Abstract:Recently, novel morphological nanocomposites have attracted increasing attention due to their unique features. In this work, a 3D hierarchical magnetic Fe@Pt/Ti(OH)(4) nanoarchitecture has been synthesized successfully. TEM images were used to confirm the success of each of the synthesis steps, and the reduction of 4-NP to 4-AP was employed to evaluate their catalytic performance. Their large surface area and nanorod structure guarantee their good catalytic performance. Furthermore, the as-prepared nanocapsule shows excellent anti-sintering properties for the physical barrier effects of Ti(OH)(4) nanorods. The sample calcined at 700 degrees C showed the highest catalytic activity in our work due to the decomposition of Ti(OH)(4). Finally, the synthesized Fe@Pt/Ti(OH)(4) nanocomposite could be easily recycled.

Abstract:A facile solvothermal method coupled with an annealing strategy is developed to synthesize Fe 3 O 4 /carbon (Fe 3 O 4 @C) magnetic composite microstructures with different morphologies, including flower-like, hollow spheres and egg-like. The unique multiporous and hollow structure of the as-prepared hierarchical Fe 3 O 4 @C hollow microsphere results in an appealing performance as an absorber of Cr(VI) ions in aqueous solution, delivering a high capacity of ~ 197.2 mg/g. Meanwhile, the magnetic Fe 3 O 4 ‘‘core’’ in the hierarchical microstructures can be easily separated from aqueous systems by magnetic separation. Furthermore, the carbon layers effectively prevent the aggregation of magnetic Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles. The excellent absorbing ability of Cr(VI) ions and easy separation process strongly suggest that the Fe 3 O 4 @C magnetic microstructures would have a great potential as adsorbing materials in the large-scale application in environmental purification.

Abstract:A facile surface protected silica shell etching method for fabricating multifunctional Fe3O4@CeO2-Pt@mSiO(2) composites is reported. These multifunctional materials possess large magnetization, open mesopores, and a stably confined but exposed catalytically active component. The unique structures showed high thermal stability, magnetic recyclability and catalytic activity in catalytic reactions.

Abstract:Anew branched-dumbbell Pt/NiFe nanostructure was fabricated through a controllable microwave route followed by the element lithographic process. In this nanostructure, Pt nanoparticles (Nps) are embedding on the surface of NiFe branched-dumbbells. Owing to the three-dimensional (3D) hierachical framework with large surface area, Pt/NiFe branched-dumbbell nanostructure has an advantage for the reactant diffusion and transport. The synergistic action between the high catalytic selectivity of NiFe nanoalloy and the superior catalytic activity of Pt Nps can result in remarkably efficiency catalytic of Pt/NiFe branched-dumbbells toward the reduction of nitro-aromatic compounds under ambient atmosphere at room temperature. The morphologies, structures and properties were characterized by SEM, XRD, XPS, EDS, VSM, and UV-vis. Owing to the good soft-magnetic behavior, branched-dumbbell Pt/NiFe nanostructures can be easily separated and recycled by an external magnet field for application. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:Magnetic composite microspheres consisting of a SiO2-coated Fe3O4 core, an ordered TiO2 hierarchically structured shell, and a Pt nanoparticle layer dispersed on the surface of the TiO2 nanoplatelets have been successfully synthesized using a facile and efficient method. The shells of TiO2 hierarchical microspheres were assembled from nanoplatelets, which exposed the high-energy {001} facets, and the Pt nanoparticles were evenly deposited on the surface of the TiO2 nanoplatelets, with a concentration of similar to 1 wt %. The resulting composite microspheres exhibited flower-like hierarchical structures with a 202.42 m(2) g1 surface area and possessed superparamagnetic properties with a high saturation magnetization of 31.5 emu g1. These features endow the obtained composite microspheres with a high adsorption capacity and strong magnetic responsivity that could be easily separated by an external magnetic field. The high photocatalytic activity toward Rhodamine B (RhB) degradation may be caused by the hierarchically structured TiO2 with exposed high-energy {001} facets and the Pt nanoparticle deposits on TiO2 surfaces, which would be efficient for the electron transfer reactions. In addition, the composite microspheres showed high recycling efficiency and stability over several separation cycles.

