Abstract:As a novel method for dealing material,cryogenic treatment has attracted much attention in the past decades,while the mechanisms for cryogenic treatment in improving material performance is not clearly understood.The coupling of material performance with temperature variation process needs further research work,for which the heat transfer analysis will be its fundamental tool.Inverse heat transfer analysis is considered as a feasible method for investigating the heat transfer problems in cryogenic treatment.After a detailed description of the definition and solving method of inverse heat conduction problem,its primary application in heat transfer analysis and the potential problems in analyzing cryogenic treatment process will be discussed and presented.
Improvement of Thermal Performance of Novel Heat Exchanger with Latent Heat Storage

Abstract:In this paper, an optimization method is proposed to improve the performance of a novel heat exchanger with latent heat thermal energy storage. Paraffin/expanded graphite composites were used as phase change material filled in annular tube, maintained contact with the shell and tube flow channels simultaneously. The heat transfer and flow characteristics of this novel heat exchanger were investigated in a previous study, which indicated that further research was required to enhance thermal transfer rates. Therefore, in this work, the thermal property of the material and geometric parameters of the heat exchanger, including compression density, tube diameter, and fins and baffle configuration, were studied numerically to improve the thermal behavior of the system. It was found that a composite with density of 600 kg/m(3), a tube diameter of 19 mm, and an extended surface and baffle space of 100 mm, can be used for the final optimization result. The results show that, after optimization, the thermal conductivity of the phase change material can reach 5.16 W/m K and the latent thermal energy stored in system could be twice that previously obtained. The solidification rate can increase to a maximum of 50% while the shell side Nu/Pr-1/3 can reach 29.98. The improved heat exchanger shows better energy storage capacity and working power. Application study on enamel heat exchange tube in GGH of coal-fired units with ultra-low flue gas emission

Abstract:The water medium heat pipe gas-gas heater (MGGH) is an important part of ultra-low flue gas emission technology for coal-fired boilers, of which the operating environment is bad and the corrosion mechanism of the heat exchange tube is complex, it is a key problem to solve the low temperature corrosion of heat exchange tube.Analysis on corrosive mechanism of the heat exchange tube shows that the low temperature section of the gas reheater in the MGGH is located on the No.II serious corrosion zone. There are two engineering techniques to control the low temperature corrosion rate and the heat exchanger tube materials of 316L, DIN1.4529, plastic and enamel can satisfy the requirement. It finds that the enamel heat exchange tube can meet the engineering requirements through the research and comparison. From several aspects such as the corrosion resistance of sulfuric acid, thermal conductivity, mechanical properties of materials, anti erosion & abrasion resistance and engineering cost, the enamel heat exchange tube can solve the problem of low temperature corrosion. Enamel heat exchange tube has excellent performance of low temperature corrosion resistance, wear resistance and heat conduction, and the capability of heat transfer is superior to the steel pipe. It has been verified that the enamel heat exchange tube can satisfy the technical requirement, and has important engineering application by engineering practice.
Heat Transfer Enhancement in Shell-and-tube Latent Thermal Energy Storage Units

Abstract:In order to investigate the most effective means of heat transfer enhancement,four different kinds of heat storage units—the bare tube with pure paraffin,the finned tube with pure paraffin,the bare tube with paraffin/expanded graphite composite material and the finned tube with paraffin/expanded graphite compound material were studied numerically and the performance was compared.The heat transfer performance of the fourth unit was the best one for all the units,while that of the second unit and the third unit were similar and were both better than the first unit.When the mass flow rate of heat transfer fluid(HTF)at the inlet was 0.02 m·s-1,the heat retrieval duration for the fourth unit was only half of that in the first unit.Moreover,the temperature of the HTF at the outlet was nearly 5 K higher than that in the first unit.The heat transfer enhancement became more evident with increasing the mass flow rate and decreasing the temperature of the HTF at the inlet.

Abstract:This article proceeded from the basic principle of heat insulation coating. Based on the mechanism of heat insulation and insulation, heat insulation coatings can be divided into three different types, i. e. , blocking, reflecting and radiating. Mecha鄄 nisms of heat insulation of the three types of heat insulation coatings were briefly introduced, the application status of heat insula鄄 tion coatings was summarized. Combining the problems existing in the thermal recovery of heavy oil in the oil industry and the work requirements on the surface of oil tubing, an application idea of using an inorganic and efficient heat insulation coating that overlaid on the surface of the insulated tubing was proposed, the development trend of heat insulation coatings was summarized. In the end, the development direction of the heat insulation coating was forecasted, and the problems and deficiencies in development resear鄄 ches of heat insulation coatings were pointed out.

