Abstract:Pyridones/isoquinolones are a kind of important nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds, which have good biological activity and unique chemical properties, and play an important role in synthesis chemistry, functional materials, biomedicine and so on. Recently, transition-metal-catalyzed C-H activation has emerged as a more atom- and step-economical strategy for the construction of functionalized pyridones/isoquinolones, and it has attracted the attention of many organic chemists. Herein, the recent advances in transition-metal-catalyzed C-H activation of pyridone/isoquinolone derivatives are summarized according to the types of metal catalysis. An emphasis on the discussion of catalytic system, reaction mechanisms, substrate scopes and synthetic applications is also introduced. Finally, the limitations and development trend of this research field are analyzed and prospected.

Abstract:In the past two decades, transition-metal-catalyzed keto carbonyl-directed C-H bond activation has evloved as a powerful and convenient tool for the construction of C-C and C-X (X＝N, F, O) bonds at the unconventional reaction sites of ketones.Among them, keto carbonyl-directed C-H bond activation reactions catalyzed by noble metals, involving ruthenium, rhodium, palladium and iridium, have been widely explored, whilst inexpensive 3d metals, such as manganese, iron and cobalt, have gradually emerged as hotspot catalysts in keto carbonyl-directed C-H activation reactions recently.In this review, advances on transition-metal-catalyzed keto carbonyl-directed C-H bond functionalization reactions from 2014 to 2021 are summarized, which are devided by reaction categories such as alkylation, alkenylation, amidation, arylation, cyclization, and so on.

Abstract:Diazo compounds had been widely employed as a class of environment friendly and highly efficient coupling reagents in transition-metal-catalyzed C-H bonds insertion reactions.Recently, C-H alkylation of various arenes and heteroarenes has been achieved enormous successes using diazo compounds as the alkylation reagents under a new catalytic model.The recent progress in diazo compounds mediated transition-metal-catalyzed C-H alkylation and tandem C-H alkylation/cyclization is reviewed, including reaction mechanism and synthetic applications.Furthermore, the prospects of this reaction are also discussed.

Abstract:Halogenation is one of the most important reactions in organic synthesis. Recently, transition-mental-catalyzed C-H halogenation has emerged as a powerful and economical strategy for the synthesis of organohalides. In this review, we summarize recent advances on transition-metal-catalyzed halogenation of unactivated C-H bonds, according to the types of transition metals (palladium, copper, rhodium, ruthenium, and cobalt), the scope of reactions and mechanism. Finally, the limitations and perspectives on C-H halogenation are also described.

Abstract:In the past decade, transition-metal-catalyzed C-H activations have been very popular in the research field of organometallic chemistry, and have been considered as efficient and convenient strategies to afford complex natural products, functional advanced materials, fluorescent compounds, and pharmaceutical compounds. In this account, we begin with a brief introduction to the development of transition-metal-catalyzed C-H activation, especially the development of transition-metal-catalyzed chelation-assisted C-H activation. Then, a more detailed discussion is directed towards our recent studies on the transition-metal-catalyzed chelation-assisted oxidative C-H/C-H functionalization of aromatic substrates bearing directing functional groups.

This paper reviewed recent works on the synthesis of 21 types of frequently-encountered molecules from simple N-containing compounds catalyzed by various transition-metals.

Abstract:Transition metal-catalyzed direct functionalization of C-H bonds is one of the key emerging strategies that is currently attracting tremendous attention with the aim to provide alternative environmentally friendly and efficient ways for the construction of C-C and C-hetero bonds. In particular, the strategy involving regioselective C-H activation assisted by various functional groups shows high potential, and significant achievements have been made in both the development of novel reactions and the mechanistic study. In this review, we attempt to give an overview of the development of utilizing the functionalities as directing groups. The discussion is directed towards the use of different functional groups as directing groups for the construction of C-C and C-hetero bonds via C-H activation using various transition metal catalysts. The synthetic applications and mechanistic features of these transformations will be discussed, and the review is organized on the basis of the type of directing groups and the type of bond being formed or the catalyst.

Abstract:Carbon–sulfur bonds widely exist in natural products, pesticides, and drugs, and their activation, cleavage, and transformation via transition metal catalysis have become more and more important in organic chemistry. During the past several decades, great progress on transition-metal catalyzed carbon–sulfur activation of thioesters and their transformations has been achieved. Carbon–sulfur bonds linking to both heteroaryl and aryl groups can be cleaved to construct carbon–carbon bonds by coupling reactions or to construct carbon–hydrogen bonds by reductions. This perspective is focused on recent advances in cleavage and transformations of transition-metal-catalyzed carbon–sulfur bonds.

Abstract:Amination and amidation of aryl compounds using a transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction typically involves prefunctionalization or preoxidation of either partner. In recent years, a new class of transition-metal-catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative coupling reaction has been developed for the direct formation of aryl C–N bonds. Throughout this review, an emphasis is placed on reactions that are (or may soon become) relevant in the realm of organic synthesis (221 references).

Abstract:Aryl nitriles can be efficiently synthesized through transition-metal-mediated cyanation of aryl halides, arenes, aryl boronic acids, and so on. Among those most commonly used transition-metals, copper catalysts are surely much more inexpensive and easier to handle, compared to any other metal catalysts. Considering the high-efficiency of copper catalysts in the activation of C–X, C–H, and C–B bond as well as in the formation of C–CN bond, this Letter summarizes various copper-mediated cyanations based on the different kinds of cyanide reagents, such as metal cyanides, potassium hexacyanoferrate(II), acetone cyanohydrins, DDQ, AIBN, benzyl cyanide, malononitrile, nitromethane, and DMF. Our group’s recent contributions to this area are also demonstrated.

Abstract:Carbon-sulfur bond cross-coupling has become more and more attractive as an alternative protocol to establish carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds. Diverse transformations through transition-metal-catalyzed C-S bond activation and cleavage have recently been developed. This review summarizes the advances in transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling via carbon-sulfur bond activation and cleavage since late 2012 as an update of the critical review on the same topic published in early 2013 (Chem. Soc. Rev., 2013, 42, 599-621), which is presented by the categories of organosulfur compounds, that is, thioesters, thioethers including heteroaryl, aryl, vinyl, alkyl, and alkynyl sulfides, ketene dithioacetals, sulfoxides including DMSO, sulfones, sulfonyl chlorides, sulfinates, thiocyanates, sulfonium salts, sulfonyl hydrazides, sulfonates, thiophene-based compounds, and C[double bond, length as m-dash]S functionality-bearing compounds such as thioureas, thioamides, and carbon disulfide, as well as the mechanistic insights. An overview of C-S bond cleavage reactions with stoichiometric transition-metal reagents is briefly given. Theoretical studies on the reactivity of carbon-sulfur bonds by DFT calculations are also discussed.

Abstract:Transition metal catalyzed C-H bond activation have become one of the important tools for constructing new chemical bonds. Introducing directing group to the substrates are the key to successful reaction, these directing groups can also be further transformed in the reaction. As amidines with unique structure and reactivity, makes them ideal substrates for transition metal-catalyzed C-H transformations. This review describes the major progress and mechanistic investigations on C-H activation/annulation tandem reaction of amidines until early 2024, focusing on metal-catalyzed C-H activation of amidines with unsaturated compounds, such as alkynes, olefins vinylene carbonate, cyclopropanols and their derivatives. Meanwhile this manuscript also with a view to the reaction of amidines with diffierent carbene precursor, for example diazo compounds, azide, triazoles, pyriodotriazoles, sulfoxonium ylides. And its own C-H bond activation/cyclization reaction. A bright outlook was provided at the end of the manuscript.