Abstract:This study reports the fabrication of a novel hierarchically structured nanocatalyst system possessing a well-defined nickel silicate (NS) protected Fe3O4 core and a layer of uniform Ag nanoparticles on the NS shell by using a multi-step approach. The multifunctional microparticles show high performance in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol and the rate of the catalytic reaction can be controlled by changing the concentration of nanocatalysts. In particular, there was no visible decrease in the catalytic activity of the reused catalysts even after being recycled five times. Thus the hierarchically structured Fe3O4@NS particles are very suitable as a catalyst support for catalyst separation and redispersion.
A Novel Hierarchical TiO2@Pt@mSiO2 Hollow Nanocatalyst with Enhanced Thermal Stability

Abstract:A novel hierarchical TiO2@Pt@mSiO(2) hollow nanocatalyst with enhanced thermal stability has been synthesized successfully. The formation procedure involves a facile synthesis of SiO2@TiO2@Pt nano spheres and a subsequent solvothermal process. During the hydrothermal process, original TiO2 layer was transformed into a hierarchical nanostructure and, meanwhile, etch-released silica species redeposited on the surface of the in-situ grown TiO2 nanoplatelets. In the catalytic system, the in-situ grown TiO2 nanoplatelets were buried in the redeposited mSiO(2) layers and the Pt NPs dispersed uniformly between TiO2 nanoplatelets and mSiO(2) layers. Importantly, the redeposited mSiO(2) layer provides a physical barrier to prevent Pt NPs from sintering up to 550 degrees C and the hierarchical TiO2 nanostructure shows an obvious co-catalysis effect in the reduction of 4-NP. Besides, the mSiO(2) layer could also control the rapid crystallization process of TiO2 nanoplatelets effectively. In the high temperature reaction of propane dehydrogenation, HHN exhibits a lower deactivation parameter, indicating the excellent thermal stability. (C)2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
Spatial Segregation of Three-Dimensional Al2O3 Supported PtSn Catalyst for Improved Sintering-Resistant at High Temperature

Abstract:Many catalytic reactions operate within high-temperature environment, inevitably leading to the sintering of small nanoparticles. Consequently, the design of sintering-resistant metal nanocatalysts at elevated temperatures pose significant challenges. Herein, we introduce an approach, employing a 3D flower-shaped Al2O3 (F-Al2O3), to stabilize nanoparticles by establishing a spatial separation in propane dehydrogenation (PDH). The PDH reaction conducted is just a test system at non-relevant conditions. Both ex-situ and in-situ TEM analyses evidence that PtSn nanoparticles on the F-Al2O3 exhibit remarkable resistance to sintering under high-temperature oxidative and reductive conditions. The propane conversion of PtSn/F- Al2O3 fully rebounds to its initial state and the average particle diameter of PtSn/F- Al2O3 remains virtually unchanged after seven PDH cycles. In contrast, 2D Al2O3 nanosheets (C-Al2O3) experience severe PtSn nanoparticle sintering. Computational studies highlight the effectiveness of the 3D flower-shaped Al2O3 in obstructing particle migration and ripen through spatial segregation. This strategy involving the construction of three-dimensional space support presents a promising avenue for the design of sintering-resistant nanocatalysts.

Abstract:Being capable of gathering advanced optical, electrical and magnetic properties originating from different components, multifunctional composite nanomaterials have been of concern increasingly. Herein, we have successfully demonstrated the preparation of SrTiO3/NiFe2O4 porous nanotubes (PNTs) and SrTiO3/NiFe2O4 particle-in-tubes (PITs) via a single-spinneret electrospinning and a side-by-side-spinneret electrospinning, respectively. The products were characterized by using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectra and a vibrating sample magnetometer in detail. The results indicate that SrTiO3/NiFe2O4 PNTs are the heterojunction nanotubes by connecting perovskite SrTiO3 and spinel NiFe2O4 nanoparticles, but SrTiO3/NiFe2O4 PITs are the self-assembled core/shell structures by embedding SrTiO3 nanoparticles into NiFe2O4 nanotubes. Compared with pure SrTiO3 nanofibers, the two SrTiO3/NiFe2O4 composites exhibit a powerful light response and excellent room temperature ferromagnetism. The magnetic separations directly reveal that such amazing recycling efficiencies of about 95% for SrTiO3/NiFe2O4 PNTs and about 99.5% for SrTiO3/NiFe2O4 PITs are obtained. Furthermore, both the magnetic composites perform considerable photocatalytic activity in the degradation of rhodamine B. We propose that Kirkendall-diffusion and phaseseparation are probably responsible for the formation of SrTiO3/NiFe2O4 PITs, and this work could provide a feasible way to assemble the core/shell structures of different materials.