Abstract:This study presents a numerical and experimental analysis of the forced convective heat transfer of paraffin, which is intended for use in environmental control systems (ECSs). The research concentrates on the heat transfer characteristics of paraffin in laminar flow. The results of the simulation present the relationship between the convective heat transfer coefficient (CHTC) and the tube length in the flow direction. It is determined that the CHTC of the paraffin undergoes a slight increase throughout its phase change stage (the corresponding material temperatures ranged from 291.15 K to 288.15 K). Compared with water, the value of the CHTC of paraffin is 9.8-10.7 times larger, depending on the flow rate of the fluid. For given values of the parameters tube length and inner diameter, there is an optimal flow velocity of the paraffin for heat flux enhancement. In the present work, the optimum flow velocity is 0.020 m.s(-1). The maximal heat flux, in the meantime, reaches 465.1 W, which accounts for 58.2% of the total heat capacity of paraffin. The approach of using flowing paraffin in ECSs for thermal energy storage/transfer may be technically viable. In addition, the assumption that the flowing paraffin has been thermally fully developed in the heat transfer tube cannot be used for solving the energy equations. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. Basic Physics and In-tube Resistances of Novel Phase Change Fluids

Abstract:The phase change fluids mentioned in this paper are paraffin emulsions, which can be used as heat storage and transfer media. They can be applied for waste heat recovery, solar energy utilization and central heating systems. Because paraffin emulsions can store their latent heat during phase change process in the temperature range of 80-90 degrees C, their heat storage density are higher than water. So, the volume of the heat storage tanks with paraffin emulsions can be reduced compared to the system with water. Furthermore, the pipeline flow can be reduced due to their high heat carrier density. Based on that, latent heat transportation using paraffin emulsions could cut energy consumption of pumps, so the energy saving can be achieved. In this paper, paraffin emulsions were prepared and their basic physics were measured. The in-tube resistances of paraffin emulsions were investigated using experimental methods. An experimental system was set up to investigate drag properties of paraffin emulsions flowing in a horizontal tube and the friction factors were obtained.

Abstract:Energy is an important factor in the economic and social progress of human society.Facing social and environmental problems induced by increasing energy consumption,the energy conservation and emission reduction becomes a consensus.As an important component of energy technology,the low-grade waste heat recovery technique has a great potential.However,the current techniques suffer from a number of difficulties,such as the poor performance of materials,the low level of encapsulation techniques,and the limitation of heat exchangers,which hampers its progress to some extent.This paper reviews the domestic and international researches on the utilization of low-grade waste heat,especially,the key links between heat transfer and utilization.Based on the assessment of the current techniques,the application of room temperature liquid metals is proposed,for their excellent heat transfer performance and low power driving property,to partly replace water,as is usually adopted in the conventional waste heat recovery process.In this way,a new generation device with high efficiency in recovery of waste heat and power generation can be developed.The concept of water free heat exchanger is discussed,together with the key scientific and technological issues.With the development of the liquid metal heat exchanger technology,it is expected that a new field of utilizing industrial waste heat would emerge,which would bring about deep impact in many respects such as energy and water conservation,energy consumption reduction and environmental protection.

Abstract:Both domestic and international investigations on high-temperature heat pump technology are reviewed in this paper.It is shown that most studies focused on the development of the environment-friendly refrigerant and the system efficiency.The recent development on high-temperature heat pump system and centrifugal heat pump units are introduced.Based on the application in industry,it can be concluded that: the high-temperature heat pump technology can be widely used in oil heating,chemical engineering,sewage heat recovery,sea water desalination and drying,and has good effect in energy saving.Besides,the development direction and trend of the high-temperature heat pump is also discussed in this paper.

