Abstract:Cooperative learning is a kind of teaching theory and strategy system based on group. The theory of cooperative learning has been applied in college English teaching and has proved to be fruitful and beneficial. Cooperative learning as a breakthrough and complement against traditional classroom instruction is an efficient teaching approach, which can promote learners’ cognitive ability and improve their competence to use language. This paper intends to discuss the significance of cooperative learning and how to apply this approach in college English teaching to improve students’ overall language competence. Abstract:The new curriculum reform emphasizes the change of students' learning style and the reform of classroom teaching form, which requires teaching to develop towards the direction of autonomy, cooperation and inquiry, one of the important and specific goals is to change the ubiquitous passive acceptance of students' learning style, advocating students' participation in cooperative learning. Cooperative learning is a teaching activity that takes heterogeneous learning groups as the basic form system, utilizes the interaction between dynamic factors of teaching to promote students' learning, takes group achievement as the evaluation standard, and achieves teaching objectives together. Taking English classroom as an example, this paper discusses the application of cooperative learning in language learning. First, it introduces the concept and theoretical basis of cooperative learning, and its value and application in language learning. Secondly, through the analysis of cooperative learning practices in English classrooms, the main influencing factors and coping strategies of cooperative learning effectiveness are summarized. Then, effective regulation methods are proposed from the perspective of teachers and some suggestions are put forward to improve the application of cooperative learning in language learning. Finally, some suggestions on the future research of cooperative learning are put forward.

Abstract:There are four basic skills in English learning, namely, listening, speaking, reading and writing, while reading is the most fundamental and important skill. It is also the main and effective way to learn English, so improving the quality of reading teaching is the key to improve the quality of foreign language teaching. However, in traditional teacher-centered teaching method, students gain knowledge passively and cannot effectively show their personality and abilities.Cooperative learning is a new strategy in English teaching, which can make improvement by the application of interactive teaching dynamic factors, so cooperative learning is an effective way to solve the problems in education. Data analysis points out that cooperative learning strongly promotes the efficiency and has good prospects for development. The study also finds out the problems in the application of cooperative learning in English reading practice.

Abstract:Cooperative learning has often been examined through experimental research with evidence of its numerous benefits. However, the extent and fidelity of its classroom use are understudied, and even there are few reports about its limited and unfaithful use. Using grounded theory, this exploratory study examined semi-structured detailed interviews from 14 Iranian English as foreign language (EFL) teachers to derive a framework explaining their conception and practice of cooperative learning. The findings suggested that, notwithstanding the positive beliefs about its benefits, cooperative learning is not extensively and faithfully used in the classes because of teachers’ knowledge, beliefs, and some implementation challenges.

Abstract:Writing is one of the five major English language skills according to the new English curriculum standards, and writing also reflects the core competence of students in English. English writing ability is a basic skill that students should master in the process of English learning. However, English writing teaching is one of the most difficult and neglected parts of teaching. The current writing teaching model is generally teacher-centered, focusing on results and neglecting process. This teaching method is often time-consuming, and has little effect. Cooperative learning is student-centered, values the learning process of students, and encourages students to help each other, discuss together, and actively participate in writing, thereby inspiring students’ interest in writing. This article analyzes the current researches on cooperative learning abroad and at home, introduces the theory of cooperative learning and its significance in writing teaching, and puts forward suggestions on how to better use cooperative learning in writing teaching.

Abstract:The rapid development of computer technology in the past decades opens up the way to CAI (Computer-Assisted Instruction), thus revolutionizing the traditional English teaching method. However due to its inherent limitations and lack of person-to-person interaction, CAI is not very conductive to improve the learners' communicative abilities. Cooperative language learning method, emerging in mid 80s and based on student-student interaction and cooperation is helpful in improving learners' actual communicative competence, so it can be used to remedy the defects of CAI. On the basis of analyzing their advantages respectively, the author attempts to put forward a new CALL strategy to integrate both.

Abstract:The notion of pedagogical technology «cooperative learning» as the effective innovative educational technology is analysed. The attention is concentrated on the interpretation peculiarities of this technology as the constituent of the learner-centered approach in teaching English to university students of linguistic departments. The author examines the issue of technology of students’ cooperation in the modern aspect of education with the creation of new learning technologies. Application of interactive forms and methods of teaching in the educational process promotes the formation of skills and abilities of university students, their active interaction, development of values, creation an atmosphere of cooperation. The author concludes that the development of new forms of learning that facilitate students’ integration into the educational process, the emergence of general educational skills, search of personal sense of activity, mastering a variety of social roles promote self-knowledge and formation of personal traits of readiness to create solutions and communicate fluently. Modern pedagogical technologies are of great necessity in training the skilful teacher. Such technologies must be integrated in the traditional teaching process. Cooperative learning is the contraversion to traditional system of teaching. Instead of domination in explanative and illustrative type of teaching and only students’ reproductive activity, cooperative learning assures more communication, hence the great motivation of students’ studying the definite foreign language and approving their skills in any difficult situation that is the preference in self-education and self-development. Cooperation is the sourse of unconscious help within the working group. Thus the students sustain each other motivating the realization of the necessary common result. The learner-centered approach is concentrated mainly on activity realization and leads to practicing foreign language more than individual reproducting the lexical and grammatical units. Therefore it is more effective and presupposes great results in language studying.
