Abstract:A systematic investigation of structure and magnetic properties of the compounds R3Fe29-xTx (R=Y, Ce, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, and Dy; T=V and Cr) and their nitrides, carbides and hydrides has been performed. The nitrogenation and carbonization lead to a good improvement in the Curie temperature, the saturation magnetization and anisotropy fields at 4.2 K and room temperature, but the hydrogenation results in a good improvement for some hydrides and an obvious degeneration for other hydrides in the magnetic properties. The uniaxial anisotropy and the good intrinsic magnetic properties of Sm3Fe29-xTxNy and Sm3Fe29-xTxCy make these compounds the hopeful candidates for new high- performance hard magnets.

Abstract:The crystallographic structures and magnetic properties of the nitrides of R2Fe17, R2Fe14B and RTiFe11 have been investigated using X-ray diffraction techniques and magnetic measurements. Nitrogen is found to have the effect of increasing the Curie temperature, as it expands the lattice. Moreover, a distinct effect on the magnetocrystalline anisotropy is observed in the nitride compounds. The lattice parameters and magnetic properties of R2Fe17Nx, R2Fe14BNx and RTiFe11Nx are reported for R ≡ Y, SmandNd.

Abstract:The crystallographic and magnetic properties of the series of R2Fe17CNx, where R=Y, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, and Er have been investigated in comparison with those of R2Fe17C and R2Fe17N3−δ. The results indicate that Sm2Fe17CNx, which possesses a higher Curie temperature, a larger saturation magnetization, and a stronger anisotropy field than Sm2Fe17C or Sm2Fe17Nx, seems to be a more favorable candidate for permanent magnet applications.

Abstract:Single phase Y3(Fe,Mo)29Nx nitride has been synthesized at 803 K for 2 h by gas phase reaction under a nitrogen atmosphere. The nitride retains the structure of the parent compound. The unit cell volume of the nitride is 5.3% greater than that of the parent compound, the Curie temperature increases from 376 K for the parent compound to 659 K for the nitride, and the average Fe moments from 1.8 μB in the parent compound to 2.08 μB in the nitride.

Abstract:We found that the nitrogen atoms can enter into the R2Fe14B structure by a proper heat treatment in nitrogen atmosphere. The crystallographic structure and magnetic properties of R2Fe14BNx, R=Nd and Y, have been investigated by using x-ray and neutron diffraction techniques as well as magnetic measurements. The neutron diffraction data show that the nitrogen atoms occupy the 4f interstices. The interstitial nitrogen atoms were found to have an effect of enhancing Curie temerature, whereas, decreasing saturation magnetization and magneto-crystalline anisotropy. The relationship of the crystal structure and the intrinsic magnetic properties of this crystal is discussed.

Abstract:We succeed in inserting a number of nitrogen atoms into the RTiFe11 intermetallics. The nitrides retain the ThMn12-type structure, but with an increase in the unit cell volume. The crystallographic sites located by nitrogen atoms are determined by using neutron diffraction techniques. The nitrogen atoms are found to have an effect of increasing Curie temperature and saturation magnetization. Moreover, an essential change in magnetocrystalline anisotropy is observed upon nitrogenation. By all of these effects, the NdTiFe11N1−δ compounds have excellent intrinsic magnetic properties favorable for permanent magnet applications.

Abstract:By a proper thermal treatment, the nitrogen atoms can enter the R2Fe17 structure. The crystallographic and intrinsic magnetic properties as well as their relationship have been studied by magnetic measurements, X-ray and neutron diffraction techniques. The neutron data indicate that the nitrogen atoms occupy the interstitial sites in the Th2Zn17-type rhom-bohedral structure. The inserting nitrogen atoms are found to dilate the cell volume, increase the Curie temperature and enhance the saturation moment by raising the difference in the electron number between the spin-up and spin-down 3d subbands of the Fe atoms. Furthermore, the nitrogen atoms have an important effect on the magnetocrystallic anisotropy, which results in an easy axis with Sm2Fe17N2.4. All these make Sm2Fe17N2.4 favorable for permanent magnet applications.

Abstract:RFe10.5Mo1.5Cx (R = Y, Nd, and Dy; x = 0 - 0.6) have been successfully synthesized by are melting, then followed by a gas-solid phase reaction to form YFe10.5Mo1.5CxNy. X-ray diffraction studies and thermomagnetic analysis show that all samples are of good single phase, and carbides and carbon nitrides remain the ThMn12-type structure. The addition of carbon atoms has an effect of improving the magnetic properties. Both Curie temperature and saturation magnetization are found to be increased with carbon concentration x in the RFe10.5Mo1.5Cx series, and the carbon atoms also affect the magnetocrystalline anisotropy. The easy axial anisotropy of NdFe10.5Mo1.5Cx and DyFe10.5Mo1.5Cx is enhanced. As to the nitrides, the results indicate that YFe10.5Mo1.5CxNy possess a higher Curie temperature and a larger saturation magnetization than YFe10.5Mo1.5Ny, which is of significance in the technical applications. Abstract:Iron-rich ternary intermetallic compound Nd-3(Fe, Mo)(29) with the Nd-3(Fe, Ti)(29)-type monoclinic structure and its nitride were prepared. The intrinsic magnetic properties, magnetic phase transitions, and the magnetocrystalline anisotropy, have been investigated. The results show that the Curie temperature of Nd-3(Fe, Mo)(29) nitride is 675 K, which is 70.9 % higher than that of parent compound (395 K), the saturation magnetization as and anisotropy fields H-A are 151.0 Am-2/kg and 14.0 T at 4.2 K, 116.0 Am-2/kg and 1.6 T at 300 K for Nd-3(Fe, Mo)(29) compound, 161.0 Am-2/kg and 18.0 T at 4.2 K, 143.5 Am-2/kg and 4.2 T at 300 K for Nd-3(Fe, Mo)(29 )N-x nitride, respectively; the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of the Nd-3(Fe, Mo)(29) compound is planar above about 230 K and easy cone from 4.2 to 230 K, after nitrogenation, the spin reorientation phenomenon was no longer observed.

