Analysis on Shearing Capacity of Concrete Beams with Corroded Stirrups

Abstract:The experiment of two series of beam specimens,on which current was applied to accelerate the corrosion of reinforcement,was carried out to investigate the shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams with corroded stirrups.Based on available experimental data,the effects of corroded stirrups on the shear resistance of reinforced concrete beams were analyzed.At the light level of stirrup corrosion,the shear resistance increases,while the shear strength decreases with the increasing stirrup corrosion when the corrosion level exceeds 10%;the reduction of concrete section has significant influence on the resistance,particularly of deep beams whose shear resistance depends more on concrete contribution.An empirical relationship between the shearing capacity of concrete beam and the section loss of stirrups was established,which can be conveniently used for the practical application.
