Abstract:This paper deals with the problem of disturbance attenuation via output feedback with internal stability for Lipschitz nonlinear systems. The main result is given in terms of the solutions of a Riccati equation and a Hamilton-Jacobi inequality. The method is shown to be suitable for linearized systems and, locally, for some general nonlinear systems as well. A numerical example is studied to show the feasibility of the presented approach

Abstract:Necessary and sufficient condition for robust H∞ control of dynamic interval systems is proposed. This robust H∞ controller guarantees not only the quadratic stability of the closed-loop systems but also the disturbance attenuation within a prescribed level in the H∞-norm sense. The results are obtained in terms of linear matrix inequalities. The illustrative example shows that this method is effective to obtain the robust H∞ controller for dynamic interval systems.

Abstract:The mixed L 1/H-infinity control problem for a class of uncertain linear singular systems is considered using a matrix inequality approach. The purpose is to design a state feedback control law such that the resultant closed-loop system is regular, impulse-free, stable and satisfies some given mixed L 1/H-infinity performance. A sufficient condition for the existence of such control law is given in terms of a set of matrix inequalities by the introduction of inescapable set and *-norm. When these matrix inequalities are feasible, an explicit expression of the desired state feedback control law is given. A numerical example is used to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed approach.

Abstract:This paper devotes to a feedback control strategy for nonlinear stochastic dynamical system to track a prespecified stationary response probability density. The system description and control design are conducted in Hamiltonian framework, and the excitations are confined to Gaussian white noises. The control design consists of several successive steps: firstly, separating the control into conservative and dissipative components by physical intuition, and expanding two components as polynomials; secondly, deriving the low-dimensional averaged equations of controlled Hamiltonian by stochastic averaging, and obtaining the stationary probability density of controlled responses by solving the associated Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov (FPK) equation; thirdly and finally, determining the polynomial coefficients by minimising the performance index which balances the tracking performance and control cost. Two examples, i.e. Duffing oscillator and frictional system are adopted to illustrate the application and efficacy of this control strategy to track Gaussian and non-Gaussian response probability density.

Abstract:This paper focuses on the problem of robust H-infinity control for linear uncertain time-delay systems with norm-bounded nonlinear uncertainty in both the state and control. Also, the time delay is time-varying and can exist both in the state and control. Using the fact that the type of nonlinear uncertainty set considered here has an equivalent representation by linear uncertainty set, we propose an approach for designing a memoryless state feedback control law which will stabilize the time-delay systems and, simultaneously, guarantee a prespecified H-infinity disturbance attenuation constraint for all admissible uncertainty.

Abstract:The decentralized H∞ control problem for discrete-time large-scale overlapping systems is considered in this paper. Based on the founded stability theorem of discrete-time systems, a sufficient condition for the existence of a decentralized H∞ two-parts-controller for discrete-time large-scale overlapping systems is presented in terms of the solvability to a certain discomposed system of matrix inequalities, by the Cone Complementary Linearization (CCL) algorithm. And the method can be extended to systems with uncertainties.

Abstract:An important question in feedback control design is how to achieve desired performance for dynamical systems subject to both model uncertainties and white noise. For this purpose, it is desirable to develop a systematic design technique that combines the good aspects of both ${\cal H}_2$($LQG$) and ${\cal H}_\infty$ methods, which provides the motivation for the development of multiobjective design framework in this paper. Encouraged by a time domain game approach for ${\cal H}_{2}/{\cal H}_{\infty}$ control design, two multiobjective control design problems are formulated and solved in the time domain. Results for both the finite time horizon and the infinite time horizon are presented. It is shown that all the results can be obtained by solving the corresponding set of coupled Riccati equations.

Abstract:This paper considers the <span class="NLM_disp-formula inline-formula"><math> H ∞ </math></span> control problem for a hyperchaotic system with energy-bounded disturbance under the delayed feedback controller. Using the quadratic system theory, an augmented Lyapunov functional, some integral inequalities and rigorous mathematical derivations, a sufficient condition is first established by using linear matrix inequalities under which the closed-loop system can achieve some desirable performances including the boundedness, the <span class="NLM_disp-formula inline-formula"><math> H ∞ </math></span> performance and the asymptotic stability. Subsequently, several convex optimization problems are formulated to obtain the optimal performance indices. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the obtained results.

