Abstract:Decades of research have documented continuous tension between anthropocentric needs and the environment's capacity to accommodate those needs and support basic human welfare. The way in which society perceives, manages, and ultimately utilizes natural resources can be influenced by underlying environmental ethics, or the moral relationship that humans share with the natural world. This discourse often centers on the complex interplay between the tangible and intangible benefits associated with nonhuman nature (e.g., green space), both of which are relevant to public health. When ecosystem degradation is coupled with socio-demographic transitions, additional concerns related to distributional equity and justice can arise. In this commentary, we explore how environmental ethics can inform the connection between the ecosystem services from green space and socially just strategies of health promotion.

Theoretical Reasoning on Health Rights of Migrant Workers:A Perspective of Environmental Justice

Abstract:In the perspective of environmental justice,this paper reveals the major environmental injustice treatment currently faced by migrant workers,and then provides an analytical framework to interpret the relationship between the health rights and the environmental justice of migrant workers. Based on this framework,we examine the dynamic interaction of the migrant worker’s health hazards in environmental injustice with their socioeconomic status,health susceptibility,pollution exposure and governmental intervention. This paper argues that it is necessary to establish social and medical insurance system to externalize migrant worker’s private health hazard costs,which is not totally a socioeconomic welfare provided by the state,but to some extent an economic compensation to migrant workers for the cost of their health hazards.

Abstract:Eco-social work is a new field of social work practice and research. The discussions about nature, ecology, environment, sustainable development, and indigenous eco-social knowledge gradually became a new direction for social work localization. Eco-social work emphasizes the intersubjectivity and the harmonious coexistence with nature, and the sustainability of welfare integration at the value level. It is the need of citizens to enhance environmental protection awareness and farmers and nomads to protect their ecological rights and interests. Eco-social work can integrate theoretical perspectives, such as ecosystem theory, strengths perspective, intersectionality perspective, and green development, to promote the innovation and application of the social work practice approaches of harmonious coexistence with nature. With professional, social, and cultural-ecological knowledge, eco-social work can build a bridge between the national ecological development plan and the ecological needs of traditional livelihoods. Besides, more knowledge of eco-social work will promote the effectiveness of environmental governance and the achievement of ecological welfare.

Abstract:The environmental sector is an interesting realm in Chinese politics to observe factors such as the contributions of new media activism in bottom-up communication and decision-making processes, especially during the 40 years of reform and opening up. Top-down efforts to curb environmental issues are primarily to address increasing pubic discomfort due to pollution and related problems. However, environmental movements are increasingly visible in China despite their application of stability maintenance mechanisms such as Environmental Police. It is therefore noteworthy to deeply analyse the factors that contribute to the increasing scale of movements in the country. This study examines the role of new media activism (occurring due to the public’s interactions through WeChat, Weibo, QQ, etc.) in shaping the trajectory of environmental movements in China. How are these avenues supporting alternative communication channels outside the mainstream policy making apparatus? Is the government willing to incorporate the interests developed in these channels to policymaking realms? How these behavioural changes are influencing the state–society relations in contemporary China in the context of increasing environmental concerns. The study employs agency-structure framework to analyse the interactions between new media activism and the single party ruling political structure with the support fieldwork data from China. The study examines policy documents, official declarations of the communist party, public attitude towards new media activism, and so on, in order to present a comprehensive understanding on the politics of ecology in the PRC.

Abstract:The trend of relativism was obvious in Zhuangzi's philosophical thoughts.Under the cover of relativism,he reflected upon and worried about the early "Human Centrism" and transmitted the thought that human being is equal to the ten thousand things of creation and the basic human concern about the other species in nature.The ecological wisdom of zhuangzi was similar to the modern theory of environmental protection.The seemingly pessimistic view of the relation between human and nature gave people a warning:A great deal of ecological crisis have been caused by human's wilful and careless action towards nature.If people are not aware of the convention of nature,if people don't stop before going too far,if people are not content with their lot,they will face an impasse as the other creatures.

Abstract:A growing body of evidence studies whether access to forest is beneficial to human well-being. Potential health benefits of forest exposure include physical activities and psychological benefits of contacting with forest ecosystem services. However, little research shows integral framework for the relationship of forest human well-being and ecosystem services. Hence we develop the framework that employ ecosystem services in particularly focus on forest types that influence health. The implications of this work provide not only for further study but also contribute to practitioner.

Abstract:A critical issue for China, during the process of social structural transformation and social modernization, is to handle the relation between the personal welfare and the social order. State, market, community, and family, they all have great influence on the personal welfare in the context of economic marketing and socialized welfare. The most important factors are the labor market and the state redistribution mechanism. The existing theory of social welfare model no longer works for the plural social welfare practice of mixed economic system. The authors examine a holistic framework of welfare system and policy model, which is theoretically important and will realistically affect the policy making process.

Abstract:Ecological development in the 20th century provides a new paradigm for understanding nature. Studies on interspecific relationship, community succession, eco-system and its nutritional dynamics show that the integrity, diversity, and species in ecosystems are interdependent and reveal an image which is quite different from modern orthodox world-view. Based on this holistic image, environmental holism(land ethic and deep ecology) has realized the shift from ecology to metaphysics in terms of world-view and methodology and reconstructed the holistic value theories and environmental ethics, which are opposite to anthropocentrism.

