Abstract:Dyestuffs from the textile and photographic industries are becoming a major source of environmental contaminations. The treatment of dye-containing wastewater by conventional methods has drawback due to difficulties in the complete removal of color and expensive. TiO2 is the most common photocatalyst because it is chemical stability, non-toxicity and low cost. The excitated wavelength of TiO2 can be widened by the treatment of doping or dye sensitizing. The new advances of dyestuffs photocatalytic degradation with TiO2 are reviewed with 39 references.

Abstract:Fenton oxidation is an advanced treatment process for printing and dyeing wastewater. The process conditions（pH value, the dosage of ferrous sulfate, the dosage of hydrogen peroxide, reaction time, etc.） of Fenton oxidation were used to optimize for the treatment of dyeing wastewater,and the cost was calculated for optimization. The results showed that under the process conditions of pH=3.5, ferrous sulfate dosage of 0.15 g/L, 30%hydrogen peroxide dosage of 0.26 ml/L, 30% sodium hydroxide dosage of 0.24 ml/L, and PAM dosage of 1 mg/L, the effluent CODcr average value was 22.8 mg/L, the COD removal rate was 67.5%, and the lowest reagent cost was 0.98 yuan/m~3.

Abstract:The removing effect of activated carbon adsorption-catalytic ozonization process on the characteristic pollutants from printing and dyeing wastewater has been studied.The effects of ozone input flux,activated carbon dosage,and pH on the removing effectiveness of characteristic pollutants are discussed.The synergism of activated carbon-ozone is investigated.The results show that acetophenone is chosen as a kind of characteristic pollutant.The removing effect of activated carbon adsorption-catalytic ozonization on acetophenone increases with the increase of ozone input flux and activated carbon dosage.The removing rate of acetophenone can reach 92.3%,when the optimum conditions are as follows:ozone input flux is 50 mg/L,activated carbon dosage 200 mg/L,pH 10 and reaction time 20 min.

Abstract:A didactical experiment was designed to treat simulated printing and dyeing wastewater prepared with the direct fast light black G by photochemical reactor. The main impact factors to degrade simulated printing and dyeing wastewater by photocatalytic oxidation were studied,including catalyzer,ultraviolet luminous intensity,acidity in the reaction system. The results show that the degradation of the direct fast light black G in simulated printing and dyeing wastewater can be done efficiently by ultraviolet photocatalytic oxidation,the degraded ratio is closely related to adding H2O2,ultraviolet luminous intensity or acidity in the reaction system. The degraded ratio in reaction system with 0. 138% H2O2 is 3. 58 times that without H2O2. The degraded ratio is higher in the reaction system with higher ultraviolet luminous intensity and positively related to the ultraviolet luminous intensity. It is of benefit to increase removed ratio of the direct fast light black G in simulated printing and dyeing wastewater by increasing acidity in the reaction system.

Abstract:The surge in economic growth has spurred the expansion of the textile industry, resulting in a continuous rise in the discharge of printing and dyeing wastewater. In contrast, the photocatalytic method harnesses light energy to degrade pollutants, boasting low energy consumption and high efficiency. Nevertheless, traditional photocatalysts suffer from limited light responsiveness, inadequate adsorption capabilities, susceptibility to agglomeration, and hydrophilicity, thereby curtailing their practical utility. Consequently, integrating appropriate carriers with traditional photocatalysts becomes imperative. The combination of chitosan and semiconductor materials stands out by reducing band gap energy, augmenting reactive sites, mitigating carrier recombination, bolstering structural stability, and notably advancing the photocatalytic degradation of printing and dyeing wastewater. This study embarks on an exploration by initially elucidating the technical principles, merits, and demerits of prevailing printing and dyeing wastewater treatment methodologies, with a focal emphasis on the photocatalytic approach. It delineates the constraints encountered by traditional photocatalysts in practical scenarios. Subsequently, it comprehensively encapsulates the research advancements and elucidates the reaction mechanisms underlying chitosan based composite materials employed in treating printing and dyeing wastewater. Finally, this work casts a forward-looking perspective on the future research trajectory of chitosan based photocatalysts, particularly in the realm of industrial applications.

