Abstract:This paper argues that geography has a prominent, though at present underdeveloped, role to play in the moral education of young people. The need for geography teachers at all levels to engage students effectively with matters, themes and issues associated with ‘supercomplex’ environmental processes of various kinds, in a global context, requires the application of morally careful teaching. This is the case with respect to both the way selected content is handled in the classroom and the curriculum context in which it is placed. These are arguments which reassert the prime importance of identifying the educational goals of geography programmes. The paper goes on to recommend the rediscovery by geography teachers of ‘values education’ strategies to allow students to engage in the dialectic between universals and relativities simultaneously. There are particular reasons why at school level the moral dimension of geography has been marginalised over recent years, and these are discussed in the paper. The paper also takes care to distinguish the promotion of environmental values and such like from educational values which require students to make judgements through the careful reading of information, argument and a propensity to reconsider what is right. The paper as a whole therefore considers the question of what geography is for.

Abstract:In the context of the implementation of the fundamental task of making people moral, the implementation of curriculum ideology and politics has become an inevitable trend of educational reform and development. In order to implement General Secretary's instruction that “all courses should be based on morality and provide courses that serve students' growth and success”, this study analyzes the connotation, value orientation and practice path of curriculum ideology and politics, combines the characteristics of geography, and mines out the rich elements of curriculum ideology and politcs in the teaching of geography in high school and proposes the application strategies. Abstract:Middle school moral education not only plays the role of guidance, motivation, and assurance in adolescent education and school work but also has great significance in promoting social civilization and progress. In order to make moral education become more permeable, vivid, and colorful, it is required to persuade people with reason and move a man with emotion, so as to achieve a subtle effect. Also, it builds an explicit and implicit system by exploring the middle school moral education practices. The explicit moral education activities and implicit moral education activities are inextricably linked as a joint force, which makes the school moral education work quite effective. In the former one, it makes further practical and exploration activities in developing the class moral education, upholding the theme and etiquette education of “the Four Cardinal Principles”, inheriting the "benevolence" value of education and practice education, and resisting the bad information about the moral education. The latter one, it focuses on the following three aspects of implicit moral education: teachers' virtue and deeds, family education, and game activities.

Abstract:Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) had become a priority in many school systems. Geography has a tradition of investigating human-environment interactions and geography education is vital to make sense of sustainable development (SD). In this paper, the authors aimed to contribute to the implementation of ESD and SD in middle school geography, in The People’s Republic of China. This research employed a series of methods to analyze the content in (SD) in middle school geography standards and textbooks. The research surveyed geography teachers (n = 237) and assessed geography students (n = 246). Results exemplified both positive and negative conclusions from the data. Primarily, the findings suggested that geography education was important to ESD implementation, although the requirements for SD are low in the selected middle schools. The SD content was reflected clearly in the content standards and textbooks, but it was not evenly distributed in geography education. Many geography teachers in China have ample geography and interdisciplinary knowledge and they can use textbooks and other teaching methods to teach SD. The students’ performance, in a sample of four key schools, was considered “OK”, however there was still room for improvement. Most students were familiar with people, resources, environmental problems, and climate change, however, most were unable to grasp the factual knowledge about SD, such as international events and documents, latest predicted data, and research on global warming, as well as the indicators used in the specific SD assessment. Suggestions include providing students with more practical activities and a chance to do hands-on experiments, as well as building student organizations and clubs, improve Teachers’ knowledge, and understanding through teacher training program and build a platform for communicating ideas of SD through modern communication technology. Ideas of SD should be integrated into students’ daily life.

Abstract:Moral education is the fundamental task of education. It does not only include the inheritance of the fine traditional thoughts of the Chinese nation, but also the deepening of the new era of education concept with the new development in this changing world. Moral education has been widely implemented in the practical education process of colleges and universities and has achieved some outstanding results, but there are still some areas to be improved. Teachers in colleges and universities are the key to implement the concept of moral education, and classroom teaching is the main channel for the implementation of moral education. Therefore, teachers in colleges and universities need to deeply understand the essence and connotation of moral education, accurately grasp the practical problems existing in moral education, focus on the curriculum construction and the main channel of the classroom, and make every effort to exercise curriculum ideology and politics.

Abstract:With the ongoing implementation of the new curriculum reform and the "double reduction" policy, there is an increasing emphasis on cultivating students' values and instilling correct outlooks on life and the world. Middle school moral and legal education plays a crucial role in shaping students' future development. However, the current moral and legal literacy among middle school students is generally low. This paper examines the effectiveness of moral and legal education in middle schools and proposes improvement suggestions. The key focus is on textbook-based education, student-centered approaches, and value-oriented teaching. The paper suggests measures such as carefully selecting teaching content, optimizing teaching methods, fostering teacher-student communication, and promoting group exploration and cooperation to create efficient and effective classrooms. By navigating the intricate interplay between curriculum reform and educational policy, this study sheds light on the multifaceted facets of moral and legal education's role in nurturing ethical and responsible citizens. The proposed recommendations underscore the importance of adaptable teaching methodologies and holistic engagement to bridge the existing gap in moral and legal literacy among middle school students. As a result, this research contributes to the ongoing discourse on curriculum transformation and pedagogical efficacy, aiming to empower educators and educational stakeholders to shape a brighter educational landscape for future generations.

