Complex Analysis and Operator Theory

Abstract:The main purpose of this paper is, in the general setting of the adjointable operators on Hilbert -modules, to develop two new tools that can be applied to deal with the positive solutions of certain operator equations, the operator norm and related quantities. Among other things, the positivity of a operator matrix is clarified without any preconditions on its entries, and a generalized version of the mixed Schwarz inequality with a parameter is derived. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the non-triviality of this newly obtained inequality.

Abstract:Let T = A + iB with A positive semidefinite and B Hermitian. We derive a majorisation relation involving the singular values of T, A, and B. As a corollary, we show that parallel toTparallel to(p)(2) less than or equal to parallel toAparallel to(p)(2) + 2(1-2/p) parallel toBparallel to(p)(2), for all p greater than or equal to 2; and that this inequality is sharp. When 1 less than or equal to p less than or equal to 2 this inequality is reversed. For p = 1, we prove the sharper inequality parallel toTparallel to(1)(2) greater than or equal to parallel toAparallel to(1)(2) + parallel toBparallel to(1)(2). Such inequalities axe useful in studying the geometry of Schatten spaces, and our results include and improve upon earlier results proved in this context. Some related inequalities are also proved in the paper.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain two refinements of the ordering relations among Heinz means with different parameters via the Taylor series of some hyperbolic functions and by the way, we derive new generalizations of Heinz operator inequalities. Moreover, we establish a matrix version of Heinz inequality for the Hilbert-Schmidt norm. Finally, we introduce a weighted multivariate geometric mean and show that the weighted multivariate operator geometric mean possess several attractive properties and means inequalities.

Abstract:In this paper we establish a class of Hardy inequalities related to the gen- eralized Baouendi-Grushin vector fields from another view. Our technique is based on an extension of an elementary integral inequality in the Euclidean space by the generalized di- vergence theorem, and then the choice of suitable vector fields. The best constant is also discussed. Our results contain the well known Hardy inequalities for the class of vector fields. As immediate consequences, we discuss some properties for p-degenerate subelliptic opera- tor and characterize a positive solutions of the nonlinear operator constructed by generalized Baouendi-Grnshin vector fields.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove some Hardy-type inequalities for the degenerate operators L(p,alpha)u = div(L)(\del(L)u\(p-2)del(L)u), where del(L)u = (deltau/deltaz(1),...,deltau/deltaz(n), \z\(alpha)deltau/deltat(1),...,\z\(alpha)deltau/deltat(n)). These inequalities are established for the whole space, the pseudo-ball and the external domain of the pseudo-ball. We also give a generalization of a result in [8]. Finally, a sharp inequality for L-alpha = L-2,L-alpha is obtained.

In this paper, some new bounds for the A-numerical radius of operators in semi-Hilbertian space are obtained, which improve the existing ones. In particular, a refinement of the triangle inequality for A-operator semi-norm is also shown.

Abstract:Several unitarily invariant norm inequalities and numerical radius inequalities for Hilbert space operators are studied. We investigate some necessary and sufficient conditions for the parallelism of two bounded operators. For a finite rank operator $A,$ it is shown that \begin{eqnarray*} \|A\|_{p} &\leq &\left(\textit{rank} \, A\right)^{1/{2p}} \|A\|_{2p} \,\, \leq \,\, \left(\textit{rank} \, A\right)^{{(2p-1)}/{2p^2}} \|A\|_{2p^2}, \quad \textit{for all $p\geq 1 $} \end{eqnarray*} where $\|\cdot\|_p$ is the Schatten $p$-norm. If $\{ \lambda_n(A) \}$ is a listing of all non-zero eigenvalues (with multiplicity) of a compact operator $A$, then we show that \begin{eqnarray*} \sum_{n} \left|\lambda_n(A)\right|^{p} &\leq& \frac12 \| A\|_{ p}^{ p} + \frac12 \| A^2\|_{p/2}^{p/2}, \quad \textit{for all $p\geq 2$} \end{eqnarray*} which improves the classical Weyl's inequality $\sum_{n} \left|\lambda_n(A)\right|^{p} \leq \| A\|_{ p}^{ p}$ [Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci. USA 1949]. For an $n\times n$ matrix $A$, we show that the function $p\to n^{-{1}/{p}}\|A\|_p$ is monotone increasing on $p\geq 1,$ complementing the well known decreasing nature of $p\to \|A\|_p.$ \indent As an application of these inequalities, we provide an upper bound for the sum of the absolute values of the zeros of a complex polynomial. As another application we provide a refined upper bound for the energy of a graph $G$, namely, $\mathcal{E}(G) \leq \sqrt{2m\left(\textit{rank Adj(G)} \right)},$ where $m$ is the number of edges, improving on a bound by McClelland in $1971$.

Abstract:Let ∥·∥ be a unitarily invariant norm on matrices. For matrices A,B,X with A,B positive semidefinite and X arbitrary, we prove that the function t↦∥|AtXB1−t|r∥·∥|A1−tXBt|r∥ is convex on [0,1] for each r>0. This convexity result interpolates the matrix Cauchy–Schwarz inequality ∥|A1/2XB1/2|r∥2⩽∥|AX|r∥·∥|XB|r∥ due to R. Bhatia and C. Davis [Linear Algebra Appl. 223/224 (1995) 119], and also it generalizes A.W. Marshall and I. Olkin's [Pacific J. Math. 15 (1965) 241] result that the condition number ∥As∥·∥A−s∥ is increasing in s>0. We prove that if f(t) is a nonnegative operator monotone function on [0,∞) and ∥·∥ is a normalized unitarily invariant norm, then f(∥X∥)⩽∥f(|X|)∥ for every matrix X. The special case when f(t)=tr (0<r⩽1) is used to consider the monotonicity of p↦∥Ap+Bp∥1/p as well as p↦∥(Ap+Bp)1/p∥. Furthermore, we obtain some norm inequalities of Hölder and Minkowski types related to the expression ∥|A|p+|B|p∥1/p. For example, comparisons are made between ∥C*A+D*B∥ and ∥|A|p+|B|p∥1/p·∥|C|q+|D|q∥1/q, where p−1+q−1=1.
