Abstract:The diaphragm spring is the key element in modern automobile clutch. Its elastic characteristic affects the overall performance of the clutch. Taking a car as an example, According to the design requirements and characteristics, it was to establish the mathematical model of optimum design of automobile clutch diaphragm spring. It was to optimize the design parameters of the basic structure of the diaphragm spring by using the MATLAB optimization toolbox. It did finite element analysis for the 3D modeling using ANSYS software. The results show that: it can be obtained more reasonably of the diaphragm spring elastic curve by the optimal design, shorten the design cycle, reduce the cost of.

Abstract:To study the clutch engagment judder and its influence factors,a four-degree-of-freedom(4-DOF) powertrain dynamic model was established.The analysis was performed on the mechanism of self-excited vibrations and the stability under the variation in the friction coefficient during clutch engagement.With the numerical simulations for the shifting process in a vehicle,the effects of many kinds of influence factors on clutch judder were discussed.The result showed that the negative slope of friction coefficient and oscillation of clamp pressure would cause or aggravate the clutch judder,and the judder could be reduced effectively by increasing the static coefficient of friction component,the damping ratio and the stiffness of transmission shaft,which could benefit the design and control of clutches.

Abstract:The purpose of a clutch is to initiate motion or increase the velocity of a body generally by transferring kinetic energy from another moving body. The mass being accelerated is generally a rotating inertial body. The present paper deals with designing a friction clutch assembly using Solid Works Office Premium software. The assembly comprises of the clutch plate, the pressure plate and a diaphragm spring. Static structural analysis was done using ANSYS software. The plots for equivalent stress, total deformation and factor of safety were obtained and the design was continuously optimized till a safe design was obtained. Uniform wear theory was used for the analysis. The material assignment is as follows: clutch plate-structural steel, pressure plate- cast iron GS-70-02 and diaphragm spring- spring steel. The friction material assumed is molded asbestos opposing cast iron/ steel surface.

Abstract:The weight coefficients of the diaphragm spring depend on experiences in the traditional optimization. However, this method not only cannot guarantee the optimal solution but it is also not universal. Therefore, a new optimization target function is proposed. The new function takes the minimum of average compress force changing of the spring and the minimum force of the separation as total objectives. Based on the optimization function, the result of the clutch diaphragm spring in a car is analyzed by the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) and the solution set of Pareto is obtained. The results show that the pressing force of the diaphragm spring is improved by 4.09% by the new algorithm and the steering separation force is improved by 6.55%, which has better stability and steering portability. The problem of the weight coefficient in the traditional empirical design is solved. The pressing force of the optimized diaphragm spring varied slightly during the abrasion range of the friction film, and the manipulation became remarkably light.

Abstract:Glass lens molding is a high-volume fabrication method for producing optical components. In this paper, combined with the orthogonal test method and finite element method (FEM) simulation, the coupled thermo-mechanical analysis was carried out to analyze the key process factors. In order to reduce the testing time, an orthogonal test with three sets of level factors and three parameters is conducted to obtain the optimal molding process parameters. The result shows that the most significant parameter is molding velocity, the other effect parameters are molding temperature and friction coefficient. According to the previous analysis of orthogonal experiment, it is shown that the best optimal finishing process parameters were A2B1C1.

Abstract:To satisfy the rigidity,stability and other requirements of non-cylinder pinholes precision machining by the spatial flexible-components and giant magnetostrictive material(GMM),the driven characteristics of GMM and multi-objective optimization of its performances were studied,such as the driving stiffness,torsional stiffness and first natural frequency.Then the main structural parameters of spatial flexible-components were analyzed which can influence each performances,and a kind of multi-objective optimization methods of flexible-components were given based on orthogonal test,finite element simulation and genetic algorithm.And through the orthogonal permutation and combination of the discrete values of main structural parameters,then get a mapping test table with finite element simulations.After each performance parameters and the main structural parameters optimization models were build by regression fitting method.The multi-objective of spatial flexible-component performances were optimized by the multi-objective genetic algorithm.Then a group of optimal solution of main structural parameters were got,and the bending deformation reached 51.6um,the torsional deformation was 3.3um,and first natural frequency was 849.7 Hz,which all met the driven characteristics of GMM and basic requirements of non-cylinder pinholes precisely machining.

Abstract:For general-purpose passenger cars with a manual transmission, breakaway performances of a clutch have great effects on ride of clutch operation system. Breakaway performances of a clutch is defined as force versus displacement applied at clutch fingers, and it is nonlinear decided by nonlinear characteristics of diaphragm spring and waveform plate. The relationship between characteristics of clutch breakaway and the ride of clutch operation system is investigated in this paper. A finite element (FE) model is proposed and used to estimate characteristics of clutch breakaway, and the calculated results are compared with experiments and these obtained by simple analytical method that deformation of a diaphragm spring is ignored. In the FE model, the nonlinear characteristics of diaphragm spring and waveform plate at axis direction are included. The influence of nonlinear characteristics of waveform plate and diaphragm spring on clutch breakaway is analyzed using the proposed model and the method for how to utilize nonlinear characteristics of diaphragm spring and waveform plate to enhance breakaway performances of a clutch is proposed. An example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed in the paper.