Abstract:Since the Anthropocene, drastic changes in the relationship between humans and the earth have prompted human beings to pay more attention to the living environment. As a metaphor to reveal the state of humanity and nature, ecosystem health has gradually become an important issue closely related to global sustainable development ever since it was widely discussed in the 1990s. This study reviewed 4354 publications about ecosystem health from the Web of Science Core Collection by using CiteSpace software. In addition, 135 empirical papers were selected to further analyze the evaluation methods and characteristics of ecosystem health. This study was able to answer four questions: (1) What are the definitions, research content, and characteristics of ecosystem health? (2) Are there any features during the different periods of the development of the ecosystem health? Are there geographical differences in the research? (3) What are the methods and cases selected for studying ecosystem health, and under what kind of conditions do they apply? Are there any patterns or characteristics in the use of these methods? (4) What are the gaps and deficiencies in ecosystem health research, and where should we set our focus on in the future? In general, this study combined bibliometric analysis with a systematic review method, aiming to summarize the current status of ecosystem health research, make up for the deficiencies in the current review, and put forward new insights regarding the concept cognition, evaluation, and future outlook of ecosystem health research.

Abstract:Western culture over the last two centuries has become significantly ecologically 'dis-embedded', with nature increasingly reduced to resources for human use. The consequence is global environmental degradation, including accelerating climate change. Much recent research supports associations between nature contact and human health and well-being, and between feelings of nature-connectedness and pro-environmental attitudes and behaviours. The oft-cited Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion (WHO, Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion, 1986) emphasises human-environment inextricability; however public health discourse and response has not fully engaged with this recognition. This qualitative study explored the attitudes, motivations, and experiences-including formative influences-of six individuals whose behaviour was congruent with recognition of human-nature interconnectedness; such individuals may be understood as ecologically embedded. Key aspects of participants' experience, identified through grounded theory thematic analysis, were (i) connecting with nature (especially in childhood); (ii) seeing the threat and taking it personally; (iii) the nature of reality; (iv) dedicated beyond the ego-oriented self; and (v) sustaining the eco-centric self. The findings highlight the necessity for cross-sectoral advocacy at all levels of government policy development focused on recognition of human-environment connectedness, especially bridging health, planning and education policies affecting children. Only thus will both population health and ecological health on which population health depends be possible.

Abstract:This paper tracks back to the changing history of environmental communication from the wilderness protection at the end of 19th century to the global green culture in the 21st century . By analyzing four major environmental movements including the preservation and conservation movement , the mainstream environmental movement , the environmental justice movement , and the global environmental movement , this paper discusses how the environmental movement has progressed from a single dimension movement centering on wilderness in the American continent to a multi‐faceted global movement surrounding human interests and filled with social and political oppositions , as well as competing voices and struggles of various stakeholders . T hrough elucidating the changing landscape of the environmental movement , the paper hopes to bring inspiration and reference to the constitution of environmental communication as a new subject of study in China .

Abstract:The impacts of global environmental change have precipitated numerous approaches that connect the health of ecosystems, non-human organisms and humans. However, the proliferation of approaches can lead to confusion due to overlaps in terminology, ideas and foci. Recognising the need for clarity, this paper provides a guide to seven field developments in environmental public health research and practice: occupational and environmental health; political ecology of health; environmental justice; ecohealth; One Health; ecological public health; and planetary health. Field developments are defined in terms of their uniqueness from one another, are historically situated, and core texts or journals are highlighted. The paper ends by discussing some of the intersecting features across field developments, and considers opportunities created through such convergence. This field guide will be useful for those seeking to build a next generation of integrative research, policy, education and action that is equipped to respond to current health and sustainability challenges.

Abstract:Ecosystem health is a newly proposed concept that sets new goals for environmental management. Its definition, assessment indicators, and assessment methods are reviewed in this paper. Literature shows that the definitions and the assessment indicators cover a wide range of ecosystem health, and they differ in terms of researchers' different scientific background. It is concluded that the concept of ecosystem health cannot be defined or understood simply in biological or ethical or aesthetic or historical terms and the assessment should be based on applying several indicators simultaneously to get overall picture of the health or integrity state of an ecosystem.

Abstract:In an age of globalization,exploring the issue of ecology and environment has attracted the attention of many intellectuals and literary critics.Ecocriticism,after its introduction to China at the beginning of this century,has gradually been localized,becoming both a methodology and a theoretical perspective for literary criticism and research on ecology and the environment.Obviously,exploring the man-nature relationship dates back to ancient times not only in western literature but also in Chinese literature,which enables the author to construct postmodern literary eco-environmental ethics.It's worth noting,however,that only after the dissolution of anthropocentrism,can there appear the eco-centric mode of thinking,which is another subject matter the author tries to contribute to.The author believes that calling for postmodern literary environmental ethics may well guarantee harmonious relationships between man and nature and in turn facilitate the practice of the Scientific Concept of Development and the sustainable development strategy in China.
