We will study the 2-local isometries between the vector-valued differentiable function spaces C_0^p(Q, A(X)) and C_0^p(K, A(Y)) , and show that they can be written as weighted composition operators.

Abstract:Let C-(n)[0, 1] denote the Banach space of all n-times continuously differentiable functions on the closed unit interval [0, 1]. In this paper, we show that every 2-local isometry between C-(1)[0,1], equipped with the norm parallel to f parallel to = sup(x is an element of[0,1]){vertical bar f(x)vertical bar + vertical bar f'(x)vertical bar}, is a surjective linear isometry. Moreover, a complete characterization of such maps is presented.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the local approximation by Baskakov-Durrmeyer operators. The continuous functions of local Lipschitz-alpha (0<alpha<1) on any subset. of [0, infinity) are characterized by the local rate of convergence of Baskakov-Durrmeyer operators. The main difference between these operators and their classical and Kantorovich-variants respectively is that they have commutativity, which is crucial for our purpose. (C) 1997 Academic Press.

Abstract:We establish spherical variants of the Gleason-Kahane-Zelazko and Kowalski-S{\l}odkowski theorems, and we apply them to prove that every weak-2-local isometry between two uniform algebras is a linear map. Among the consequences, we solve a couple of problems posed by O. Hatori, T. Miura, H. Oka and H. Takagi in 2007. Another application is given in the setting of weak-2-local isometries between Lipschitz algebras by showing that given two metric spaces $E$ and $F$ such that the set Iso$((\hbox{Lip}(E),\|.\|),(\hbox{Lip}(F),\|.\|))$ is canonical, then every\hyphenation{every} weak-2-local Iso$((\hbox{Lip}(E),\|.\|),(\hbox{Lip}(F),\|.\|))$-map $\Delta$ from $\hbox{Lip}(E)$ to $\hbox{Lip}(F)$ is a linear map, where $\|.\|$ can indistinctly stand for $\|f\|_{_L} := \max\{L(f), \|f\|_{\infty} \}$ or $ \|f\|_{_s} := L(f) + \|f\|_{\infty}.$

Abstract:The classical theorems of Banach and Stone (1932, 1937), Gelfand and Kolmogorov (1939) and Kaplansky (1947) show that a compact Hausdorff space X is uniquely determined by the linear isometric structure, the algebraic structure, and the lattice structure, respectively, of the space C(X). In this paper, it is shown that for rather general subspaces A(X) and A(Y) of C(X) and C(Y), respectively, any linear bijection T : A(X) -> A(Y) such that f >= 0 if and only if T f >= 0 gives rise to a homeomorphism h : X -> Y with which T can be represented as a weighted composition operator. The three classical results mentioned above can be derived as corollaries. Generalizations to noncompact spaces and other function spaces such as spaces of Lipschitz functions and differentiable functions are presented.

Abstract:In this paper we give a complete description of surjective linear isometries between Banach spaces of absolutely continuous functions on arbitrary (not necessarily compact) subsets of the real line with respect to the sum-norm. We also use this description to study approximate local isometries and approximate 2-local isometries on these spaces. In particular, we present generalizations of all known results concerning such isometries, and obtain the reflexivity and 2-reflexivity of the isometry group of absolutely continuous function spaces in a noncompact framework.

Abstract:We obtain several Banach–Stone type theorems for vector-valued functions in this paper. Let X,Y be realcompact or metric spaces, E,F locally convex spaces, and ϕ a bijective linear map from C(X,E) onto C(Y,F). If ϕ preserves zero set containments, i.e., z(f)⊆z(g)⟺z(ϕ(f))⊆z(ϕ(g)),∀f,g∈C(X,E), then X is homeomorphic to Y, and ϕ is a weighted composition operator. The above conclusion also holds if we assume a seemingly weaker condition that ϕ preserves nonvanishing functions, i.e., z(f)=0̸⟺z(ϕf)=0̸,∀f∈C(X,E). These two results are special cases of the theorems in a very general setting in this paper, covering bounded continuous vector-valued functions on general completely regular spaces, and uniformly continuous vector-valued functions on metric spaces. Our results extend and generalize many recent ones.

Abstract:Let X, Y be locally compact Hausdorff spaces, and let C0(X ), C0(Y ) be the Banach spaces of all real continuous functions on X, Y, respectively, vanishing at infin-ity endowed with the usual sup-norm. Suppose that A, B are subspaces of C0(X), C0(Y ), strongly separating points of X, Y, respectively; and denote by partial differential A, partial differential B the Shilov bound-ary of A, B, respectively. If T is a standard epsilon-isometry from A into B for some epsilon > 0, we prove that there is a non-empty subset Y0 of partial differential B, a surjective continuous map tau : Y0 -> partial differential 0A (where partial differential 0A = partial differential A n supp(A)) and h E C(Y0) with |h(y)| = 1 such that |h(y)f(tau(y)) - (Tf)(y)| < 3 epsilon for all y E Y0 and f E A. We also give an example to show the constant 3 in the above inequality is optimal.
Relationships between Global and Local Monotonicity of Operators

Abstract:The paper is devoted to establishing relationships between global and local monotonicity, as well as their maximality versions, for single-valued and set-valued mappings between finite-dimensional and infinite-dimensional spaces. We first show that for single-valued operators with convex domains in locally convex topological spaces, their continuity ensures that their global monotonicity agrees with the local one around any point of the graph. This also holds for set-valued mappings defined on the real line under a certain connectedness condition. The situation is different for set-valued operators in multidimensional spaces as demonstrated by an example of locally monotone operator on the plane that is not globally monotone. Finally, we invoke coderivative criteria from variational analysis to characterize both global and local maximal monotonicity of set-valued operators in Hilbert spaces to verify the equivalence between these monotonicity properties under the closed-graph and global hypomonotonicity assumptions.

For a non-negative symmetric measurable function J ( x , y ) on E × E , consider the quadratic form ℰ(f,f):= 1/2∫_E× E (f(x)-f(y))^2 J(x,y) μ(d x) μ(d y) in L 2 ( μ ). We characterize the relationship between the isoperimetric inequality and the super Poincaré inequality associated with ℰ . In particular, sharp Orlicz-Sobolev type and Poincaré type isoperimetric inequalities are derived for stable-like Dirichlet forms on ℝ^n , which include the existing fractional isoperimetric inequality as a special example.
