Abstract:In this work, a novel ratiometric fluorescence nanoprobe based on Au3+-triggered aggregation-induced emission (AIE) behavior of silver nanoclusters (Ag NCs) was designed for the label-free detection of biothiols. The probe was constructed by loading of Au3+ on g-C3N4 nanosheets surface and subsequently aggregating Ag NCs via ion binding. As Au3+ could conversely regulate the emission of g-C3N4 nanosheets and Ag NCs, the remove of Au3+ from nanoprobe by coordination with biothiols would change the emission ratio of nanoprobe that could be used for biothiols detection. The probe provided high sensitivity for glutathione (GSH) determination with the limit of detection as low as 0.8 μM and showed satisfying performance in human serum samples. This report may offer a new sight for the construction of ratiometric probe based on the AIE behavior of Ag NCs and broaden its applications in biosensing.

Abstract:To detect silver ions (Ag+) conveniently and rapidly in vitro and in vivo, a selective fluorescent probe with a wide measurement range, AgP, was developed. This probe exhibits a bright green fluorescence with an emission wavelength of 532 nm under 390 nm excitation, and its detection of Ag+ is stable in the pH range of 4-10 with a quench-type fluorescence response. Abstract:To detect silver ions conveniently and rapidly in vitro and in vivo, a selective fluorescent probe with a wide measurement range, AgP, was developed. AgP is also suitable for in vivo imaging of Ag+ in the classical model plant, Arabidopsis thaliana, and 50 μM Ag+ can completely quench its fluorescence, which will provide a new detection tool for studying the distribution of Ag+ in the environment and live plants.

Abstract:Fluorescent sensing methods, because of their simple, cheap, fast, high selectivity and sensitivity , are widely used in the detection of cationic , anionic and other chemicals. Anthraquinone derivatives have many pharmacological activities, rigid planar structure and large ring conjugate system. They have moderate fluorescence emission wavelengths, good optical stabilities and high luminous efficiencies. In this work, anthraquinone derivatives were employed as fluorophore to prepare new fluorescent probes. Based on the mechanism of intramolecular charge transfer (ICT), a series of symmetric bis-1 ,2 ,3-triazole hydrazine derivatives K1 and K2 , which were confirmed by H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR, were designed and synthesized. The spectral properties were also investigated. The structure and theoretical spectrum of K1 were calculated using Gauss View 9. 0 quantization program and time-dependent density functional theory. The results showed that exhibited good selectivity to Ag+ in a mixed solution of DMSO/HEPES (1:7, V/V) . Binding analysis using the method of continuous variations (Job's plot) established that the stoichiometry of K1-Ag+ complex was estimated to be 1:1. The detection limit of K2 for Ag+ was 21. 2 mu mol/L (S/N= 3) . A complexation mechanism of K1-Ag+ was proposed, which was consistent with the calculated results. The fluorescence of K1 was increased dramatically in the presence of Ag+, and it remained nearly constant in the range of pH 6. 0-8.0. Other metal ions , such as Al3+, Ba2+, Cd2+, Co2+, Cr3+, Cu2+, Hg2+, Fe3+, K+, Mn2+, Na+, NH4+, Ni2+, Pb2+ and Zn2+ induced negligible fluorescence increasing for under the same conditions. The synthesized fluorescent probe K1 could be applied to image intracelluar Ag+ in living HepG2 cells , indicating that it was a useful tool in bioanalytical applications.

Abstract:Two novel conjugated polymers containing 2,3-di(pyridin-2-yl)quinoxaline (DPQ) unit (P1) and 2,3-di(thiophen-2-yl)quinoxaline (DTQ) unit (P2) were designed and synthesized through Sonogashira coupling reaction. P1 provided high sensitivity and selectivity to silver ions: color change from green to brown red and fluorescent emission quenching, which can be observed by naked eye, even in the presence of interference cations. However, P2 with the similar polymer backbone to P1 showed no absorption and fluorescence changes toward any cations. Therefore, the DPQ units in P1 exhibited a key role for the selective recognition of Ag+, which was further confirmed by the 1H NMR titration, density functional theory (DFT) calculations and electrochemical studies. These results not only imply that DPQ based conjugated polymer is a promising probe of Ag+ ions but also afford a good guidance to design effective polymer sensors in future.

Abstract:In this work, a one-step solvothermal method using O-phenylenediamine and DL-malic acid was used to obtain blue/yellow-emitting carbon dots (B/Y-CDs). The B/Y-CDs have two independent fluorescence emission peaks centered at 453 nm and 584 nm at a single excitation wavelength. In the presence of silver ions (Ag + ), the fluorescence at 453 nm was quenched and the fluorescence at 584 nm was enhanced by dynamic quenching and redox reaction mechanisms, respectively. The "Double-Response-Reverse" ratiometric fluorescent probes constructed on the basis of the B/Y-CDs showed a good linear relationship with Ag + in the range of 1-90 μM. In addition, the feasibility of this detection strategy for the detection of Ag + in real water samples was verified, and the probe showed satisfactory recoveries, which could be applied to the quantitative analysis of Ag + in real environmental water samples. This work provided a new strategy for the identification and detection of Ag + , enriching the ways of detecting Ag + .