Abstract:“Physical Geography” is a course to study human beings and the environment, revealing the basic characteristics, formation mechanism and development laws of various physical geography elements, with rich ideological and political elements and high moral value, and is an important course to cultivate geographical professional interests and enhance national pride. By fully sorting out the ideological and political resources contained in the curriculum, deeply excavating the ideological and political elements, and reasonably designing the integration, this paper analyzed the dimensions of ideological and political education in the physical geography curriculum. Taking professional knowledge as the main line, the educational elements in five aspects were refined, namely, philosophical thinking, power of a big country, patriotism, strict science, and aesthetic education. This paper established the ideological and political element system of the curriculum, and achieve d the moral education of the professional curriculum moisturizing and silent effect.
Exploring the issue of a lack of cohesion in moral education: An empirical study in Chinese primary and secondary schools

Abstract:The purpose of the present study was to explore the issue of a perceived lack of cohesion in moral education in mainland China, and place it in an international academic context, by comparing three student cohorts: grade three and grade six in Primary School and the third year in Junior High School. The study employed mixed research methods; utilising the Chinese Code for Primary and Secondary-School Students as a blueprint for designing a student self-assessment survey. A total of 695 questionnaires were obtained from the three student cohorts, in addition to 25 semi-structured teacher interviews. The findings concur with and add richness to existing policy documents and academic sources. They reveal the perceived symptom of a lack of cohesion in moral education, represented by a U-curve phenomenon based on students' self-assessment survey results, and corroborated by teacher interviews, where the middle-cohort students are lagging behind the other two cohorts. These findings are compared to other internationally recorded 'dips' in moral developmental trajectories. The findings indicate two possible explanations for this phenomenon, and suggestions are offered for educators and policy makers on improving cohesion in moral education.

Abstract:Curriculum ideological and political education is an effective way to cultivate talents for socialist construction in the new era. Human geography urgently needs the integration of curriculum ideology and politics. Under the background of new requirements in the new era, the ideological and political construction of curriculum is explored. By excavating the ideological and political elements of human geography curriculum, starting from the concept of national conditions, life values, sustainable development concept, and human-land coordination concept, this paper explores the corresponding integration points of ideological and political elements in each chapter, and integrates the ideological and political contents such as world outlook, political outlook, moral outlook, outlook on life, and rule of law into the human geography classroom, so as to cultivate students' cognitive ability and practical ability, improve their social responsibility and ability to identify right and wrong, and realize the educational effect of “moistening things silently”.

Abstract:Objectives: Since the 21st century, the cultivation of talents has shifted from the "core of knowledge" to the "core of literacy", which is also an emphasis on and attention to the core literacy of students. The elementary education policy represents an important measure in China's comprehensive quality education, and it puts forward higher requirements on the content and evaluation standards of basic art education. Ideological and moral education has always been highly valued in China. Moral education courses are compulsory public courses for students from elementary school to middle school across the country. The contradiction between the development and prosperity of moral education and the ideological and moral problems of students in the compulsory education stage is thought provoking. It is imperative to reform the existing moral education work. Giving full play to the moral education function of art education in elementary education is a popular and effective way for students in elementary and middle schools. Abstract:With increasing development of geographical information technology, the means and methods of geography class teaching are developing as well. This paper aims at the study how Google Earth assists us with geographical teaching in middle school. Firstly, this paper makes a brief introduction of the function of Google Earth as well as their advantages applied in geography class teaching. Then, the methods of applying Google Earth to geography educational content in middle school are described. Abstract:In this paper,98 modern primary and secondary school geography textbooks from the late Qing Dynasty are compiled and divided into three main categories: self-published textbooks led by subject experts,printed textbooks organised by new publishing institutions and foreign-language geography textbooks translated by foreign students. Moreover, the paper analyses the progressiveness of science and democracy and the shackles of feudalism and conservatism, taking into account the social trends, the nature of the regime, the cultural traditions and the mentality of the people of a particular period. Furthermore, the study of geography textbooks is placed in the macro-historical context of a hundred years ago and combined with dynamic and open qualitative analysis, that provides a mirror for contemporary geography textbook construction. Especially, the geography curriculum standards are supposed to be considered as the orientations of geography textbooks writing, that highlights the values of geography curriculum. It is essential to conduct a multi-lerel team in order to promote the diversification. Meanwhile, the rural geography editing can be regards as the entry point to bolster cultural selfconfidence and identity.

Abstract:Purpose: This article provides a historical overview of the progress made in the moral education curriculum (MEC) reform of China’s elementary and middle schools in the 21st century and discusses its future prospects. Design/Approach/Methods: The main methods used were textual and policy analyses. Findings: While China’s MEC reform is characterized by an openness and modernity achieved through international dialogue, it remains distinctively Chinese. The continued development and improvement of MEC reform can only occur through the careful handling of the various relationships between China and the international community, traditionality and modernity, central and local authorities, as well as theory and practice. Originality/Value: In addition to providing greater insights into and understanding of China’s new MEC reform, this article suggests several ideas for the further development of educational reform.