Abstract:Paraffin emulsion in field of latent heat transportation is a kind of suspension which emulsified by phase change paraffin and water.It has high heat capacity.So,the thermal storage and heat transportation density of phase change fluid are much higher than that of water under the same temperature difference.For given heat transportation quantity,the mass flow rate and the pump consumption for phase change fluid can be reduced greatly than that for water.Based on that,latent heat transportation using paraffin emulsion could cut energy consumption of pumps,so the energy saving can be achieved.Research progress in low-temperature paraffin emulsion and high-temperature paraffin emulsion were reviewed.Furthermore,the shortcomings of paraffin emulsion such as low thermal conductivity and poor stability were pointed out.It was proposed that the low thermal conductivity can be enhanced by adding nano-particles and the poor stability can be improved by preparing paraffin micro-emulsion with nano diameter.

Abstract:Paraffin removal is a difficult problem in oil recovery.The thermal well-flushing is com-prehensive used in many oilfields because of its convenience and entirety.An introduction is given on contrast and range of casing inverted flushing,casing short circuit inverted flushing,casing temperature-control inverted flushing,hollow rods obverse flushing.For nice effect of hollow rods obverse flushing,technology and matching tools have been optimized to obtain good benefits.The effect proved that paraffin removal of low-pressure,low-infiltration and serious wax deposition can be solved favorably.

Abstract:In order to improve the heat transfer between the air and paraffin phase change heat storage, the circular fins are arranged on the smooth circular heat storage air duct to enhance the heat transfer between the air and paraffin, and study the effects of different fin thickness, fin space and the number of heat storage air ducts on the heat storage and release process of paraffin. In this research work, the heat transfer process is studied by numerical work.The model of the heat storage device is established by using Fluent software in computational fluid dynamics (CFD)simulation software, and make simulation calculation for different fin thickness, fin space and the numbers of duct.The results of simulation calculation show that the paraffin melting degree and average temperature of paraffin regenerator with fin thickness of 15 mm is higher than that with fin thickness of 10 mm.The paraffin melting degree and average paraffin temperature of paraffin regenerator with fin space of 25 mm are highest.At the paraffin regenerator with ducts number of 16, the melting degree, average temperature and flow channel of paraffin are highest, which are 92.42%,319.64 K and 323.71 K respectively.The Nusselt number and paraffin melting degree of the best regenerator are fitted with the empirical formula by the method of curve fitting.And the curve shows that when the number of air ducts is 18, the melting degree of paraffin reaches the maximum.The heat released by the best combination regenerator can maintain the indoor heating for eight hours at night.

Abstract:Based on paraffin as a solid-liquid phase change materials(PCM) having the disadvantages of low thermal conductivity and bad performance of heat transfer,AlN/paraffin composite materials were prepared by molten immersion method and characterized by SEM,XRD and DSC measuerments.The results show that paraffin has a lower melting point and total latent heat.Its thermal conductivity achieves the maximum at 35℃ and sharply declines later.Also nano AlN has no influence on the stability of parafffin just as a kind of supporting material.

Abstract:One of the main challenges for the energy industry is to improve the reliability and efficiency of heat exchange equipment in heating plants. Phase-change heat exchangers with low boiling point fluid (LBPF) are widely used in both conventional and renewable energy. The main objectives of increasing the efficiency of heat exchange equipment are to reduce the weight and dimensions, to increase the amount of heat transferred and to reduce the electricity consumption spent on pumping the heat transfer agent. These objectives are achieved by implementing various methods of heat exchange intensification in heat exchange equipment. A key aspect concerning application of various types of heat exchange intensifiers in heat exchange equipment is evaluation of possibility to increase their design efficiency. The paper presents the results of a computational parametric study of changes in efficiency of some LBPF-based plants when intensifying heat exchange processes by modifying functional surfaces of heat exchangers by laser ablation.

Abstract:The utilization of phase change heat storage (PCHS) technology holds immense importance in the practical implementation of solar energy. However, in heat transfer process, PCHS technology is affected by the uneven temperature and low thermal conductivity of the storage materials. In this research, a complete numerical heat transfer model is built for the PCHS unit in the hot water oil-displacement system by using a new type of fin combined with a circular fin and a rectangular fin for enhanced heat transfer. By changing the radius of circular fin and the number of rectangular fin, six different fin structures are constructed for comparative analysis. The effects of fin structure on liquid phase, velocity and temperature distribution, heat absorption rate and related heat absorption properties are investigated. The Case 6 configuration, featuring 8 rectangular fins, exhibits a notable 106.7% increase in the average rate of heat absorption. Additionally, the heat storage time is reduced by 53.02%, albeit with a 2.94% decrease in the overall heat storage compared to the initial structure. Further examination of the temperature response reveals that the mean temperature response of the Case 6 configuration surpasses that of the initial structure by 113.14%. These results provide evidence for the effectiveness of the newly implemented annular fin in improving the heat storage properties of the PCHS unit in the hot water displacement system.