Abstract:A certain type of clutch waveform spring and disc brush were taken as examples,and method of using multi-body system dynamics to calculate the elastic characteristics and cleaning force was studied.First of all,the model of multi-body system dynamics for waveform spring was established,and the simulation calculation was carried on.At the same time,the elastic characteristics of this sample was tested, and then the simulation results with the test results were compared.The results showed that the errors of simulation method within the acceptable range in engineering.

Abstract:Abstract The brake is the key mechanism of automobile braking system, which makes the vehicle reach the expected driving state by outputting braking force to the wheel. SolidWorks was used to model the pneumatic disc brake of EQ1180GEVJ new energy commercial vehicle. The finite element software ANSYS workbench was used to conduct the finite element analysis of the brake disc, brake clamp and bracket, and the stress cloud diagram under the braking condition, as well as the first 10 natural frequencies and the main vibration pattern diagram were obtained. The results show that the maximum deformation of the brake disc is in the lower position on both sides of the brake disc, and the maximum stress is in the position connected with the wheel hub. The maximum stress of the brake clamp is at the connection between the connecting arm and the brake chamber. The maximum stress of the support is at the connection between the support and the suspension. The first ten natural frequencies of the three parts are between 240Hz and 3000Hz. By analysing the mode, we can obtain the position where the mode which is prone to sudden vibration frequency change and the system may generate the maximum vibration amplitude when resonance occurs. The results provide some references for further optimization of disc brake.

Abstract:Considering that the clutch cover assembly and driven disc assembly show common effect on the engagement/disengagement characteristics of the pull-type diaphragm spring clutches for heavy-duty commercial vehicles, the diaphragm spring, cushion plate, and friction plate, are thoroughly analyzed in this paper. The A-L method and the micro-element method are used to analyze the mechanical properties of diaphragm spring and cushion plate, respectively. The mechanical characteristics are obtained via numerical simulation, and the deformation and load mechanical characteristics of the cushion plate are verified by experimental tests. According to the relationship between the pressure plate temperature and the friction coefficient of the friction plate, the influence of the change of the friction coefficient on the transmission torque characteristics of the clutch is analyzed. In view of the torque fluctuation in the process of engagement/disengagement, the mathematical model of torsional characteristics is established with consideration of the torsional characteristics of torsional damper. Modeling and simulation of the handling characteristics are carried out to evaluate the influence of the boosting characteristics of the hydraulic operated pneumatic booster on the clutch pedal operating force separation characteristics. Specific tests are also conducted, and the effectiveness of the established models is verified.

Abstract:For improving the performance of steering wheel frame,a method combining numerical simulation with orthogonal experiment is employed.Firstly a model for steering wheel frame is built with its boundary constraint conditions defined and a numerical simulation conducted.Then the influence extents of different factors on experiment results are obtained with range and variance analysis and an optimum combination of design parameter for steering wheel frame is found.On this basis an improving design of frame structure is performed,which is proved by static mechanics and fatigue analyses to meet the design requirements.Finally the prototype test verifies the feasibility and correctness of virtual orthogonal experiment optimization.

Abstract:Arc spring is the key component for Dual Mass Flywheel-Circumferential Spring(DMF-CS) torsional damper,which has been effectively applied in automotive driveline.However,the analysis and design methods for elastic characteristics of arc springs have not been well established yet.The problem is studied,and a set of analytical formulae are derived through an approach of discretization of arc spring.A numerical result is presented and well correlated with experimental result.The influence of rotation speed of DMF-CS torsional damper to the elastic characteristics is also investigated,and the stiffness increase with the speed is illustrated.In addition,other issues including elastic non-linearity of arc springs and the formula simplification are discussed for applications in engineering.The research is of basic importance to the design of DMF-CS torsional damper.