Abstract:In this work we present a controllable synthesis of hollow nanostructures of alpha-Fe2O3 by a facile hydrothermal route using FeCl3 center dot 6H(2)O as the iron source and NH4H2PO4 as the shape-directing agent. We found that the morphology of alpha-Fe2O3 experienced a continuous change from thin nanospindles to flat nanodisks via finely tuning the phosphate ion concentration due to the selective absorption of phosphate ions onto the Fe2O3 nanostructures. At a given phosphate ion concentration, prolonging the reaction time led to the formation of hollow nanostructures (nanotubes, nanobeads, and nanorings) due to the dissolution and re-crystallization of Fe2O3. We also found that morphology-preserved conversion from alpha-Fe2O3 to magnetic Fe3O4/C can be achieved during the CVD reactions in C2H2. The Fe3O4/C nanocomposites with uniformly coated carbon layers exhibited morphology-dependent magnetic properties.

Abstract:The design and fabrication of core-shell nanostructures with steerable morphologies and tailored performances have aroused abundant scientific studies for organic transformations. We here report the preparation of multifunctional and highly efficient core-shell microspheres, which bear a carbon-protected magnetic Fe3O4 core, a transition layer of active Pd nanoparticles (NPs) and an outer shell of mesoporous CeO2 (mCeO2). The composition and structure of the as-prepared Fe3O4@C-Pd@mCeO2 were thoroughly characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller measurements. The well-designed microspheres have high dispersibility, convenient magnetic separability and good reusability as heterogeneous nanoreactors due to their unique structure. We illustrate the high efficiency of these nanocomposites in mediating the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction and the reduction reaction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). The enhanced catalytic activity can be attributed to the synergistic effect between the CeO2 nanoparticles and noble metal NPs. A mechanism was further proposed to explain the improved catalytic activity. This peculiar core-shell nanostructure renders the nanospheres to be an approachable and attractive catalyst system for various catalytic organic industrial processes.

Abstract:Platinum and palladium bimetal nanoparticles on ferroferric oxide (PtPd/Fe3O4 NPs) nanocomposite catalysts were successfully synthesized with polyvinyl pyrrolidone as a stabilizing agent. The resultant samples were characterized by x-ray diffraction, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, inductively coupled plasma, and magnetic studies. The catalytic performance of the PtPd/Fe3O4 NPs in the Heck and Suzuki coupling reactions was evaluated. Results showed that the cubic phase of Pt and Pd bimetal nanoparticles coexists with that of Fe3O4. The PtPd/Fe3O4 NP catalysts, which were approximately 22 nm in size, showed excellent catalytic activity in the Heck and Suzuki reactions. Moreover, the catalyst can be recovered with a magnet and reused several times without the significant loss of catalytic activity.

Abstract:Hierarchical 3D TiO2@Fe2O3 nanoframework arrays grown on a Ti substrate are synthesized via a facile hydrothermal reaction. As the synergetic effect of this hybrid material, the TiO2@Fe2O3 electrode shows superior rate capability and cycling performance to bare TiO2 and Fe2O3 electrodes.

Abstract:Magnetic Fe3O4 and Fe3O4@C core-shell nanostructures were prepared by the hydrothermal method and the Pt nanoparticles was in situ attached on Fe3O4@C to form Fe3O4@C/Pt nanocomposite. The TEM, SEM, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy were employed to characterize the surface morphology and composition. The catalytic activities of pure Pt nanoparticles (2 nm) and Fe3O4@C/Pt on the reaction of the transformation of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol in the presence of NaBH4 were investigated. The possibility of recycling on the catalyst was explored by applying an external magnetic field. The results revealed that Fe3O4@C/Pt exhibited higher catalytic efficiency than that of pure Pt nanoparticles. It was mainly due to the synergetic effect that occurred at the interface of metals and Fe3O4@C support. The charge transfer from magnetic core to the Pt caused the increase of electron density on Pt and thus improved the reducibility of Fe3O4@C/Pt. The nanocomposite catalyst was recyclable for about 20 times.

