The influences go as far as to the congressional elections, political parties, and regional separatism. The writer of the paper assumes that the historical existence of religious sects in India is due to both the colonist ruling and the Indian policy failures. 

Abstract:Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of religious beliefs on sociopolitical dynamics in Sub Saharan countries. Methodology: The study adopted a desktop research methodology. Desk research refers to secondary data or that which can be collected without fieldwork. Desk research is basically involved in collecting data from existing resources hence it is often considered a low cost technique as compared to field research, as the main cost is involved in executive’s time, telephone charges and directories. Thus, the study relied on already published studies, reports and statistics. This secondary data was easily accessed through the online journals and library. Findings: The findings revealed that there exists a contextual and methodological gap relating to the influence of religious beliefs on sociopolitical dynamics in Sub Saharan countries. The empirical review revealed that the influence of religious beliefs on sociopolitical dynamics is a significant and complex phenomenon, as evidenced by the empirical studies reviewed. Religious beliefs have been found to shape political participation, attitudes toward gender roles, immigration, LGBTQ+ rights, social activism, and environmental attitudes. These findings highlight the importance of understanding the interplay between religion and sociopolitical dynamics and provide valuable insights for policymakers, religious leaders, and society as a whole. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Keywords: The Secularization theory, Resource Mobilization theory and the Political Theology theory may be used to anchor future studies relating to the influence of religious beliefs on sociopolitical dynamics. This study recommends that by fostering interreligious dialogue, promoting human rights and equality, encouraging critical thinking and education, enhancing collaboration between religious and secular institutions, and supporting grassroots initiatives, societies can navigate the complexities of religious beliefs and create sociopolitical dynamics that embrace diversity and foster social progress.

For instance, in the United States, the First Amendment's establishment clause mandates the separation of church and state, shaping jurisprudence on religious matters. Conversely, India's constitution guarantees religious freedom while allowing for affirmative action based on religion, reflecting a different approach to secularism and minority rights. The comparative analysis further explores the role of constitutional frameworks in reconciling tensions between religious and secular interests. This includes examining how legal systems accommodate religious practices while upholding principles of equality and non-discrimination. Accommodation emerges as a critical concept, capturing strategies employed to reconcile divergent religious beliefs within legal frameworks. Moreover, the study delves into the challenges posed by religious diversity, such as conflicts between individual rights and religious norms, as well as interfaith tensions. Solutions to these challenges often involve judicial interpretation, legislative action, and societal dialogue. Through the protection of minority rights, promotion of dialogue, and establishment of institutional safeguards, legal systems strive to mitigate conflicts arising from religious pluralism.The impact of religious diversity on legal systems is multifaceted, requiring nuanced approaches within constitutional frameworks. By conducting a comparative analysis, this study sheds light on the diverse strategies employed by legal systems to address these challenges. Ultimately, through the careful balancing of competing interests and the protection of fundamental rights, legal systems endeavor to foster social harmony and ensure justice in increasingly diverse societies.
Religious Groups, Varieties of Social Capital and Contentious Politics

Abstract:Drawing upon representative quantitative data and in-depth qualitative materials, this paper compares the roles that monotheist and polytheist groups play in contentious politics and conflict resolution in contemporary rural China. It confirms that polytheist and monotheist groups are indeed different in terms of their relationship with the probability of collective contention in Chinese villages. However, in opposite to the prediction of existing literature, the apparent more subversive monotheist groups tend to be negatively correlated with transgressive conflicts in local communities, whereas polytheist groups, which are normally regarded as indigenous and more inclusive, tend to be positively correlated with collective contention on the grassroots level. To make sense of this apparent contradictory, this paper then investigates the mechanisms that differentiate the roles of different religious groups in contentious politics and conflict resolution. According to the comparative case studies, other things being equal, religious groups that simultaneously overlap with secular organisations and local authorities (i.e. include active members of secular organisations and local authorities as religious groups members) are more proactive and effective than are other religious groups in conflict mediating, regardless the faiths they practice. However, although religious faith may not have a direct impact on how religious groups choose to behave in the face of local conflicts, it does play an indirect but important role in shaping the structural conditions that facilitate the actions taken by religious groups in contentious politics.
The Influence of Religious Belief on Political Voting Behaviour of Urban Residents: Empirical Analysis Based on China's Survey Data

