b,a_i∈ℤ^+ and for s≥ 5 there are infinitely many polynomial solutions n,b,a_i∈ℤ[t_1,t_2,…,t_s-3] with positive value satisfying this Diophantine system.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the equations involving Euler's totient function $\phi$ and Lucas type sequences. In particular, we prove that the equation $\phi (x^m-y^m)=x^n-y^n$ has no solutions in positive integers $x, y, m, n$ except for the trivial solutions $(x, y, m , n)=(a+1, a, 1, 1)$, where $a$ is a positive integer, and the equation $\phi ((x^m-y^m)/(x-y))=(x^n-y^n)/(x-y)$ has no solutions in positive integers $x, y, m, n$ except for the trivial solutions $(x, y, m , n)=(a, b, 1, 1)$, where $a, b$ are integers with $a>b\ge 1$.

Abstract:We define an S function as the sum of the asymptotic error terms of digamma function of an arithmetic series, $S(a) \equiv \sum_{n=1}^\infty \left[\ln\frac{n}{a} - \frac{a}{2n}-\psi\left(\frac{n}{a}\right)\right]$, and show a few properties of it. Using the S function, we construct a real and positive $\phi$ function. Riemann hypothesis holds if $\tilde{\phi}(k)$, the complex Fourier transform of $\phi$, has only real zeros.

Abstract:Let A(n) be a $k\times s$ matrix and $m(n)$ be a $k$ dimensional vector, where all entries of A(n) and $m(n)$ are integer-valued polynomials in $n$. Suppose that $$t(m(n)|A(n))=#\{x\in\mathbb{Z}_{+}^{s}\mid A(n)x=m(n)\}$$ is finite for each $n\in \mathbb{N}$, where $Z_+$ is the set of nonnegative integers. This paper conjectures that $t(m(n)|A(n))$ is an integer-valued quasi-polynomial in $n$ for $n$ sufficiently large and verifies the conjecture in several cases.

Abstract:Let $ \lambda_{f}(n) $ be the $ n $-th normalized Fourier coefficient of $ f $, which is a primitive holomorphic cusp form of even integral weight $ k\geq2 $ for the full modular group $ SL_2(\mathbb{Z}) $. Let also $ \sigma(n) $ and $ \phi(n) $ be the sum-of-divisors function and the Euler totient function, respectively. In this paper, we are able to establish the asymptotic formula of the sum of the hybrid arithmetic function $ \lambda_{f}^{l}(n)\sigma^{c}(n)\phi^{d}(n) $ over the sparse sequence $ \{n: n = a^2+b^2\} $, namely, $ \sum_{n\leq x} \lambda_{f}^{l}(n)\sigma^{c}(n)\phi^{d}(n)r_2(n) $ for $ 1\leq l\leq 8 $, where $ x $ is a sufficiently large real number, the function $ r_2(n) $ denotes the number of representations of $ n $ as $ n = a^2 + b^2 $, $ a, b, l\in \mathbb{Z} $ and $ c, d \in \mathbb{R} $.

On a finite sum of cosecants appearing in various problems

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the finite sum of cosecants $\sum\csc\big(\varphi+a\pi l/n\big),$ where the index $l$ runs through 1 to $n-1$ and $\varphi$ and $a$ are arbitrary parameters, as well as several closely related sums, such as similar sums of a series of secants, of tangents and of cotangents. These trigonometric sums appear in various problems in mathematics, physics, and a variety of related disciplines. Their particular cases were fragmentarily considered in previous works, and it was noted that even a simple particular case $\sum\csc\big(\pi l/n\big)$ does not have a closed-form, i.e. a compact summation formula. In the paper, we derive several alternative representations for the above-mentioned sums, study their properties, relate them to many other finite and infinite sums, obtain their complete asymptotic expansions for large $n$ and provide accurate upper and lower bounds (e.g. the typical relative error for the upper bound is lesser than $2\times10^{-9}$ for $n\geqslant10$ and lesser than $7\times10^{-14}$ for $n\geqslant50$, which is much better than the bounds we could find in previous works). Our researches reveal that these sums are deeply related to several special numbers and functions, especially to the digamma function (furthermore, as a by-product, we obtain several interesting summations formulae for the digamma function). Asymptotical studies show that these sums may have qualitatively different behaviour depending on the choice of $\varphi$ and $a$; in particular, as $n$ increases some of them may become sporadically large. Finally, we also provide several historical remarks related to various sums considered in the paper. We show that some results in the field either were rediscovered several times or can easily be deduced from various known formulae, including some formulae dating back to the XVIIIth century.

Abstract:F. Luca proved for any fixed rational number $\alpha>0$ that the Diophantine equations of the form $\alpha\,m!=f(n!)$, where $f$ is either the Euler function or the divisor sum function or the function counting the number of divisors, have only finitely many integer solutions $(m,n)$. In this paper we generalize the mentioned result and show that Diophantine equations of the form $\alpha\,m_1!\cdots m_r!=f(n!)$ have finitely many integer solutions, too. In addition, we do so by including the case $f$ is the sum of $k$\textsuperscript{th} powers of divisors function. Moreover, we observe that the same holds by replacing some of the factorials with certain examples of Bhargava factorials.

Abstract:In this short, we study sums of the shape $\sum_{n\leqslant x}{f([x/n])}/{[x/n]},$ where $f$ is Euler totient function $\varphi$, Dedekind function $\Psi$, sum-of-divisors function $\sigma$ or the alternating sum-of-divisors function $\beta.$ We improve previous results when $f=\varphi$ and derive new estimates when $f=\Psi, f=\sigma$ and $f=\beta.$

Abstract:Let $A=(a_1, a_2, ..., a_n)$ be relative prime positive integers with $a_i\geq 2$. The Frobenius number $g(A)$ is the greatest integer not belonging to the set $\big\{ \sum_{i=1}^na_ix_i\ |x_i\in \mathbb{N}\big\}$. The general Frobenius problem includes the determination of $g(A)$ and the related Sylvester number $n(A)$ and Sylvester sum $s(A)$. We present a new approach to the Frobenius problem. Basically, we transform the problem into an easier optimization problem. If the new problem can be solved explicitly, then we will be able to obtain a formula of $g(A)$. We illustrate the idea by giving concise proof of some existing formulas and finding some interesting new formulas of $g(A), n(A), s(A)$. Moreover, we find that MacMahon's partition analysis applies to give a new way of calculating $n(A), s(A)$ by using a rational function representation of a polynomial determined by $A$.