Abstract:A creatively designed and constructed a multifunctional ratiometric fluorescence probe is reported by assembling glutathione (GSH)-protected gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) with fluorescein-doped mesoporous silica nanoparticle (FS) for the detection of Cu 2+ and Ag + ions, which could eliminate most interferences by self-calibration. Under the excitation at 450 nm, the fluorescence connected with AuNCs can rapidly respond by quenching or enhancement, respectively, for Cu 2+ and Ag + ions, while the fluorescein isothiocyante (FITC) fluorescence served as reference with negligible change. The fluorescence intensity ratio showed good linear relationships with Cu 2+ and Ag + concentrations in the range 0.5–10 μM and 0.1–8 μM, respectively. The detection limits were as low as 140 nM and 60 nM for Cu 2+ and Ag + ions, respectively. The color change induced by fluorescent intensity ratio variation could also be employed for visual discrimination. The AuNC-embedded FS (FS-Au) nanoprobe was successfully used for Cu 2+ and Ag + ion determination in drinking water and intracellular Cu 2+ imaging, which exhibits promising prospects in cost-effective and rapid determination of both Cu 2+ and Ag + with good sensitivity and selectivity.

Abstract:Among heavy metals silver ions (Ag+) severely impact water, the environment and have serious side effects on human health. This article proposes a facile and ultrasensitive fluorescent probe for the detection of Ag+ ions using SYBR Green I (SGI) and cytosine-rich (C-rich) silver-specific oligonucleotide (SSO). Maximum fluorescent intensities with the highest sensitivity were obtained using a 0.61 dye/SSO base ratio (DBR). The established sensing principle using the optimized parameters for bath temperature, SSO concentration, DBR, ionic strength, pH, reaction time, incubation duration and temperature effect achieved a sensitive limit of detection of 59.9 nM for silver ions (calculated through 3 sigma, n = 11) with a linear working range of 100-1000 nM and 0.997 R-2. The total time for one assay is below 10 min; The relative standard derivation for ten repeated measurements is 8.6%. No blatant interferences were observed in the selectivity test when fluorescent probe is evaluated by investigating the effects of 11 common interference factors in the aqueous matrix. In extreme cases, three false-negative factors were observed, including calcium hardness, magnesium hardness, and hypochlorite. The recovery ratios were within the range of 79 similar to does not satisfy 110% for three types of diluted water.

Abstract:In the current work, we report a label-free fluorescence turn-on approach for the sensitive and selective sensing of Ag+. A cationic perylene derivative, compound A, was used as the fluorescence probe. Compound A monomer is strongly fluorescent, and the fluorescence can be efficiently quenched through self-aggregation (self-assembly). A cytosine (C)-rich oligonucleotide, oligo-C, was employed. In the absence of Ag+, oligo-C induced strong compound A aggregation due to electrostatic interactions in aqueous media, and very weak fluorescence signal was detected. However, in the presence of Ag+, the specific interactions between oligo-C and Ag+ induced hairpin structure formation of oligo-C through C–Ag+–C bonding interactions. Oligo-C binding to compound A aggregates was weakened; therefore, compound A monomer could be released and detected. The intensity of the fluorescence signal was directly related to the amount of Ag+ added to the assay solution. Our method is highly sensitive—a limit of detection of 5nM was obtained—and also very selective. Ag+ detection in complex sample mixtures was also demonstrated.

Abstract:Water-soluble cadmium telluride quantum dots capped with mercaptosuccinic acid (MSA-CdTe QDs) were prepared for the selective and sensitive fluorescence probing of silver(I) ion. The fluorescence intensity of the MSA-CdTe QDs could be quenched only in the presence of Ag+, and the relative fluorescence intensity was decreased as a linear function of Ag+ concentration. Moreover, the proposed sensor was free from common interfering metal ions. The MSA-CdTe QDs were 3.0 nm in particle size and the maximum photoluminescence wavelength was 558 nm. Better sensitivity was obtained with 4.5 x 10(-4) mol L-1 MSA-CdTe QDs in 200 mmol L-1 phosphate buffer (pH 9.0) for a reaction time of 30 min. A linear response between the relative fluorescence intensity, and the concentration of Ag+ was obtained over the range 0.4 to 8 mmol L-1, with a relative standard deviation of 3.6% (n = 5) for 1.5 mmol L-1 and a detection limit of 54 nmol L-1. The proposed method was applied for the determination of Ag+ in two fixer samples at the mmol L-1 level. The spike recovery at a spiked level of 15 mmol L-1 varying from 89.4% to 92.3%, and good agreement between the results by the proposed and AAS methods proved the accuracy of the proposed method.