Abstract:The relationship between religious belief and political voting behaviour remains controversial and is influenced by political and cultural contexts. This study explores the influence of religious belief on the political voting behaviour of urban residents in China based on urban sample survey data from the Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS) 2010 and finds that both religious identity and religious behaviour have a significant positive association with political voting behaviour. Compared with those without religious belief, the probability of urban residents with religious belief voting in urban residents' committee elections is significantly increased. Urban residents who participate in religious activities more frequently are more active in voting in residents' committee elections. Buddhist beliefs, Taoism, and folk beliefs have a positive association with urban residents' voting in these elections, indicating that local religious beliefs promote these residents' political voting behaviour. This study supports that the relationship between religious belief and political voting behaviour in China is consistent with the theoretical understanding in a broader context.

Abstract:Hindu nationalism has played a significant role in shaping the political and social landscape of India throughout its history. This paper examines the development of Hindu nationalism in India, from its emergence during the colonial period to its current state in post-independence India. The paper also analyzes the challenges and criticisms associated with Hindu nationalism, including its impact on the principles of secularism and democracy, religious violence and communalism, and the rights and freedoms of minority groups. The paper concludes by discussing the need for greater understanding and tolerance between different religious and cultural groups in India and the importance of promoting a more inclusive and diverse society.

Abstract:Constitutions tend to regulate the relationship between religious and state authorities. Before the rise of the modern state, it was difficult to make proper distinctions between law, religion and morality. With the emergence of Western liberalism, the concept of democracy and secularism gained newfound attention, becoming ingrained and in tune with modern constitutional frameworks. Establishing the relationship between state and religion is a thorny issue for constitution-makers. Opponents of constitutional recognition of religion view religion as a private matter, relating to personal beliefs and conscience. This paper studies the comparative constitutional frameworks of India and Indonesia in relation to the right to religious freedom. As vibrant democracies comprised of ethnically diverse populations, both India and Indonesia grapple with issues concerning religious majorities and minorities. In India, Hindus are the majority, then Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and Buddhists; whereas in Indonesia, Muslims are the majority, then Christians, Hindus and Buddhists. Both India and Indonesia have ratified the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The judgments of the constitutional courts in these countries have prompted constitutional law scholars to analyze the status of constitutionally recognized freedom of religion and its enforceability. This article first studies the relationship between state and religion in the contemporary sphere, thereby engaging in a comparative study of the formation of constitutional provisions in relation to religious freedom in India and Indonesia. Second, it aims to establish the importance of religious freedom within a constitutional framework. Third, it will discuss the issues surrounding recognition and enforcement of religious freedom in India and Indonesia, as well as providing an analysis from the perspective of majoritarianism and religious intolerance. Fourth, it will analyze landmark judgments of the constitutional courts of India and Indonesia in formulating and establishing the basic tenets of religious freedoms in the two nations. The role of the judiciary and governmental institutions in dealing with issues of religious freedom remains a central question in democratic countries such as India and Indonesia. Keeping in mind the need for a more holistic study and contributing to the literature in this area, the authors will present a comparative analysis of religious freedom in both these nations for nuanced understanding of religious rights and their interplay with the respective constitutions.

Abstract:This paper reviews research on the sociology of religion in China since the beginning of the new century. In terms of theoretical research, there are three main themes: first, research focusing on C. K. Yang's sociological study on religion, especially the theories of diffused religion and institutional religion; second, the dialogue with forefront issues such as the application of and controversies related to the rational choice theory of religion in China; and third, indigenous theoretical constructs, including “religious ecology theory” and the theory of the “Sinicization of religion”. In terms of quantitative research, this article reviews progress in the measurement of Chinese religiosity.