Abstract:The combined process,optimized two-stage A/O+advanced oxidation,has been used for treating integrat-ed printing and dyeing wastewater. The results show that after being treated by the two-stage A/O biochemical treat-ment process,NH3-N,TN,TP,BOD5 of the tail water are 2.34,9.75,0.67,13.1 mg/L respectively. After the tail wa-ter is treated by Fenton or ozone oxidation process,the effluent COD,and chroma are lower than 60 mg/L and 30 times,respectively. It is met than the First-B of the Discharge Standard of Pollutants in Urban Sewage Treatment Plants. The reaction conditions of Fenton oxidation are as follows:pH is 4-5,hydrogen peroxide 600 mg/L,ferrous sulfate 120 mg/L,and PAM 2 mg/L. The cost of chemicals treatment per ton of water is ￥1.22,lower than the cost of the ozone oxidation method.

Abstract:Through a basic experiment of photocatalysis, the technological conditionas of photocatalysis degradable dye are as follows: light source; low potential lamp; light intensity; 6. 0mW/cm2; exposure time: six hours; initial dye concentration: 50-80mg/L; amount of photocatalyst: 250g/L; pH:4. 0. We compare the two methods for printing and dyeing wastewater treatment; photocatalysis-photosynthesis bateria and photosynthesis bateria were compared. The remove rate of CODcr for the former is about 50% while 30% for the latter.

Abstract:Organic dyes play vital roles in the textile industry, while the discharge of organic dye wastewater in the production and utilization of dyes has caused significant damage to the aquatic ecosystem. This review aims to summarize the mechanisms of photocatalysis, sonocatalysis, and sonophotocatalysis in the treatment of organic dye wastewater and the recent advances in catalyst development, with a focus on the synergistic effect of ultrasound and light in the catalytic degradation of organic dyes. The performance of TiO2-based catalysts for organic dye degradation in photocatalytic, sonocatalytic, and sonophotocatalytic systems is compared. With significant synergistic effect of ultrasound and light, sonophotocatalysis generally performs much better than sonocatalysis or photocatalysis alone in pollutant degradation, yet it has a much higher energy requirement. Future research directions are proposed to expand the fundamental knowledge on the sonophotocatalysis process and to enhance its practical application in degrading organic dyes in wastewater.

Abstract:Dyeing wastewater is one kind of industrial wastewater,high concentration of organics,high chromaticity and alkaline,complex constitution and difficultly bio-degraded.This paper introduces the forming and characteristics of dyeing wastewater,as well as the treatment methods,classified as hysicochemical, chemical and biochemical treatment.The recent advanced techniques are also discussed,such as membrane separation,ultrasonic process,high-energy physical process,advanced oxidation process,electrochemical process,photocatalysis degradation and efficient bacterium process.The effective combination of different treatment methods is put forward and to develop efficient,economical and energy saving dyeing wastewater treatment reactor will be the development orientation of dyeing wastewater treatment research.

Abstract:The wet air oxidation of printing and dying wastewater and its reaction kinetics were investigated in the present work. A COD removal of 56% was obtained after the wastewater was treated with wet air oxidation at 300 ℃ for 120 min. Furthermore, the biodegradability of the wastewater was improved from 0. 04 to 0. 40. The printing and dying wastewater contain many kinds of pollutants, such as dyestuff and dying auxiliary; some of the pollutants are easy to be oxidized, while the others are difficult to be oxidized. A kinetic model for the wet air oxidation of printing and dying wastewater was constructed on the basis of the reaction characters, and the model simulations were in good agreement with experimental data.

Abstract:Aiming at the issue of width band gap, low utilization rate of solar energy and high recombination rate of photogenerated electrons-hole pairs of titanium dioxide photocatalyst, the mechanism of titanium dioxide photocatalysis was described. The methods of modified titanium dioxide such as noble metal modification, ion doping, semiconductor compound,surface photosensitization and the research progress were summarized on the basis of the photocatalysis mechanism. The research progression and application situation of modified titanium dioxide photocatalytic oxidation technology in the industrial and domestic wastewater treatment were discussed. The development prospects of titanium dioxide photocatalytic oxidation technology in water treatment were prospected. The research focuses of this field in future such as optimal combination of several element techniques and supported photocatalyst of titanium dioxide on the porous adsorbent carrier were pointed out.