Abstract:Aiming to improve the parameters which influence the performance and ergonomics of the Komiketo Baja UFSJ prototype and to optimize its results during the Baja SAE competitions, a study proposed a new methodology to substitute linear springs for double stage spring. Springs are components with high elastic deformation’s ability that compound the automotive suspension system and they influence the vehicle dynamic performance. The experimentation consists in using the Microsoft Excel software and making a simulation of a model going through an irregular trail presenting high and low oscillation frequencies of the suspension, using MSC Adams Car® software. The test was divided in two stages, one for the operation of the vehicle with linear springs and the other for non-linear springs (double-stage springs). Then, some graphics were presented with the necessary data, aiming to compare the behavior of both suspension conditions, where the vertical acceleration was considered as a comparative criterion. The results were promising presenting improvements as the ergonomics parameters, regarding the linear springs previously used in the vehicle.
Study of the Judder Characteristics of Friction Material for an Automobile Clutch and Test Verification

Abstract:The friction judder characteristics during clutch engagement have a significant influence on the NVH of a driveline. In this research, the judder characteristics of automobile clutch friction materials and experimental verification are studied. First, considering the stick-slip phenomenon in the clutch engagement process, a detailed 9-degrees-of-freedom (DOF) model including the body, each cylinder of the engine, clutch and friction lining, torsional damper, transmission and other driveline parts is established, and the calculation formula of friction torque in the clutch engagement process is determined. Second, the influence of the friction gradient characteristics on the amplification or attenuation of the automobile friction judder is analyzed, and the corresponding stability analysis and the numerical simulation of different friction gradient values are carried out with MATLAB/Simulink software. Finally, judder bench test equipment and a corresponding damping test program are developed, and the relationship between the friction coefficient gradient characteristics and the system damping is analyzed. After a large number of tests, the evaluation basis of the test is determined. The research results show that the friction lining with negative gradient characteristics of the friction coefficient will have a judder signal. When the friction gradient value is less than −0.005 s/m, the judder signal of the measured clutch cannot be completely attenuated, and the judder phenomenon occurs. When the friction gradient is greater than − 0.005 s/m, the judder signal can be significantly suppressed and the system connection tends to be stable.

Abstract:An accurate finite element model of diaphragm spring is established with a consideration of practical factors such as contact and friction between diaphragm spring against press plate and supporting ring. Force-displacement characteristics and stress-displacements characteristics of diaphragm spring are obtained by finite element analysis. The comparison with experiment results indicates that the results of finite element analysis are closer to the results of experiment, so are more accurate than those obtained from the calculation with traditional A-L formula, and can be used in practical design of diaphragm spring.

Abstract:The variation of dynamic accuracy for press systems is the nonlinear phenomenon that results from the consideration of contact and impact on the deformation of transmission mechanism, usually revolute joint and translation joint. The influence is especially obvious in the ultra-precision mechanism, which can cause the vibration and unstabitily of position and machining accuracy would be failure. As usual, the dynamic accuracy is used to evaluate the ability of press systems, which is also the important design object. Due to the stronger nonlinear of dynamic accuracy, especially for the effect of coupling factors, the mathematical analysis method plays an important role in the study of dynamic behavior for press systems. This work proposes the new approach to conduct the simplified dynamic accuracy analysis based on the orthogonal design method, which optimize the reasonability of sample collection. The proposed method is compared with the traditional approach, which illustrates the advantage and efficiency for the dynamic accuracy analysis of press systems.•Developed dynamic accuracy analysis is observed to be effective for the stability evaluation of press systems.•The simplified model of coupling effect analysis is established based on orthogonal design method.•No need to collect a large amount of data for comparison and the reliable nonlinear analysis is conducted with simplified model.

Abstract:This paper presents a simplified friction clutch design, which consists of the dual Belleville spring and the friction plates. This design exploits the preset angle on the Belleville spring to I increase the friction area during operation; thus, the load on spring is reduced at a given transmitted torque. Due to the increasing of friction area, the Belleville spring can also act as a friction plate, and the components required for the clutch can be reduced. The maximum transmittable torque of the clutch is easily adjusted by varying the preload on the Belleville spring. Moreover, it is very easy to assemble the components of the present clutch. To demonstrate the present design, a prototype friction clutch with a Belleville spring has been fabricated and tested. We showed that the transmitted torque remained constant for different operating speeds.

Abstract:This paper uses some type engine as the research object. Inspired by soil animal earthworms of the biological world and friction reduction movement of groove shape, we process grooves in the engine piston skirt's surface. Based on the standard piston's stress distribution, this paper has made nine test plans with the orthogonal experiment method. The boundary conditions of load are theoretically calculated, which apply to finite-element analysis. Then obtained three indexes, they are maximum distortion, maximum stress and maximum load of piston skirt. Comprehensive balance analysis is used in test indexes of optimization design. Finally primary and secondary factors are got, that rank is hole and groove distribution pattern (A) - groove depth(B) - groove wide(C). Optimal level is A2B3C1.

Abstract:In order to study the effects of technological parameters on the boss forming,the process plans are designed for the aviation connector according to its structural characteristics. A blanking and punching compound die is designed to complete the stamping process at the same time. The press forging of boss is simulated by using software of FEM,and optimization of press forging parameters for boss forming is obtained by using orthogonal method. The results show that the order of parameters that influence boss forming is as follows:the punch height,width,friction coefficient,length; when punch size is 5.5 mm×2.5 mm×1.2 mm,the friction coefficient 0.2,the boss forms with good results.