Abstract:An LQG (linear quadratic Gaussian) control-design problem involving a constraint on H/sup infinity / disturbance attenuation is considered. The H/sup infinity / performance constraint is embedded within the optimization process by replacing the covariance Lyapunov equation by a Riccati equation whose solution leads to an upper bound on L/sub 2/ performance. In contrast to the pair of separated Riccati equations of standard LQG theory, the H/sup infinity /-constrained gains are given by a coupled system of three modified Riccati equations. The coupling illustrates the breakdown of the separation principle for the H/sup infinity /-constrained problem. Both full- and reduced-order design problems are considered with an H/sup infinity / attenuation constraint involving both state and control variables. An algorithm is developed for the full-order design problem and illustrative numerical results are given.<>

Abstract:A method for designing optimal bounded control of nonlinear hysteretic systems under externally and parametrically random excitations is presented and illustrated with a numerical example on hysteretic column. The hysteretic system subjected to random excitations is firstly replaced by an equivalent nonlinear non-hysteretic stochastic system. Then, the Itô stochastic differential equation for the total energy of the system as a controlled diffusion process is derived by using the stochastic averaging method of energy envelope. For the semi-infinite time interval ergodic control, the dynamic programming equation is established based on the stochastic dynamical programming principle, and the optimal bounded control law is obtained from this equation under the control constraint. The responses of uncontrolled and controlled hysteretic systems are predicted and used for evaluating control efficacy. The robustness of the optimal bounded control for the hysteretic system with uncertain parameters is further analyzed. Numerical results show that the proposed control method has high efficacy and good robustness.

Abstract:This paper considers the analysis and synthesis of control systems subject to two types of disturbance signals: signals with bounded power spectral density and signals with bounded power. The resulting control problem involves minimizing a mixed H2 and H∞ norm of the system. It is shown that the controller shares a separation property similar to those of pare H2 or H∞. controller. It is also shown that the mixed problem reduces naturally to H2 and H∞ problem in special cases. Some necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for the existence of a solution to the mixed problem. Explicit state space formulae are given for the optimal controllers.

Abstract:In this paper, the problem of designing H∞ state‐feedback controllers for switched linear discrete‐time systems with polytopic uncertainties is investigated. Two approaches on designing robust and parameter‐dependent H∞ controllers are proposed and the existence conditions of the desired controllers are derived and formulated in terms of a set of linear matrix inequalities. By solving the corresponding convex optimization problem, the desired controllers are obtained, respectively, and different optimal H∞ noise‐attenuation level bounds of corresponding closed‐loop systems are given as well. The designed controllers have their own advantages and disadvantages regarding the conservatism and realization complexity. An illustrative example emerging in networked control systems (NCS) and numerical simulations are presented to show the applicability and effectiveness of the obtained theoretic results. Abstract:This paper considers the sliding-mode control for nonlinear stochastic systems modeled by Ito stochastic differential equations. It is noted that there exist state and exogenous disturbance-dependent noise in the controlled systems. By utilizing H-infinity disturbance attenuation technique, a novel sliding-mode control method is proposed such that the resultant system is asymptotically stable in probability with a prescribed H-infinity performance. Sufficient conditions for the solvability of these problems are derived via nonlinear Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ)-type inequalities. Moreover, it is shown that for a class of special nonlinear stochastic systems, the H-infinity-sliding-mode control design can be obtained by solving linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, a numerical simulation example is given.

Abstract:This work conducts robust H ∞ analysis for a class of quantum systems subject to perturbations in the interaction Hamiltonian. A necessary and sufficient condition for the robustly strict bounded real property of this type of uncertain quantum system is proposed. This paper focuses on the study of coherent robust H ∞ controller design for quantum systems with uncertainties in the interaction Hamiltonian. The desired controller is connected with the uncertain quantum system through direct and indirect couplings. A necessary and sufficient condition is provided to build a connection between the robust H∞ control problem and the scaled H∞ control problem. A numerical procedure is provided to obtain coefficients of a coherent controller. An example is presented to illustrate the controller design method.

Abstract:This paper proposes an H∞ control based receding horizon control design scheme for discrete-time linear systems subject input saturation and external ℒ2 disturbances. Conditions are established under which the state trajectories of the closed-loop starting from an ellipsoid remain within another larger ellipsoid and the restricted ℒ2 gain from the disturbance to the controlled output over a class of ℒ2 disturbances with a given bound on their energies is no greater than a given number. These conditions allow the saturation to occur and reveal a clear trade-off between the sizes of the ellipsoids and the level of the restricted ℒ2 gain, which motivates the adoption of the receding horizon control design approach. At each time instant, the control design is formulated as an LMI optimization problem. Both state feedback and output feedback are considered.

Abstract:This note investigates the H∞ control problem for linear continuous- and discrete-time positive systems. Instead of using algebraic techniques which have been widely employed for the analysis of positive systems, our development is based on matrix inequalities. With the well-established results of Lyapunov stability theory and nonnegative matrix, sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of desired H∞ statefeedback controllers that guaranteeing the resultant closed-loop system not only to be asymptotically stable and positive, but also has a desired H ∞ performance. Moreover, even for an unstable and non-positive system, the results obtained can be applied to design a desired H ∞ controller such that the closed-loop system not only is stable and positive but also has an H∞ performance. Since the conditions obtained are expressed as linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which can be easily verified by using standard numerical software. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the proposed design scheme. © 2009 ISSN.