Abstract:Silver is a common catalyst in industrial production, and the frequent use of Ag+ can cause water pollution. Thus, the detection of Ag+ in the environment is necessary to determine the level of pollution from silver. In this work, we designed a new, highly selective near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe QCy to detect Ag+. The probe exhibits “turn-off” fluorescence quenching responses at 760 nm towards Ag+ over other relevant cations, with outstanding sensitivity and a low detection limit (0.03 μM), which is considerably lower than the standard of the World Health Organization (WHO) for drinking water (0.9 μM). Meanwhile, QCy showed a very good linearity at a low concentration of Ag+ with a ‘naked eye’ visible color change of solution from blue to red. The probe has been applied successfully for the detection of Ag+ in real water samples.

Abstract:Multi-functional fluorescent probes have attracted more interest recently. Herein, two simple fluorescent probes (FAS and DPAS) from AIEgens with the ESIPT process of salicylaldehyde Schiff-base structures are developed. The aggregates of FAS and DPAS exhibit good selectivity and sensitivity towards Cu2+ in aqueous media without any water-miscible organic solutions as buffers. Their larger association constants and appropriate hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties play key roles in achieving lower detection limits. Based on their fluorescence on/off processes in the presence or absence of Hg2+, the composite probes are further prepared.

Abstract:We report a label-free fluorescence turn-on approach for the sensitive and selective sensing of silver ion Ag(+) based on Ag(+) induced conformational change of cytosine-rich single-stranded DNA. A silver specific oligonucleotide (SSO) undergoes a structural transition from single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) to a C-Ag(+)-C mediated hairpin structure, which can be recognized by a double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) intercalator Sybr Green I (SG). The linear response range for Ag(+) detection was from 1 nM to 100 nM. The method presented here is highly sensitive and a limit of detection of 1 nM was obtained. More importantly, this optical method was successfully used to identify complex sample mixtures.

Abstract:A ratiometric fluorometric assay for silver(I) is described. The method makes use of a dually emitting quantum dot hybrid, which is composed of (a) blue-fluorescent silicon- and nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (CQDs), and (b) of red-emitting CdTe quantum dots (QDs) capped with N-acetyl-L-cysteine. The red-emitting CdTe QDs undergo strong and specific quenching by Ag(I), whereas the blue-emitting N,Si-CQDs are not quenched. The two kinds of QDs are mixed and used as a ratiometric fluorescent probe. A linear relationship is found between the log of intensities [(I608/I441)0/(I608/I441)] and the concentration of Ag(I) in the range from 5.0–1000 nM, and the limit of detection (at S/N = 3) is 1.7 nM. Possible interferents (including 17 general metal ions, 12 anions and fulvic acid) do not interfere with the determination. The assay was successfully used for the determination of Ag(I) in surface water and wastewater samples. The fluorescence quenching mechanism of the ratiometric assay system was also discussed in detailed.

Abstract:In this work, an efficient and sensitive fluorometric sensor was developed to detect silver ions (Ag+). It is based on the cytosine–Ag+–cytosine (C–Ag+–C) structure via a dual-signal amplification strategy using glucose oxidase (GOx) and the hybridization chain reaction (HCR). A silver-coated glass slide (SCGS) acts as an ideal material for separation. Cytosine rich (C-rich) capture DNA (C-DNA) assembled themselves on the SCGS via Ag–S bonds and hybridized with signal DNA (S-DNA) to trigger the HCR. With specific base-pairing, the S-DNA and HCR products bind on the SCGS. Then, the GOx–biotin–streptavidin (SA) complexes bind to the HCR products through SA–biotin interactions. Owing to the formation of a particular C–Ag+–C structure between two neighboring C-rich C-DNA on the SCGS, the C-DNA/S-DNA/HP1-GOx/HP2-GOx complex gradually moved away from the SCGS as the concentration of Ag+ increased and the combined GOx fell into the buffer. H2O2 could be generated during the oxidation of glucose, catalyzed by GOx in the buffer. Afterward, H2O2 could oxidize the substrate (3-(p-hydroxyphenyl)-propanoic acid) when Horseradish peroxidase was present, giving rise to blue fluorescence. The proposed strategy reached a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.8 pmol L−1 with a linear detection range of 5 to 1000 pmol L−1 for Ag+. Moreover, this assay has been commendably used for the detection of Ag+ in actual samples with fairly good results.

Abstract:Detection of silver ions (Ag+) in living cells has becoming more and more attractive due to the important biological impact of Ag+ on cellular functions. Here, we put forward a new approach to realize the in situ fluorescence imaging and detection of Ag+ in single cells via an ultrasensitive Ag+-responsive probe, 3',6'-bis (diethylamino)-2-(2-iodoethyl) spiro[isoindoline-1,9'-xanthen]-3-one (BDISIX). In the presence of Ag+, the fluorescence of the probe can be turned 'on', generating strong red fluorescence. Using breast cancer cells (MCF-7) as the example, we successfully realize the imaging of intracellular Ag+ through one-step incubation of the probe, which is especially convenient and fast for the in situ intact detection of Ag+ in living cells.

Abstract:Analytical methods capable of facile screening of silver ore samples are of vital importance for resource exploration and ore mining. Due to its extreme simplicity, colorimetric detection is desired for silver ore screening, but the analytical sensitivity of existing approaches is typically not sufficient.