Abstract:This paper presents a simple wet-chemical method for preparing hierarchical Fe2O3@Ti3C2Tx nanocomposites with 50-70 wt% Fe2O3 based on hydrothermal synthesis followed by freeze-drying. In this method, positively charged Fe2O3 nanoparticles homogeneously nucleate in-situ, grow, and are electrostatically anchored on the surface of negatively charged and crumpled Ti3C2Tx nanosheets. The synergy between the Fe2O3 and Ti3C2Tx inhibits the agglomeration and grain growth of the Fe2O3 nanoparticles, prevents the restacking and oxidation of the Ti3C2Tx nanosheets, and provides abundant voids, thus significantly improving the charge transport kinetics of the composite and absorbing the expansion of the Fe2O3 nanoparticles. In this study, a 60 wt% Fe2O3@Ti3C2Tx composite showed excellent electrochemical performance as an anode for a lithium ion battery, with a capacity of 701.86 mAh g-1 after 200 cycles at 0.2 A g-1 and a capacity of 609.9 mAh g-1 after 600 cycles at 0.5 A g-1. The proposed strategy is scalable, universal applicable for constructing MXene-based hybrids, and can be potentially viable in fields such as energy storage, electromagnetic interference shielding, microwave absorbance, and catalysis.

Abstract:Two-dimensional (2D) materials enabled the creation of hybrid heterostructures with a variety of properties. Here, inspired by the “core–shell” structures, we report the synthesis of a hierarchical structure based on the growth of 2D Mn/Ni(OH)x sheets on the CeO2 spheres, so called sheet-on-sphere heterostructures. The supported 2D sheets serve as robust support for the immobilization of metal nanoparticles. The as-formed hetero structures offer a robust catalyst system and display excellent catalytic performances toward the 4-nitrophenol reduction in liquid-phase and CO oxidation in gas phase. Abstract:Carbon supported Pt-based alloy materials that have been developed for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are vulnerable to deactivation due to the loss of non-noble metal components (leaching) or detachment, migration and aggregation of active nanoparticles (sintering). Until now some methods have been developed to inhibit leaching or sintering individually. However, a route able to avoid leaching and sintering simultaneously is still lacking. Herein, we develop a thermally driven interfacial diffusion alloying route that allows for the direct evolution of solid Pt nanoparticles (NPs) supported on carbon (Pt/C) into a Pt-skin-like hollow PtFe alloy or a structurally ordered intermetallic PtFe alloy, together with in situ encapsulation of PtFe alloy NPs with a thin layer porous nitrogen-doped carbon (NC) shell. The robust NC shells not only effectively prevent Pt-based NPs from detachment, migration, and aggregation during accelerated durability tests but also allow smoother access of electrolyte to the Pt surface, thus allowing the catalysts to well preserve their high catalytic activity. The well-defined shape and atomic arrangement of PtFe alloy NPs exhibit over 600% increase in mass activity and specific activity when compared with that of the pristine Pt/C catalyst. Stability tests confirm that the ordered PtFe alloy is more electrochemically stable than the disordered hollow PtFe alloy and Pt/C catalysts due to its ordered atomic arrangement and the robust NC shell.
Sonochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Magnetic Separable Fe3o4-Tio2 Nanocomposites and Their Catalytic Properties

Abstract:A novel sonochemical method is described for the preparation of Fe3O4-TiO2 photocatalysts in which nanocrystalline titanium dioxide particles are directly coated onto a magnetic core. The Fe3O4 nanoparticles were partially embedded in TiO2 agglomerates. TiO2 nanocrystallites were obtained by hydrolysis and condensation of titanium tetraisopropyl in the presence of ethanol and water under high-intensity ultrasound irradiation. This method is attractive since it eliminated the high-temperature heat treatment required in the conventional sol-gel method, which is important in transforming amorphous titanium dioxide into a photoactive crystalline phase. In comparison to other methods, the developed method is simple, mild, green and efficient. The magnetization hysteresis loop for Fe3O4-TiO2 nanocomposites indicates that the hybrid catalyst shows superparamagnetic characteristics at room temperature. Photocatalytic activity studies confirmed that the as-prepared nanocomposites have high photocatalytic ability toward the photodegradation of RhB solution. Furthermore, the photodecomposition rate decreases only slightly after six cycles of the photocatalysis experiment. Thus, these Fe3O4-TiO2 nanocomposites can be served as an effective and conveniently recyclable photocatalyst.
