The Chinese version of the TAS-20: reliability and validity

Abstract:Objective:To develop the Chinese version of the twenty-item Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) and examine its reliability and validity.Method:A sample of 416 undergraduate students was tested. We examined the Chinese version of the TAS-20's internal reliability and test-retest reliability. Using confirmatory factor analysis, we tested the three-factor model.Result:The Cronbach's a coefficient of the TAS-20 was 0.83; The test-retest reliability coefficient was 0.87; The mean interitem correlation coefficients ranged from 0.13 to 0.32; The correlation coefficients of the three factors with the total scale score ranged from 0.72 to 0.82, The correlation coefficients among the three factors ranged from 0.29 to 0.54; The factors loadings ranged from 0.25 to 0.76. The squared multiple correlations were 0.06～0.57. The NFI(0.973)?CFI (0.987)?TLI(0.984)?χ 2/df(1.781)?REMEA(0.055)all met the criteria standards for adequacy of fit.Conclusion:the Chinese version of the TAS-20 was a reliable and valid measure for assessing alexithymia in Chinese-speaking sample.