Abstract:Religion is considered as a notable origin of interpersonal relations, as well as an effective and efficient tool to organize a huge number of people towards some challenging targets. At the same time, a believer prefers to make friend with other people of the same faith, and thus people of different faiths tend to form relatively isolated communities. The segregation between different religions is a major factor for many social conflicts. However, quantitative understanding of religious segregation is rare. Here we analyze a directed social network extracted from weibo.com (the largest directed social network in China, similar to twitter.com), which is consisted of 6875 believers in Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and Taoism. This religion network is highly segregative. Comparative analysis shows that the extent of segregation for different religions is much higher than that for different races and slightly higher than that for different political parties. Furthermore, we study the few cross-religion links and find 46.7% of them are probably related to charitable issues. Our findings provide quantitative insights into religious segregation and valuable evidence for religious syncretism.

Abstract:The complex and quite rich discourse centered on the three “Abrahamic” religions does not suggest the only way in which one can approach the issue of religious “liberty” or understand the relation among religion and the state. China offers an important and distinctive path that is in its own way more difficult to square with the Western focused discourse that has now become a global standard. Thus is it necessary, before exploring the technical legal details about the interaction of religion and the state in China. It is perhaps not too much of an exaggeration to say that “religion” signifies the character of the entire Western Civilization-- from the Council of Nicaea to the Crusades, and unto the 17th century Enlightenment and the rise of capitalism, Judeo-Christian religions have always played dominant role in the evolution (and devolution) of what is known as the “West”. China provides a substantially different “story” and that difference is foundational to China’s approach to the legitimacy of the boundaries for religious regulation. This essay offers a brief glimpse at a complex problem, and suggests the basis for the quite substantial difficulties of communicating between systems.

Abstract:In recognition of religion's growing role in social life, the Chinese government places ample political trust in religions and encourages religious organizations and leaders to be more deeply involved in Beijing's public diplomacy. Having completed the transition from prudence to activism, China's religious public diplomacy now takes many forms, from hosting high-profile international religious forums and participation in international religious organizations to engaging in exchanges of visit and multiple religious dialogues. Beijing has secured an institutionalized role for religion in public diplomacy through a string of legislative actions and policy measures, for example, erecting a legal and policy framework, putting in place a robust multiparty operational mechanism, formulating a well-defined list of targets, and granting religious groups greater autonomy and flexibility. Beijing's religious public diplomacy also faces significant risks and competition, which will affect its effectiveness and outcomes. Going forward, religious public diplomacy should put more emphasis on its spiritual dimension, build more internationalized organizing platforms, expand its engagement targets, and improve risk control and prevention mechanisms. Moreover, Beijing should increase the institutional stability and creativity for its faith diplomacy and encourage the five state-sanctioned religions and folk beliefs to play a larger role, with a view to consolidating national identity and religious identity among the Chinese people.

Abstract:Regional political parties in India can be grouped into such three types of ethnic nationalist parties, communalist-oriented parties and caste-oriented parties. Their emergence has been related to the evolution and change of social class pattern and caste pattern, and is a product of regionalism catalysed by the Congress's high-degree centralist system. Such a development of Indian internal politics has broken Indian traditional balance of power, changed the power structure of the Lok Sabha, regionalized Indian political parties, and transformed the mode of the future relations between the Union on the one side and the various states on the other.

Abstract:Religious nationalism has become an important phenomenon in the political arena of the world. This paper first tells about researchers' main achievements in the field. Then, it discusses how "religion" and "nationalism" merged into "religious nationalism", and how religious nationalism differs with religious movement or secular nationalism. As a socio-political phenomenon, religious nationalism can not revert to pure religious movement or secular nationalism. Its cause is not transcendentalor purely spiritual, but rather circumstantial. And there exists no universal, singular, or fixed religious nationalism.