Abstract:We have succeeded in preparing RFe10.5V1.5 compounds and their corresponding nitrides RFe10.5V1.5Nx, where R=Y, Ce, Nd, Sm, Gd, Td, Dy, Ho, and Er. The structural and magnetic properties of RFe10.5V1.5Nx have been investigated by x-ray diffraction techniques and magnetic measurements and compared with those of RFe10.5V1.5, NdFe10.5V1.5Nx is a new potential hard magnetic material with excellent intrinsic magnetic properties.

Abstract:We have carried out neutron diffraction measurements on powder samples of Nd2Fe17Nx and Y2Fe17Nx at room temperature. The refinements of the neutron data indicate that the nitrogen atoms occupy the 9e interstices in the nitride Nd2Fe17Nx (Th2Zn17 type, R3̄m) or the 6h interstices in the nitride Y2Fe17Nx (Th2Ni17 type, P63/mmc), respectively. At room temperature, both Nd2Fe17Nx and Y2Fe17Nx adopt a magnetic structure in which the easy magnetization direction is perpendicular to the c axis. Using the above results, we have briefly discussed the effect of a nitrogenation on the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of the Sm sublattice of Sm2Fe17Nx.

Abstract:A systematic study on the structural and magnetic properties of the Rfe10.5V1.5Nx series, where R=Y, Ce, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, has been carried out by X-ray diffraction and magnetic measurements. Rfe10.5V1.5Nx compounds show a higher Curie temperature and a larger saturation magnetization due to the lower content of V compared with Rfe10V2Nx In NdRfe10.5V1.5Nx the c-axis is the easy axis from 0 K to Tc, the anisotropy field is up to 185 kOe at 1.5 k and 102 kOe at room temperature with a combination of a high Curie temperature of 784 K and a large room temperature saturation magnetization of 139.1 emu/g, the intrinsic magnetic properties are favourable for permanent magnet applications.

Abstract:> The crystallographic structure and intrinsic magnetic properties have been investigated in the RTiFe 11 ,RTiCo 11 and RTi(Fe 1-X Ni X ) 11 compounds,where R represents Nd,Sm,Gd,Tb,Dy,Ho,Er and Y.Neutrondiffraction and Mossbauer spectra analyses have been used to study the nuclear and magnetic structure ofthese compounds.the Fe,Co,Ni and Ti atoms are found to exhibit strong site preference with f and j sites fa-voring Fe,Co and Ni atoms and the i site Ti atoms.Two different types of magnetic behavior were observed inthe RTiFe 11 and RTiCo 11 compounds.In the former,the interatomic distance and the number of nearestneighbor atoms play essential roles.In particular,anomalous thermal expansion behavior is presented inRTiFe 11 .In the latter,the magnetic properties are essentially determined by the modification of the cobaltelectronic configuration brought about by the transfer of rare earth conduction electrons to the transition 3dband.The saturation magnetization,Curie temperature and magnetocrystalline anisotropy data of RTiFe 11 ,RTiCo 11 and YTi(Fe 1-X Ni X ) 11 are presented.A tempt to improve the intrinsic magnetic properties inRTiFe 11 has been made,and the results are reported.On the basis of the crystalline field theory by using asingle-ion model,the anisotropy constants and their temperature dependence of the R ions have been calcu-lated,which helps explain the spin reorientation observed in RTiFe 11 .

Abstract:The studies of the crystallographic and magnetic properties of R2Fe14BN1−δ, where R represents Nd and Y, have been carried out by neutron diffraction techniques and magnetic measurements. Upon nitrogenation, the tetragonal structure of R2Fe14B is retained, but the unit cell volume is slightly increased. The refinement of neutron data indicates the nitrogen atoms occupy the 4f interstices in the nitrite of Y2Fe14B. In the consequence of filling these interstices, the Curie temperatures of these nitrides are increased about 60 K, wheres, their saturation moments and anisotropy fields are a little inferior to their virginal counterparts. In order to explain the changes of the magnetic properties, we give a brief discussion about the relationship between the magnetic properties and the crystallographic structure of these nitrides.

Abstract:The structural and magnetic properties of NdTiFe11N0.5 and YTiFe11N0.5 have been studied. The nitrides retain the tetragonal ThMn12 structure and their unit cell volumes slightly increase. Abstract:A systematic study of the phase formation, structure and magnetic properties of the R3Fe29-xTx compounds (R=Y, Ce, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, and Dy; T=V and Cr) has been performed upon hydrogenation. The lattice constants and the unit cell volume of R3Fe29-xTxHy decrease with increasing R atomic number from Nd to Dy, except for Ce, reflecting the lanthanide contraction. Regular anisotropic expansions mainly along the a- and b-axis rather than along the c-axis are observed for all of the compounds upon hydrogenation. Hydrogenation leads to an increase in the Curie temperature and a corresponding increase in the saturation magnetization at room temperature for each compound. First order magnetization processes (FOMP) occur in the external magnetic fields for Nd3Fe24.5Cr4.5H5.0, Tb3Fe27.0Cr2.0H2.8, and Gd3Fe28.0Cr1.0H4.2 compounds.