Abstract:The high efficiency SHEER hydrocracking technology was introduced , in which the integration of high temperature and high pressure counter-current heat transfer , state-of-the-art reactor internals , micro-swirl separation and non-direct-contact anti-scaling and descaling was fulfilled .The partial autothermal hydrogenation unit and hydrocracking were invented for furnace only ,thus the project investment and operation costs were lowered .The new startup scheme for a set of partial autothermal hydrogenation technologies was developed . The calculation results of SHEER hydrocracking process based upon a hydrocracking unit showed that by using the high efficiency SHEER hydrocracking technology unit energy consumption was reduced by 44.85% and 4.56% project investment was saved , resulting in good economic , social benefits and good application prospect .

Abstract:In this article, the discharging cycles of paraffin in novel latent heat storage (LHS) unit are experimentally investigated. The novel LHS unit includes shell and tube With longitudinal fins based heat exchanger and paraffin as thermal energy storage material. The experimental investigations are focused on identifying the transient temperature performance, effective mode of heat transfer, accumulative thermal energy discharge and mean discharge power of paraffin in LHS unit. Moreover, the influences of operating conditions such as the inlet temperature and volume flow rate of heat transfer fluid (HTF) on thermal behaviour of LHS unit are experimentally studied. The transient temperature profiles and photographic characterisation of liquid-solid transition of paraffin in LHS unit provide a good understanding of temperature distribution and dominant mode of heat transfer. It is noticed that during discharging cycles, natural convection has an insignificant impact on thermal performance of LHS unit. However, due to inclusion of extended longitudinal fins, conduction is the dominant mode of heat transfer. It is noticed that due to the development of solidified paraffin around tubes and longitudinal fins, the overall thermal resistance is increased and thus, discharging rate is affected. However, by regulating the inlet temperature or volume flow rate of HTF, the influence of overall thermal resistance is minimised. Mean discharge power is enhanced by 36.05% as the inlet temperature is reduced from 15 degrees C to 5 degrees C. Likewise, the mean discharge power is improved by 49.75% as the volume flow rate is increased from 1.5 l/min to 3 l/min. Similarly, with an increase in volume flow rate, the discharge time of equal amount of thermal energy 12.09 MJ is reduced by 24%. It is established that by adjusting operating conditions, the required demand of output temperature and mean discharge power can be attained. Furthermore, this novel LHS unit can meet large scale thermal energy demands by connecting several units in parallel and thus, it has potential to be employed in wide-ranging domestic and commercial applications.

Abstract:The thermal performances of several kinds of paraffin and their mixtures were studied experimentally by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The phase change temperatures of paraffin are from 20°C to 501. The results show that the phase change temperature of paraffin can vary with the constitution, and paraffin has larger phase change latent heat and no supercooling. The phase change temperature and phase change latent heat vary very small after absorbing heat and emitting heat for several times. The results can provide basis for the application of phase change material in the building field.

Abstract:Latent heat thermal energy storage systems can be used to recover the rejected heat from air conditioning systems, which can be used to generate low-temperature hot water. It decreases not only the consumption of primary energy for heating domestic hot water but also the calefaction to the surroundings due to the rejection of heat from air conditioning systems. A recovery system using phase change materials (PCMs) to store the rejected (sensible and condensation) heat from air conditioning system has been developed and studied, making up the shortage of other sensible heat storage system. Also, PCMs compliant for heat recovery of air conditioning system should be developed. Technical grade paraffin wax has been discussed in this paper in order to develop a paraffin wax based PCM for the recovery of rejected heat from air conditioning systems. The thermal properties of technical grade paraffin wax and the mixtures of paraffin wax with lauric acid and with liquid paraffin (paraffin oil) are investigated and discussed, including volume expansion during the phase change process, the freezing point and the heat of fusion.