Abstract:The effluent quality of printing and dyeing wastewater after secondary treatment does not meet industry discharge standards, which poses serious environmental risks. In this work, micro-nano bubbles and a heat-activated persulfate advanced oxidation process were innovatively combined to thoroughly treat industrial printing and dyeing wastewater. Under the optimal reaction conditions (a reaction time of 60В min, persulfate concentration of 20В mM, and temperature of 40В В°C), the effluent quality met the discharge standards. Furthermore, the degradation and transformation mechanisms of dissolved organic matter during the wastewater treatment process were investigated by three-dimensional fluorescence spectroscopy and Fourier ion transform spin resonance mass spectrometry. The results showed that organic compounds in the wastewater were clearly degraded by the treatment process, and this was accompanied by a significant increase in molecular diversity. In summary, this work provides insight into the practical application of micro-nano bubbles in the advanced oxidation treatment of industrial wastewater as well as the degradation mechanism responsible for removing pollutants from this wastewater.

Abstract:The image shows photocatalytic dye degradation using a semiconductor. When exposed to light, electrons (e−) in the valence band are excited to the conduction band, creating electron‐hole pairs. Electrons reduce O2 to O2−, while holes oxidize H2O or OH− to OH· radicals. These reactive species then degrade organic pollutants, like dyes, into CO2 and H2O. This review explores advancements, challenges, and considerations in photocatalytic dye degradation for sustainable wastewater treatment. It highlights smart photocatalyst design, visible‐light‐responsive materials, and co‐catalyst engineering, which enhance system efficacy. Despite environmental concerns, the eco‐friendly aspects of photocatalysis offer a promising alternative to traditional methods. Future perspectives emphasize nanotechnology's role in developing effective photocatalysts and integrating visible‐light and solar‐driven systems to meet sustainability goals. Efforts in co‐catalyst engineering and reactor design aim to optimize processes, addressing kinetic and scalability challenges, while economic research focuses on reducing costs to improve competitiveness.

Abstract:Development in the textile industry leads to an increased demand for the use of various dyes. Moreover, there is the use of some dyes in the food industry as well as medical diagnostics. Thereby, increased demand for dyes in various fields has resulted in dye-containing wastewater. Only a small portion of the generated wastewater is adequately treated. The rest is usually dumped or otherwise directly discharged into the sewage system, which ultimately enters rivers, lakes, and streams. The handling and disposal of such concentrated wastewater, especially the dye-containing wastewater, is considered to be a major environmental issue from the moment of its generation to its ultimate disposal. Conventional water treatment methods such as flotation, filtration, adsorption, etc., are non-destructive physical separation processes. They only transfer the pollutants to other phases, thereby generating concentrated deposits. The advanced oxidation process (AOP) is one of the most effective emerging methods for the treatment of wastewater containing chemical pollutants. The method involves the formation and interaction of highly reactive hydroxyl radicals under suitable activation conditions. These radicals are non-selective and efficient for the destruction and eventual mineralization of recalcitrant organic pollutants. This review aims at the pros and cons of using photocatalysis as an efficient AOP to degrade dye-containing wastewater.

Abstract:The improvement of the effect of pharmaceutical wastewater treatment using photocatalytic process,as well as its economical efficiency,high efficiency,and scope of industrial application of the process all depended on the development of the mathematical model of photocatalytic reaction.The mathematical model of photocatalytic reaction constructed on the basis of the test of practical pharmaceutical wastewater treatment was presented,and the reaction mechanism,removal objects and technical characteristics of the photocatalytic oxidation in pretreatment,single treatment and posttreatment of the pharmaceutical wastewater were elaborated respectively.As the intermediate product may be more toxic,steady and nondegradable than the original pollutants,it should pay more attention to the inspection and the control of the categories,amount and characteristics of the intermediate product of the reaction when studying the pharmaceutical wastewater treatment by photocatalytic oxidation process.Strengthening the study of the reaction route,mechanism,the reaction dynamics ensures a good effect on pharmaceutical wastewater purifying,and is the core of an environmental compatible water treatment technology.Latest foreign research progresses were summarized,and some key problems need to be solved when using photocatalytic oxidation process to treat pharmaceutical wastewater were indicated at last.

Abstract:Photocatalytic optical fibers are promising materials for degrading organic pollutants in wastewater, owing to their low light mass transfer resistance, their high efficiency of light utilization, and their inhibition of photocatalyst deactivation. In particular, optical fibers have been applied for the removal of phenols, dyes, organic acids and antibiotics in wastewater. Yet, optical fibers have limitations such as poor photocatalytic activity and low sustainability. Here, we review the principle and use of photocatalytic optical fibers, including photocatalytic quartz and plastic optical fibers, for the degradation of the organic pollutants in water. We present methods to enhance photocatalytic activity, light utilization efficiency, and adhesion strength by using TiO<sub>2</sub>-based photocatalytic coatings.
