Reliability and Validity of Chinese Version of TAS-20 in 1260 Adolescents

Abstract:Objective: To examine the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the twenty-item Toronto Alexithymia Scale(TAS-20-C) in Chinese adolescents. Methods: The Chinese version of the twenty-item Toronto Alexithymia Scale was completed by 1260 Chinese adolescents. Results: The Cronbach’s α coefficient of the TAS-20-C was 0.87; The test-retest reliability coefficient was 0.81; The mean inter-item correlation coefficients ranged from 0.16 to 0.44; The correlation coefficients of the three factors with the total scale score ranged from 0.74 to 0.87; The correlation coefficients among the three factors ranged from 0.44 to 076; The factors loadings ranged from 0.16 to 0.86; The GFI(0.937)、NFI (0.902)、CFI(0.922)、TLI(0.911)、χ2/df(4.507)、REMEA(0.053) all met the criteria for adequacy of fit of psychometrics; The correlation coefficients of alexithymia with somatization was 0.43(P0.001). The correlation coefficients of alexithymia with depression was 0.61 (P0.001). Conclusion: The Chinese version of the TAS-20 is a reliable and valid measure for assessing alexithymia in Chinese adolescents according to our research.
